Excalibur: sword of kings. Slayer of armies. Blade of destiny.
Legend holds that whoever wields this mighty, ancient weapon is invincible, able to vanquish all enemies and rule entire lands. But more than a thousand years after the mythical kingdom of Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, tales of Excalibur and its exploits have long been considered only that: legend.
That is, until an astonishing archaeological find in France convinces former secret agent Sean Wyatt and his sidekick, Tommy Schultz, that even this unlikeliest of myths is rooted in a truth that now threatens the modern world.
Racing against time and a North Korean madman bent on finding, and brandishing, this ancient blade of unstoppable power, Wyatt and Schultz must also outwit an underground brotherhood sworn to keep the secrets of this sacred sword for eternity.
In yet another heart-pounding tale with more twists than the ancient legend itself, beloved author Ernest Dempsey’s The Excalibur Key is a thrill ride like no other—and will keep you guessing until the very end.
Ernest Dempsey is a huge fan of action/adventure thrillers and science fiction.
He has been creating stories since he was in high school but never published a book until 2010, long after the days of high school were gone.
His action & adventure books come from a lineage similar to Clive Cussler, Dan Brown, Steve Berry, and James Rollins. While his science fiction novels are full of influence from Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, The Matrix movie, and Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott.
He is quickly becoming one of the hottest fiction authors in the book world.
I am amazed by all of the 5 star reviews for this book. It seemed kind of juvenile to me. There was no real character development; the good guys were Good and in excellent physical condition and great fighters and quick thinkers. Very cliched. The writing was weak.
The Excalibur Key (#11) - a review by Rosemary Kenny
Based on King Arthur's legendary sword Excalibur - with a twist! Sean and Tommy must work together to find the trail of the legendary power symbol, that turns out to have supernatural force due to a unique component within it, used over times past by such leaders as Caesar, Charlemagne, Alexander the Great etc., to seize power and become invincible in battle. In competition with our heroes is Min Woo, a treacherous Communist leader in China who has (unknown to Tommy or anyone outside), kept Tommy's parents - long presumed by him and all concerned to have been killed in a tragic plane crash 20 years before - prisoner, trying to force them to give him the sword's secret whereabouts. Can the duo outsmart their enemies and restore the all-powerful device to its hiding place before civilization is reduced to ruins? Read on to find out!
It was ok, it was free and I believe it was the author's first novel. Somehow the characters and writing style did not convince me. Feels a bit like your neighbour had written it. Obviously this is a far fetched story, but so are the ones from , J Edward Kennedy, Scott Mariani which have a story line and research details that keep you reading. I may try one more.
Typical Sean Wyatt story. Lots of action. Good mixture of fact and fiction. Good characters. I was a little disappointed with the two main characters though. Sean was not his usual invincible self. He seemed to struggle more than normal whenever he was in a fight. Tommy bordered on over the top with any physical exertion. Noticeable difference from other books in the series. Still a good read though. Recommended.
An ED. Mystery Adventure Thriller (SWAT - 11)/Excalibur/Location/Created a Definite Modern Mystery
ED. has. penned the eleventh novel. It is the eleventh novel in the Sean Wyatt Adventure . In this instance the item is one of great notoriety, King Arthur's sword Excaliber. Is it fact or fiction. It is a tale that has been talked about since the days of King Arthur and his knights. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
This book is a good read, though the characters become a bit repetitive after one has read a few books (not all bad). I do enjoy the historical information Mr Dempsey adds. And at the end he explains what is fact or fiction. I like that a lot. Further, each book deals with a history segment you sort of know or have heard of and the locations are well described. He delves into the storylines we were not taught in High School or College. Well done, Sir!
The Excalibur Key chases the story of the world's most famous sword through history and the great generals and kings that may have wielded it. This is a fairly solid story, but it has some flaws. As usual, super spy Sean manages to get captured again. The bad guys are over-the-top. And the leverage they hold stretches the imagination. However, other than the typical violence for this genre, it is a clean, family friendly story with some interesting historical details.
These story lines are top notch. I won't give away anything, but there were a few things I questioned right up until the big climax. Then it all made sense.
If this were real life, Sean Wyatt would need to have his head examined. He's always taking hard hits to his head, and TBIs are nothing to take lightly. We know from football players how bad accumulative head injuries are. At the rate Sean is going, he would in real life be in serious trouble.
Yet another great read from Mr Dempsey this time centring around the legendary Sword Excalibur nice twist involving the North Koreans and a shady secret organisation. Nice to see Adriana involved and another interesting character who I’m sure we’ll learn more about. Keep up the great work Ernie thank you.
