Lady Trevarren and the Emerald Brooch
After their father, an irresponsible Earl, loses his estate to Lord Rupert Northcote, the dissolute Earl of Winstanley, Lady Sophie Trevarren and her young brother Daniel are forced to live with their kindly Uncle and Aunt.
Amongst that lost to them is a brooch that holds a secret that only Sophie knows. She is determined to get it back in order to secure the future for her young brother.
Holding up the Winstanley Coach she gets more than she bargains for because the man she holds up is not the Earl of Winstanley but his brother Colonel Harry Northcote, a veteran returning from the Peninsular Wars and a far more dangerous prospect.
Colonel Northcote is not for one moment fooled by the masked young girl who holds him up and determines to find out who she is and why she harbours a grudge against his family.
Returning home, he slowly discovers that not all is as it should be. As he slowly uncovers his brother’s criminal activities and endeavours to unmask the identity of his lady rogue, he is drawn into a web of treachery and deceit that will eventually lead to murder.
The problem is that Lady Sophie Trevarren, the woman of his dreams, is his prime suspect. Firstly, as his lady rogue and later as a murderer.
As he delves deeper into the mystery his own life is threatened. Facing certain death, he has no one to save him. Or has he?
This is a clean romance with a moving plot but devoid of descriptive sex.

A good enough read with a nice meshing of adventure and romance.

This was a little gem of a story interspersed with amusing snippets of humour, mainly provided through the antics of the heroine and her little brother as they do their best to keep the hero from the discovering Sophie's involvement in his hold-up by a highwayman. A good plot with a feisty heroine and an honourable hero.
There is a good old murder halfway through to keep you engaged and a some good secondary characters to provide conflict.
All in all a good read with a good mix of romance and adventure
