Unexpectedly this was one of the best stories I've read on wattpad.
And aside from that it is, for an author as young as this one, a huge accomplishment.
Very well written, with just some typos and grammar mistakes that could be easily edited. Very profound in meaning and context. With some heavy sociological and psychological impact.
I find it amazing that a teenage girl has such a huge talent for writing. There are best sellers out there that didn't leave an imprint on my thoughts, like this Hoodie Girl.
Although the author stated that she doesn't write often and it isn't her goal in life, I believe that this gift of hers could be nurtured into becoming a real career. She just has it.
And I am such a huge fan of smut, this didn't even have that, the most that it had was some kissing. You got to give it to the author for making me love something that under normal circumstances would have bored me to death. What little it had it really carried a punch.
I am glad there are young prodigies out there who can transport you to another world just with words.
So thank you Ms. Yuen for sharing this piece of you with the world.

"The Hoodie Girl" was an enjoyable read, yet forgettable. Here's why:
1. The whole plot is based on a cliché commonly used in Wattpad stories, so there wasn't much room for creativity.
Wren Martin wears her favorite red hoodie to protect herself after a traumatic event that left her isolated from everyone. She's a senior that wants to keep a low profile until she can graduate, and still needs to earn some money on the side, so she decides to start babysitting. Turns out, the first child she's babysitting, Ever, is the younger sibling of Eastview High School's hockey star, Asher Reed. As the two slowly become closer, will Wren open her heart to Asher and the rest of the world? Or go back to her old ways and use the hoodie as a shield?
2. I appreciated that Yuen Wright gave the main characters, Wren and Asher, some form of depth and complexity.
It's hard to articulate how Asher and Wren are complex characters without spoiling the story, but basically the two characters' backstories give them more depth and keep them from being one-dimensional pieces of cardboard. I was particularly surprised and pleased by this since I didn't expect it. And because of this, I view this book a little higher than I originally thought I would.
3. Yet, because of the generic and cheesy writing, I felt as if I was constantly being reminded that this was previously a Wattpad story.
An example of this form of writing is in chapter 25:
4. Certain facts that I would think hold some amount of significance to the story are randomly thrown in.
An example of this was in chapter 27, when Wren is accepted into Yale and only wants to go because her father went there, but doesn't receive the scholarship she also applied for at Yale.
Before reading "The Hoodie Girl", I knew what I was getting into: a book fundamentally built on stereotyped characters and a plot full of clichés. What I didn't know was that I'd find so many problems arising between the construction of this novel and I. But, I found the novel somewhat redeemable through the somewhat compelling backstories of the main characters, Asher and Wren. Since in this case, the negative effects overweight the positive ones, I sincerely doubt I will attempt to reread this novel when it is published.

[Wren] "I've always felt that going to Yale would be something special. Something meaningful.If Wren going to the same college as her father was important, then why wasn't this mentioned previously in the last 75% of the novel? Maybe I missed something, because I don't understand why when the reader follows most of the things Wren does as a high school senior about to go to college, her wanting to be accepted into Yale and being granted a scholarship there isn't mentioned. This has happened before with other smaller facts, but I felt as if this example showcased my point best.
A way to keep the thread between my dad and me intact. One of the last bits of hope I had to keep those fading memories. And knowing that it was one of the best colleges was the glazed cherry on the top."

Początkowo byłam bardzo sceptycznie nastawiona co do tej książki. Bardzo przypomina opowiadanie z wattpada (i stamtąd pierwotnie pochodzi) jednak podczas czytania rzeczywiście się wkręciłam i dosyć dobrze się bawiłam. Zakończenie bardzo niesatysfakcjonujące i oczekiwałam czegoś więcej.

The truth is – this was the same old story I’ve heard a gazillion times before and that was worse than all the other problems I had with this book combined. There was nothing in it that would make me remember it in a few months.
The characters were fine but nothing special. The writing was good for the most part, but it had some weird moments. The stuff I didn’t care about got a lot of space, while some pretty important things were barely mentioned.
All in all, there was nothing particularly horrible about this book. I just didn’t care.

O mój boże to było totalnie przeurocze! Wciągnęłam się na maksa, nie mogłam przestać się uśmiechać. Mimo kilku emocjonalnych momentów nie mogłam zetrzeć głupiego wyrazu twarzy! Wren i Asher są cudowni, choć czasami mam wrażenie, że starsi, niż przedstawia to autorka, a ich relacje i przekomarzanie się - słodziaki!

