This book was so funny! I found myself laughing all the way through the book. The dialogue was hilarious and the characters were very well written.

I fell in love with Paul right away and it only got better throughout the book. Kalinda was my girl. She had such a smart mouth and a presence about her. I felt like I knew her. There was a little bit of me in her.

The vivid descriptions of any and everything in this book made it play out in my head like a movie. The tone of the book was so familiar because of all the Southern expressions used in the dialogue. This was a true love story, but the underlying cast of characters had me in stitches.

If I was ever to find myself in desperate need of a husband, I would take a chance on being a modern mail order bride after reading this. Lol

I enjoyed this story so much. I can't wait to read more by this talented author.

This started out so good. Kalinda and Paul were fun together and I didn't mind the insta love. The first problem was some casual racism thrown around for laughs. Next, toilet humor. Then, we got some really uncomfortable moments with George, the most stereotypical gay man I've ever had the misfortune of reading.

Last, her awful, morally bankrupt parents arrived. I couldn't get over George and then I got to this:

***Spoilers, No I Will Not Tag Them. Spoilers, You have been warned***

'Hurley smacked her across the mouth again. “You will not disrespect your mother like that, Mary Jane,” Hurley hissed at her.'

Hurley is her father from afar (her mother is his mistress/ ex maid). Because he watched her/ paid for stuff her whole life he thought it was okay to hit her. Twice.

See, he married someone else and kept her mom so that he could protect them. Isn't he so great? Yes, she was disrespectful to her mother ( but her words were true, you had sex for years with a married man and he paid you...) but really, slapping her? * And Paul just stood there! I honestly couldn't believe what I was reading.

So, George and Hurley and Paul killed this. Ugh, her parents were so awful.

* I know all about southern parents. I don't care. Kalinda should not have just taken it and Paul should have stepped between them.

This books started out so promisingly and I was really enjoying it. But there came a point when I was seriously toying with putting this in the DNF column.

The best part of this book is the heroine. She is a great character with a good background story. I loved the concept of her being the type of person who was constantly reinventing herself, creating her own story and reality and being one of those people withe drive and charisma to make it happen. Even if she'll never really succeed because the person she is running from -- herself -- will always catch up with her. But her backstory is interesting and very well told and unfolds nicely over the course of the book.

The hero is fine, but he really pales in comparison to her.

The bigger issue with the story is that the author has this really good touch at creating a quirky supporting character. The problem though, is that every supporting character is too quirky. And even that would not be a bad thing if the author had some constraint and knew when to make the quirk a small element that merely flavors the character. But that isn't the case, each time the author steps over the line with the supporting characters and they go from being potentially interesting, colorful characters to glaring caricatures. They become one-note cartoons that are defined by wholly their specific identifying trait.

One character has an ass so big that simply walking past a grown man and brushing him with it has the force to knock him off his feet. Another character has a penis so large that everyone can see it outlined down his leg. And yet a third character uses so much botox her face is always expressionless. It would be one thing if these traits were simply mentioned just once or twice as descriptors, but they aren't -- they are used over and over and over again like a bludgeon so that these things become literally all the character is about. They stop being people and are just their most out-there features. I think these were meant to be funny, I found them juvenile rather like toilet humor, really.

By the time we meet George the flamboyantly gay Queen, I couldn't take it anymore. Normally, a character like George probably wouldn't have caused me to raise a brow because in the pantheon of the supporting characters in this book, he is probably the most 3-Dimensional. But cast in addition to all the rest, he just comes off and just another character that is full of tics and is so over-the-top Extra!

I normally love a nicely diverse cast of supporting characters in a book, but I simply could not take any more of these ridiculous cartoons after awhile.

It is a shame too, because I was really enjoying Kalinda and Paul.

