Rate this book
Kayla Sutton has finally submitted.

And now that Gage has his wife firmly under his control again, he won’t stop until he’s extracted every last independent drop from her being.

As each day passes, she learns new ways to accept his dominion. After all, she has a lot to atone for. Flirting with disaster with her ex-lover turned brother-in-law might be forgivable, but it’s not so easily forgotten.

And neither are skeletons. If there’s one thing Kayla has learned it’s that skeletons don’t just come out of the closet; they bust through with the power of a locomotive, mindless of the destruction they cause.

For the sake of her sanity, Kayla must make a tough decision, even if it means leaving everything behind.

I'm thinking that this might very well be the conclusion to the series. Not sure. Although I was still quite irritated, I really quite enjoyed what I've read so far. Gemma James is one hell of a writer and I'm surprised by how much emotion she was able to pull out of me. Granted, most of it was anger, but who cares right?! The fact that I felt so strongly is just a testament to how invested I was in Gage and Kayla's story. Her writing was so on point that every time Gage punished Kayla, I felt it.

Her poor bum!

My disappointments remained the same. Nothing new. To find out what they are because I would hate to repeat myself for those who already know, read the following reviews:
The Devil's Kiss (Book 1)
The Devil's Claim (Book 2)
The Devil's Wife (Book 3)

Other than sorely missing out on Gage's POV, I thought this was not only an awesome series but also a great introduction to this author.

Amazingly Ms. James turns the heat up even more in this one. I thought it was as hot and dark as it could get. Boy was I wrong!

At the beginning, before you read word one of the story, we are greeted with this,

'Includes explicit and disturbing subject matter that may offend some readers.'

What it should say is,

"Includes explicit and disturbing subject matter that Will offend and Freak out Most readers!"

Even I have moments of 'EEk! with this series. Lmbo
Those 'EEK! moments are some of my favorite moments!

In this one Kayla finds out she is pregnant with Gage's child. This is something they both wanted but thought they couldn't have. So it should have been happy times, right? Nope.

Kayla once again shows her inability to control her 'Stupid' moments. You would think it would be Gage who causes problems. After all, he is a sadist through and through, and Kayla is his. In his mind he owns every part of her. Every breath, thought, etc.

Safe & sane Gage is NOT.

So what does Kayla do, something she KNOWS will screw with his & her heads.
Through this entire scene (which Gage is not in) I kept thinking, NO! You are not going there!!
But, yep, she does. And she does it knowing she is screwing up.
No wonder Gage tries to keep her every moment under his control.

Not only does the Down-&-Dirty scenes get kicked up to High Propane Super Explosive Hot,
but the suspense gets kicked up a few notches too.

I would have given this one 5 stars, but I found a couple of typos and there was one part towards the end that just seemed out of place for me. I doubt other readers would find that to be the case for them.
For me, it didn't sit right.
The way it was written in felt like a last minute thought to either up the drama or lead to a spin off series.

Note to all; Even though I have each book separately, I also have the 'The Devil's Kiss Series Boxed Set'.
All the stories are exactly the same in the set.

However, at the end of the bundle is 4 extra little stories about Gage & Kayla.
Three of them are Gage's POV. So, if you see it on sale you may want to invest in it. Just FYI.

Drama to the left. Drama to the doggone right. This story is on the fast track for soap opera status! There's nothing worse than a bitter, scorned, and rejected woman!

Gage is definitely the man! Apparently dude is not only talented in the boardroom but his skills in the bedroom are so DELISH, women are forgetting their meds and are behaving with irrational and violent tendencies! Katherine is pure EVIL and what she reveals to Gage and Kayla made me want to jump in the story and give her a good ole fashion South Carolina beat down! No worries! Karma is a beautiful thing and her payback is BEAUTIFUL!

So jump on the Devil's train and buckle up for some series BSDM with heavy emphasis on anal play, crazy whipped women who can't accept rejection, and drama so juicy you will think you're watching a tv drama!

Five stars!

Throughout this series, I've just had to come to terms that I like Gage. He's an asshole. He's not a nice guy, but I can't help it. I like him.

In The Devil's Spawn, Kayla has recovered from her momentary lapse in judgement. She lived through his punishment, but these two still haven't moved past all of their doubts.

For Kayla, it's the ex that won't go away - the lack of disclosure of Gabe's full past - that leaves doubt. For Gabe, he loves her - in the only way he knows how - but still hasn't let go of the fact that she betrayed him.

In TDS, we watch as these two dysfunctional characters come to terms with their feelings, facing the mistakes of their past - moving forward in their lives to the next chapter. Kayla accepting that as much as she hates Gabe, she loves him just as deeply.

