This is the first book by this author I have read. I thought it was well wrtten and lfowed at a good pace. I am living to learn with tinnitus ad I do have hearing loss. I thought the best part of the book was that there is hope and there are things that you can do to help deal with this problem. I will do not learn anything new but I will start trying harder at some of the thing he talked about in the book , regarding meduatation, though ocntrol, stress and sleep. I will not so any of the radio tracks but that is ok.and once Covid gets under control maybe ore massages for stress. I will say it is not a bad book and go out and give it a spin.
Rewiring Tinnitus: How I Finally Found Relief From the Ringing in My Ears by Glenn Schweitzer What I liked about this book was learning the author had been diagnoses with same disease I was. Then again my neurologist said without a video of what happens she couldn't help me and that I might not have Meniere’s. Like the things especially the decibels of items we hear daily and the techniques you can use to not only live with tinnitus but other therapies. I have tried the food ones and they really seem to help me, no more dizzy spells for 11 months now. Helpful info about brainwaves and the 5 different types along with info about workings of the ear parts. Love learning new things all the time.

Not the book; When I notice tinnitus in my ear. When my earwax build up, I’m so arrogant to go to clinic. I’d do by myself. But didn’t work. I’m stressful. That’s cause, start losing my sleep. Then, began to cause tinnitus and that day for a month.
Put simply, the more we try to ignore it, the worse it gets. Meditation triggers a relaxation response that calms the nervous system and, as a result, the body and mind. It also causes an immediate reduction in stress. When my mind wandered during the tinnitus focused meditation, it wandered away from the sound. Much to my delight, for those brief moments of distraction, my tinnitus didn’t bother me at all. Meditation is such a powerfully relaxing practice with the ability to calm the nervous system, and because anything can be used as the focal point of meditation, even something as problematic as tinnitus can be used to our advantage. You can’t calm the storm, so stop trying. What you can do is calm yourself. The storm will pass.” - Timber Hawkeye, author Begin to focus on the sound of your tinnitus. What does your tinnitus sound like? 5Khz impulse wave.
Is it a single tone, or multiple tones? Single tone.
Does it sound like chirping or buzzing? Maybe it’s more of a whooshing sound? Impulse wave.
Can you identify more than one noise? Only just one noise.
As you listen, do the sounds change at all or do they remain constant? Not change a bit.
Where does it feel like the sound is coming from? In my single right ear.
And how loud does it seem to be? 5Khz, I think. It’s less.
Does the volume change at all or is it steady? It is steady.
How does it make you feel, both mentally and physically? It make me feel worried about hearing loss and single right ear sometimes pain.

At the end of the book that much better than the meditation is better, I can tell.
When I bought this book, I had just invested a LOT of money in hearing aids designed to help me ignore the tinnitus. This book showed me that I could retrain my mind to block out the ringing. A week later, I returned the hearing aids for a refund and have relied on the principles in this book to help me cope and ignore. It has worked!
I hear the "sound of infinity" I developed moderate tinnitus out of the blue about a month ago. I tried a number of the manual therapy methods (pulling ear, tapping head, finger in ear, etc) that can be found on YouTube with click-baity titles like “Cure tinnitus in 60 seconds!" I tried Ginkgo Biloba. I tried EMF mitigation. And none of this stuff made any difference!
I picked up this book after a week of costly bad sleep. The good news in it is that tinnitus can be rewired with meditation, by spending time on focusing your attention on the tinnitus, instead of trying to ignore it your brain eventually learns that it's not something you need to worry about. When I first started to struggle with tinnitus my wife would say "Jonathan, we need to figure out what's causing it!" But as the book clarifies, it doesn't really matter, Tinnitus is sort of like a "check engine" light on your dashboard, it's really hard to figure out what the cause is. It's better to address the problem than to worry about what the source is.
As a veteran meditator, I found this to be great news. I've been doing the tinnitus meditation for about a week and there has been, I think, a little improvement - more importantly, I'm sleeping better. I've reframed my annoying tinnitus as "I hear the sound of infinity" using Dispenza-style transformative meditation, you'll want to read the book "You Are The Placebo" which explains this technique. I've also been doing my tinnitus meditation with my Heartmath HRV devices, if you can afford these they will result in a more quantified and consistent mindfulness practice.
This book is a part of the author's "funnel" for Brainwave Entrainment tracks that he sells, he offers a sleep package where you "pay what you can," as little as $1 and a larger package for $70. I don't have a problem with this because... You don't need to buy his Brainwave Entrainment tracks, meditation is free. You can find and download a bunch of different Brainwave Entrainment tracks out there on the internet. You'll probably need to try a number to find some that work great for you. Meditation takes time and some discipline, you need to stick with it for weeks or months for it to help. A lot of people struggle with consistency, if you spend $70 on his (not cheap!) audio tracks you're going to be more disciplined about using them. You're a lot less likely to give up on the meditation after a few days.
Accessible and easy to read, this short book was hopeful and the scientific explanations were easy to follow. Now, we'll see how it goes as I try to put the suggestions into practice. If you suffer from tinnitus, I recommend giving this a try.
Seems well researched, and had a lot of helpful tips for image-based meditations (like turning the volume knob down in your mind), and suggestions for focusing on triggers. I was disappointed that he pushes hard for you to buy his program/his website tools, etc. He’d mention in the book a tool to help but then you have to pay him $80 just to access it. This happened often throughout the book. The other surprise was he didn’t seem to actually cure his tinnitus, he just learned to ignore it by things like meditation, sleep, therapy and exercise. However his specific tips for habituation still make the book a worthy read.
