This short story hit close to home for me. My mother passed the day after Christmas and this story is set around Christmas as well. The B&B on Martha’s Vineyard is closed for a few months so Blythe Calvert can take a much needed rest. That is until a small girl by the name of Shelby shows up pretending to be older and needing a place to stay; mind you she has no money. Well it is Christmas anyway, so Blythe takes her in. She is very observant to the fact that Shelby is not trusting anyone or talking about anything. Preparing food and baking is the one thing Blythe knows will break the ice with Shelby and so she introduces Shelby to a few simple things in the kitchen. What is the story behind this young girl? This short story was so delightful and the author writes with empathy in her heart!
Blythe Calvert owns and runs Blythe Cove Manor, a B & B on Martha’s Vineyard. It is a few days before Christmas and she is looking forward to being completely alone. She has wonderful plans which will provide her with peace and quiet and an opportunity to refresh.
Then things change. A young girl, Shelby, arrives at her door. It is evident that Shelby has had many wrong things in her life. The town cab driver thought that Blythe was the right person to help the girl find her way. And Blythe wants to help her find a sense of security.
This is a story about caring and understanding and wanting the best for another human being.
I enjoyed it very much. And the food sounds absolutely amazing.
Another fantastic read. A drug addiction can not only ruin the addicts life but also the lives of those around them. Snow is falling and with Christmas Eve just a few hours away she is looking forward to some quiet downtime. She could have joined her family but felt that she needed to replenish her batteries. However a taxi deposited an unexpected visitor. A young girl who looked around 13 and was obviously a runaway. Will she find out why the girl has run to the Cove? Is there family that are worried about her? Can anything be done to ease the hurt in the young girl's eyes?
story. Christmas story. A young girl is brought to the B&B by the kind taxi driver. Her story come out in flashback and with sympathetic questions from the owner of the Inn.Quick easy read.
What a heart warming, touching story! I figured the story would have a happy ending, but wasn't sure how the story line would get to it. I didn't expect. the path it took. I definitely recommend.
While the Manor is closed during the holidays, .Blythe is looking forward to a quiet few days, alone with her movies, reading and cat. But when the town taxi pulls up with an unexpected passenger, plans change. What is she to make of this obviously lost and troubled young girl? Can Blythe Cove help with a Christmas miracle or will the holiday be filled with tears. This is a lovely Holiday story of peace, love and the importance of charity to others. Disclosure: I am voluntarily reviewing an advance reading copy of this book.
Blythe Cove Manor is closed until February, and Blythe is looking forward to some quiet and relaxation with her cat Martha. Well, not in " the cards" for Blythe when a teenage runaway gets dropped off at the Inn. A wonderfully written story of the magic of healing at Blythe Cove Manor during the holidays. A perfect short story to read during the holidays.
Blythe Calvert is hoping to spend a quiet Crhistmas at Blythe Cove Manor but her plans are interrupted when a taxi drops off a teenage girl who seems to be running from something or someone. Blythe finds it hard to get any information from the girl but knows she needs a warm place to stay and food. Knowing that the manor will probably work its magic sooner or later Blythe is patient. When the truth comes out she knows she must contact the girl's aunt but will that cause the girl to leave?