The postman most certainly did put in for a mail order bride! I loved this book, and half the time I was howling with laughter at this rambunctious and funny cast of characters. Kahlinda is running from a life that had been meticulously fabricated, and came crashing down. The illegitimate daughter of the man who employed her mother as a maid, was left feeling that she had no place in the world. Paul is the black sheep of his family who envisioned a life for himself, separate from the old money lifestyle his family lives. Wanting to share his dream of making a vacation cabin getaway, and not many available nature loving women, he puts out an ad for a mail order bride.

Starting out a little disjointed, these two morphed into the perfect partnership; relationship and business wise. I love the tender moments of Kahlinda and Paul getting to know each other and verbally expressing what they both needed from the relationship. They complimented each other whole heatedly in the things they were missing from their lives. Paul offered her a safe loving place to make her own, and she offered him a warm loving home to rest his head. And I'm so glad Paul's evil brother got what was coming to him and he couldn't get in between them. But there was one little sore spots for me despite how much I loved this. And it was glaringly obvious of the relationship Kahlinda's mother had with her father. I don't care how much love someone has for another, making them their mistress no matter how good the intentions is just disgusting.

I don't care about the little confession of her father always being there but unnoticed. That's just claiming you love your child but never interacting with or getting to know them outside of second hand information. No wonder poor Kahlinda was so messed up. Building her a school or giving her money does not take away from the fact that she was never acknowledged by him as his child. Just the dirty secret. And her mother went along with it, with no shame! If he can build a school with his money he could make people not make a fuss about his illegitimate child. The man literally hired her mother to clean up behind him, his wife, and other child while sneaking around with her. I don't know what kind of love that is but I want no part of it. Other than that I enjoyed the book.

This was definitely worth the price of admission. It wasn't 100% pitch perfect, but I loved it.

When a story grabs my attention from the very start, and has me rolling in laughter, then that's when I know that I'm onto something good.

Once again, Ms. Gaines has proven herself to be a sure winner.

Giving this one: 4.5 stars.

My least favourite

A rapist gets away with it and is sympathised with. Her dad gets on his high horse even though he was a terrible father who his in the shadows. I didn't connect with the main couple nothing was endearing about this book. But the main thing I hated was that the rapist gets therapy and that's it, he needs to be in jail.

What's NOT to love?! It's an Olivia Gaines story. You can never go wrong with her Modern Mail Order Bride series. It's full of humor, sexy times and life lessons and it's longer than the other books in this series. I consider my $2.99 well-spent.

When great visions enjoin!

Paul Darton was so hated by his older brother Luke, that the older brother resorted to raping and attempting to rape any woman Paul was interested in. Paul refused to sign over his portion of the family land to his father and Luke preferring instead to open up the part of the land he bought with his own money and turned it into a wilderness escape for people in cities to get away and enjoy nature. Kalinda Marsh aka Mary Jane Marshall the product of a beautiful Black woman and a uber rich White man whose house her mother cleaned until his wife learned she was with child. Running from the stigma of her interracial parents she used her masterful storytelling abilities to amass her own wealth by fabricating events and other occurrences garnering herself a large following until she confides in someone she thought was a friend. Said friend outed her causing her to pursue reinventing herself. Her search led her to answer a mail order bride request from Paul where her real adventure with Paul and the people of the small town of Imnaha began. She forged many friendships with the townsfolk who were not use to seeing a Black woman in their town with her cofidence, quick wit and kind spirit. She and Paul fell in love quickly, respected each other and shared the same vision. Luke thinking he could do to Kalinda what he did to Paul's other girlfriend by attempting to rape her but ended up with a gun to his throat and she forced him to let her up at gun point, then Kalinda proceeded to whip his butt as she tried to break what he tried to rape her with. As you can see by the length of this review there was a lot going on in this story. I would suggest you pick up a copy and read all of the things I did not disclose in my review. Great job Ms Gaines, a really great job.

His mail order bride was exactly what the postman ordered.

