He leaves them for several, short minutes to make a secret phone call to his ex-mistress. When he returns, they have vanished without a trace. Their abandoned drinks are set upon their seats, right next to his wife's phone.
He is forced to admit that they have gone, and calls the police for help. An investigation is launched, but it's immediately obvious to Clayton that the chief detective is determined to find him guilty...
With no one to turn to and with the police case drawing focus around him, he is forced to start his own investigation.
Clayton has been keeping secrets, but it soon becomes apparent that his wife has some disturbing secrets of her own...And the more he digs, the more he discovers that these secrets may just be the cause of her mysterious disappearance...

I picked this one up after the cover caught my eye and I just knew I had to read it. The story held my attention straight away and the book only picked up pace as it went on, so many twists and turns that kept me guessing. The characters, I thought, were really vivid, as were the descriptions. No cookie-cutter or cardboard cut-outs here. While My Back Was Turned is definitely a book worth reading.

This book started at a steady pace but before long I got really engrossed in this novel. After a few chapters I became totally immersed in the story and forgot that I was actually reading a book, as the text seemed to come to life. Time flew by and I really felt like I was there and that I have actually lived through the journey through the eyes of the lead character, Clayton.
I would definitely recommend and look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

I'm so glad I managed to get a copy of this book. I got an arc copy and am so glad I did. Very well written. I found the book to be truly gripping from start to finish. I finished in just a few sittings. Every time I picked it up, I found it hard to put down again which I enjoyed, although it did make me late for work a few times. A fantastic book, thanks again.

wow! I couldn't put it down. Usually these sort of stories tell the woman/wife's point of view and side of the story. This is why this book is more interesting as it tells the story from the husbands view. It was interesting to see the husbands side. So many twists and turns aswell and lots of action!

A brilliant crime thriller that kept me invested from the first to the last page. A few twists and turns and a damn good conclusion. I thoroughly enjoyed this title and look forward to reading more from Blackwell.

It only takes a brief moment

Once we knew about Helen's family it was rather obvious how it was going to end...... or was it? Looking forward to a sequal.

A quick easy read, believable for the first three quarters of the book, the ending was a James Bond type impossible from the far fetched point of view. Guess I've been spoilt by reading so many Peter James books .

Badly written

Poor Clayton was forced to have an affair and then felt guilty. When his wife and daughter disappear the police suspect Clayton. That was as far as I got. Clayton was pathetic and the police unbelievable.
