Definition of a Bad Girl

Rate this book
Leshaun is the true definition of a bad girl, who goes from corporate to hood and back again with ease. While she lets others think that she's just one of a team, those who truly know her understand that she run the streets all by herself. Let Leshaun tell it, a big girl can be the whore, the pimp, and the broad that owns the sleazy hotel all at the same time. The issue is that others need to respect her gangster. When someone has the balls to burn her hotel to the ground and pick off her whores one by one, Leshaun will have to fight this battle with every ounce of strength she has. She is the definition of a bad girl, and the next time you see her, it will be in the dictionary next to “get rich or die trying.” Sometimes, the king of the streets isn't a king at all.

The blurb of this book at my library intrigued me.

I mean, look at that. A badass chick with a typically masculine name who defies all the typical tropes? A woman who's a pimp? Someone who navigates between a life ruling the streets and a life as a corporate businessperson? A 'big girl' who's presumably plus sized? An action-mystery? Sign me up right now!

Unfortunately, the book lost me on the first page and a half when it launched, from the very first sentence, into a crude and poorly written sex scene. It includes terrible dialogue - "Mmm, shit feels so good!" - the word 'phat' to describe a woman's genitals, jabbing of a tongue, and a woman's orgasm being described as 'busting a nut.' (And, yes, it does appear she's a cisgender woman, given she's getting penetrative oral that includes both orifices.) Oh, and there's a 'veined shaft.'

It's a shame the promised content of this book is hidden behind trash, but if you're gonna lead with a sex scene - especially a het one - it damn well better be the steamiest, most amazing piece of erotic literature known to mankind. This is not it. And I frankly have no interest in smut wherein I don't even have a familiarity with the characters. If I wanted that, I'd just pop on over to literotica or choose a fandom I don't know on AO3.
