DED Reckoning is the much-anticipated sequel to D-E-D, DEAD. This new novel follows Eric "Hammer" Thorssen as he heads west from Alabama in search of distance between himself and the mayhem he initiated, as well as the woman whose heart he broke.
Riding into the San Luis Valley of Colorado in search of a long-postponed visit with his great-uncle Sam seems to be just the ticket for some peace and quiet. The secluded mountain valley is split by the Rio Grande, lush with farms and surrounded by the Rocky Mountains. But there is also evil in these mountains, as he soon discovers. The deadly scourge of methamphetamine has taken root in this beautiful Alpine valley, and Hammer discovers a childhood playmate is at the heart of the problem.
While settling into his new home, Hammer finds out that one of his band of Alabama meth busters is missing and volunteers to help find him. The resulting search leads Hammer to some startling revelations concerning his old playmate.
There is plenty of action, interspersed with sexy shenanigans and snarky humor. DED Reckoning is one man's crusade against evils real and imagined, propelled by high-octane fuel and gunpowder. Join in the action as Hammer and his new band of brothers and sisters once again takes on those who profit from the misery of others.
Larry was born and raised in Colorado, the state he still calls home. A Navy veteran, he also has been a welder, mechanic, custom paint and body man, as well as a stock car race driver.
The nickname Animal came about in 1973, and has endured for nearly five decades. In the Navy, it meant someone who partied hard, and it definitely was appropriate at the time.
Animal, as Larry is known to most people who know him, has been involved in charity fund-raising work since the mid 1980's, raising tens of thousands of dollars to assist families of terminally-ill or seriously-ill children in his community.
D-E-D, DEAD was Animal's first novel, and has been very well-received, and was a finalist in the prestigious 2013 Colorado Book Awards.
DED Reckoning: Vengeance Takes a Road Trip is the sequel to D-E-D, DEAD, and follows Eric "Hammer" Thorssen as he finds himself in the Rocky Mountains, once again battling those who make and sell meth. There is plenty of action, some unforgettable characters, and a healthy dose of snarky humor. DED Reckoning: Vengeance Takes a Road Trip was a finalist in the 2017 Colorado Book Awards in the Thriller category.

Animal and his lovely wife live in southern Colorado, in the San Luis Valley.
This book is a part of a loosely connected series following on from the first book: DED, DEAD. You wouldn't have needed to read the first book, however, to follow the story in the sequel as the author does mention the main points from Eric's past and how he got to where he is now. It follows the same ex-military main character and some of his friends through his attempt at escaping his violent past in an outlaw bikers' club. You can call him Eric, but he doesn't really answer to his real name:-) too many alliases to choose from, which I found funny.
Even before you get anywhere in the story you must be tickled by the disclaimer at the beginning 'This is not about me or you. It's all fiction.. really'. I particularly enjoyed this book as the topic was a new area to venture into (outlaw motorcyckle clubs) and who doesn't like to read about bad guys's butts being kicked. However, there were sections where you may cringe or feel uncomfortable about what Eric and his friends is about to do. I think that's a good thing though as books are meant to make you consider your values and what you would and wouldn't be willing to do for your conscience, your community or your friends.
Mainly a story of friendship and close ties between men (who seem to all be over 6 foot tall somehow:-), their bikes, cars, women and causing mayhem and destruction. Definitely a book for you if you like your bikes, cars, guns and vengeance.
Engaging although very long read, and a little map of the area in the book would be a great idea (even if it is fake) just to be able to imagine where/what happened and the distances between places (for those not based in the US). In honestly, there were too many road numbers for me and directions that I could not be bothered to read through as I didn't find them entirely necessary to the story. The rest of the story is very engaging even though a bit slow in places. Definitely recommend.