Mary Jane/ Kalinda Marshall/ Marsh, felt very insecure and ashamed about her life. Every time she had a crisis in her life, she ran. She was ashamed of her mother for more things than she wanted to admit. Her upbringing was a situation she resented. But what she did not know was that her father, Hurley Lancaster loved her and took care of her secretly and protected she and her mother Annie, the best way he could in the racist south. The last time Kalinda had a crisis in her life, she ran again, straight to Paul Darton as a mail order bride.

Paul had family problems of his own. He refused to be a puppet to his father and their family business by being his own man. His parents were too busy in their own lives to focus on their sons. Luke was a mirror image of his father but much worst. Paul moved hours away to pursue his own dreams. His life was lonely in the middle of God's pristine country and desired a wife to live and share his dream. He found that wife in Kalinda. They hit it off immediately and fell totally in love with each other.

I loved the way Olivia writes. This was a fun love story to read. The comic relief had me laughing my head off, especially when talking about QT's big old butt. George, Paul's cousin was just as funny as he could be. I really enjoyed the sexual teasing banter between Kalinda and Paul. They were so hot for each other.

Great job Ms Gaines!

😁😂 " Kahuna, Kahlua... "😄😀

Wow, what an incredible, wonderful bit of storytelling. I am amazed how Gaines meshed Kalinda & Paul into such a adorable and believable couple.
The myriad of characters from both sets of parents to the town's residents are so vivid and interesting I was enthralled from start to finish.
I was very skeptical that the H & H could become a true couple, but the author skillfully wove that thought right out of my head. The way she had Kalinda to deal with all of her insecurities, selfdoubts and denials; the way Hurley and Annie navigated through life maintaining a forbidden love while treading through a minefield of rascism and familial obligation and duty; how the sins of the father passed down from generation to generation to shape a sick creature named Luke.....all that and more had me hooked like a fish and I couldn't stop reading til the end.
At different times the story is quaint, informative, bold, raunchy, angering, scandalous and gut bustingly funny but never boring.
Hitch a ride people and enjoy! 😉

Marvelous

This is a amazing story with interesting characters that are captivating with a relationship that is entertaining and full of humor and drama. The couple has a sizzling passion that burn the pages. This is one of my favorite series from this author's work and I can say that I enjoyed this story the author's writing is great However the heroine will sometimes be unbelievable with her behavior. Although there is lots of humour that it's off the chart even though they only just recently met. it's will bring tears to your eyes, it's so emotional. The characters are captivating There were quite a few things that will be a great reading experience with this book, and it's absolutely enjoyable to read after all.

Kalinda Marsh was a master at reinventing herself, and when Paul Darton came with his offer she was happy to jump on. But sometimes you can’t go forward without going back a bit.

I think I’ve just come to love Olivia Gaines’ ability to create a good story. There’s nothing truly formulaic about these books. Gaines tells the story she sets out to tell, but it’s a different story every time.

I will say that reading Oregon Trails right after Wyoming Nights can be a bit confusing because they're both essentially about marrying men that basically live in national parks. However, Gaines makes enough of a distinction between the two stories that it's not too terrible.

I would recommend this story to anyone who likes being able to start over and finding new adventures. I thought it was a great read.

Enjoyable read.

I love this story, it's full of laughter, irony, and self confidence building truths. Mary Jane (Kalinda), and Paul felt that they were not enough all of their lives when I'm fact they were more than hoped for. I love this series and this book especially. Ms. Gaines has quickly be one one of my most favorite and re-read go to authors. She delivers quality work with every endeavor, and I look forward to continuing on this journey with her happily.

Loved This Book

I loved this couple Paul and Kalinda/Kahlua/Kapana/Kapuka, whatever were hilarious in the way they dealt with their family, their new business venture and their "Town of Misfit Toys."
QT and her derriere was some of the funniest parts of the book.
Paul was quietly one of the sexiest lead characters in these books. Loved Cousin George's Fabulous behind as well.
Definitely a great read, with Sexy Time, Mystery, Suspense and tons of Humor.

The series has been good….

