I have been writing stories as long as I can remember. I am an author with Blushing Books. I enjoy writing both contemporary erotica as well as historical books set in ages past. I love developing characters that are able to tell their own stories. My heroines are multi-faceted women who are strong, intelligent and capable in their own right but find a deep need to share their lives with those strong, sexy and dominant alpha males that capture their hearts. My heros recognize the gift of submission for the gift it is, loving and protecting the women that offer that gift. I enjoy sweet, romantic stories with just a taste of domestic discipline as well as one that explore the harsher D/S lifestyle. I also enjoy writing age-play stories set both in Victorian era where women didn't have a great deal of power in their lives as well as in today's present time where women still find their happiness is greatly enhanced in offering the gift of submission. My hope is that you settle back in your favorite chair and allow my books to entertain you and let you escape into another world.

I read something from Alta Hensley before (Dark Feather, which I really enjoyed), but nothing from Maggie Ryan, so this was a new experience for me. I wasn't sure what to expect.

This book was a romantic suspense with an underlying D/s theme throughout. Adira and Maddox (as well as the other Steeles, including Jennie) were all pretty easy to like. There was no mistaking Maddox's need for control, in and out of the bedroom. He was an Alpha right from the start. Adira was headstrong and, at first, very rebellious. I liked the fight she had in her, however, I was disappointed at times with her inner thoughts. How could someone with a PhD lack logic. But then again, given her circumstances, who could really blame her for losing all rationality? I enjoyed the steamier scenes between these characters as well. Despite the necessity of Adira's discipline, each scene gave credence to their intimacy and the undeniable feelings and connection that was growing between them.

Despite this, it was hard to really get into this story. It took quite a while for anything of significance to happen. The narrative was very descriptive when it came to land, homes, boats and horseflesh, but with regards to the actual plot, some of those details weren't as forthcoming. Things would happen but they were mentioned as more of an aside. I would rather have more information about the Steele men than anything else. And sadly the climax to the story felt anti-climactic. There is a huge storyline behind the Steele men and how they came together but there were no details. I wonder if this will be covered in each of their books? But why wasn't more information regarding Maddox's background (his and his father's loss) discussed? How did the government fail them? What happened after that?

Series or Standalone: I'm not sure. I think the story continues into a new book with a different set of main characters.

In my search for a good romantic suspense story with a healthy dose of kink,i remembered i had this one in my library.
So,i decided to see if this one fit the bill.
Romance:check.
Maddox is mesmerized by Adira from the first time he sees her,and Adira is drawn to him like a moth to a flame.
Suspense:check....a bit.
Maddox rescues Adira from a certain death, and after bringing her home, promises to find out who wanted her entire family dead.
Kink:check
Maddox knows what he wants, and he is the one in control.
Showing Adira his preferences,he quickly finds she likes them....a lot.

Why the 3 star rating?
One.
Her father told men he knew he couldn’t trust his family would gather on their yacht to celebrate Adira getting her diploma, getting almost everyone killed because of it.
That, imho,is very....naive,to say the least for a man in that line of business.
Two.
While i like Maddox’ way of life,he didn’t stop to think if Adira was “experienced”and acted very surprised when he discovered she was a virgin.....
Even though he clearly knew her background, and what her family was like.
Three.
I would like to have seen more of the plot,of the suspense part.
It started out great, then it focussed on the budding relationship between Maddox and Adira, leaving the bad guy with only a few lines before his demise.

I díd enjoy the kinky bits,though....😉

Once upon a time, there was a girl who thought her favourite love was riding her horse across the dunes of Arabia, until she saw a cowboy in a black hat. From that moment, her destiny was changed….

Adira Nazar’s an Arabian princess is the daughter of one of the most important families who have legal businesses and not so legal businesses. What she doesn’t know is that her world is about to implode.

The heroine in the book is strong, sassy but at the same time quite naïve. There were times that she behaved like a spoilt brat and pouted as a child. But overall I admire her persistence and her strength to deal with what was happening to her.

The Steele family has a twenty year old debt to pay that debt is getting key family of the Nazar’s family out of Dubai as they are in danger.

Maddox was there for the save of Adira but in the end she is hers. Mine. This is an action packed book with main and secondary characters I just can’t get enough of.

The blurb sounded really quite cheesy to be honest but cheesy blurb aside hands down. I haven’t read something so unique and original.

There are BDSM elements in the book and although done well there were times were I thought that Adira was really quite out of her depth and that her feelings and behaviour were out of place when it came to the chemistry with Maddox.

