Awesome work

I was stunned with the outcome of this book. The characters included the same hateful core but the scariest part for me was that I've seen these people in class, in interest groups, at work and other places.

This is probably only my takeaway but we really have to be better or what's the point. Bravery also comes in many different forms. Missing people that you didn't appreciate, before they're gone has to be universal and it certainly brought back memories.

This is a sad book but then zombie novels usually are, I must admit. There are bad decisions and bad outcomes and even a victory of sorts for the cowardly and mean and the mob. Still it is a worthy read even though, I read it in spurts because of the intensity in spots.

I know that this review won't meet with the approval of three fellow readers because it's too political, not reflective of society or an attack on America, according to -Rob Courtney, Kathy Thomas Duffy and Invigilator, respectively in comments on previous of my reviews. I'm hoping that they'll allow me to write these feelings.

Oh, that's right, they don't get to make that decision for anyone else, yet. How silly of me. Besides I doubt this book is to their taste.

I've been reading and recommending this series as an apocalyptic guilty pleasure. Whereas the opening trilogy brilliantly details the first couple of days in a British-style rage zombie apocalypse, this installment completes the second trilogy which follows a couple of the characters from the beginning of the series as they wander out into the apocalyptic zombie-infested landscape ten years into the pandemic.

A community called "Home" stands as its own character in this trilogy. For fans of the Walking Dead, they know to be wary of innocently named survival groups and locations: Terminus, Sanctuary. In book 4, Home was an alluring destination calling out over the radio waves. Book 5 saw the shortcomings of the Utopian Home with its electricity and contained farms away from the undead. It also showed the uneasy truce with the sadistically led neighboring group.

This book culminates with a war between the groups. Moira, leader of the neighboring group, wants Home for herself. She steps up the torturing and murdering of innocents teasing everyone to war. Vicky, a major player throughout the series, rallies the Home troops, but she's not without her enemies. In a reflection of partisan politics, a few naysayers with their heads in the sand want to believe that every bad thing developing boils down to Vicky . . .

There have only been a few truly shocking moments in this series. One comes early in the 4th book when the quartet of main characters is thinned. The second comes at the end of this book. One must read it to the last page. Where the series goes from here, I don't know. But it does go on . . . This series is recommended.

Flynn and Vicky are in Home, having thought this would be a safe haven to come to, they have found that it is actually a place that is full of issues. Hugh was a corrupt leader, the place is full of lazy people who have been babied for so long that they have lost the will to do anything for themselves, and surrounding Home are several places that are mortal dangers to the site, just waiting to happen, let alone all the diseased still walking about.
Vicky has decided that they need to do something about the vicious encampment that is next to them, led by a horrendous woman named Moira.
This leads to a chain of events that causes a massive impact on everybody’s lives. I don’t want to go into exactly what happens here, it will give away too many spoilers, and you should really read it and enjoy the full thrill of all that happens to Vic, Flynn and all the residents of Home.
Needless to say, that Robertson has again delivered an absolute thrill ride of a story that is not only nail biting and totally exhilarating, but has a gritty realism that will make you cringe as you read this.
The realism is not just about the diseased and the violence either, Robertson writes such brilliant dialogue for his characters, the way that they argue and fight, or niggle at each other, the tension that builds in the community as they discuss plans, or the solidarity that grows between members. As he writes about Vicky’s emotions when she is being spoken to at several stages, you can really understand what she is feeling, and know that this is what you would feel in the same situation (although I have to say, there are times that she has a lot more tolerance for the sheer stupidity of some of the residents of home than I would have).
But it goes deeper as well, it is very clear that Robertson has children, and understands the bond between a parent and a child in his description of several different scenes in these books.
It just adds so much depth to a story that could just be one of a 100 other ‘kill the zombie’ stories, but instead, there is a real story here, with real characters. Vicky’s battle through 6 books now has been an incredible struggle, and with each book, the story just gets stronger. After 6 books, you just want to read more and find out what is going to happen next – can’t wait to read the next one.

THE BEST ONE BY FAR, MICHAEL ROBERTSON TAKES IT TO THE NEXT LEVEL

WOW, what an awesome Book 6 and what a way to end this part of the story. Michael Robertson has done it a again with Vicky and Flynn and all the people of Home, with having to deal with the crazy Moira, unstable and maybe insane, Vicky does what she does best, but will it be enough? To say this book keeps you reading until the last page is an understatement. It was one of the best ones by far and to know there is a number #7 on the horizon is all the more awesome. I can't wait to see what Michael has in store in Book #7 and definitely recommend this as a must read.

Wow wow wow!

“Either way, I ain’t fighting the diseased and them. You can if you like, but you’re on your own.”

Home goes to war with Moira's community, I was on the edge of my seat! The whole pace of this book was knackering (in a good way) I absolutely loved a certain 'pit' bit 😁

"No way are they taking people from this place. No fucking way.”

Vicky really shines as a warrior but in doing so she became a lot more like Hugh :/

“All you’ve been through and you’re still thinking about the community.”

She done more than anyone for Home! Seeing Vicky character grow like it has throughout has been thrilling.

But that twist ending 😭

I have absolutely loved The Alpha Plague series up until now. Didn't mind when Rhys died as the transition from his perspective to Vicky s perspective was smooth and allowed me to connect with the new character. However, what a disappointment this book has been. The finale was so abrupt, I felt constant anger towards the other characters throughout the book including for Vicky from time to time for her stupid decisions and killing her off for the sake of "Shock" factor or whatever was a poor choice. I'm afraid my alpha plague journey ends here. I'm not interested in knowing the future of any other character from the book as there was no attempt or opportunity to connect to them.

I have the box set of this series and each one gets better and better. There is plenty of action, however, it's the interaction between the survivors that makes these stories compelling. It's even mentioned in this installment that humans would rather fight each other than the common enemy - sigh.

Injustice is a strong theme in this one - Moira's cruel community and ignorance of the truth, just two reasons...I don't give spoilers. Vicky is far too good for any of them.

What is the future for humankind, in this series or for real? Who knows, but we can guess.

Highly recommended.

A had one to read

From the beginning I could sense that characters in whom I had become invested were not guaranteed to survive. There was Moira's group and Moira herself who was worse than the diseased. The threat to Home was existential. I was mostly worried about some of the characters from Home. In the end, those who lived and those who didn't were not necessarily the ones I expected. It was a wrenching story at times.

Very intense. Lots of action and due to part of what made it sa I had to just give it 504 stars. I think with 2 books left, several things happened too soon, but you will have to read for yourself. Now on to book 7.

Powerful. Truly powerful. I think this was the best one so far. I gave books one through five four stars, though I would've rated them 4.5 if that were possible. I try to save five star ratings for those books that I find truly special. This book deserves a 5!

My word but Flynn is an annoying entitled muppet. So many characters are so very unlikeable and I'm not talking about the crazy lady who kills people for fun. Might read next ones but after the ending, I know it will be about Flynn.
