Five years ago, Rodimus and a collection of traumatised, lovelorn and/or sarcastic Autobots set off on a quest to find Cyberutopia. So far, they've made a right hash of it. They've misplaced their map. They've lost their ship, the Lost Light, to a mutinous escapologist. Oh, and they're dead.
Utterly fantastic! Never read a Transformers comic before now and gosh have I been missing out. While the art certainly has that Hasbro/IDW polish... the writing. Oh lord, the writing is so, so good! How have I never heard of James Roberts before now? You read enough comics in a row and good writing starts to stand out like a silver spoon in the center of a clump of dirt. This is absolutely fantabulous! The writing for Anode in particular was oh so good. And seeing Megatron on the Autobot side is such a treat. I'm glad actual growth has occurred in the comics at least. The films and cartoons feel like Superhero story lines after awhile, in that the characters tend to always stay the same. This was amazing. Good, good stuff. Oh lordy imma be gettin into Transformers comic now.
Pretty interesting story. Good art too. It's kind of cool to see a purple Rodimus. I wasn't expecting that. But it makes sense that they want to change their color sometimes. Anode and Lug seem like funny new characters. The humor in this issue is good, not cringey.
Whoa, I am way too much of a newb for this story - it may be issue 1, but there are 50 odd comics I should have read prior to this.
Still, nice to revisit the characters from my childhood. And given that this is essentially a story about robots, I was impressed with the amount of personality injected into the characters. Not sure I'll go back and work my way through the back catalogue though...
