A rock band. A reality show. The opportunity of a lifetime.
As the front man for The Void, lead singer Dane Archer has yet to achieve the success he craves. He hopes that will change when he’s approached about filming a reality show called House of Archer. All he and the band have to do is get some juicy footage while on their upcoming tour.
The problem? Archer’s life is a snoozefest. His parents are happily married, he’s never done drugs or gotten arrested, and he doesn’t get into fights with his band mates. He knows the show will fizzle and die before it ever hits the air, taking his dreams of worldwide fame along with it.
Unless...
If Archer can convince his best friend Lily to be on the show, he’s sure they’ll get all the compelling footage they need. Her life is filled with drama. Hell, she’s practically a reality show in her own right.
Archer’s willing to do whatever it takes to get Lily on board, even if it means charming her into being more than just friends. But when he finds himself falling for her, his seemingly simple plan gets complicated. Soon the line between reality and Reality TV begins to blur, leaving him wondering if achieving his dreams is worth all it might cost him.

Oh the angst!!! I love a good sexy rockstar book and I also love friends to lovers so this is a win/win for me. Dane and Lily become friends in the beginning of the book in the cutest way and stay best friends for years to come. Present day, Lily decides to try to get her writing career going and joins Dane and his band on tour. They are still close as ever but not romantically because they had never looked at each other in that way. It's been a while since they had seen each other so Dane is shocked when he sees Lily at a club and starts looking at her in a new way. Since you are following a band on tour you of course have a ton of characters brought into the story line and occasionally get glimpses of their POV and it totally works.
I've been a fan of Raine Thomas every since I found her Daughter's of Saraqael Trilogy! So I am always very excited when a new Raine Thomas book arrives! Imperfect Harmony is the first of what I know will be an exciting series!
The story follows Dane Archer the lead singer for a band that receives an opportunity which allows his band to gain more success, a reality TV show. The Producer wants all the drama and excitement Dane can bring in order to capture audience attention. But Dane believes the only way to achieve that goal is to bring his best friend Lily, who's life is mostly drama into the show as his girlfriend! Things take a strange twists when real feelings enter the mix!
I loved, loved, this book! I enjoyed the vast array of characters, and the hustle and bustle of behind the scenes of reality television! I enjoyed seeing the dynamics of Dane and Lily's relationship as they make their journey to discovering how right they were for one another! Although there were some bumps and challenges on their journey giving the reader an awesome read!
Dane may not have started off with the best intentions, although he became yet again one of my fave book boyfriends! (Thank-you Ms. Thomas!) lol, and I loved the fantastic Lily who lives life full-speed ahead!
I look forward to more in this series! I also look forward to more works by the very talented Raine Thomas! I recommend for all those interested in a fun, well-written, full of well defined characters and lot's of excitement than you should pick up Imperfect Harmony!
The ins and outs of music industry, what actually goes on behind the scenes of a reality tv show, a friends to more story, double crossing, betrayals, and romance…this story had it all. Once again Ms. Thomas has managed to weave several story lines into one book and given the reader a variety of characters to love and to hate. This is a very good beginning to a series I know will capture many readers’ imaginations.
Lily and Dane (Archer) are the best of friends and have had each others’ backs for many years. As they begin the journey of spending several months together while Dane’s band is on tour and filming a reality tv show, their friendship is tested by romantic feelings that neither had anticipated. The complications of being on the road and of the producer’s insistence that there be drama for the show adds unnecessary stress to their fledgling relationship and angst to the overall story.
Lily is a strong, sassy character who’s trying to achieve her dreams. She’s had a rough life with a drama-filled family but she’s found her happy place with her friends and with Dane. However, that doesn’t stop her family from trying to bring her down. Dane is a successful musician who’s trying to take his band to the next level of success through participation in the show. And, against his own conscience, he considers starting a relationship with his friend in order to add the element of drama and romance the show needs. I must admit that his initial thoughts about going into a relationship for the sake of the show made me like him a little less than I would have – it affected his “swoonyness” in my eyes. Of course, he actually discovers that his feeling are very much real and he treats Lily with love and respect, but his original thoughts did impacte my love for him…sad because I wanted to love him unconditionally!
I did, however, love the secondary characters in this story and I think you will too. Beware, however, that there are a lot of them…bands, managers, friends, roadies, and producers to keep track of. But, once you’ve figured it all out, you’ll definitely find a great variety…characters to embrace and characters to dislike. They’re all well developed and their interactions and banter are fun to read. And each one of them can and should get their own story.
Overall, this is a fun, quick read and a great first book. Looking forward to whatever Ms. Thomas has up her sleeve next (psssst….I hope it’s Keith’s story!
Here I was, minding my own business on Instagram, when this beauty of a cover floated across my feed. When I see who the author was, I was intrigued to know more about it. So I tracked Thomas down on facebook and saw what this amazing book was about. I wanted this book. I needed this book. I knew I would love this book.
And I did.
Thomas sent me an advanced copy and I casually told her it would probably be a little bit before I could get to it. But I just wanted to sneak a peek at the first chapter. Then before I knew it, I was 8 chapters in on the first night. Well, I was too far in to turn back now. So finished it I did. And loved it. Man, did I love it.
