A family in the hills of Eastern Kentucky find love and happiness using the materials and resources around them to survive. Set in the 1950's, Cathy Bartley (author) captured a period where there were one room school houses and when children had to walk to go to school (even on rainy days when they couldn't find a ride). A different time and a different world is the setting of this heart-felt story. The title, "Feed Sack Rich", comes from when families would sometimes use actual feed sack materials to make beautiful dresses and clothes for their children. This might seem strange today, but the feed sacks in the 1950's were made of wonderfully patterned materials, perfect for creating dresses for young girls to wear on their first day of school each year.
