Some of my favorite things: reading, writing, the two coolest guys on the planet (my husband and son), my bicycle (my husband built it for me), Facebook (I'm fairly certain it's an addiction at this point), iced coffee (hazelnut), and music (LOVE Sunset Sons, the 1975, Dredg, the xx, Balance and Composure, Teenage Bottlerocket, and Manchester Orchestra). I also love dreaming, which brings me to my next point. I have one bit of advice for anyone reading this ... follow your dreams. It's never too late. Get started today ... heck get started RIGHT NOW! I wanted to write a book 20 years ago. Instead I waited. And waited. I should've been writing. But I didn't. I don't do regrets, because the past is just that, the past. But let me tell you there's nothing in the world like achieving something you've dreamt about for years and years. So, get started. Make your dreams reality.

God bless the wankers.

Kim Holden is the most genuinely kind and positive author I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. And that quality shines so brightly in all of her books. Even with the characters struggles, hard to read topics etc, this aura of positivity lingers. I love that about her stories. Franco is the drummer in Rook (Gus’s band) and one seriously cool dude. But Franco is not your average rock star. He has a thing about dating. He doesn’t do it much, because he’s a bit particular when it comes to the girls he’s interested. And I mean that in the very best way.
It takes all kinds to make the world go around and I've dated them all, believe me, maybe that's why I'm so damn picky. I'm not looking to settle down or fall in love, but I still treat dating like an interview process, and vet like a mofo, because crazy or high maintenance isn't something I'm willing to entertain even on a casual basis. I don't care how amazing they are in bed, it's not worth it. Needless to say, I don't date much these days.

When he meets Gemma, a saucy little spitfire from England, he just knows. Knows this is someone he’s got to get to know better. Knows this is someone he has to have in his life in some capacity or another. Gemma and Franco hit it off and spend the time she has in America together as friends. The lines blur a bit, but they try their best not to go there. Gemma has to go home soon and they don’t want either of them to be hurt. When Gemma goes it feels like Franco has lost a part of himself. Of course, he insists they stay friends, so they do.

Gosh, there is so much I want to say about this story. So many things that touched me personally, made me feel, made my cry, pulled at my heart. But I’ll stay mum. You want to read the book, experience the feels and fall in love with Franco on your own. I can’t imagine one person reading this book and not loving Franco. That man is all kinds of amazing. Gemma is also pretty fantastic. They’re a spectacular duo.

Once again, Kim wrote a stunning, heart-wrenching read that made me want to be better, do better, and live better. I love these characters and her words so much. Pick up Franco, you won’t regret it!

INFINITE STARS************

A Kim Holden novel is always EPIC. Her words invade my veins, my brain, my heart. Franco and Gemma's story was like listening to my favorite song, really loud. Making me wanna sing and dance like a happy fool. I felt everything, as if I was part of the story. Theirs was a special
friendship; so selfless, so passionate and super fun. I absolutely adored every minute of this story. Top ten favorite book of the year for me. Franco, the American Naughty Boy is a Must Read!!!!!

Franco the drummer, plays to the beat of my heart.

After many years of playing the field, Franco has become a little more picky when it comes to choosing a girl that he wants to spend time with. One night at a bar in LA, he is watching a beautiful girl, who physically is totally his type. Gorgeous, demure and with plenty of attitude. Even though she's there with a date, she looks miserable, so Franco decides to make his move.

Gemma is a British girl living in LA on a work visa. She is an architect and her project is almost completed, so she only has a few weeks before she has to return home. Gemma and Franco hit it off instantly. Their fun banter and attraction is undeniable, so they decide to spent the last two weeks Gemma will be in town together, no expectations, no strings attached, just fun.

Things will get complicated between them because they are simply too compatible. They both recognize that what they have is special but there's a whole ocean that separates them, and even their lives are going on two completely separate paths. Not ready to completely give up Franco offers Gemma his friendship, so they start talking almost every day, FaceTiming , and little by little their connection gets stronger.

The problem is, that they become really attached to one another and there are more than one complications standing in their way. Will they be able to keep their long distance friendship at bay, or will they cave and go all in for love?

This book was like the perfect song that gives you exactly what you need, when you need it. The perfect combination between angst, romance and humor. This book had it all!

Not only do we get to experience Franco and Gemma's story. But we get to read about Gus and Scout and of course Bright Side is an ever-present character that just adds even more heart to the story.

This series is very dear to my heart. Every book brings me the same joy but always a different type of feeling, never a dull moment when you are reading these books. And the fact that music is such a big part in every story is just the cherry on the top for me. Because Music + Books = Happiness.

