I found this book for free on the authors FB page and since I got the ARC for One Wish Away, I though it would not be a bad idea to read about the events that lead to the beginning of the full lenght novel. I have to say that Faris gives us great background on the character Faris, his family, his curse and just in general who he is as a person. He's the main character in One Wish Away, so I definitely wanted to know more about him before I started to read his new journey. This story is a novella but it does a good job of telling us the main events that then lead to this characters punishment and his curse, which is explored in detail in the novel.

All Faris wants is to become great in battle and fight for his country. But then his father arranges a marriage with the general's daughter. Torn between duty, family and his own desires, Faris must decide which is most important, knowing that any choice he makes will have dire consequences.

For a short read, this packs a punch. The Middle Eastern setting is beautifully depicted (think Aladdin), the characters well defined, and the twists will keep you guessing. My only wish is that the author had more definitively stated the ending. Otherwise, Faris is an excellent read.

I already liked Faris, but reading this gave me a better picture of his character. I might give it 3.5 stars.

Something I am confused about:

How it ends:

Note: Maybe mild swearing?

I got this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Faris is a short story, a precursor to the book—'One Wish Away'. It is from Faris's perspective and explains what actually happened for things to turn sour between the brothers and for them to come to be cursed. Quite an action-packed story, it gives us reader's a peek into Faris's life and his dreams. We see the birth of an all-consuming hatred that would go on not only to steer the course of all the events in the following books but also threaten to destroy everything that stands in its path.

The story is good in itself, but when read after 'One Wish Away', it makes a lot of sense and sorts out quite a few pieces of the puzzle. Recommended to all readers of the Djinn Empire series.

This was a great novella. It had all the markings of the brilliant way Ingrid Seymour writes. However short or long she has a great talent of perspicacity
You will be transported to the time and place seamlessly, I could even smell the incense sticks. This novella and one called Zet, is a great introduction to the full novel "One wish Away" which lets you know what happens to the brothers in the future.

I really really loved One Wish Away, which is book #1 in the Djinn Empire series and when I saw there was this prequel available, I immediately downloaded it to my kindle and devoured it right away. I love that it gave me the back story for both Faris and Zet and I liked that. I liked having that knowledge of their origins. I had more appreciation I think for the dynamic between Faris and Zet and maybe even some understanding for Zet, as hard as it to believe haha

I felt the heat of the desert as I read this. Found myself frustrated by the implacable cultural strictures that led to the falling out between Zet and Faris as they struggled with their father's decisions. I was witness to the manipulation, confusion, sorrow, anger and cruelty that led to the creation of two new djinn. Thank you for sharing this story with me.

My second (short) read from Author Ingrid Seymour! A well-developed story with well-developed characters, I accidentally read this one out of order? Again I couldn't wait to turn the next page.

I read One Wish Away first.
It was so enlightening to learn more about Faris and where he comes from.
Great story, even if it has no HEA.

I haven't read the djinn series (yet), but as a stand alone, this doesn't work that well.

I really liked the writing style and the beginning and Faris is an interesting character.

The girl and her actions however seemed so rushed so unrealistic that the end just left me dissatisfied.

Very cleverly told, so that even if its short you feel like you get a good grasp on the characters, the story in it self is intriguing, and interesting, I would not have minded if it ha been longer.
Summary: This Short story gives the background story on the über hot Faris and all the why's and the reason behind the dynamics between the brothers. It gives a very good introduction to the following books as well.

After reading the Djinn Empire trilogy it's nice to get a feeling of Faris's origins. Faris and Zet are great characters and this novella elaborated on how they were cursed to be djinn. If you enjoy the trilogy this short story is well worth your time!
