Secret of the Master

Rate this book
It’s been two weeks since Tommy Travers broke a deadly curse in his town, one he accidentally brought with him from the World of Books. Being trained how to control his new power is more important than ever. As Tommy enters a book under the guidance of his trainer Amelia, however, the repercussions of the curse are not yet over. A wizard escaped from the World of Books read Tommy’s mind and he knows where the Gifted are. If the evil wizard finds a way to unlock his magic, the warehouse, the Gifted—the world—will be his. Tommy and his new friends must find a way to gain back all they’ve lost. But time is running out, and there’s something Amelia hasn’t told him. A secret—one that makes him, an amateur Gifted who’s hardly begun training, the only one who can defeat Mephitis before it’s too late. In this sequel to Gift of the Master, join Tommy as he finds his true place among the Gifted and braves his most dangerous book yet.

I love this book. It is as good as the first one, which is saying a lot. It has everything a fantasy lover could want, except maybe a dragon, but there are other equally fantastic beasts, so I didn't miss the dragon. If you like fantasy, you will love this!

This is quite an engaging read. I'm not a of most book series, because sometimes they get bogged down ("Wheel of Time," I'm looking at you). This is definitely not a series like that. From the first book, I was hooked, and the second just pulled me in even more. Fluegel adeptly manages to keep things moving, as well as fresh. There's no recycled plot, which is good. He's managed to craft a world where literally anything can happen, so the only limits are his imagination.

His main character, Tommy, is definitely a sympathetic character. You definitely get a sense of who all the characters are in the book, and there's enough suspense to keep you turning pages. And I like the idea of being able to pop right into a story. I've wanted to do that since I was a teen. And while I'd definitely get the first book to get a good sense of what's going on, it's not required, but this book does address the first one here and there.

Nice job. I can totally recommend this.

Another great story. After Tommy gets his first real initiation into the book world everything goes wrong. First, Tommy can't jump back out of the story until his mother calls him. Second, the Evil Wizard and his flunky take over the warehouse and are randomly killing the gifted. They are trying to find the hidden chamber that contains all of the things that were brought into the real world from the story world. Tommy and his friends will have to go into a book and find the answers they need to restore their warehouse/home.
Another action packed story. We meet some new gifted and a few others along the way. A great YA book with all of the teenage issues that go with them.

The story continues of Tommy Travers and his trainer Amelia. The ability to travel forward and back in time, to new worlds and dimensions; literally to anywhere you want to go by just opening a book, reading a few lines and diving in. In the Secret of the Masters Tommy travels back in history and to another planet, but I will not go further than that because I wouldn’t want to spoil the book for you. I can tell you this though, if you enjoy good fantasy this book is wonderful. The second book in this series was just as well written and exciting as the first and I am looking forward to the third book in the series.

An original tale!
This was very well written. There are a lot of plot twists and action. It is not strictly necessary to have read the first book, but the reader definitely gets more out of this second book having read the first book in the series. The story flowed nicely and I found it very hard to put the book down. Author Robert Fluegel did not disappoint with the second book. The world he has created is unique and well thought out with engaging and well drawn characters. Surely every book lover has stories he or she has wanted to actually live through. I highly recommend both books in this series

Another well spun tale written how books should be written. Yes, it is one of a series - BUT it could work as a standalone read - and do so very well. Engaging from the beginning this book will seem to magically pull you into the story until you find yourself immersed fully turning from page to page to discovery what lies next. Grab your copy, get something to drink, something to nibble and settle back to breach into the next adventure of the Master as he once more enters the World of Books.

I am most of the way through the book. I got this book free from the author and am very glad I did. I found the book to be well thought out. An interesting fantasy that keeps me turning the pages. I didn't read book 1 first and should have. But once I got into this book I didn't want to stop reading. I highly recommend this book, especially if you have read book 1. I like the genre and this book adds new ideas and possibilities to it.
