False Hope

Rate this book
From the award-winning, bestselling author of Conduit and The Boys Club comes the long-awaited sequel to False Security

Rachel Thomas has spent the last four years running from her past. Forced into Witness Protection and exiled from the rest of the world, she manages to survive, but still lives each day in fear of being found again while trying to overcome her emotional wounds and misdeeds as a criminal.

Mark Jacobson wants nothing more than to provide Rachel with the normal life she’s always wanted. Dealing with his own scars and helpless to change their situation, he struggles to maintain his tenuous hold on his anger.

To find peace in a world she can share with Mark, Rachel agrees to help the FBI bring down all those who are after her. While the FBI believes she and Mark are safe, they are being watched closer than ever before. And, someone is ready to bring her home for good.

False Hope is the second and final novel in the Rachel Thomas books. While this book was written as a standalone so anyone can read it without knowledge of the events in False Security, it does contain many spoilers from that novel. While not necessary, it is recommended that you read False Security before diving into this last chapter of Rachel’s story.

This novel contains strong violence. Reader discretion advised.

I live in the Inland Empire area of California with my husband and beloved pets. I also have sons off paving their own way in the world. I grew up in Wichita, Kansas and have lived all over the United States.

I have released several novels in the suspense/thriller, paranormal/supernatural thriller, and horror genres. I also have poetry and short story collections and have contributed short stories to multiple anthologies. Conduit has earned Bestseller on Amazon in the US and UK. Conduit, The Boys Club, and Chrysalis have all won highly respected awards, while Conduit, The Boys Club, and False Security have also had blogger and reader-voted awards bestowed upon them.

As a reader first, writer second, I love to discover new authors. My entire life has revolved around imaginary worlds contained within the covers of a book. My aunt introduced me to Stephen King and a little book called Christine in eighth grade, and my life was never the same. As a geek-extraordinaire, I love comics and graphic novels, and also review those, along with the occasional movie and book, as a guest contributor for Fanbase Press.

This is a great follow-up to False Security, the first book in this series. The author drew me in right away and kept me turning the pages. I had to know what was going to happen next. There is plenty of suspense, and a few nail biting moments, and don’t forget love. I think this can be read as a stand-alone, but I think it might be more enjoyed after reading the first book. This way you can get the full story. It’s worth reading.

After reading the first book in the Rachel Thomas series (False Security), I went into this one a bit hesitant. The first book started out a bit slow and took me a bit to get into the actual story.
However, once I started False Hope it took all my willpower to put the darn book down and get some sleep!

Rachel Thomas is back to running from Donovan again. However, she's now been forced into the Witness Protection Program with Mark until the FBI can get something solid on Donovan and put him behind bars for good.
But Rachel doesn't quite understand how far Donovan's obsession with her goes and he will do whatever it takes to get back what he considers his property.
Mark isn't willing to sit on the sidelines and let someone else attempt to rescue his woman anymore. He's watched what she's suffered before at the hands of Donovan, now Mark is ready to do whatever necessary to protect the woman he loves.

The author turns the page on the next chapter of Rachel life giving a fast pace exciting and thrilling read that kept me turning the pages to see what else would happen to this poor women. This is a story based on obsession and how far one man will go to get what he wants. It is another suspenseful read that held me on the edge keeping my attention until the end. As the romance build you are held captivated in the action and the romance of true love as one man is on the hunt another holds on to his love leaving us on the edge which will prevail.

I thought this was a great read, love the romance, the suspense and the characters. It is well thought out with characters you can relate to giving you a wonderful read that stays with you even after you put the book down.

I’ve been waiting for this sequel for a while. I wanted to find out what happened with Rachel, Mark, and Donnavan. The story was well worth the wait.

Here, we see Rachel getting pulled into her past, even though she does everything in her power to avoid it. She still carries a lot of psychological scars, and Donnavan takes full advantage of her vulnerability.

I have to say that Mark is my favorite character, hands down. I couldn't help but feel bad for him numerous times in the story.

I also enjoyed watching Rachel’s character evolve from the first book. This is a great story for all of you suspense/thriller/romance readers! You won’t be disappointed.

Rachel once again caught by Donahue her abuser, another long recover in the hospital. This time Eli is the handler and she and Mark are going into witness protection . Leaving she see a man across the street, real or imagination. They wanted solid evidence against Donahue and the organization. Again taken, her life once again is controled. The love of Mark and Eli her handler, won’t let go, they want an end to the nightmare. To be with family and his bookstore, will it be possible. Good characters in Mark and Rachel, and another good story following the first.

Nothing false about this series

It has everything. Good guys, bad guys, traitors, torture, heartbreak , murder, and even love and evil. Not only does it draw you in but you end up loving the main character even though she starts out being a criminal. Don't pass this series up ; it's a winner.

This is the follow up to False Security and final novel in the Rachel Thomas Series. Though I always knew what happened in Rachel's story after FS, I never intended to write the book. I had so many readers over the years ask me for the sequel, and so we have False Hope. It's exciting that readers can make things happen! I love that relationship with my readers, and I hope they enjoy it, too!

'False Hope' pulled me in from the beginning and didn't let go. Full of action, thrilling scenarios and great characters. Rachel has been through so much. I understand why she does the things she feels she has to do. Her life has been unbelievable. I love her tenacity, her strength and her need to keep those she loves safe. Definitely a great add to your tbr list. Recommended read.

A great follow up story to False Security. Love the character of Rachel and her strength against her enemy/lover. Love how Marc cares for Rachel enough to die trying to save her. All characters are written well. Storyline will keep you reading. I am hoping there is another book in this series!

False Hope

A thrilling suspense novel that picked up where the last one left off. It was dark and crazy how one mans obsession turns into a lifetime of terror and abuse. I enjoyed the pace of the story and overall it was a good suspenseful read.

Chilling

The abuse Rachel endured was so horrid that sometimes I had to put the book away for awhile before returning to it. Such abuse should not exist.

This is definitely full of suspense and more of a thriller than romance. This is more because this is Book 2 and Mark and Rachel have already 'done' the romance bit (I assume) in Book 1. I haven't read Book 1 (yet) and whilst I easily read this as a 'stand alone' it does contain a lot of spoilers for Book 1 and I would recommend reading that first. However I will still be reading AND enjoying Book 1 when I get the chance.

Mark and Rachel are both likeable characters and they, along with the several supporting characters, are well written. The book is written from both the Hero and Heroines POV. This is necessary both to be able to follow the story AND to understand how each is reacting to the various situations they encounter. I particularly liked how Mark constantly put Rachel first and understood her decisions. Rachel is a determined character and was prepared to do whatever was necessary to get her HEA. This meant making some tough decisions and doing very unpleasant things, but this seemed more real than the miraculous escapes that happen in other books.

The pace of the story is good, as is the writing. There didn't seem to be any spelling or editing issues which, along with a good story, made this an easy book to read.
