Born To Die

Rate this book
Amelia will do anything to save her best friend's life…even when he's already dead.

After Amelia’s twin Marcus snapped her best friend’s neck, a letter lets her hope his death may not be his ultimate end. Now hidden among his damned minions, Marcus claims to know the steps to take, but won’t reveal them without getting what he wants—Amelia damned and ruling by his side.

With the damned threat escalating, the vampires and werewolves will have to work together if they hope to survive—but old habits and hates die hard. With Marcus always one step ahead and Amelia now in full transition to become damned, she will have to control her own violent urges, watch her back, and keep the peace.

To pull off the impossible, Amelia needs Ty—and his blood—to tame her murderous side and hide what she’s becoming. But as they fight to save her best friend and stop her twin, it all starts to fall apart. Even Ty's hybrid blood can't keep Amelia’s dangerous impulses in check—and Amelia can't keep hiding her feelings for the guy she never stopped loving.

Vampires, werewolves, the dead, and the undead…who will win the final showdown?

6 STARS for this stunning and eventful conclusion!!!!

Born to die photo Born To Die_zps4xqqt3rq.jpg

Warning: fangirling coming your way!

Do you ever find an author you wished would be better known? A story or series you enjoy so much you become borderline obnoxious trying to convince your friends and other readers they just HAVE to give this story a chance? Yes? Because that’s me right now.

From the very first sentences of Blood Bound’s first book I’ve been hooked. Maybe it’s me, maybe I’m the odd one but Amelia and Ty’s story just did it for me.

JL Myers has weaved a vivid and imaginative story, filled with vampires, damned, werewolves, alchemists, hybrids… There never was a dull moment in any of her four books. It’s fast paced and really, really well thought.

JL Myers is a highly conniving author, a mastermind. I was amazed when I discovered some seemingly random act in a previous book was in fact part of an intricate plot. I even asked her “Did you already know this would turn like this or that?” and of course she told me she had everything designed from the first moment on. I was speechless. How her brain is not fried by now is a mystery!!!

For those who followed Amelia, Ty, Kendrick and Dorian’s story from the start, Born To Die begins with Marcus hiding. Kendrick is dead whereas Ty is restored but we’ll have a surprise with Dorian.

Amelia’s plan is to resurrect Kendrick as Marcus told her it was possible. To be able to track Marcus and “feel” the damned, she is not curing herself. Why does she need curing? Well there’s this slight problem of her being in transition, nearly a damned but not yet.

This transitioning state is really a plague as Amelia hides her condition to the RVC but is overcome with hunger so many times. She turns into a real feral beast for a few moments and it’s only thanks to Ty’s blood that a slaughter is averted more than once.

I did not recognize the selfless Amelia in the first 20% of this book as she’s portrayed as a real monster when overcome with her hunger. It will get way better thanks to Ty. Pfew!

Ty may be restored but Amelia and Ty’s relationship has taken a huge shift. Amelia thinks he is helping her out of duty, linked in their common goal to cure the damned and destroy Marcus. Ty does not feel he could begin anything with her again as she is obssessed with Kendrick’s resurrection. It was really, really frustrating! Amelia is riddled with guilt each time her body reacts to Ty’s closeness as she thinks about Kendrick. I thought we were finished with the love triangle!!! I’m team Ty though and through. Just saying…

This sequel is fast paced, filled with betrayals, unexpected twists and turns. How many times did I think Amelia would succeed just to see Marcus thinking ahead and evading them. I swear he sees and hears everything! I also had to hold my breath as I thought everything was lost just to see something unexpected and sudden restart everything. On we go, once again!

Astonishingly, I felt bad for Marcus. Yes he is evil and a true villain but a sneak peek in his past made me realize he never chose to be like that it has been forced on him by Caius. It was so unfair! He never fit in, he never was loved, he never…and I shed a lone tear for the poor sacrificed boy.

