The only real bonus is the sexy contractor Taryn’s aunt hired to restore the Louden family home back to its former glory.

According to her father, Vicky Andre goes through women like disposable razors. At thirty-seven, she’s only had one serious relationship, but even then, she’d never truly given her heart. Born in 1965, Robin Alexander grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where she still resides. An avid reader of Lesbian fiction, Robin decided to take the leap and try her hand at writing. It didn't take long for her favorite hobby to become a full-time author.
Since her heritage is Scottish and Irish and she’s allergic to seafood, she’s considered an honorary Cajun. When she’s not writing, she’s exploring her state with the top off her Jeep in search of the small towns on the water that inspire her.
Robin is awkward, sometimes shy, loaded with anxieties, accident prone, dangerous with power tools, and has been known to make idiotic decisions. She has been fortunate enough to turn her shortcomings into the hilarious characters you’ll find in her novels and short stories. Her passion is writing funny tales about falling in love, being imperfect and reveling in friendship.
Robin is convinced she has the best job in the world, and she’s extremely grateful for her fans who support her and enable her to do what she loves.

A Robin Alexander book – like a breath of fresh air after all these other books I had to struggle through to like (or loath). Mind you, I don’t always love Alexander books, but tend to do so. So it’s like coming to a nice comfortable snug . . . I lost where I was going with this sentence.

This book is more of a slice of life romance than anything else – I say because I know some people love angst and drama and danger and stuff. This one’s fluffy. Humorous. May or may not include ghosts.

Right around the time Taryn Louden’s company that she works for folds, therefore throwing her out of work, one of her few remaining living relatives contacts her. Aunt Juliana – Taryn’s father’s sister. Juliana offers Taryn a paid ‘job’ to come out to the Louden family home in the town named after the family (Louden Point) and help Juliana with stuff (I’m not sure if it was specified what the ‘stuff’ would be prior to Taryn accepting and wandering out there to the small town, but specifically involves being the go-between between Juliana and the contractors working on restoring the family home).

I believe, if I recall correctly, that Taryn is around 34 years of age, and worked in a company that made barges. Her father, the Louden parent, died when he attempted to ride a motorcycle; and the mother, Lucy (Taryn’s mother, not the father’s mother) hates Aunt Juliana, and so Taryn hasn’t had much contact with the other Loudens in a longish while. Not that there’s a lot of them around. There’s, like, Taryn, Aunt Juliana, and supposedly there’s an Uncle Malcolm somewhere out there as well. So the opportunity to ‘go back home’ (to the place that was never her home specifically), to where the Louden’s found their fortune and place in the Americas, draws Taryn when she’s asked to come. Lucy doesn’t want her to go, but then, as noted, she hates Juliana.

And so – Taryn arrives, sees a really run down massive house – the kind where she’s slightly afraid that if she touched it, that it might fall over (and touching it is not recommended, what with the poison ivy growing on the house). If she didn’t know her Aunt lived there, she’d think the place to be abandoned. Then that aunt pops out onto the porch and she looks like crap – really old, badly dressed, and slumped – not at all like Taryn’s memories have of the woman. They go inside; it looks lovely in there . . . etc. etc. Taryn learns that one of the things, or the thing, that Juliana has Taryn down (up?) is to help with the reconstruction of the place – no, not with a hammer, she’s hired contractors for that.

And so, and yes there’s a point for me to be rambling like this . . . and so, the contractors arrive. The Andres. Jack Andre’s the boss-man; he introduces himself and almost immediately flees, after noting that his daughter will be handling things. Daughter Vicky Andre and Taryn Louden meet. Both note the other’s attractiveness. It should be noted that this specific arrangement is fraught with risk – Juliana hates Vicky.

