Survivor’s Guilt and PTSD is something many men and women suffer with on a daily basis. Most of these courageous people have served in the military.

Skye Turner has penned a wonderful novel that lets her readers experience both sides of these debilitating mental health issues. The characters are very realistic and I loved reading their story.

Army Staff Sergeant Bethanie Reynold’s dream was to serve in the military. She even gave up the man she loved to go and serve.

Remy LeSalle has been in love with Bethanie for as long as he can remember. When she chose to leave for the military, he was devastated. She is the only woman for him so he would wait for her.

When Bethanie comes back home, she is a different person. A horrible attack on her unit has left her with horrific scars: both mental and physical.

When Remy confesses his love for her, Bethanie is scared. He couldn’t possibly love her now. She feels she is broken beyond repair.

Remy is determined to help Bethanie heal. She is his everything.

Skye Turner has an amazing gift at writing books that flow perfectly from chapter to chapter. Every sentence is important to the overall story.

I loved this emotional love story. Bethanie and Remy were perfect for each other.

I definitely recommend this book to read!

Survivor guilt and PTSD are not easy to manage and some never overcome them. Can the love of her life help her deal and have a life after war? The characters are compelling, the conflict real, the heat and chemistry steamy, what more can you want? While reading about Bethanie's battle was not easy, it was a powerful love story with a rewarding ending. This is one of those love stories where the reader has to remind themselves that in a romance there has to be a HEA.

Don't miss this one, I strongly recommend you read this and it will give you the pleasure of a wonderful romance as well as a better understanding of the strong women who have given much for our safety.

**Disclaimer: This is a series with contributions from various authors. I believe Platform Four by Eden Butler is the first story and it's novella size.**

Remy has been in love with Bethanie, his best friend, since they were young and though he knows she feels it too, she has dreams she's determined to accomplish and to do that he had to let her go, resigning himself to never having the girl, the woman he knew she'd become.

Bethanie has grown up hearing the stories of her Dad's time in the military, and though she never got to meet him, those stories struck a chord deep within her. She yearns to experience the things he did, see the things he saw, to serve her country. She knows how Remy feels about her, and she feels it too, yet she knows that even though a part of her wants the future he envisions for them, the military calls to her and she can't deny it.

Eleven years after following her dream, Bethie is home, broken and full of guilt. She spent four weeks in a German hospital recovering from injuries, wondering why she survived when everyone else in her unit didn't.

"What makes me special?" "I'm not special." - Bethanie

Remy's dream of taking over his family farm has been realized, though he'd give anything for it not to be at the expense of his father's life. He's tried to move on in his personal life, dating, having relationships, etc., but he always holds back because they aren't her. When Connie, Bethie's Mom, asks Remy to pick her up he jumps at the chance, unaware Bethie doesn't know he's coming.

Bethie is shocked to see Remy, but even more shocked by the realization that she's been in love with him for years and when the opportunity comes, they both eagerly dive into their first kiss. Remy is determined to not let Bethie go this time. She's home and she's his, and he's determined to make that happen, just as much as Bethie is that it can't happen again, even though she wants the same thing he does, because she feels he deserves better than her.

"We, as in me and you...this is way past due." "And we are involved, sweetheart. We always have been." - Remy

Bethie agrees to give a relationship with Remy a chance. He's always been the man for her, even when she wouldn't admit it. But when she shares with him the details of the attack, believing it's all her fault that so many died, her unit and innocent civilians, she refuses to believe his assertion that she isn't to blame, the terrorists are. Out of fear, with her emotions overwhelming her as well as her belief that he deserves better than her, she ends things between them.

"Maybe you'll never be whole again, but even if not, you'll still be a beautiful puzzle...just with a few missing pieces. It doesn't mean you throw the whole thing away." - Connie, Bethie's Mom

As Bethie struggles with her guilt and adjusting to civilian life again, she constantly misses Remy, though as weeks go by without any word from him, she believes he's accepted her decree that they're over. Remy, knowing she needs space to come to terms with all she's experienced, reluctantly gives it to her, while planning on the perfect time to show her hell never give up on them.

"You're the missing piece that completes my puzzle." - Remy

Will Bethie ever find a sense of peace with all that she went through? Will Remy be there to help her through it? Will Remy and Bethie get the chance at the HEA they've both always wanted with each other?

One-click now and follow along as two people who've loved each other since they were children finally get their chance to be together.