Read this book, don't think about it, don't hesitate, this one is a winner!!!

I just love the cover of this book!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎧🎧🎧
Romance: 🖤💜🤎❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📙📕📗📔
World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌎🌎
Character development: 😍😕🙃🤩

The heroine: Gemma - an architect from Great Britain who is in Los Angeles for a project she is working on. She loves music but has never heard of Franco’s band Rook. Gemma meets Franco while she is ditching a boring blind date.

The Hero(es): Franco - he and his band are in Los Angeles recording their second album. His best friend and band mate Gus recently fell in love though Franco isn’t looking for love. He is very interested in Gemma when he meets her and they become good friends right away and more.

The Story: Franco and Gemma spend a lot of time together while they are both in Los Angeles though both of them know that it won’t be long before they each go their own way. Gemma will be returning to England and Franco will be going home to San Diego for a while to prepare to go on tour.

I liked the story and was surprised that I teared up when Kate “Bright side” was mentioned and the guys were reminiscing on the anniversary of her death. I read that book nearly three years ago and have probably read over 800 books since then, but that was one book that really stuck with me.

This was one book where the narration detracted from the book in my opinion. I really liked Franco in the previous books and liked him in this book. I love it when romance books are told from the Hero’s POV, which this one was. But the narrator sounded more like a school teacher than a hot drummer in a rock band that is covered in tattoo’s. I think I would have liked the book more if I had read it rather than listened to the audiobook.

4 "Franco" stars

It was't emotionally fulfilling as the first two books in these series, The Bright Side and Gus but I loved both characters and their bond was palpable, even though not in the intensity as much as i hoped for, but i wasn't disappointed either...so, lets say i was content in the end, at least *smiles and waves*

Slow-ish paced, emotional romance with just a small hint of angst with a lovable "rock star tattoed drummer with a huge heart on his sleeve" as a hero and equally presentable heroine with sarcastic British humour and sassy nature batteling together against the long distances of chosen living places , odds of mother nature in terms of health issues and their own fighting feelings growing from friends to lovers is always a grateful writing type of formula for everyone's enjoyment.
This is where we belong. Us. Two humans fit together. Giving. Taking. Being.

I have enjoyed all of Kim Holden’s books. They are thoughtful, uplifting and frequently stirring, and each book celebrates the power of the human spirit. Franco is no different.

It’s book three in the Bright Side series, and I can’t sing the praises of the first two books, Bright Side and Gus, highly enough. They fit very nicely on my All-Time Favorites bookshelf. This book isn’t a continuation of Kate and Gus’s story though; it’s a distinctly separate plot. Franco doesn’t attempt to be as life changing or emotional as the other books, but it is enjoyably touching nonetheless.

Honestly, I couldn’t even remember who Franco is, but he’s the drummer for Gus’s band. I liked him instantly. He meets Gemma, an English architect, in a bar and he’s immediately drawn to her. Gemma’s work visa expires in a few weeks and then she’s on her way back to the U.K. They quickly form a friendship, and I liked that they don’t immediately fall into bed together despite their mutual attraction. Their brief time together definitely accelerates their romance, but their relationship is built on a foundation of friendship that continually grows stronger. Their shared sense of humor adds to their wonderful chemistry. The challenge becomes how to maintain their special friendship when they live on different continents.

There are some conflicts that test Franco’s character, but time and again he proves what a stand-up guy he is. Gus is featured prominently as Franco’s main source of support, and I thoroughly enjoyed their fun ribbing.

I took off a half star because I could easily predict where the plot was heading. I also think the story would have had a greater impact if the relationship between Gemma and her family was explored more. Despite the slightly fumbled execution, I appreciated every moment of this sweet and funny story. The epilogue is precious and left me with a warm heart. Kim Holden’s winning streak continues.

Note: Franco is a standalone that can be enjoyed without reading the previous books in the series. I do recommend you read them, however, due to their outstanding quality.

Being the minority sucks ass!!!
The first 2 books are 1million % in my all time favs but I was disappointed with this one.
I loved Franco but I was bored. The feels I have come to expect from this author were lacking and, maybe my expectations were too high, but this didn't even seem like the same level of writing as Bright Side and Gus.
Franco had a great personality but at times it was annoying and almost immature, like trying to hard to make him witty, snarky and cool.
Again- it sucks to not love this book-but I will always love the others :)

Book Description

Franco Genovese is the drummer for world renowned American rock band, Rook. He’s got it all. A killer smile. Tattoos. Talent. Razor sharp wit and humor. And a heart as big, and generous, as they come.
Life is good. Steady. Uncomplicated. Just the way he likes things.
Until one night at an unassuming L.A. bar changes everything.
Enter Gemma Hendricks.
She’s a successful young architect from Northern England with an adorable smile, sarcasm for days, and an unparalleled trusting heart.
The attraction is instant.
So is their friendship.
It’s also temporary because they’ll both be heading home, thousands of miles apart from each other, in a few days.
Or is it?
There’s something Gemma wants more than anything else.
And when Franco propositions her to provide what she’s looking for, everything changes.
Will it transform friendship into love, or will it be their ruin?