Here is the deal. Archer and Lily have been friends from the moment he struck out on his own in the music world. 8 years later he invites her on the road with him during his summer tour and the filming of his new reality show. What neither one was expecting was the feelings that followed them as the tour began.
I absolutely loved the romance. I loved the chemistry between Archer and Lily, even when it was just a friendship. You could tell that they both adored one another in so many ways and on so many levels. But as the relationship turned to stronger, more intimate feelings, you could tell that this is what should have been happening all along for them. A fantastic, beautiful duo.
I enjoyed the story and the ups and downs of the tour and show. I enjoyed how the author put the reader right into it all and it came off real and convincing. At least it did for me; I felt it. The story came to life and kept my attention. Again, this had a lot to do with the 2 main characters. Their story held me captive.
Wonderful read. Ingenious storyline. Fascinating characters. Intriguing romance. IMPERFECT HARMONY delivered it all. 5 Music To My Ears Stars!
I truly enjoyed reading Imperfect Harmony. It was a great story with an interesting twist on the normal "rocker romance." Best friends forever Archer realizes almost to late his feelings for the woman that has been at his side for most of his life and to top it all off he is participating in a reality TV show about him and she doesn't like being in the lime light.
I think throughout the majority of book I enjoyed the journey Ms. Thomas was taking me on just waiting for the major conflict to happen and see where she would lead me to. While I love where I went I was a tad bit frustrated how it ended, not because it was bad but because it was over. I want to read more, I want to find out what else happens and see into the lives of the other members of the band. Basically I just want more!
My very first read from this author was Return of the Ascendant (The Ascendant Series, book 1). From that very first book on, I was hooked with this author and her excellent writing. Although I am a lover of all things paranormal, Raine has managed to catch me in all her genre's. Imperfect Harmony is yet another genre that has all the markings of a great story. Her writing is so right on target that I just can't put the book down until I have finished it. For me, and also for this author, this is a new genre that is as much a page turner as my very first read. No matter what she chooses to write, it is always something I will get. In my opinion, this author cannot write anything wrong.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review and here's my honesty.......I freaking LOVED this book! Right up until the very end when I realized it was the first in a series and I was going to have to wait for more. GAH! Not a fan of waiting. I am, however, a fan of sexy guitar players ( I married one!) and I adore genuine friendships between characters of the opposite sex. This story delves into the kind of friendship that we all crave. Where you know each others history and have mad love for one another. In this perfect book world that friend love transfers into a romantic love and we all get to go along for the ride.
Emotional and fun, this book made me cry for the first time in a long time. Loved it! A lot of emotional ups and downs and learning what's truly important in life.
Imperfect Harmony is the first book that I have read by Raine Thomas. I love finding a new author for myself! I will definitely be reading more of her work. She is a talented author. This book is wonderful; a great start to the House of Archer series. It's so much fun! The perfect friends to lovers book.
Take one rock star on tour with his band and filming a reality tv show. Throw in his former band (who he left on bad terms) as one of the openers for the tour. And finally add in his best friend and her two best friends for the summer tour. Stir it all together and you have the ingredients for a most entertaining book.
Archer (Dane) is the lead singer for the band The Void. Lily is his best friend. I love every single thing about these two; how they met, their history; their friendship during their teen years forming the band, and especially their present day relationship. Archer is a great character. His sweetness, thoughtfulness, passion, vulnerability, jealousy, insecurity, even stupidity once he realizes his feelings for Lily show that love is the great equalizer. Even a world-famous, sex-symbol rock star can be brought to his knees for love. And Lily is AWESOME! She's catches you off guard. It takes you a second to realize how smart, sweet, kind, fierce, and lovely she is. Nothing escapes her. She seems to see the world with a unique, clever view. She loves completely, especially for a damaged soul. Watching her grow in confidence and start taking chances was so rewarding. I love this girl.
The rest of the cast is great too. Lily's friends Aria and Sydney, The other Void members, Noelle, Xander, Keith, Sage, their manager Christopher, and bodyguards Trey and Barney are all perfect additions to layer the story and dialogue. Conflicts and drama came from Lily's awful mom and sisters, Jonathan, Nikki, and Brandon of Suddenly Something. Then we have the true enemies with Elijah, producer of the reality show and Regina, Sudddenly Something's manager. There's so much story here; several intersecting storylines. It's so detailed, so multi-layered; each character is defined and has a role of some importance. It all seems so natural; it's easy to get caught up in this book.
This book was full of emotions. Dane and Lily realizing that their friendship is more that they realized are so full of hope, that 'new love' joy, fear, lust. There are relationships starting to fail, jealousy over relationships or success. I can't wait for the next book to see the meltdown of one couple and the start (hopefully) of another. More than anything I want to see Lily silence her family, take control of Elijah, take down Regina, and get her HEA with her best friend. I will be starting Unsteady Rhythm, book 2 as son as possible!
I received this eARC novel from Red Coat Publishing. This is my honest review.
Lily's life has been a difficult one. Problems with her family have forced her to live with her Uncle Ray, which has actually been a good thing for Lily. It's how she was able to meet Dane Archer 8 years ago and become his best friend.