4 Star Review of Behind My Charade (A Legacy Falls Romance) by Skye Turner
This was a fast read and I would say that the subject matter is in no way easy; the book is at times harrowing and heartbreaking. This is the story of Army Staff Sergeant Bethanie Reynolds who returns home after being medically discharged from the Army, the lone survivor of a horrific attack on her squad and the man who has loved her since they were children, Remy LeSalle who owns the farm next door to her in Legacy Falls.
Remy has always been in love with Bethanie; she has always wanted friendship and nothing more. For the 6 years whilst she has been serving her country he has held out hope that once she came home, she would be ready for his love and a future together.
When Bethanie returns home, shattered and broken from her final tour, it is Remy who is at the station to meet her thanks to their matchmaking mothers. I will say that this book did move a little too fast for me. One minute she was home, the next Bethanie is realising she has been in love with Remy for years, it did seem a tad too fast a turn around, however this is fiction and anything is possible.
Will Bethanie be able to overcome the survivor’s guilt she feels? Or will she give up on the love she and Remy share? He knows that something horrible happened and that she believes she has no right to happiness, but will she open up to Remy and let him in?
I have to say that this story was an emotional roller-coaster; at times the pain and horror almost felt like it could jump off the pages and grip me with terror. Behind my Charade was well written and I congratulate Ms. Turner on handling the topics with great care and sensitivity.
Skye Turner is a new author to me. Not sure why I haven’t read anything from Ms. Turner before but I will be rectifying that as soon as possible.

I always get choked up and teary reading about anyone in the military or anything patriotic. I have family that are currently active and many who have retired. This story about Bethie and her military experience is heartbreaking and unusual in that it is the woman away at war.

Bethie and Remy were friends from a young age and Remy fell in love with her. Bethie refused to be anything other than friends because she had her mind set on leaving her home and serving in the military like her father. After six years she returns home, injured in her body, heart, and mind but all Remy can think is that she’s back and he’s not going to let her go again.

I was amazed that Remy has loved Bethie for so many years and still waited for her, especially when she stopped writing and made sure not to see him when she came home on leave. There’s not too many people that love someone for long and it was touching to read about his devotion to Bethie. When Bethie goes to the VA for counseling, she eventually learns how to deal with her PTSD and survivor’s guilt. A happy ending with Remy and family, where she learns she can still provide protection to those she cares about.

Many of us don’t understand what it’s like to serve in the military, even if they serve in the US. For those that have served in war, they can’t help but have the experience carve a place in their soul.

This was a fairly short story with a compelling connection. This is the first book I’ve read of Ms. Turner’s and look forward to reading more of her work.

OMG what a wonderful story. I absolutely loved this book. I loved the well developed characters, the storyline, the subject matter. How DO you help someone who suffers from PTSD-Survivor's Guilt? Remy and Bethanie's story is a lifelong love story. It's one that you know happens every now and then and wish for. Love that is strong enough to last through your growing years, into adulthood and eventually comes to the point that that love is tested in one of the most tragic ways. Can love be enough to thwart the evil that is PTSD - Survivor's Guilt? Can anything? Between the pages of this book is not only a romantic tale, but one of trying to overcome and live with survivor's guilt. A story of love that will warm your heart, a story of insurmountable loss that will have tears flowing down your face and a story of a future that was destined to be, but may not be attainable because of the horror's of war. This is an amazing book, but there may be triggers to some, so please heed the warnings in the book's synopsis. If I could give more than 5 stars I certainly would. Great job Skye Turner.

War is not something that is usually told in the woman's perspective, but Skye Turner has allowed us to delve into that difference, and she's done it with grace, a bit of hard headedness and a resounding pace of love throughout.

Bethanie has always wanted to be in the military, and even though her best friend, Remy, has always wanted a little more, she's determined to make her dream come true.

Remy has gotten past Bethanie ever coming around and giving him a chance. Now, with her returning home from war, he's determined to make her see they belong together.

Both of these characters have their flaws, sometimes Remy is a little pushy, and Bethanie is extremely hard headed, but you feel the love between them, even when they might find it doubtful. I love reading about the instances where family is included in the story also. And even though the story is short, it packs an emotional punch.

Skye's writing is crisp and bright and my favorite part is always the internal dialogue that's italicized. I feel like the character is speaking directly to me. Take a chance on Turner's writing, you will not be disappointed.

I absolutely loved this book! Bethanie & Remy's story is like no other that I've read. The author takes us on an emotional rollercoaster as Bethanie leaves home to be in the military, comes back years later to deal with PTSD & survivor's guilt, and reconnects with her past. I love books that make me feel & this one is not short of the feels.

This story is refreshing as it's the lead female role in the military & not the lead male. I think Mrs. Turner did a great job touching on not only the military aspect but also the female struggles in the military. PTSD & survivor's guilt is a very sensitive subject & the author did it justice in covering those tough subjects.

I love Bethanie & Remy. Remy did a fantastic job knocking down Bethanie's sky-high walls. I was rooting for them from the get-go. I highly recommend this book & can't wait for more of this series.

3 1/2 out of 5 stars

This is a quick read that will keep you reading just to see how Remy & Bethie can survive.

This book was emotional and dealt with a subject matter not easy to read or think about. I found myself heartbroken more than whole-hearted while reading about Remy and Bethanie. The story is more about Bethanie finding herself after being the only survivor of an attack during war. Remy has waited for her to come home for many years and still stands by the fact that he loves her, but she can’t accept that love.