Franco is a tattooed drummer in a band named "Rook" after going through women he knows exactly what he wants in a woman and it's getting harder to find until his eyes land upon the most beautiful looking woman across the room.

Gemma is a British architect, living in LA for a year doing some work. Having only a couple week left in LA Gemma finds herself in a bar on a blind date that goes terribly wrong until she's rescued by the hot tattooed man.

Franco and Gemma's chemistry is sudden, they're instantly attracted to each other. The pair decide to spend her last couple week together with no strings, no feelings but will they be able to make that work?

Complications hit them hard and they make a decision that could either break them or connect them together for ever. Will Franco and Gemma be able to get passed all their heartache and sadness? What happens when things take a shocking turn? You must read Franco (The third book in the Bright Side series) yourself to find out.

Although Bright Side and Gus were two of my favourite books this one didn't grip me as much as the other two. I enjoyed it quite a lot, it just felt like it was a little to slow. Major brownie points for the appearance of Gus though, that man makes everything fun hah. Kim Holden is truly an exceptional writer and her stories are always enjoyable.

This is an emotional romance with a badass drummer and funny as heck Britt. You'll love Franco and Gemma, their personalities took me by storm, loves it.

Franco (Bright Side #3) by Kim Holden
4 stars!!!

“God bless the wankers.”

Kim Holden only knows how to “Do Epic” and Franco is no different. Franco is the drummer in Rook, Gus’s band and though he has been mentioned throughout this series we have never actually really got to know him. Gus has a great taste in friends and band mates and there was nothing about Franco I did not like. In fact, he was adorable.

“These tears are love. Don’t ever apologize for that.”

Franco is not your average rock star, especially when it comes to women. He has a type, a type that doesn’t come along very often. In the circles he treads the women are superficial something that Franco is immune to. Franco likes his women honest, modest and with a personality.

Gemma was a northern lass from England with a spit fire personality to match. Gemma was fun with a capital F, but not in your face. She was intelligent, and was coming to the end of a yearlong work project as an architect. Gemma was in her late twenties and had her life mapped out, but she didn’t bet on meeting Franco.

“…I believe that dreams fuel life. And it’s when you’re chasing them that you’re most alive. There’s no reward in settling for the safety of status quo.”

When these two meet, the chemistry is instant, you literally feel those sparks flying off the page, and a lifelong friendship is born. Both Franco and Gemma know that their time together is limited, both leery to let their hearts get involved, but sometimes when a chemistry is that strong and that intense, the heart makes up the mind.

“I think the best sex is a mixture of harmony and discord. A battle within the bliss. Because anything that feels this damn good should make you want to work your ass off for it. Chase it. Sweat for it. Force your muscles to burn for it. Make your lungs gasp for it. When we come, I want to feel like we’ve fucking earned it.”

I’m not going to say anymore because you need to experience all those emotions first hand for yourself, but as with any Kim Holden read she nails that character connection which only intensifies everything that you read. Franco and Gemma came to life with some fantastic dialogue that had me laughing one minute and swooning the next. These two together were a perfect match and Kim Holden portrayed that perfectly.

“…I genuinely miss her friendship. A ten-day bond that felt more like ten years strong. Unexpected.”

The friendship between Gus and Franco was adorable and seeing these two interact lit up every scene that they were in. That camaraderie, friendship and mutual hero worship had me once again laughing one minute and smiling from ear to ear the next. Every single scene with these two killed me in a good way.

“If I setup a goddamn Pinterest account, I want you to punch me in the fucking face.”

My only niggle, I would have loved to have known more about Franco and Gemma before they met to get that background info that I crave. This book does move at the rate of knots, is relatively short and is predictable, but this was not about the predictability of the plot, this was all about the journey. Yes, I knew it was going to happen but it didn’t make it any less enjoyable when I got there. As with any Kim Holden book the power of positivity is woven throughout and it is this that really brings this book together. We all learned our lesson in the first book…always look on the Bright Side. Franco is a book boyfriend that is going to be on a lot of peoples lists after reading this. He was perfect, he was adorable, just like this book.