The ending was a bit rushed but there is somewhat of cliffhanger but with Adira and Maddox’s story being wrapped up Stryder’s book is next. Maddox’s adopted brother.

I read this book because my friend Mareike read it and left such a great review that I had to check it out and all I can say is that I really enjoyed this book a lot.

This was a good read. The Steele family run a safe house called the Black Stallion Ranch. It is similar to witness protection, but many of those they protect are part of the underground. The Nazar family has their share of dirty dealings, money laundering, and corruption. From the horse auction to the yacht, the bombs, and mass murder, Drake and Maddox must do what they can to protect the lone survivor, Adira Nazar, and bring her back to Texas without anyone knowing she is even alive. Maddox has never become involved with a client, but there is something about this exotic spitfire, Adira these two get hot and heavy. Adira is submissive she likes to be dominated and he likes being in charge. This was a good read. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Maddox is the first book in a new series by author duo Maggie Ryan and Alta Hensley, ‘the Black Stallion Trilogy’. This is also my first read by both these authors, I haven’t read one of their books before. Maddox is a pleasant surprise; I’ve enjoyed the characters and the storyline.
“Sleep, little one. Tomorrow will be a better day.”

Maddox is a born and raised Texan cowboy who works closely with his father and two brothers at their ranch, The Black Stallion Ranch. On the front side the ranch is normal like countless other ranches, but deeply hidden is the family’s other operation; saving innocent people when their governments won’t do it. When an Arabian stallion auction brings Maddox to Dubai, he also meets the daughter of a business acquaintance, Adira. When she travels with him and his family back to America, he doesn’t know what to do with her.
“Control yourself, or I will.” His deep, husky command sent a shiver through her. Huge alarm bells went off inside, warning her that Maddox Steele was not a man to mess with.”

Adira is living a privileged life in Dubai. As a member of a very rich family she has everything she wants. But due to their riches and their type of business, the family is always surrounded by guards and protocol, leaving nothing to chance. When a horrific attack rips her family apart, Adira is sent to America with Maddox and his family, for safe keeping. The ranch is Texas is a world very different from what she’s used to, but Adira steps in open-minded. The presence of Maddox is a welcome factor; he awakens unfamiliar, but not unwanted feelings in her.
“Pun… punished? Like… spanked?” “Spanked at the very least and, if required, additional discipline will be doled out if I feel you aren’t understanding or accepting of the lesson.” He watched her eyes widen and her tongue lick her lips again.”

Adira and Maddox meet under horrible circumstances. Despite her sorrow, Adira is as headstrong as she always is, and she doesn’t make it easy for Maddox to do as her grandfather instructed. Living on the Steel family ranch is a whole new experience for Adira, but she likes it. Having already met Maddox’s dominant persona, slowly Adira finds out there’s much more to the man and the lifestyle he has embraced. Maddox not only keeps Adira safe from her family’s enemies, but he also guides her into his world of BDSM. To her surprise, it doesn’t shock Adira, and she surrenders herself to the dominating man willingly.

I love that despite the horrible attack, Adira isn’t a sad woman who’s overwhelmed with grief. Although she’s interested in Maddox’s dominating ways, she isn’t afraid to challenge him every step of the way. Maddox is much more than just the story of Maddox and Adira. It tells a story of greed, criminal empires and very bad people. But this all doesn’t take away from the love story, it makes an interesting plotline, and I can’t wait to see how all plays out in the next two books of the trilogy.
“Adira… don’t… I can’t live without you. I love you so much… God, I never knew a person could love another…” “You… you love me?” “Of course I do! I’ve told you a hundred times…”

I’ve enjoyed reading the story of Maddox and Adira, I give it 4 stars.

The writing style didn't impress me. I didn't really care for the Heroine or the Hero. And when the Hero began spanking the Heroine because she wouldn't do as she was told, well that's when I stopped reading. It felt off, nothing sexy or kinky about that. Just some overbearing male trying to force his will on the Heroine by spanking her bare ass.

Although the blurb for this book promised an exciting plot with protective, capable, and strong men, and a woman in great need of protection, the actual story felt forced and, for me, lacked believability.