The main characters, Vicky and Taryn, are great lovely people. The side characters? Also great. There’s Cricket the 60 year old woman who comes most days of the week to cook and do stuff like that; there’s Dawn – Vicky’s sister (who is having lustful thoughts about Taryn and is questioning her sexuality), and Levi (Dawn’s youngest son (she has two, the other, Nolan, is here also but barely interacted with; just like husband Evan is barely meet in this story)); and let’s not forget Chris & Lonna – wife and wife friends of Taryn (who, for some reason, have the same haircut (by accident)) – a lovely couple. There’s also mother Lucy, but she only bounces in and out of the story a few times. Hard to get a read on her from that interaction. Oh and then there are/is also the ghost question – a character in their own right. You see – old houses tend to make groaning sounds as they . . . rest on their foundations. But we aren’t talking about groaning – we are talking about distinctive very clearly heard footsteps. So – there’s that aspect as well.

A good light fluffy slice of life with a dash of romance, humor, and ghosts. Quite fun and enjoyable.

Well this is probably the first Robin Alexander's book that i took so long to finished it. And it is also the twelth books that I has finished reading from Robin's books.

I dont know why, unlike other books of hers that i had read, this is the first book that I had a hard to time to get into reading it. I had delayed it so long before i come back to read it and finished it. Normally it would take me 1 day or so to finish one book haha

Well, the story is getting interesting after the first 30% or 40%. And of course, Robin's books always made me laugh, and smiling. Levi is so cute and Dawn and Christ are also funny. Both main characters are likable as well. Oh and there is a bit of supernatural in this story as well.

I like it but not much, i would say it was interesting and it keep me reading it to know who made the foot steps sound

Robin Alexander has become my go-to when I'm in the mood for levity. I've read most of her books and each time, I ask how someone could consistently come up with such a brand of hilarity that will keep you crackling pages and pages later. Her side characters are the best - they're always the hilarious grandma, sister, or in this one the nephew Levi and house help Cricket.

Two thumbs up!

From the beginning I knew I was going to like it a lot. There are many moments I couldn't stop laughing. The paranormal aspect was fun and not scary. Especially the reactions on this paranormal activity made me laughing out loud. The author created wonderful, interesting, humorous characters. Especially Levi, he is such an adoring little boy and his logic is hilarious. Not only him but you'll love them all. The descriptions of the Loudens House was well done. I could easily visualize the interior and exterior of the old place. The author never disappoints. It was sweet, lighthearted and definitely fun to read. If you like romance and want a good laugh, then this is a book you don't want to miss.

I enjoyed The Last of the Loudens. True to Robin Alexander's style it had a sweet fluffy romance, some colorful side characters and her trademark humor. It wasn't like piss in your pants funny like some of her novels, but the tone was mostly light.

My favorite characters were housekeeper Cricket, Levi (Vicky's little nephew) and Dawn (Vicky's sister).

I love Robin Alexander and I will always buy her novels because she never fails to entertain me.

Another laugh out loud novel by this fantastic author.

Just like every other book I've read by Robin Alexander this was full of quirky characters that will have you chuckling throughout the entire story. There's nothing extraordinary about this book, but if you're looking for something sweet and funny, give this a try.

This is my third book by Robin Alexander and it is another excellent, hilarious read about realistic lesbian women living in small-town Louisiana. I'm starting to clock Alexander's writing style and romantic set-ups pretty well, and while she does seem to have a formula, each of her stories has a heart of its own that draws you right in.

As in many of Alexander's books, this story starts with the new woman in town--or, more accurately, the woman coming back to town. Taryn Louden is the titular "last of the Loudens," the founding family of the small Louisiana town her parents grew up in. Her father has passed and her mother never got along with the Louden side of the family, so when Taryn's aging aunt Julianna asks her to come back home and renovate the once-glamorous Louden mansion, Taryn accepts the offer in an attempt to get closer to her family roots.

She isn't quite expecting the vast amount of work that needs to be put into the renovations, her aunt's bad attitude and increasing eccentricity, or the chatterbox housekeeper who always seems to know everything (but only talks about the boring stuff). And she definitely isn't expecting the gorgeous, level-headed Vicky Andre, the contractor hired to work on the house. The chemistry between the two women blossoms right away, and with the help of some nosy friends and family members, they find themselves getting closer amid small-town drama.

