Smile Back is a series of six-word stories that follows a Muslim girl's journey. It covers the struggles of wearing the headscarf to loving nature. There is a battle between negative space and finding positivity. She is learning to love herself.
Fida Islaih is a self published poet and freelance poetry editor. Islaih writes about mental health and cultural experiences. She helps other poets polish their poetry books for self publishing. Aside from her work, she enjoys calligraphy and jigsaw puzzles.
These poems may only be six words each but they show the strength and enthusiasm of the author and are full of life insights. I will be reading them again and perhaps adding some quotes from this book to my bullet journal so they can continue to encourage me.