I experienced deep frustration with the complicated love relationships and my heart was fluttering with all the action “I catch you not and here we go again”. I even felt pity for Marcus’s unfair fate and I cried because everyone will not make it. Once the book ended I was an emotional wreck.

I began this journey three years ago with “What Lies Inside” and after four books it’s been a Hell of a ride. JL Myers is a fantastic author, one I would recommend for fans of Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.

Thank you Mrs Myers for writing such a gripping story. I’m in awe and enamored with your ingenious writing.

Unbelievably GREAT

Wow, what a great series. From beginning to end, it grabbed hold of me, and kept me completely enthralled. I am just blown away by this series. This last book ended as strong as it began, no slowing down here, no cutting corners at the end, or hurrying it along. Oh, no, no, no this last book was still detailed, exciting, mouth watering for more, superb. The twists and turns kept coming, the characters still fresh. I'm VERY happy with this series, but grrrred it's now over, that was one addictive ride. Kudos to the Author, you have a fan for life. Thank you for sharing your beautiful gift.

I have mixed emotions to this book, not bad ones just that i dragged my feet to finish the 4th and oh so final installment to the Blood Bound Series.
As in my previous reviews i've stated that this series is very captivating, well written and you can't help but to fall in love with about every character featuring.
Okay so here goes:
Book started of with Amelia, trying to come to terms with the death with her best friend Kendrick, after he was killed by her Evil twin brother Marcus to eliminate him from her life as a distraction, and using Ty her hybrid boyfriend turned damned to try and get Amelia to take the plunge and join him Marcus in freeing his damned army. As you have read by now Amelia is one of those super strong headed heroins that doesn't get told what to do or think she always finds a way to fix stuff no matter the cost or implications, but Marcus isn't her only problem, saving Ty too is just as important as his the love of her live, and for the love of trees his pretty scary and formidable in his role as a Marcus's hybrid damned, with his powers, strong muscled body and oh so sinful smile.
To be very honest too in the beginning this book scared me s@#$%less as Amelia & Raven contacted Kendrick's spirit with a Ouija Board ( That is something i think you'll never should mess with). Trying to connect with him, felt as if it failed until a message starts appearing, but it's not just a message, it's a warning to leave him be, or Amelia will pay the ultimate price Death.

I don't want to say to much about this book as it might ruin it for the other readers, but i can say it really was super intense, the storyline keeps you hooked to the pages, because you will not guess as to what comes next especially with Marcus's character, boy was he well written. As the previous book's title comes to play again there are more Web of lies, and all is definitely not what it seems to be. Thank goodness there was clarity to some burning questions at the end and thankfully a HEA.

Happy Reading & remember to leave a review please.

Sadly all good things must come to an end.

Born To Die is the last installment of author J L Myers 4 book series Blood Bound. I've throughly enjoyed the entire series. From the very start of book 1, What Lies Inside, you realize Myers has created something that does not fit any of the typical vampire story venues. Meyers created her own unique additions to vampire lore and with this new lore she was able to bestow aspects to "her" vampires not seen before. Her inventiveness offered storylines refreshingly new with enthralling, unforseeable, twists, turns and outcomes. Her masterful character depictions made it easy to not only visualize their physicality but what was in their hearts and minds that you could not help but feel invested in their outcome. Through the series as the story and characters evolve so does your feelings towards them. That's why, while these can definitely be stand alone books, I highly recommend reading the series to truly experience fully what these characters have gone through and the changes that were made from beginning to the end.

Born To Die, as I found with the other books in the series, kept a steady pace of intrigue that makes it hard to put the book down, no unnecessary fluff or filler here. Just when you think you know what's going to happen Myers skillfully turns things in another direction that keeps the plot flowing with even more interest! My only disappointment is that this is the last book in the series! I can not stress highly enough that this book is for adults of any age, while it may be in the YA category, there was never a feeling that it was geared to be. Love this series!