I won't lie and say this is the most exciting read--in fact, that's not a word I would use to describe any of Alexander's books. They're more akin to sinking into a warm bath or floating on an inner tube at the pool. They're cozy and easy to digest. They make you smile and don't demand too much emotional labor--the feelings are always good and the conflicts are always able to be solved. This is the perfect book to crack after a really intense mystery or horror read because it will put you at ease in the best way. That's not to say this is boring by any stretch--Alexander's signature humor and colorful supporting characters always shine through and make for perfect character interactions on every page.

I found the small "paranormal" sub-plot to be pretty similar to the one in Scaredy Cat, and just like in that book, it wasn't my absolute favorite aspect of the story. I'd be totally happy if Alexander rolled with the ghost/paranormal punches in another story completely, but since they take away from the usually light tone of her books, they come off as a little clunky mixed in with such realistic settings. I'd much rather have read a situation where the bumps in the night are actually kids living in the cellar or something, and then we could have another side-splitting scene of Vicky chasing down teens in her boxer shorts, waving a middle finger the whole way down.

My pervy little self sometimes wishes Alexander would edge a little more into full-blown erotic romance because her brief, descriptive love scenes are always scorching, and they always reflect lesbian sex and love in such a beautifully familiar and intimate and realistic way, and they always leave me wanting so much more. Sometimes I read lesbian romance and I just don't see myself reflected back, I see these sanitized and airbrushed queer women who bear such little resemblance to me and my friends that it's like reading in a fog. But Alexander's stories always get right to the heart and soul of why lesbian love is such a beautiful and tender thing that makes for such excellent romantic reading.

This is a great read for when you need something soft and sweet. Read it with a big iced coffee on a warm spring day!

After losing her job, Taryn Louden finds herself visiting her estranged Aunt Julianna in Louden's Point. Since the death of her father, Taryn doesn't know much about her father's family. When she arrives, Taryn is tasked to oversee a major renovation to restore the rundown majestic family home to its former glory. Once she gets her head around, her Aunt dies. Taryn inherits the family home, being the last of the Loudens.

Vicky Andre is the contractor who Aunt Julianna appointed to oversee the renovation work. Despite the mutual dislike between them, Vicky accepts the job because of her passion of working on old historic houses.

Taryn decides to keep and stay in the family home, much to her mother's dismay. Her mother thinks Taryn should sell the home, along with the significant sum of money, so that she would be comfortable and be set up for life. But Taryn feels connected to the home, especially since her father grew up there. The house isn't without secrets! Including the possibility of past Loudens hanging around.... There is also the ongoing pranks the local kids play during the night because they think the house is haunted. Are the two things related?

Vicky and Taryn sets out to investigate this. In the meantime, a spark develops between them. Neither have been in a relationship before. Can they overcome their resistance?

Super low angst and easy read. I know most readers get annoyed with the sassy, crass grannies in Robin Alexander ‘s books, but I really missed that in this book. The good news is that the five year old Levi made a hysterical addition.

Typical Alexander. Decent characters. An old female character that's supposed to be quirky. Crass one liners that are hit or miss. Sadly this time, the delivery of those one liners comes from a five year old boy who's obsessed with his penis. :/ Worth spending a few hours on, but probably not a reread.

Vicky and Taryn. The Last of the Loudens was the easiest get together of main characters I have ever read so far. It was quite refreshing if I’m being honest. No long-winded uncertainty was a pace of romance I didn’t know I would enjoy.

The remaining cast of characters were amazingly crafted. I’d like to mention specifically, Cricket. My god this character was hilarious! If she was a real person I’d love to have her on my side. Everyone else’s relationship dynamic was entertaining and realistic. It made me feel like I wanted to be part of their group.

The unexpected part for me was the supernatural aspect of the storyline. Although the book was peddled as funny (which it was) I was caught off guard reading in bed under the covers close to midnight. Yes, it was peppered with humorous dialogue, I guess the circumstances in which I was reading the book made it spookier than it should have been. The author was obviously quite adept in orchestrating the scenes in the story to show exactly what they were trying to convey, mood, scenario and development wise.