This series is by far one of my most favorite. I own signed copies of all three and have highlighted the fuck out of them. There are so many great quotes. And so many passages on life - real fucking life. Not some sparkly covered made up fake shit. These books cover real life, the ugly, all of it. And I love it.

This book tackles Franco, OBVS. And we don't really know tons about him. He makes his appearances frequently in the first two books but we still don't know the dirt. Verdict is in and honestly, I like him more than Gus. And you're all like "IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?" And I am sitting here all like "YES, IT FUCKING IS."

The storyline that is all Franco and Gemma is one for the taking.

Spoiling some shit here...

I have never had an issue with fertility. I can walk by a guy and end up pregnant. I got pregnant at eighteen with twins. True story. So having half a dozen family members all die from uterine cancer and having to get your uterus removed to save your life but still wanting to get pregnant before the clock runs out is not something I can truly empathize with. Sympathize for sure.

This book contained a clusterfuck of emotions. And unlike Bright Side, it did end on a happier note. Thank God because I can't handle more characters dying from Cancer.

Anyway. This series is the bomb. Y'all should read it if you're sick of that billionaire-alpha-guy-fucking-white-cotton-wearing-virgin-with-an-attitude-type-of-books. This series leaves an actual footprint on your soul.

Oh, sorry. One's a rock star. Zzzz..... WHAT? Oh, sorry.
Both are really n....
Oops drifted off again. Nice. They are nice. They are just nice. I guess they are sexy and hot too, cause like, it said so.

They talk about feelings. They have no conflict other than residing on other sides of the world. They are trying to do a nice thing. It is a predictable thing.

It was boring. And some of it was downright irritating. And Kim Holden and I are going to need to go ahead and part ways. I think I only enjoyed one of her books and I think it was cause the main character was kind of a jackass.

Just so we're clear here, though:
Ahem, that cover model? He's not boring.

What an absolutely AMAZING start to my reading year. This book was pure magic. Gemma and Franco are one fun couple. Their banter and friendship were epic. This little storyline with a little angst was so good. And of course Kate. She's never far from our thoughts and Kim knows exactly the right time to remind us of how epic she was. And I can't forget Gus. Gosh, I do love him! His and Franco's bromance is the best one I've read in some time! This was just a super fun read with a hint of nostalgia and lots of epic! Bravo Kim

I LOVED IT!
Franco is so mega adorable!
I loved that we got to see some Gus too - those two together should definitely get their own tv show! ☺

The only thing about the book that I didn't like? The cover. The guy looks too old and I have a hard limit about tattoos being visible above the collar. I'm not the biggest fan of them in the first place, but anything visible above the collar and on hands is ew for me :/ Also, why did they have to go and get pierced??? There's nothing more unsexy than a nose piercing! Ugh! No offense to all you ink & piercing addicts out there! Just my opinion!

BUT the story was really adorable and sexy and moving and sweet and funny!

This was such a great series!

Bright Side wrecked me.
Gus healed me.
and Franco made me smile.

I loved Franco's story. He is such a good guy. I loved getting to know him better in this book. I really enjoyed this unique story and the challenges the characters face. It is not a heavy story, but I did find myself wiping tears again- nothing like the first book, though. There was just something about these two that really spoke to my soul.

I am so glad that I decided to take the Bright Side plunge. It has been on my TBR for 5 years! The story and these characters will stay with me for a while. :)

Franco's book was such a great follow up/ending to the Bright side series!! Franco was another great character we got to know better - his wit and banter with Gemma was awesome!! I listened to this on audio and wasn't sure about the narrator's voice...not my favorite - but I got used to it and was glad that element didn't ruin any part of this story!

This was definitely an Epic saga that had so many wonderful feels - throughout all the ups and downs. Kim Holden has a real gift for words and dialogue that grab you so hard! Throughout all 3 books she built such wonderful characters and friendships amongst everyone, and was able to carry them all solidly - through all 3 books! I'm hopeful there could be another book in the series someday????

Franco is the third and final book in the Bright Side series. This book could be read as a standalone (only if you were never planning to read the first two books). However I think that Franco was definitely meant to be read as part of the series. Events from Bright Side and Gus are mentioned and play an important part of the story. I would definitely recommend reading this after reading the other two books.

There will be some spoilers from Bright Side and Gus.

The narrator is 26 year old Franco (drummer for the band Rook) (1st person POV).

This book was much more emotional than I was expecting. Things did start off fast with Franco and Gemma. It made me wonder if this would simply be a quick cute read. Or would there be substance? I was actually very pleasantly surprised that this book had a lot more depth than I was expecting. Although considering what this author put us through in Bright Side and Gus I don't know why I was surprised..