There is nothing romantic about this series, but that doesn't mean that there isn't a romance buried within it's pages.

2.5 stars ⭐️

There’s a chapter in this book called “OMG Again”, and that pretty much sums up my feelings for this book. Same shit, different pile! More OM drama. More OW drama. More needless angst. More of the same internal monologue. At least there was no cheating in this one.

There were some inventive sex scenes that were good though, and there was a small twist at the end that I didn’t see coming, which is why I’m giving this book 2.5 stars, instead of the 2 stars I gave the last one.

This a recview for the whole series. Why and How in the hell did I get sucked into Gage and Kayla's story? I spent five wasted hours reading the four books. I read the first cover to cover, then was so disgusted with Gage and Kayla's BS I skimed the last four books. Kayla is a pussy and Gage is absolutely disgusting. If you do read this, you MUST suspend reality. COMPETELY. There are plot lines that are never tied up too. But I will say something kept me reading this even though I wanted to throw up, literally, for the way Gage treats Kayla. Spoiler ahead: he keeps her in a damn cage during the day for MONTHS! He honestly made my stomach turn.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The Devil's Spawn is the fourth book in Gemma James The Devils Kiss Series. You must read the first three books in this series or your going to be so lost.

Kayla has finally submitted. Since Gage now has his wife under control there is no way he is stopping until he has every last independent bone in her body broken. Kayla all the while is learning new ways to accept Gage's domination. She's messed up so many times and just wants it to be forgotten. But, there are skeletons getting ready to jump right out of the closet. Ones that could destroy Gage and Kayla. Leaving Kayla with a huge decision. Should she run or stay put.

Oh goodness Gage...Gage...Gage...Your just not my favorite guy. Never will be and that is ok. Not every character can be all fluff and sweetness. Gage can certainly never be accused of having a sweet bone in his body. I just don't believe his is capable of it. But Kayla loves him. How they got together was unconventional to say the last and his need to control every aspect of her life drives me to the brink. Some punishments disturbed me deeply. The need to control is so great in Gage it consumes him. While he has his, and I do mean this in a do not expect a miracle sense, moments of showing compassion, he's equally as unrelenting in his punishments. He's a great dad to Kayla's daughter . Always has been. So there's something.

With that said this is a book about secrets. Omissions. Getting caught with your hand in the cookie jar and it causes a mess and a serious case of what could possible be the greatest revenge ever. I may not understand or can't comprehend parts of the relationship between Kayla and Gage, especially when they get to extreme, there is no doubt they are in love. I have no doubt he worshipped the ground she walks on and would go through hell and back to get to Kayla. Kayla would practically give up her life for Gage and you have to respect and appreciate a love like that.

Filled with secrets, revenge, destruction, and of course some punishment, The Devil's Spawn is a really good book. Fans of the series are going to love it. If your like me and reading all four books together your going to lay one down, write your review, and pick the next up right away. I've enjoyed the entire series so very much. .

Not me actually managing to finish a series?? Like what has happened to me.

Funny how my rating has only dropped after each book lol. I certainly wouldn't like to read abt cheating between the mcs in literally the last book wtf. Literally every chapter was filled w sex scenes and little plot like I've been expecting sth different since book 2 hello?? Also, the fact that the 4 yr old kid had more freedom than the h, Kayla is absolutely crazy.

Despite all that, I've finished it and skimmed only a ittle so that should count for something i guess.

“Why do girls like boys, Mom?” She’d stopped calling me “Mommy” at the start of first grade, because apparently, Leah said it was a baby thing to do.
“That’s a good question.” Why did we put up with men? We not only liked them, but we fucking loved them—even when they left our asses tender from obscene punishments. It was insanity.

The Devil's Kiss Series Bundle by Gemma James

The Boxset included:
The Devil's Kiss
The Devil's Claim
The Devil's Wife
The Devil's Spawn

Kayla will do anything to save her daughter Eve. Kayla is desperate to get her hands on the money for Eve's treatment no matter what the cost, When she steals the money from her boss, Gage Channing, she never saw the deal he would offer to keep her out of jail. He would keep paying Eve's medical bills and she was to become his slave. Agreeing, Kayla never expected just what she was getting herself into.

This was a great read in my opinion, it is a very dark read with heavy and harrowing BDSM scenes. But be warned it deals with consensual and sometimes non consensual acts so this is not for the faint hearted. Gage Channing makes Christian Grey look like a pussy-cat.

I'm a big fan of Dark Erotica, and this didn't disappoint, it was my first Gemma James read but it won't be my last. There are tender moments, but it is very gritty, raw and emotional and harrowing. The perfect read for Dark lovers but don't say I didn't warn you.