The main focus was on the relationship between Maddox and Adira, which was expected, but the way their relationship developed didn't ring true. Adira has just experienced an extreme physical and emotional trauma which should have resulted in an extensive hospital stay and a prolonged period for grieving. I'll admit not everyone grieves in the same way, and not everyone recovers from injury at the same pace, but I just couldn't believe that within a day of suffering such a trauma a protective and caring man would toss her over his shoulder, spank her, toss her on a sofa, proceed to spank her even harder, stuff her in a trunk, forget to tell his brother to drive slowly because there was an injured woman in the trunk they had loaded in the back of their truck..... well, it was over the top ridiculous. Of course Adira is punished for her reactions to all the above, but Maddox expects to be forgiven for the trunk in truck incident with just a verbal apology. It is so hard to enjoy the erotic aspects of a good spanking scene when one's eyes are rolling as much as mine did while reading this section.

Despite that, the writing was solid and the book was mostly a fun story - but could have been so much better with a bit more thought as to how Adira might actually deal with such a severe trauma. It felt as though her bruises and lacerations were only brought up when convenient and completely ignored when they got in the way of a good punishment scene. The back story will continue in the next book, which is a good thing because it ended with many questions still unanswered, and I'm curious enough to want to find out what happens next.

Maddox

Rating 4 stars

The Black Stallion Ranch a place where one can be tucked safely away from the dangers of the world. When Maddox Steele, his two brothers and their father are called upon to rescue, they give it their all! Maddox Steele is one Hot Alpha!

Adira Nazar is celebrating with her closest family and friends when her life comes tumbling down. Meeting Maddox after her life crumbles into pieces, there is no denying the attraction these two feel towards each other.

Maddox will stop at nothing to protect what is his. But will his protection be enough to save Adira from joining the rest of her family?

This is a good book that includes, steamy sex, hot alpha, suspense and a story woven in each page turned. Standalone.

This wonderfully written story is a must read! Maddox and Adira meet in the most horrific circumstances. The Steele's are repaying a personal debt by trying to protect the Nazar family. When things go wrong they save Adira and take her to The Black Stallion Ranch to keep her safe until they can eliminate the threat against her. Adira's life has changed completely and Maddox is the only light guiding her to survive. Things don't always go easy for Maddox and Adira; however, their feelings grow and they discover they share a special love. Adira can be strong willed and bratty at times but Maddox has a special way of handling her temper tantrums. It never fails that a well deserved lecture and spanking sets Adira's attitude in the right direction. The one thing Maddox knows is that he and his family will keep her safe and work together to find who and why her family were targeted.
This book is a wonderful story. The storyline is filled with strong characters such as Maddox and Adira, Drake, Jennie, Stryder, Anson, and Hadi. Each of these characters along with others keep the action, intrigue, crime, and danger moving this storyline along in this can't put down book. However, even with all the dark parts of the story there is also a wonderful love story that grew out of the tragedy. Maddox and Adira brought a variety of emotions: sadness, surprise, uncertainty along with happiness, smiles, and love. When you add in the lust, hot sex scenes, punishments, and love, this is a must read as the beginning of this trilogy begins. I highly recommend this book! This book had a rough start for me because it took a long time to set up two worlds. Then when they combined things started to move at a steady pace. I enjoyed Maddox as that super control freak alpha male cowboy. My enjoyment of Adria was a little more on the fence since she came off as a super smart naïve woman. I will say that I can't wait to read the future books in the series because when this happens (additional books in what appears to be a standalone series) authors tend to provide AH HA moments as the journey progresses in future books even when they are focused on new primary characters.

Drake Steele and his sons Maddox, Stryder and Anson are experts on thoroughbred horses. They own a massive ranch close to nowhere in Texas where their hundreds of horses can fun free. The Steele men are also experts in the rescue business and their ranch, The Black Stallion Ranch, serves a dual purpose. It is also a witness protection/safe house for the underground or for anyone in fear of their life, regardless of past sins. The ranch is the base of their operations as well as home. Jennie, once rescued from a cult, is a permanent "hippie" resident and part of the family that provides the disgusting health foods from her garden. Drake and Maddox travel to Dubai on the pretense of buying Arabian horses to take back to Texas for breeding when their real mission is a rescue. They do manage to obtain four beautiful specimens from the private auction while there. The powerful, wealthy and notorious Nazar family need the Steele's protection. Several years ago, Drake and Maddox's lives were saved by the Nazar family and a debt is owed to them. The beautiful, intelligent Adira Nazar has just graduated and earned her doctorate in psychology and to celebrate her success, her father is hosting a party on his luxurious yacht, The Adira. He has invited all of their relatives and many friends. Adira has no idea that her grandfather has hired the Steele men to protect her and take her from Dubai until she is safe to return. Suddenly, Adira's world explodes before her eyes and her life changes forever. Maddox will save her, but he will not put up with her childish tantrums, pouting or disobedience. Follow Adira on her journey from heartbreak in Dubai to what awaits her in Texas. This book has everything; drama, suspense, intrigue, heartache, hope, humor, love, and a young woman's discovery that there is a fine line between pleasure and pain. Awesome Read!!!