This book. Honestly, this book was the most beautiful and heart-warming romance I've ever read. Everything about it was so perfect. I feel that this book is the epitome of a truly well-written romance.
Before diving into this book, I honestly was not expecting much. I thought it would be just-your-average-cliché-YA-romance, but it was so much more than that. The story was so fragile, vulnerable and realistic, and both protagonists had a major part of their lives torn apart from them, and it was so beautiful seeing them grow and accept their lives, and helped each other overcome their fears and doubts, even in their worst moments. It was really inspiring, and many parts of the story were relatable and touching, and had many valuable lessons.
The characters, especially Wren, were really relatable. I genuinely feel that Wren and I might as well have been twins separated at birth. I have never related more to a character in my whole life. Her story was so sad and tragic, and I really just wanted to give her a big hug, practically every chapter.
Asher was also a really well-written character, a boy who might look tough on the outside but actually, when you get to know him, is really soft and affectionate, and has a major soft spot for his family, and will do whatever it takes to protect and take care of them.
Also, can I please dedicate a paragraph for the boys, or, as Wren would call them, the Pretty Boy Trio. They were literally hilarious, and every chapter with them in it practically had me crying tears of laughter. They were all so iconic, and I'm definitely going to miss their chaotic selves now that I've finished this book.
One more thing. That ending. That ending was the most perfect ending I've ever read. When reading books, I'm always terrified of reaching the end, because several authors write perfect books, but sadly end up ruining a lot of it with the ending. Not this time though. Wright ended it in the sweetest, most perfect way.
I will most definitely recommend this book to everyone, because it's surprisingly so beautiful and touching, and this is definitely not the last time I will read this. 5-stars for the romance, the messages, the characters, the boys' chaotic energy, and for the overall story itself.

For a teen-romance book written online in sixty-three chapters with maybe 5000 words each, this was really, really, really, good.
The plot is extremely character driven and does have a few cliches, although they are absolutely adorable. There are a few moments where the plot is moved by circumstance, but it's not common. It's probably the reason I can't picture the setting that well. Each of the characters goes through development of some sort, which worked really well because the character cast isn't particularly large, so it added a lot instead of seeping the life out of the story.
There is no way to hate any of the characters. You might dislike them, but they all have their moment which was probably my favorite part of this story. It's so real, how they all have their worst days and then they have this moment where you just go oh! and forgive them a little more. It's fabulously realistic. I absolutely love the way friendship was portrayed in this too, and forgiveness.
I'm conflicted on the exclusion of certain memories in some parts. I get why it happened, it made sense for it to happen, but I didn't like the way it was done. Instead of the character skirting around memories, it was written in a way so that I was questioning whether they have this memory gap or I was just reading it wrong.

This was a nice book to read.
I liked the characters, the friendships and relationship. It Deals with mental health, leaving of a parent, death of loved ones, so maybe not for everyone and it would have been nice, to know before starting the book.
Even though I enjoyed the book for the most part, it felt rushed, all over the place and continuity 'errors'. The focus was set on one topic for a couple of chapters, but in the following chapters it was not relevant anymore, like switching it on and off.
But again a nice read.

While I hate that every book Wattpad publishing produces is pretty much assumed to be the same exact story by everyone as soon as they hear the publisher since often times that's not true, this is That Story that you think of. A character who's shy yet outspoken who gets the cool confident guy who's secretly insecure because he's 'never met anyone like her'. That's not a negative, but I've seen everything here done before somewhere else so I can't really help but give it an average rating.
While I hate that every book Wattpad publishing produces is pretty much assumed to be the same exact story by everyone as soon as they hear the publisher since often times that's not true, this is That Story that you think of. I LOVED IT. It was worth reading. The story was addictive. The characters were adorable. The little girl Ever was the cutest. The ending though was a little bit disappointing. But oh well.

I came across The Hoodie Girl while browsing through B&N with my best friend. On a whim, he saw the cover and picked up the book declaring that he would be buying it for me given my longtime love of hiding in my hoodies.
I am that woman who wears hoodies in the middle of summer. Yes, I know I have a problem. I’ve had this problem for over 20 years, it’s not going away anytime soon…at least I rotate my hoodies, doesn’t that count for something? Actually, that may be worse because that means I have a “collection” of hoodies, like some would collect stamps…or bugs…or who knows what else…
Aaaaanyway, this book was an enjoyable read for me above just being able to relate to the main character and her love of comfy attire. If you enjoy the writing styles of Alex Light and Jennifer Dugan, you will likely enjoy this Watty Awards winner.
What I liked about the book:
1. As mentioned many times before, I’m a sucker for the nerd-girl/jock-guy trope. Besides this being right up my alley in this regard, the characters were fairly complex for a young adult romance novel. Both Wren and Asher had a lot of family baggage bogging them down on top of their other issues in the story. I appreciated them being more than carbon copies of every other high school nerd girl and jock guy.
2. I am Wren. There is no way around it. As a recovering perfectionist, former valedictorian, book loving, hoodie wearing, snarky as shit, stress case, I have never felt more seen than I did reading this book. All she needed was imposter syndrome for me to feel fully violated with the accuracy.
3. I loved Asher’s little sister, Everly, and I’m super excited to see she got her own spin off with her “husband” Mason!
What didn’t do it for me:
1. The writing style worked enough but was not my favorite. It was definitely a debut novel, given there were some tangents I didn’t understand why they were included, there were parts where it felt there were inside jokes we were never let in on, and there were a lot of side conversations we never got to understand. There were quite a few times I was sure I had skipped pages when flipping because of this.
2. I didn’t really understand Asher’s fascination with Wren. Ultimately, he explained what drew him to her, but for the first 75% of the book or so, it just didn’t make a whole lot of sense.