I can’t get enough of these Sean Wyatt adventures. Sadly, I have read all but three and I’m hoping there will be more from this author. Highly recommended to any reader who enjoys a thrilling, white-knuckle ride to countries all over the world chasing historical artefacts.
I simply can not put theuse books down . The intrigue and the incredible amount of research is inspiring and seductive. Well done, Mr. Dempsey !
You have also fleshed out your characters so vividly that I can see them in my minds eye. This series should be made into a television/motion picture production. It would rival Dan Brown's work.
I’ve read all of the Sean Wyatt books and this one is my favorite so far. Ernest Dempsey really spins a yarn with just enough fact vs fiction to create plausibility. I really appreciate the evolution of the characters and that they grow in their relationships and abilities. It’s very refreshing!Thank you for a great read!
I have read approximately eight of this series and this was one of the best. A great plot. A feasible storyline, new characters and filled with action, suspense, International drama and of course multiple murders. The good guys win and there is a dramatic ending that takes place in North Korea. A must read.
Enjoyable actioner in which Sean, Adrianna, Tommy, & Co. search for Excalibur in competition with other parties, both good and bad. Not a lot new in storyline, but some surprises make this different in the series. Action sequences were good and, as always, I love the chemistry between the characters.
I have read several of Mr. Demsey’s stories featuring Sean Wyatt. They are fun escapism and move at an exciting pace. I wish Mr. Dempsey would include pictures or diagrams of the places he refers too in his books. My only critique. I will read more books in this series.
Once again Sean Wyatt saves the day, but boy does he take a beating doing it. Naturally with Excalibur at the heart of this quest it immediately sucks you into the story and romance of it all. The action is amazing and constant. Loved this story, it’s one of my favorite so far.
Could not put the book down! Ernest does another outstanding job writing about Sean and his peeps! Great action, keeps you wanting more!! Look forward to seeing what Sean looks for next!!
Excalibur is entertaining but predictable, shallow and unbelievable at the same time. If you find yourself on vacation with an afternoon free, it's still a fun read.
What can I say that I haven't already said, fantastic story, strong and a emotional story. The history in this story was so spot on, made me want to visit these historical places one day. Now onward to another Sean and Tommy adventure.
This is the second book I've read by this author. I enjoyed the premise of the novel and enjoyed the three-way contest to see who reached the artifact first but I found much of the gunplay and violence unnecessary and distracting to the story.
I have read lots of books over the years. However, this book is in my top 10. Wow! So much history; so much research went into writing this book. I am truly grateful to the author for spinning a new twist to Excalibur. Absolutely, love it!
Sean Wyatt is becoming one of my favorite characters and author Ernest Dempsey never disappoints with his attention to historic detail. If you haven't given Dempsey some of your time yet, do it before summer ends.
Take a historic event or belief, stir in a big dollop of what if mixed with a good helping of bad guys and fold in a hero or two and you end up with a fun, action packed adventure story. A must for Sean Wyatt fans.
With each book I marvel at Ernest Dempsey's ability to weave a story around real landmarks and legends into something I don't want to put down. The descriptions help put the reader into the story and make the storylines seem plausible.
Interesting premise that really had me thinking about this could be possible. The characters were a little bit on the trite side, but were beleivable enough not to overly burden the storyline. A good read none the less.
ehh. It was an interesting premise. Just not my style - but way too much detail in the fight scenes, and it's almost 1/4 fight scenes. If most of the fight scenes were reduced, it'd be a better book. It's written like a screen play.
Another amazing book by Ernest Dempsey, a gripping and exciting adventure that left me not wanting to put the book down. These Sean Wyatt series are truly fantastic and I'm looking forward to reading many more, definitely worth a read 👏👏👏👍😁
Once again Ernest Dempsey pulled together various bits of history together to create an excellent archaeological mystery with a growing crew of enjoyable characters.
Sword as true and as polished when it was made. An inscription in three languages with the one word ‘Caliburnus ‘ in Latin. Tommy showing Sean the medallion inscribed on the back referring to The Nine Good Heroes, 3 Christians,3 Jews and 3 pagans in history Why are the North Korean so involved to hire hit men to steal the medallion at a dig site in France and to kill a scientist in Germany. Once again Tommy, Sean and Adriana are headed to Germany to start putting the pieces together. Of how the names of the men and the sword take on a new meaning. Great story oh how they uncovered the clues and bring them together.