Maddox Steele is in the United Arab Emirates as a rancher looking for thoroughbreds for his families ranch, Black Stallion Ranch, with his father, Drake. Yet they are also there as a favor to Hadi Nazar who believes that his family is in great danger and he is proven right.

Adira Nazar is the granddaughter of Hadi and her life explodes in front of her eyes and she loses everyone she loves. Yet now she must put her trust in two Americans whom she has never seen before. Is she safe with them?

Can Maddox and his family keep Adira safe from those that wish her harm and will they find out who is behind everything in time?

This was a great introduction to Black Stallion Ranch and all of the characters!

I thought Maddox was a great character and part way through the book you meet a different side of him when Adira doesn't listen to him! I really liked what his family stood for and how they protected the innocent people from some pretty evil people.

I felt for Adira with everything she lost and how she was suddenly brought to a new place with not a lot of say in what was happening. I can't imagine everything she was going through. I liked that she was tough and was raised to be prepared for the worst just in case.

I loved Jenni and how hippie she was. I loved the close relationship she formed with Adira.

I also really liked the foreshadowing that was done so you knew what the next book would be focusing on with the link to the Russian Sex Trade/Slave industry.

The end was a little intense but I loved how it all turned out and I am looking forward to the next book!

I’m not sure the blurb is reflective of the story which is why I typically read the book blind and then go back and see if the blurb matched my expectations and in this case I think it missed the mark.

So yes, we meet The Steele family, but we don’t really know at the beginning who they are. There were a lot of crumbs provided on their backstory but I still felt like I didn’t know them or how they got together. The main focus was on the relationship between Maddox and Adira, which was expected, but the way their relationship developed didn't ring true. Adira has just experienced an extreme trauma which should have resulted in an extensive hospital stay and a prolonged period for grieving. The trip to Texas didn’t ring true…it seemed more to just have drama….plus how he treated her after just meeting her didn’t work for me. I’m not sure why, I normally am pretty easy going in plot lines as long as things are explained well, so I’m not sure if it was the inconsistencies of having dual authors that I’m picking up on or not. The last part of the book at the ranch didn't seem in sync with the blurb for me.

I did like the characters enough to be interested in the next book, but I hope things are a bit smoother and with more realistic behaviors of the characters.

What a way to start of a story with an explosion and tragedy. I enjoyed the bringing together of Maddox and Adira even with tragedy. Granted this is the beginning of the Black Stallion Trilogy, Maddox will grab you by the heart strings and not let go. This story has it all; hot cowboys, beautiful horses, and Dom/sub relations. But it is worth reading but beware it is only book 1 in a trilogy and I can tell you you'll want more of the Steele family. Maggie and Alta did a great job collaborating to bring this story alive. The back and forth of the characters flows and there is a steadiness of the writing that just keeps you glued. I can't wait till the next installment comes out to see the mission Stryder (Maddox's brother) leads with the little detail at the end......you'll have to read to find out.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book. This is the first book in the Black Stallion Series.
Adira has always been her daddy's princess. She has just graduated from college and he is throwing her a big party with all her close family and friends on thier private yacht. Only she doesn't expect it to end with a big explosion.
Maddox and his dad are in the midde-east on the pretense of buying Arabian stallions. Also to get a closer look at the Nazar family. They have been hired by Hadi to protect his family. Word has spread that someone wants to take out his whole family.
This was a great start this series. I can't wait for more from these Steele brothers.

The first book in the series gives you the background in how the Black Stallion Ranch came to be. It introduces the Steele brothers, their father Drake, and Jennie. It is also about Maddox's mission and how he meets Adira.

The book has aspects of mystery, suspense, murder, and intrigue. You also get a healthy dose of romance, steamy scenes, domestic discipline, and a little BDSM. If any of these aspects are offensive to you, my suggestion would be to pass. Not only on this book, but the other two as well.

Wow - Hard To Put Down

Maddox and his Dad go to a horse auction - Maddox sees Adira riding her horse and immediately has a strange feeling about her only to learn later that there is another reason to be in Dubai. Can Adria let Maddox in, to help her get over her loss? Lots of twist and turns in this book, looking forward to learning more about Stryker and Anson.