This is what I'm talking about!! You've heard of the major names of Vampires through-out History, well these are their legacies...and then some. This series built me up, gave me hope, broke me, shattered me, put me back together tentatively, then shattered me all over again!! I felt every single bit of emotion the characters felt. I saw what they saw. I very nearly smelled every little bit of ichor and burnt ash simply for one reason: J.L. Myers is a brilliant and amazing writer who draws you INTO the story and lets you LIVE it with the characters. She has you invested in whether they live or die. And when you think you know what is going to happen, she does a complete 180 on you and you're just as lost as the characters!! I sincerely hope this isn't the last we see of these characters and this world. I will be watching J.L. Myers page for future novels. You won't want to miss a single word of her novels. However, I do suggest you keep some tissues nearby because you WILL be sobbing like a baby during some parts of this series!!

Reading Born To Die was a little bittersweet because I knew this would be the last book in this amazing series. But with that said I so totally loved it. This book takes you on a thrill ride of gasping “Noooooooo”, “Please, Please, Please,” and “Ah yesssssss” moments. So much has happened to the characters throughout this series and so much more needed to be rectified before we could reach the end, and boy did J.L. Myers deliver…though not without cost. There’s always a price to pay and a balance to maintain, but through the heartache and sacrifices made we get to see new and deeper sides to characters that make us question our feelings toward them. To me that makes a great book and on this Ms. Myers definitely succeeded. I cannot recommend this series enough. If you love YA paranormal romance / urban fantasy books don’t let this series pass you up. Well done, J.L. Myers. I look forward to reading more books by this author.

I have mixed feelings about this novel. Most of the story line is quite dark as Amelia struggles to solve the mystery of curing the damned. I really felt emotionally torn as I read- there were so many challenges, secrets, good/bad reversals that I didn’t know what to believe or even who to trust/root for. Yes, many answers were revealed near the end, but I almost felt it was too little too late. As someone who reads for pleasure, I found the sort-of HEA not really satisfying. To really understand this novel, feel the previous three books in the series need to be read first to really grasp all the things that were happening as well as the significance of all the characters. An ok read, but this novel and series is not one I would go back to re-read again.

Throughout every book in the series Ms. Myers has stayed true to the story. Always keeping it real with modern music, movies, t.v. shows, etc. And staying with the strong plot and characters that I have built a relationship with. By this book I was emotionally invested in this whole series, and I couldn't imagine a better way to bring the story full circle and wrap up all the ends than how Ms. Myers did. An excellent story, an excellent ending!! Brava Ms. Myers.

This installment comes at you from so many different directions, leaves your heart in your throat and makes you shout ' What??' when the unexpected happens.....although when you reflect back you can spot the hints ;) an absolutely wonderful and inspiring story of live, family and friends and doing the right thing. Thanks for a wonderful take to escape into.

I really enjoyed reading this book, and I enjoyed the story and growing along with the characters. If you are a fan of paranormal fantasy, vampires and werewolves, you should definitely check this series out. However...make sure you start with Book 1 and read this series in order...you will definitely benefit from doing so.

I enjoyed this entire series, it was easy to read and the characters were likable. The author has done well to create a believable world with paranormal characters and a combination of races. The 'love triangle' cliche is smashed a little in this series, although there are 2 males competing for the main character there is never any real involvement with them both.

This book! This series! I am in love with Ty, Amelia, Kendrick, Raven, Dorian and Vanessa. My heart breaks for Marcus and Caius. I am so glad that Marcus and Caius were able to find peace in the end. If you haven't read this series you NEED to.

What an end to to a pulsating series, a series that I honestly didn’t care much for after the first one. Boy was I wrong. This series has grown on me to the extent I didn’t want it to end, but boy what an end. Very highly recommended must read.

This is the last installment of the Blood Bound series. Let me just say, I’m a huge Paranormal fan and this series is one of my favorites. I don’t say that lightly. There are some books you can enjoy and move on, but this is one of those series that you can honestly pickup and re-read for the full enjoyment of the story.