I haven't been so enraptured by a story this much in so long. Once I started along with Kayla on her journey to loving a man like Gage, I couldn't stop. Forgoing sleep and having been awake for more than 24 hours I feel a sense of completeness now.

The development of such a complex relationship between such captivating characters was so emotional and unforgettable. I felt everything on the emotional spectrum and fell in love with them both. Gage was truly a character I loved and hated. He was definitely a character that required patience and deep understanding. Though his love for Kayla was beyond obsessive and conditional it was also extremely devotional. Kayla was his perfect mate because no matter what he put her through she was the only one that understood him and was strong enough to put up with everything her put her through and that strength causes him to grow. Though the changes were minute, they were changes that had big impacts on their relationship and not something anyone else could have made happen.

From The Devil's Kiss to The Devil's Spawn the changes in Kayla and Gage were monumental on so many levels and I couldn't help but feel all of their pain, anguish, love and utter devotion. Gah! I couldn't put these down until I read the whole series. It's was just THAT good! What a great way to start off my new year.

I honestly dont think I could ever get tired of reading about Gage and Kayla!!! This was the perfect little story of what is happening in their lives.
Katherine of course is the evil baby momma and will stop at nothing to try to break Gage and Kayla's marriage. But her stories sound so convincing...I would fall for them to if I had an ex in my life spewing the tales she tells.
The question is though, has Kayla messed up enough in the marriage... that she no longer can stay with Gage even after what she finds out?
Gage is 100% my way or no way kind of man...can he believe what Kayla is telling him actually happened this time?
Thank you so much Gemma for bringing us The Devil's Spawn!!!

Nope. I still hate Gage.

He was ever so slightly less evil in a few of the scenes of this book versus the others, but I'd still slap him with a restraining order so fast his head would spin. Hopefully right off of his body.

I kept hoping he'd dial it back and try to treat Kayla like a wife instead of a slave, but sadly that wasn't in the cards. As such I do not personally consider this to be an HEA. I think Kayla wants to be a wife, even if a submissive one, but Gage wants her to be a slave he can torture. He loves her because she lets him beat her and control her to his heart's content. It doesn't work. They need to compromise, but since he refuses to do so it falls to Kayla to completely bend to his will. It's bull$hit. She might enjoy a little pain to a degree, but no one enjoys being beaten until they are black and blue/bleeding.

Sigh. This was not for me (hence no rating). However, the writing was good, and the pace kept me glued to my Kindle app. I actually would recommend this series for folks who like this kind of thing- D/s relationships with a sadistic dominant. Total power exchange. Brutal and violent punishments. But I definitely do not recommend it for anyone else.

Omg it’s finally over. This series was clearly not my jam. I should have abandoned ship after book 1 but it was like a car crash and I couldn’t look away. There was absolutely nothing redeemable about this MMC. He’s mentally sick and needs therapy. The FMC says she’ll marry him if he gets therapy. He said he did. He had to be lying, either about going or he lied to the therapist because he didn’t change his behaviour at all.

The author does state that The Devil’s Kiss series is a dark romance with a BDSM edge that does not conform to safe, sane, and consensual practices. Believe her.

I can’t even classify this as romance because for me, romance needs an HEA and in the end this twisted toxic relationship is in the same place it was when it started except now there is another child in the house. Gage is a selfish controlling asshole who wields his sadism like a weapon but calls it love. Kayla is a broken shell of a woman who ‘loves’ her abuser. I wanted to shake her. I wanted to ask her if this relationship mirrored what she would hope for her two daughters. I wanted a redemption moment where Gage finally realized that limits actually mean something. Kayla finally leaves after finding out some secrets from Gage’s past (he refused to share the majority of his past with her while demanding every detail of hers). Gage lasts 24 hours before coming in, on his knees and begging her to come home - he’ll doing anything, just tell him what she needs. That lasts a whole 20 minutes because he’s musing on her punishment for leaving on the drive home. Do you know what she needs Gage? She needs the ability and safe space to have her valid feelings and emotions. She needed you to listen to her limits. She needed you to respect her boundaries. She needed you to not fucking whip her while angry and drunk… but he doesn’t care about any of that. She needs therapy but he’d never allow that because any therapist would tell her how incredibly unhealthy the relationship is. She’s basically got Stockholm syndrome. Love shouldn’t cause you psychological and emotional pain daily.

The Devil’s Spawn is the fourth installment of the Devil’s Kiss series by Gemma James. If you haven’t read the previous books then I suggest you do that before reading The Devil’s Spawn.

