On his way to California, watchmaker Deacon Fletcher, stops at his grandmother's ranch in Montana. En route, his trip hits one snag after another, each threatening to derail his plan to begin a lucrative job in San Francisco. Further complicating matters is the pretty young widow who lives nearby.
After four years, Molly Goode still grieves the loss of her husband. Raising a young daughter, preparing and selling preserves, and helping her father, leave little time for courting, which suits her just fine—until a handsome watchmaker turns her head.
As Deacon spends time in Morgan’s Crossing, he becomes more involved in the ranch, along with Molly and her daughter. Soon his career goals are challenged and his character tested. As Molly warms toward him, can he convince her that Cupid's arrow can strike more than once?

This interesting romance introduced some interesting characters which kept me engaged in the story as the romance developed and Deacon had to decide whether to follow his original plan or yield to the wishes of others. One cute little girl kept things interesting. I enjoyed the confrontation revolving around Deacon's brother, not to mention Molly's father discovery. A good read.
The west was being settled, people moving west, and land developed. This story tells of the many dangers and opportunities happening during those years. Linnea Alexis has a deft hand at writing of Montana and the early years. A must for those seeking new authors and westerns.
Deacon may want to follow his dream of watch repair but all that changed when he met Molly and a little girl named Eva. This is a nice story and has been a wonderful Sunday afternoon read. Thanks Ms. Holland for introducing me to this author.
Deacon is on his way to California to a very prominent job. When he gets a message to visit his grandmother, he does not realize how life changing the visit can be.He is shocked by the news his Grandmother is giving him the ranch. Now he has to decide if wealth is more important than happiness with a beautiful woman hand her daughter. He also has a target on his back because his twin brother is in trouble with the law.
I have to ay I love this cover. The Watchmaker and the Widow is a beautiful story. There is lots of romance with the pent up feelings of her and Deacon, Deacons' confusion about the ranch and his big job waiting for him, turns and lots of action once the story gets to the plot where his brother's actions catch up wth deacon.I loved all the characters, especially Deacon's grandmother and Eva, Molly's daughter. I also liked all the twists close to the end.
I did feel that some of the descriptions was a little overboard and slowed the story down. In some places, nearly every movement is described too many times. I also was left ith questions about Daniel. Maybe we are getting his story soon? That would be awesome!
If you like stories set in the 1880's, the old west, watchmakers, widows, cute kids, meddling grandmothers and an allover sweet romance, this is for you!
Taking a break from my usual contemporary reading, I decided to try, Linnea Alexis' book, Montana Sky: The Watchmaker and the Widow. Her historical romance takes place in 1888. Watchmaker, Deacon Fletcher, leaves Minnesota to go visit his grandmother in Morgan's Crossing. He only plans to stay for a short visit and then head to California for a job he is excited about. But things don't end up going as planned. Since his twin brother, Daniel, has men looking for him, Deacon is always watching his back. He arrives safely at his grandmother's ranch, but then he is hit with a series of "obstacles" that make him question what he really wants to do. Meeting Molly (a young widow) and her seven year old daughter Eva, also adds to his confusion. I enjoyed taking a look back in history. Alexis' writing makes it easy to visualize everything that is happening. Her main characters are likable and easy to root for. This book was and enjoyable read.
This is a cozy romantic western featuring a watchmaker who happens to be a twin. His brother has found himself on the wrong side of the law, and our hero has to deal with mistaken identity issues. He winds up spending time on his grandmother's ranch in Morgan's Crossing where he falls for a neighboring widow. Will he stay and put down roots, or follow his dreams to San Francisco?
I loved that the hero in The Watchmaker and the Widow wasn't the traditional cowboy type. He didn't know all about ranching, but was strong enough to be comfortable learning what he didn't know. Very refreshing. I loved the way the heroine cared so much for her family. Her sacrificial love encouraged others. Nicely done.