I was excited to start Maddox as I was intrigued by the suspense element in the story in combination of a strong bodyguard hero and the woman he's protecting.

In this novel, we meet Maddox Steele who, in conjunction with his father and two brothers, make up The Black Stallions, a security firm which provides protection for individuals who are put in dangerous situations without their knowledge or consent. Enter Adira Nazar, an unwilling victim, who is now in danger from enemies out to destroy her family.

While I enjoyed the novel, I did have some issues with the story. I felt that the overall pacing of the story was mixed. At first I felt the beginning of the story was somewhat slow. The hero and heroine did not have any interaction for a good chunk (the authors were laying the groundwork and necessary details to set up the story) and then BOOM: The heroine's world is turned UPSIDE DOWN and DESTROYED but all of a sudden a BDSM relationship starts hours after a severe emotional trauma. This then quickly escalates into love after a few days. It just seemed a tad unrealistic, rushed and very insta.

All in all, while I had some issues with the story and their relationship, I look forward to seeing how Maggie Ryan and Alta Hensley continue the story of the Steele Brothers in Anson and Stryder.

This is my first book by these authors and I was not disappointed in this one. This is a well written romantic suspense that you will be engrossed in from start to finish.

Maddox and Adira meet at the most devastating, traumatic time for Adira. Her world is thrown into heartbreak and chaos after her whole family is assassinated and Maddox rescues her. He quickly becomes someone she can trust with her safety, although she will challenge him along the way.

Maddox is very alpha from the get go and Adira starts off quite headstrong and slightly rebellious. I was quite disappointed with her actions at certain points where she just seemed to back down way too quickly.

I did find the discipline scenes sometimes a bit much but they did along with Maddox dominate alpha traits.

It did take quite a while to get to the conclusion at the end of the book and I felt that was too rushed.

I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series and seeing what happens with Maddox's brother Stryder

This first book in a new trilogy is an enjoyable start. The characters are likeable and the romance and sex quite enjoyable. I had a couple of problems with the book, though. First, Adira, a supposedly observant Muslim woman (yeah, the rich in Dubai are different, but still), seems to have no problem being around all these unrelated men, with very little in the way of conservative dress, even by rich people's standards. There is no mention of her religion at all, and I think it would have been nice to have at least some acknowledgement of it. The second problem I have is that after they get Adira back to the ranch, everything that brings the bad guys to the ranch happens behind the scenes. There is no evidence of the work they are supposedly doing to get the bad guys. I do appreciate writers who "show" rather than "tell." Nevertheless, it was a fun read and I will read more.

There are two things I love: alpha males and “white knight” tropes. And Maddox feeds into both of those things. If you’d look up the definition of alpha male in the dictionary it wouldn’t surprise me if it said See: Maddox Steele. The man walks talks and breathes alpha maleness. Add in the family business? I was all but melting before I got through the first two chapters. So I was prepared to gush over this book. But there were few things that just keep me away from that 4 or 5 star rating.

First, Adira was a bit of a contradiction for me. She was a Ph.D who came off both extremely naïve and illogical. Then she would become a sexpot at the drop of the dime. Granted I know some of that could be explained by her circumstances and country of birth but it was jarring for me. This kept me from connecting to her as a character. Secondly, there was a spanking scene that just felt off to me.

However, the book is full of suspense and intrigue tempered by the heat and chemistry of Adira and Maddox’s relationship. There is some definite tension between the two of them that leaps off the pages. Plus there’s Jennie. She kept me giggling. I’ll definitely read the rest of the books just to see what else she gets up to to drive the Steele men nuts.

If you’re a fan of extremely dominant men, this may just be up your alley and you should definitely check it out.

Maddox, his father and two brothers run The Black Stallion Ranch, which provides rescue and safety to anyone in need.

Maddox is all alpha and I fell in love with him instantly.

Adira and her family are celebrating her recent graduation and are faced with a devastating tragedy. Maddox and his father are able to save Adira and bring her back to their family ranch. She is sassy and stubborn and constantly goes agains Maddox’s orders.

The chemistry between the two is instant and sizzling. Adira doesn't know what to do with her attraction to Maddox. She has never felt this way towards a man before. Maddox never mixes business with pleasure. Will be be able to withstand Adira’s advances? Will the two be able to develop a relationship or will they crash and burn?

Maddox is filled with alpha males, suspense, and romance. I look forward to reading the upcoming books in the series. I highly recommend this book.