Bright Side was so completely heart-wrenching. I was honestly not expecting that Kate would be such a big part of this book (Franco). I knew that Kate meant a lot to the band. But I guess I didn't consider when this book would be taking place or that they would still be dealing with her death in this book.

Gus and the other band members are in this book. And Gus plays a very big part.

Besides dealing with their loss there were actually quite a few other serious topics in this book. I actually liked that a lot. I still can't believe that I thought this book might be fluff. It is definitely not at all.

I love Gemma's job - she is an architect. And I loved her friendship with Franco. He was a really good guy. There was something towards the end that was predictable. But overall I was still very moved by this story. It was a short read. But it was a really good conclusion to a wonderful series.

Kim Holden gives readers another emotional masterpiece that will touch your heart. Franco is the best kind of guy and seeing the members of Rook again is like seeing family.
Franco will definitely make you smile and you will cry because of hardships that are faced. But Kim has given us more of Kate's boys and its an experience that you won't soon forget. A look into their lives and their happiness was for me simply EPIC.

Pues lo he disfrutado muchísimo. Es demasiado corto, la única pega que le pongo y por si corta extensión la historia va un poco rápida pero me han ganado con sus diálogos, los protagonistas son muy buenos, sale Gus y el conflicto me ha parecido aunque esperado muy emocionante. This is the third story in the Bright Side series but can be read as a stand alone. This story takes place about 12 months after the end of Bright Side and focuses on Franco, the drummer in Rook.

Franco is out one night enjoying a drink when he meets Gemma, a gorgeous architect from the UK. They feel an instant connection and seeing as she is only in town for one more week they decide to let their attraction take them where it wants to.

What follows is the best week of Franco’s life. He has never felt a connection like this with anyone before. During this week he finds out about a dream that Gemma has and after a lot of soul searching he sets out to make her dream come true. They may be on different continents but absence is definitely making his heart grow fonder.

Franco knows he cannot be without Gemma in his life, she is definitely the person he has been waiting and now that he has had her, he can’t walk away from her permanently. He will take anything she is willing to offer him. Gemma feels that pull too but knows it can never really be for them, she lives far away with a great career and Franco has his own successful band that he is committed too.

However, finding something this epic only happens rarely and Franco is determined to show Gemma that they can make it work.

I really enjoyed being back with Rook, it was great to have lots of Gus moments and there was even a guest appearance from characters in a CoHo story.

This was an impossibly sweet read; Franco was sweet, maybe a little too good to be true. I liked it, cheese and all but it did lack the oomph and depth I had come to expect from this series. That said, a calmer rider after #1 & #2 isn't necessarily unwelcome in some ways.

The narration was strong for the male pov, a little weaker on the female, British dialogue.

If Bright Side broke me and GUS mended me... Franco made my heart grew 2 sizes.

I can’t even tell you what this series has done to me. I will say take the plunge. Even if you know Bright Side will hurt and maybe make you cry. It’s worth it.
GUS will put you back together and Franco just makes you smile. It’s a fantastic series.

Franco… He was always a character I liked from the other books. But I never really thought too much about him to be honest, sooo when I read he was getting his own book I thought hmmm this could be interesting. And it was, I can’t speak without giving anything away so I will just say... If you enjoyed book 1 and 2 you will love book 3. ❤❤

I loved the book. I think the only thing I would change is having duel narration. Don’t get me wrong Jeremy does a great job especially with the female voice but with the accent. But it could have been even that much better with a female would have the Brit accent ;-)

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

Book 1 2017.

I cried!

When you read a book and the voice of the heroine is in your head. Proper in my head. God bless the leopard print, gin loving, mascara running strawberry blonde in the Bieber pyjamas.

Franco always had a soft spot in my heart. I knew he had more to give. Drummers have great rhythm.

Kim writes her books with her heart on her sleeve and her heart on the page. She gives herself to the reader. Make no mistake at all that this book is a love story. I felt it in my bones. It's an ode to Gemma with some old dear friends who surf and play music in a band thrown in.

I need a taco tshirt.

Franco’s story was lighter than the first two books, but that’s exactly what made this books so good. He, and Gemma’s connection was instant, I immediately loved these two together! Her unique challenges, and his willingness to help in anyway he could just made me love him that much more. Additionally, the ending was pretty “epic!”

Shout out to Linda, who said it best:

“Bight Side,” wrecked me.
“Gus,” healed me.
And, “Franco,” made me smile!

Disappointed that I didn't love this book as much as I loved Bright Side and Gus. I loved Franco in both of those books but I think everything was wrapped up so neatly in Gus that an entire Franco book wasn't necessary.