I’ve mentioned before that I’m not the fan of Alexander’s books that most others seem to be. With that said, “The Last of the Loudens” was one of her better reads for me, perhaps because the plot and characters were more grounded despite the paranormal aspect…or maybe I was in a more receptive mood.

In general, what pulled me in a little more was me wondering where the story was going to go rather than a key interest in the characters themselves which is incredibly unusual. I almost always go for a character driven read over anything else. I was curious if the paranormal aspect would actually turn out to be paranormal or something else.

The issues I’ve had with Alexander’s other books I found in this one, too, but on a smaller scale. Interactions seemed more natural between characters so that goes a long way. I didn’t particularly find there to be chemistry between her two leads so much as they think each other is hot and the story is supposed to have them get together. They were okay, though.

The supporting characters were good and the signature “over the top” quality in some of Alexander’s books was quieter. The plot was simple but executed well enough. Again, not laugh out loud funny or even necessarily chuckle-worthy but an “Eh, okay. I see you’re trying to amuse me…and that amuses me…sort of”.

I apologize to Alexander fans. I’m just a tough sell with her books for some reason.

On the whole, this is still something I’d consider to be an okay read but on the more pleasant side of okay. Okay? Okay.

3.5 stars.

This is a nice story with nice and sometimes funny conversations, like we love Robin Alexander write them. I quite enjoyed the characters, especially the side characters like Dawn, Cricket or Levi. However I must say that although I liked to read the romance, it didn't grip me or lift me up. Maybe it just flowed too smoothly for my liking.
So if you like a happy love story with very little Angst and a few laughs and ghosts sprinkled in, go ahead and read it. Even if you won't be swept off your feet, you'll be entertained, I promise.

I always love Robin Alexander's books, her unique sense of humor is superb, and her story telling is brilliant, reading her books make me wish to move to rural Louisiana, enjoy the rustic and picturesque countryside. This book is a perfect example. Newcomer Taryn unexpectedly inherited her family's old mansion, and moved into the small town that named after her ancestors. Contractor Vicky was hired to fix the old house and sparkles fly when the two met and fell in love hard and fast. Robin's writing is LOL funny, especially the side casts such as the old maid and Vicky's precocious little nephew. I even love these friendly ghosts. The happy ending makes the story even more enjoyable.

A hilarious and quirky romance

Robin Alexander is the author of more than thirty Sapphic novels which are gradually being released on audio mostly narrated by Lori Prince. The Last of the Loudens was originally published in 2016.

Taryn Louden has inherited her father’s family home which needs an urgent renovation. Vicky Andre is the sexy contractor in charge. Both women have very little in common but as the house renovation progresses - and odd things happen within - they start to feel a mutual attraction. But Taryn isn’t planning on staying and Vicky isn’t the commitment type… Will they find a happily ever after?

This is another funny rom-com by Robin Alexander with her usual trademark of quirky characters, sweet romances, and hilarious situations. Her settings are also typical, normally from her home state of Louisiana. Ms. Alexander is one of those authors who has a distinctive style and who always delivers in terms of entertainment.

Lori Prince is the perfect fit for this story as she has great comedic timing. As usual, she delivers a very funny version of the written text. If you are looking for a hilarious, sweet, and low-angst romance, this one is for you. 4 stars.

LOVE!!

Everything Ms. Alexander writes is magic!

I love how warm and loving her cast of characters are with each other, how supportive and kind, even when they have to smack down some harsh truths.

What I also enjoy is that the humor is genuinely funny and always has me laughing before I’ve left the first chapter.

The dialogue is realistic, the pacing flows and the characters are well rounded and relatable. The settings are well detailed so you can easily picture them as if you’ve walked them personally.

Her stories leave me wishing I could actually meet the folks in her tales because I know I’d be welcomed and dearly loved. And I’d have loads of crazy fun.

Such “feel good” moments in all her adventures.

Thank you, Ms. Alexander, for sharing your gifts with us all.