…I’ve been really enjoying these stories.
Olivia Gaines writing is hilarious. I also really enjoy how the stories pull you in but there’s no needless drama to mess up the story. I could see in this book, issues were brewing but the author introduced them and squashed them so quickly… not dragging out drama for needless page after page. I love these love stories!

Loved it!! Mail Order Brides is so much fun to read. They are filled with so much love and laughter, I wish they had sequels. I was happy for Kalinda to finally get her happiness and her man. I hope Luke turned out to be a better person. I loved all the characters because they brought so much more to the table. Loved George to pieces. Thank you Olivia Gaines! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Postman Paul 😍

I need a Paul in my life! No, seriously, it had the angst, family drama, and HEA that I live for in a story. While this is a work of fiction, it did hurt a little to know that Kalinda felt ashamed of her mother's skin tone. Being from the south, I can relate due to certain family members who have the same mindset.

I was hoping for an epilouge, I really wanted them to have the 3 kids like 5 years later.

Reliable quirky characters and weird families

I enjoy the quirky characters in Ms Gaines' books though the writing isn't amazing, the wild stories and oddball characters keep me engaged. The couple in this book did not seem to have amazing chemistry though the author tried to convey an attraction - they did however have a similar vision and were supportive of each other - it's not my favorite but it was interesting.

Five Stars ...but

I am giving it 4 stars because of editing. There were so many errors, but the storyline was so good. I enjoyed reading Kalinda and Paul's story. Both had family issues that they needed to overcome. I love Olivia's books and must say I was very surprised at the editing of this one.

Ok

How can I put this into words. The story ended with no clue how there life would last.

This is a story about to mixed up families. Can I say problems. Crazy brother, father who never had time for his sons and mother who was crazy.

Now the h . She was always and outcast due to her mother. The h was known as the town whore daughter.

Great book plus funny

This book was so good & so funny. I enjoyed reading every page. Both families were hilarious. Kalinda and Paul marriage was different yet it worked for them. I loved that fact that they made it work and Kalinda supported his dreams. A well worth the read book!

The characters are funny, especially QT with her 76' behind!

You should write a follow-up story about the town, its characters, Paul & Kalinda, George &. Buster, everyone else! I laugh so much. The only character that should be thrown in jail is Luke: I don't see any redeeming qualities on the man.

The Butt!!!!!!

It was a great story, It had my mind trying to imagine Kalinda and Paul’s life especially with the meals Paul had to eat before Kalinda came along. Oregon not sure I could do what they did. You had my laughing hard when my face hurts already when people are talking about the butt of QT and some of the other towns folk.

Mail Order Brides...

Is this really a thing??? If so, where do I sign up.

Paul and MJ/Kalinda built an awesome life for themselves. Former misfits turned the pages on their former selves and became the toast of their small world.

I've now read quite a few of the MOB books, this is added to my favorites list along with the Neary brother's.

Such promise and a great start. I overlooked overlooked overlooked, but then, the colorism and self-hatred. It was too much. Light skin and Dark skin are what she named her cats.

I loved all of the "mail-order bride" stories. I should have quit while ahead. No, I had to read two too many. This is the last one.

Hilariously Great

I kept laughing out loud and snickering..I was outraged, mad, happy and proud. These are signs of reading a well written story. I felt invested in everyone and I sincerely hope we get backstorys and new stories about the other characters in Kalinda and Paul's cast of family and friends.

Another good one

Olivia Gaines has done it again. Blending a good love story with humor and drama. Loved how a woman can tell off someone without getting "all hood". You gotta love Kalinda or Mary jane. Which ever name you use it's still the same and how she found love with Paul. Came to an understanding about her mother and father relationship. Loved it

amazing read

I enjoyed this book so much. It was colorful, amusing, exciting, sexy and adventurous. The story moved along quickly, the dialogue was so inclusive and engaging. It was great getting to know all the characters. The multiple storyline did not confuse me at all. In fact, it made the story more interesting. It’s a great book.