The story was fast paced with characters that were easy to fall for. Sometimes I felt like the story just skipped a lot and then other times I felt like I was reading the same thing over and over. Overall, it was a good read that I enjoyed.

♡♡♡♡♡ 4.5 STAR REVIEW ♡♡♡♡♡

Bethanie Reynolds and Remy LaSalle have a long history together but after she enlisted in the Army and left right after hight school. Six years later and a wounded Veteran Bethanie will come home and Remy will be there for the first person she sees.

As I was reading this story, I was surprised how strong Remy's feelings for Bethanie were after all those years being apart. With each page you read, you will be able see her demons and learn that not only is she fighting a one sided war but she wants and needs someone to understand her and love her. This two will make you fall in love with them.

This is the first book that I have read where the female is the one that was in the military. Bethanie Reynolds came back broken and suffering from PTSD-survivor’s guilt . All she wants to do is hide away. Remy LeSalle has been trying to forget the one girl who stole his heart all those years ago, but now she is back. This is an emotional read with two amazing and strong characters that are well developed. From start to finish I found myself attached especially to Bethanie. My heart broke for her more and more as I learned her story. The author gave a true look at what survivors deal with. Sometimes it is not all sunshine and rainbows, but the Bethanie shows you what true strength really is.

Whew....grab the tissues and enjoy this emotional ride! Bethie has been discharged from the army after a traumatic war experience. Remy has loved her his entire life and can't wait for her to come home. He has vowed he'll never let her go again. But is Bethie the same woman as she was when she joined the army? Can she be what he needs? Can he convince her that she deserves him as much as he deserves her? Can he "fix" her? So well written. A tormented woman and a man who wants to just love her, all of her. Just the perfect love story. Loved the characters, loved the story. A nice emotional read

Absolutely loved it.

It made a nice change for the Army veteran to be female and Army Staff Sergeant Bethanie Reynolds is such a strong character in this book. Oh and lets not forget Remy, he can definitely melt your panties.

I think Skye has done a fantastic job covering this subject especially the attack and its after affects, a big **high five** from me.

Warning you may need some tissues.

Behind My Charade is a quick and powerful read. It is a novella so some details are given quick and skimmed over at times. It is a pretty fast paced story. Beathanie and Remy together is an emotional roller-coaster but watching them overcome obstacles is beautiful. The emotions are just pulled right out and you are left a mess. Sky Turner handles some pretty tough subjects with care and sensitivity. I always enjoy reading her novels.

I really enjoyed this book as it was "drama" free and just getting down to the basics of love. I loved that the book centered around Bethanie dealing with the guilt of surviving and how Remy had to show her that she was loved but not push too hard and lose her forever. It was evident how much he loved her and how he did what ever she needed to help her through it all.

This was the first time I have read this author and it certainly will not be my last.

This book started great and kept my attention all the way through. Most times it is the male character that is coming home in a military romance book, this one is the female character. The way the author told the story is something that I found very believable and I could see happening. The way the PTSD is written about the author did it with grace. I received this ARC for a fair and honest review.

As usual Skye Turner gives a great read . I enjoyed ever word from chapter one until the end . The writing was engaging , the plot was consistent ,and the characters were some of the more likable then I have read in a while . This book was a book about healing ,a second chance of love and the power of what it can do how it can heal ,Remy never forgot the woman he fell in love with so long ago and Bethanie no longer knows how to love , how to let go and just be . This story was so full of healing and letting go of the guilt and living . This book was speak to even the hardest of heart . I cried ,yup took me a while to stop to because their love was beautiful ,their pain and in the end their growth . This book was awesome their isn't much I can say other than its a must read .I cant wait to see what she comes out with next .

Behind My Charade is a great but pretty emotional military romance and I loved every minute of it. Its a fast paced read that deals with survivors guilt, a form of PTSD.

Remy and Bethanie were the best of friends growing up maybe more than friends, but they lost contact when Bethanie joined the military. Now eleven years later Bethanie is back in her home town after being injured in the line of duty and this time around Remy is determined she will finally be his girl, but it won't be easy to break down Bethanie's walls.

A great read that I would highly recommend!!

A story full of love, hurt, sadness, hope and belief. Two people who have different dreams but love each other. One dreams of service and protecting her country, the other of serving in a different way, feeding the country.

Can they survive? Can they find the way back?
Read the story, it will drawl you in.

Behind My Charade

OMGosh: I love a good military love story and Skye Turner did it again!!

You really feel what Bethie is going through, the anguish, and heartache of dealing with PTSD: and how it affects everyone differently. And Remy loves her so much and he proves he’s not going anywhere and is willing to give her space, time, and understanding.

Honestly, I love reading Skye’s books because all of her characters are so heart felt and you fall in love with them, you feel for them and you want to know their stories. I definitely recommend this book!