Amelia has a lot to overcome. So many obstacles to face. Kendrick is dead, Ty has been resurrected but their relationship is a huge question mark, Dorian is a puppet, and her people are in danger of extinction because of her demented twin.

Amelia will do anything to bring Kendrick back. Her best-friend, her soul’s mate. She loves Kendrick but she is not in love with Kendrick. Her heart fully belongs to Ty. With Kendrick gone and Ty resurrected, Amelia’s whole world is upside down. Yes, she did what she had to do to get Ty back, but now the guilt that Kendrick is gone is taking its toll on her. Amelia is in a transitional state where she can be turned into the Damned. She can easily restore herself but that would break the bond she has with the dead. She needs that bond in order to find Marcus and make him bring Kendrick back.
Her relationship with Ty or lack of is her punishment to herself and without even realizing what she is doing, she is also punishing Ty.
Being in a transitional state is bringing out her inner monster. Amelia needs Ty to curve her monstrous cravings. His life’s blood is just enough to bring her back from the edge of damnation.

Amelia definitely has her work cut out for her. This book gave me the closure I needed for each character. Although I was hoping for a little more of Marcus. Who knows, maybe we’ll get lucky and there will be a spin-off.

Oh. My. God. I love this book, THIS ENTIRE SERIES, so much!
Born to Die is the culmination of an intense, imaginative story that keeps you on your toes from beginning to end. My emotions ran the gamut, from excitement to depression, disbelief to shock, anger to tears of pure happiness. So basically--- I had all the feels.

I love every character in this series. The good, the bad, the bad that want to be good, the bad that have so much fun being bad. They are well-developed, interesting, thought-provoking beasts that had me second guessing my every prediction. And, for the record, I was usually wrong.

The amount of effort put into weaving this tale is evident. It's so complex, so intriguing, with no detail left dangling at the end. Every question was answered, every mystery solved, every problem these characters faced was resolved beautifully. And the world-building... ah, exquisite!

Love, true friendship, commitment, redemption- it has it all. I wish I had the power to make this series into a movie. It would be amazing. I highly recommend this book, the entire series, to readers who enjoyed Vampire Academy, The Mortal Instruments, and Twilight. You're gonna love it.

**I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affected my opinion of the book or my review.**

Wow, wow, wow! What a final ending book!! And as I said before, I can't believe J.L. Myers isn't more well known!! This series (my opinion) is amazing!!! It gives you all the feels, and in this final book you are taken for one heck of a ride! J.L. Myers definitely finished this story the way it should have been done. And I for one can only hope that there is more.

Amelia, our main character and favorite vampire in transition in on a mission to bring back her best friend Kendrick from the dead. And she won't stop until that happens. And if there is one thing that we have learned about Amelia is when she is has her mind made up. Don't try to stop her, especially when it comes to the people she loves.
And while Kendrick is in the after-world, there is one other to hold her heart. Ty, the Lycan hybrid who saved her in the beginning of the series of books. He had her heart from the beginning, but can it be enough now that she is in Transition? As if her and Ty's relationship wasn't hard enough, he is the only one who can control her when the bloodlust takes control. Can they ever get to a good place?
Marcus, Amelia's twin and the Damned commander is all but set to get Amelia to join him and lead the damned. And he pulls out all the stops.
Dorian may not be Amelia's blood brother, but she knows that Marcus is doing something to control him. And she won't stop until she's figured out what and how to help him. And when she does finally get it..oh boy..you will be surprised. And it will also help decide her fate.

There are so many twists and turns in this book, but one thing remains in Amelia's mind. She wants to save her race from the Damned, save her loved ones from her twin, even if that means her own life. Amelia learns that Caius might love her after all, and at what price he will go to help his daughter. I literally had knots in my stomach while reading the last part of this book. I had no idea which way this could go. But I knew which way I wanted it to go. So my question is what will happen if Light and Dark combine? You so need to read this book by J.L. Myers to find out what happens.