THE Archer - first movie star, then famous singer for The Void. Without Lily there with him, Archer would never had gotten where he is today. His friendship with Lily means everything to him, and he would do whatever it takes to keep her happy and safe.
But when he starts a reality TV show to hike up his ratings for his band, he knows that Lily won't want to be in the spotlight. Because of her terrible history with her family, Lily's life is made for a reality TV show.
Once Lily and Archer start to see each other in a different light than friends, Lily is put into a corner and told that she needs to be recorded to be on the show.
But will the spotlight on her life be too much for Lily? Will it ruin an 8 year friendship because of all of the lies and secrets?
This was a good book. I enjoyed the storyline and the drama that occurred throughout the novel. I did find that it was a little slow at times, which made it hard for me to want to keep reading, but then something good would happen that would draw me back into the story.
I do have to say that the relationship between Lily and Archer didn't really do it for me... It was too strained and drawn out. I like heat and passion, and it kind of felt dull and recited too much for me to really feel the connection between Lily and Archer. Which is a real bummer.
But the ending was very intriguing, so I'm very excited that I have the second book to dive right in and see how things are going to play out. I'm hoping that I will be able to connect better with the second novel since I know a little bit of the history now. I found that this book didn't really give Archer and Lily's past information very well - made the reader wonder how things happened and why they are the way they are, and then they just dumped all of that information in one paragraph with factual information, rather than a story of sorts.
I always love me a good rock star romance, so I'm hoping that this series will get better for me! :)
Thank you to Raine Thomas for a copy of this; I had really looked forward to digging into it!
This is pretty much a friends to lovers story. Lily had first met Archer (or Dane as he's more intimately known to her) 8 years ago and they have been best friends ever since.
Now Dane is very successful as the front man for his band The Void, but in order to gain international fame, they've signed up to a reality show called the House of Archer. At the same time, they're kicking off their tour and Lily's tagging along for the ride. Lily's an aspiring writer and this is the perfect opportunity for her to gather great content and meet some celebrities.
Lily had been in a relationship with someone she met at college, while Dane had never been in any serious relationships. Suddenly they realised their love for each other while on tour and things got hot and steamy.
There were also conflicts with members of another band, Suddenly Something, which was where Dane used to be a member of. Reality shows love conflicts so the TV producer quickly ate it up.
Through it all, Lily and Dane's relationship got tested but it also got stronger. I can't wait to read what happens next!
(I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book)
Raine Thomas is amazing! This was my first time reading any of her novels, so I wasn't sure what to expect. It was very hard to put this book down when I had to take care of real life responsibilities and I stayed up way too late, but it was worth it. Raine is a master at getting her readers to feel what the characters feel, and while I feel like some romance novels take the conflict too far, she kept it in the realm of believable. Of course, my heart was still racing every time there was a misunderstanding between the main characters, but that's just an indication of fantastic writing. While this is the first book of a series, there's no major cliffhanger, but you'll want to start reading the next book in the series immediately. I may have already started it. ;)
I was thrown when reading the prologue, it seemed odd everyone was so young, only 16, especially the guys in the band. I hoped that it didn't end up they were older and there was going to be an illicit relationship between Dane and Lily. I was glad that didn't happen.
I got why Dane was mad about being marginalized in the band, was glad that Lily talked him into taking a chance. With how he felt when he left I didn't get why he would agree to tour with his old band, that spelled drama to me, why would you want to go there.
I can't really explain why I didn't like this one, just that I didn't, wasn't interested enough to keep reading to see what drama would happen on tour or to see a romance blossom between Dane and Lily. In the end, this one just wasn't for me.
I absolutely fell in love with everything about this bokk, and as with everything Raine Thomas writes, it left me begging for more! Filled with romance, sexual tension, mystery, betrayal and an insight into the rock world, I found myself immersed in the character's lives and feeling every emotion with along with them. It captivated me from the minite Dane met Lily, to the final scene, and I can't recommend this book enough! Get on it now as book #2 comes out 22nd of May!!!!
Lily and Dane are lifelong friends that come from completely different backgrounds. Lily decides to travel with Dane and his band mates across the country. Nikki and Keith are also another pair that are trying to give the relationship a chance. Dane decides to sign a contract so they are followed by plenty of cameras and microphones for the House of Archer show that will feature the band. Dane and his band are touring with his previous band that causes some tension.
Raine is one of my favorite authors and I really loved this book. I enjoyed how she connected and unique group of people and entwined their stories in to one. Lots of laughs & swoon worthy moments.
Who doesn't want to read about the background of a reality show rockstar? This one is much more down to earth than most probably are but still highly entertaining
This book takes you on a ride. It gives you a behind the scenes look at the music world, at competing bands, and at a reality tv show. It has romance and mystery and betrayal. You won't know what to expect from one page to the next and that's what I've come to love about Ms. Thomas' writing. She gives us several story line here...and characters you'll love as well as those you'll love to hate. Overall, this was a great start to a new series!!
*Note: This book was provided to The Book Hookup by the author but that did not in any way influence this review!