I can official state that I’ve read the full series of Devil’s Kiss. The beginning of the series certainly intrigued and kept my interest going as we watched Kayla do anything and everything in her power to save her child. However, half way through the series, I felt the relationship between Kayla and Gage wasn’t growing to new levels as I would have liked to see. In The Devil’s Spawn, we’re introduced to Kayla accepting punishment for a lapse in “judgement” involving a ex-lover who’s now turned into a brother-in law. For me, I felt like this story started to fall flat because there was no build between their relationship anymore. Gage just kept on taking from Kayla whether she was giving him permission or not. In addition, I felt like Kayla became too depended on Gage instead of keeping her independence and the freedom she was searching for in the pervious book, The Devil’s Wife (book #3). These two characters are dysfunctional and that’s how the author portrays them, which is fine, but the elements and foundation of The Devil’s Spawn, just fell flat for me as a reader.

Please know that I’ve read Gemma James previous work and fell in love, but this particular series just didn’t captivate me as I would have liked. However, we all have those times, where we find books by authors we love, that don’t work for us and that is alright.

I would still recommend for those to try out the Devil’s Kiss series if you enjoy dark erotic romances.

The Devil’s Spawn is the 4th book in The Devil’s Kiss Series. This series must be read in order. These are DARK books so make sure you look at Gemma James warning.

Now that being said if you love dark books like I do then I am sure you will love to hate Gage Channing.

Gage is a man that you will either love him or hate him because he is “The Devil”. He is one of the most controlling characters that I have read about. Oh he isn’t the only one but, he is high up in the ranks for being very controlling. He wants to control every aspect of Kayla’s life. I think if he could tell her when she needs to use the restroom he would. Not that Gemma James went there with his character. That’s just how controlling of a man he can be.

Kayla can’t seem to help herself and she is so attracted to Gage that she gives up her free will. Kayla keeps leaving Gage only to be brought back into his control. I won’t tell you any more about the book but, if you love pretty dark erotic romances. The Devil’s Series is pretty addicting and at times seems like a “train wreck” (quoting another blogger/friend of mine) that you just can’t pass by and have to just keep on reading.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book. I give The Devil’s Spawn 4.5 stars and I look forward to reading more books by Gemma James.

I think this is the final installment to Kayla and Gage's unconventional relationship. This book had several surprises, some Kathleen drama, kids drama and more punishments by Gage. There are also some scenes from Gage's POV that are insightful. Bonus material at the end of the book...LOVED IT!!

Overall, this was an excellent series! Gemma James created a anti-hero in Gage, who was unapologetic. He was different, he was rough, wrong, mean, brutal, unforgiving...and I loved him! I was most impressed that the author did not feel the need to make him soft because he fell in love with Kayla. In fact, he got more over the top possessive! This drew me into the story more. What she did do was show his soft side. He was so loving and tender to Kayla when she needed him to be and he demonstrated this when interacting and loving on Eve. This is the correct way to get your reader to fall in love with an anti-hero. I'll have to look for more reads from Gemma James.
Bravo!!! Bravo!!!

Re-Read June, 2020: It's still a great series! I would love to see how the kids turned out and check in on Gage and Kayla. Wishful thinking!

Living with, loving, and married to a sadist is not an easy task. It's especially difficult for the insecure Kayla with an independent streak a mile wide. Or at least it was when they met...

She wasn't originally part of the BDSM lifestyle and so her submission comes at a price. Her previous relationships leave trust a dangling bandaid in a pool. Only a small scrap of adhesive keeps it in place and the slightest provocation could cause you to bleed everywhere.

I was desperate to get to the part reflected in the prologue. I needed to know everything, but as Kayla learns...curiosity can get your ass spanked or worse.

This series has been interesting for me. It's my first with a sadist and the mind set is boggling. I've read several D/s books but never with a sadist at the helm. I can honestly say I can't imagine Kayla's daily life but that kind of devotion could definitely make a girl compromise her freedom. However, I'm way too mouthy.

Kayla is stupid as hell. Aint no way im submitted to a bastard who like to put they thumb in my ass and put me in cage. Take my freedom but can't only come out when she says yes to anal. Girl get a backbone and leave. Hate dumb girl like that. She deserve to get treated like trash that she is.
If she couldn't leave for her at least leave for her daughter. Trying so hard to finish this book. 20% left and i'm done for good.

Well written

I guess I can say it was a good book if one is into BDSM or whatever that acronym is. I guess I just can't get over the abuse of what a person feels he or she can give. I am not into these types of books. I was hoping the H would redeem himself but why would he do that when the h wants it so bad.

With Kayla back under his conrol,Gage makes sure she never thinks of disobeying him ever again. He pushes her farther than ever with his punishments until he’s satisfied with her submission to him. But when she finds out she’s pregnant, hormones start raging and an old enemy resumes efforts to seperate them, things get complicated yet again......Great finale to a great series!