I’ve had tinnitus for ~9 years. It happened suddenly simply as a result of not knowing that the ringing we hear after clubbing/concerts could become permanent. If I knew that each time that happened, I was one step closer to it *never* going away, my life would be different right now. We are all taught about hearing loss but 9 years ago, tinnitus awareness was effectively zero even though countless people have and had it.
The book raises a simple question. Would you take a cure? Obviously yes. But why? Because tinnitus bothers you. So what if it didn’t bother you?
Therein lies the goal of the writing. To get you to the point where tinnitus no longer bothers you. After years, most people will develop some techniques that aid them in getting through their day. Most of these techniques will be avoidance behaviors. The author suggests instead facing it head on. Sit down. Close your eyes. Focus on your tinnitus. Do it with so much intent that the sound begins to *literally* bore you. Once it bores you it loses power over you. Keep doing this and this will become your default state. Once the brain interprets it as a boring, useless, nonthreatening sound, it will focus so little on it to the degree that you won’t notice it as often. It’s pretty close to what we want from a cure.
Ultimately, try it. Until we get a cure, habituation is literally our best bet. And it can only make waiting for the numerous researched potential breakthroughs, more pleasant. We will get that cure sometime soon. There is too much effort in that direction for not even a *treatment* to arrive within the next 2-5 years. But you can get some relative peace, right now. By learning everything you can about habituation, and then putting in the work.
Until that hopeful day of easily accessible and affordable cure, there is literally nothing to lose in trying to create long term, effective, habituation.
The author is very thorough. He suggests we finish reading the book before starting to practice his technique. I couldn't wait. Even the basic initiation process for his tinnitus meditation helped the very first try! I fell asleep almost immediately, and slept through the night. Building upon that with practice will undoubtedly help me live with the sound the rest of my life. My dentist will appreciate me not clenching my teeth!! And, i just finished the book, taking meticulous notes the whole time. That helps me absorb the content and provide a quick cheat sheet for future reference. And, he's right. The details and research compound the successful use of his technique by filling in any gaps from "what about" questions you might have. It helped me trust the technique full-heartedly, which has already provided a peaceful and calming response to my tinnitus spikes. Thank you, Glenn!!
A very interesting book and great list of tools so that we can learn how to cope with our trouble--this funny (sometimes) noise we hear--Which, BTW--sometimes does get kind of strong.
After reading this book--I am now writing how it is at all times--and also taking note of what I am eating and or doing or facing--as stress seems to also trigger a stronger or louder ringing. After reading this book--I was able to figure out how to describe my ringing to my wife---It sounds just like cicadas in a tree, all singing in unison. The intensity is quite hard to discern--in a way that reflects what I hear. I wonder if there are ways to measure the intensity of this noise.
There must be standards, I am guessing. Maybe I need to work on how to measure what I hear...Need to go back to school.
Anyhow--if you have tinnitus--read this book, it will help you for sure--It did help me.
I just started experiencing tinnitus. I was so upset and anxious. This book was like the clouds clearing and the sun coming out. I have been a mindful mediator and when I hit that first reference to it, my whole attitude lifted. It's so good to know that even if the noise isn't going to go away it Does Not Matter!! I am already getting control of it, starting to have longer periods of not noticing it, and know that life is whole and good again, and I have tools to keep it that way.
Not a lot of new approaches to the achievement of a healthy life, no matter the individual' concerns or afflictions. Exercise, eat well, reduce stress, sleep well. Add in meditation, therapy, and the author's collection of guided meditation and sound tracks for $50, if so inclined. Glad I didn't buy the book!
Great book for somebody who's suffering from tinnitus. I had problems with my hearing for years, but after reading this book, I decided to try hearing aids which help with tinnitus. I gave it a shot and they're lifesavers. I got rid of my problem and it feels amazing. If you are familiar with this problem, I can recommend you this hearing aid store https://audiologyisland.com/online-shop/.
This is mostly a rehash of simple meditation use. The bottom line is here buy my audio for $79 NO! MAKE that $59 ! While the presentation is logical and makes since there is nothing special here. Take a meditation class and keep trying until something helps. That's it no need to buy the book.
For anyone suffering from tinnitus this changed my life from day 1.. it's a different approach no one will ever offer or show u.. no one.. its the only approach that works.. u can live with tinnitus if u give this book a chance.. from day 1 no bullshit ..there's hope..
Last year my tinnitus got much worse . I had been living with it for four decades but not at such a loud volume. This book gives me hope that I can learn to tune it out most of the time. I am grateful for the resources the author has provided.
This is the first book I have read about Tinnitus and found it very helpful. After visiting numerous doctors and getting the sad head shake I finally feel able to live peacefully with my tinnitus. Thank you for this!
You can find relief from tinnitus and live a normal life. This book shows you how. Highly recommended for anyone suffering the despair of tinnitus. This book provides hope, and shows you how your tormentor can lead you to inner peace, restful sleep and a better quality of life.
Personally, this book and Glenn have really helped me in understanding tinnitus and giving me tools to co-exist with tinnitus. An essential read, for sure.
The book gives an account of the authors experience as he learned about tinnitus. Within the pages is helpful information including a website and PDF materials that can aide the reader to relieve tinnitus symptoms.
Appreciate the effort taken to suggest methods for coping with tinnitus. It much concrete stuff out there. I was happy to read a more positive review of approaches that can be taken.
Very good book that helped me on my journey with Tinnitus. I highly recommend for those struggling with Tinnitus. There is hope. You are not the only one
The author speaks from personal experience and study the causes and cures for Tinnitus. There is hope for minimizing our response to incurable Tinnitus.😌😌