Wow wow wow, what an amazing book. I read Hoodie girl in less than 2 days and I am absolutely obsessed with this book. This is your classic high school teens fall in love. Boy plays sport, boy gets injured. Girl is shy, girl comes out of her shell ....and we all know where it goes from there. Not gonna lie I am a sucker for high school romance so I obviously loved this book. As well as romance the book also talked about mental and physical health which is important to have in high school books.

Read the book.
This is a very passionate and beautiful book and I feel blessed to have read it. The characters are so lovable and hilarious, and they are AWESOME. But what I love so so so much is Wren's story. With a broken and pained-filled past she hides behind her hoodie but then she met Asher ( who is so AMAZING ) and slowly they healed each other. Okay, so if you didn't like how this review sounds, believe me when I say that the novel is much better than how I described it. It is so cute too

The hoodie girl is book that takes you on the teenage journey that's filled drama, romance, and humor. Its a recommended book for those of you who LOVE drama and romance. Its adventures include friends that hide a mysterious past. The mystery and suspense makes the story beautiful. Although it is not scary its just sketchy pasts. Its mostly about a socially awkward girl who finds love in the most unique places.

i requested this ebook of netfalley, both the cover and the description got me interested and curious since it sounded like a cute romance story. its also a wattpad story. it follows wren, a girl who isnt popular, shes avarage and gets good grades, who dreams of gettin a scholarship to yale and leave her hometown since its filled with sad/bad memories. and about asher whos a star athlete and popular but who ends up havin a accident that leaves him sidelinedfor the season he takes interest in wren. they then start formin a friendship..
i realllly liked these characters and even the side characters , i like that wren likes to read and paint. shes also clumsy,stubborn, funny ,very smart, sassy but also sweet. i liked her and her best friends mia interactions. mia is very helpful when wren was havin worst days and or when she was havin panic attacks etc. at first we dont know what happened to mia and to why she wears her red hoodie so much and why she doesnt really talk to other people except mia , or why she cant paint anymore etc but then we find out why. asher was so dreamy cute and charming and funny and sassy always teasing her. hes also smart and a good student. his friends brody and zach were also pretty funny and good friends too. none were douchbags and annoyin which i liked. also ashers lil sis is so adorable. even both moms too. this book alternates between wrens and ashers point of view. i like that it kinda started with enemies to lovers (wren tries to not be friendly to asher and tries to ignore him but he tried to talk to her and thinks of her etc) to then them becoming friends and wren is also friends with zach and brody and mia is too. we can see they have a connection but they dont admit it yet. its slow burn. small things happen like a gesture or a touch. they take things slow and more in a friend way even if asher teases her sometimes in a cute way. the book was easy and fast to read too. i liked the ending too.

Im glad asher got to play again and things worked out with his injury and gettin to grover school. and that they stayed togheter even dispite the distance and i like the epilogue too. its cute the poem he wrote for her and the prom thing.asher is very sweet and thoughtful.

That was a cute short book that gave me the feels of the old school YA romances
The story is about Wren who is best known as Hoodie Girl because she is always wearing the same red hoodie everywhere, one day she runs into Asher, the school's most popular guy and the captain of Hokie team, Asher is interested in her but she can't be bothered, until fate puts them in each other way and they are forced to see eye to eye
it was a feel good book and very nice for people who want a short book to decompress

I was cringing half the time but it was slay.

Kolejne "arcydzieło" z wattpada. Pomysł mało oryginalny, ale jakoś się powoli wciągnęłam, w miarę akcja się jakoś toczyła, ale tak w 3/4 książki nastąpiły mało przemyślane zwroty, totalnie banalne i od czapy. Zakończenie lepsze niż w bajkach, aż mnie zemdlilo. Problem jak w większości książek z wattpada: brak dopracowania.

I guess the biggest compliment I can give this story, and the author, is that as I was reading I kept wishing my 17-year-old daughter could meet Wren just to be her friend because she's really that freaking cool! Wright gave us a beautifully written, sweet, relatable coming of age for two teenagers who truly understood the best and worst life could give. The drama is truly age-appropriate and handled in a healthy way rather than a lot of stories about beautiful barbie's and football captain bullies who destroy each other while "falling in love." The characters were three-dimensional, likable, realistic, and actually thoughtful people who acted like Sr in High School. I highly recommend the story and will be looking at and sharing Wright's other stories with my daughter and her friends.

Cute; the perfect beach read. Complex characters, that fall into the enemies-to-lovers trope. Both main characters, Wren and Asher, are dealing with pain and trying to cope the best they can. In each other they find a safe place to to fall.
