Stephen John "Steve" Coogan is a BAFTA-winning English actor, comedian, writer, impressionist and producer. Born in Middleton, Greater Manchester, he began his career as a stand-up comedian and impressionist, working as a voice artist throughout the 1980s on satirical puppet show Spitting Image. In the early 1990s, Coogan began creating original comic characters which he presented in stage shows, this led to him winning the 1992 Perrier Award at the Edinburgh Fringe, for his show with long-time collaborator John Thomson. The most prominent characters he developed at this time were Paul Calf, a stereotypical lower class Mancunian and his sister the promiscuous Pauline (played by Coogan in drag).
Working with Chris Morris, Patrick Marber and Armando Iannucci for On the Hour and The Day Today,

Coogan developed his most popular and most developed character; Alan Partridge, a socially awkward and politically incorrect regional media personality, who developed to feature in his own eponymous television series, Knowing Me Knowing You with Alan Partridge and I'm Alan Partridge, which were well received and were nominated for five BAFTAs in total.

"If you were stuck in a lift, what one book would you have with you?"
-Alan Partridge to intellectual novelist

Alan, Alan, Alan. Or should that be Alan! Alan! Alan! As the marmot cried. What a guy. Alan Partridge of the melliflous voice and razor sharp wit and I end I spent the arvo together. And I couldn't help but laugh. Often. Til my stomach hurt.

What a man. What a talent. What sparkling repartee.

Awkward, cringeworthy, gauche. But oh-so-funny.

I listened to the audio version, which was hilarious. Alan likes to "have a bit of a chat" and interviews a variety of guests via his cleverly named chat show Knowing Me, Knowing You. Ah-HA! I'm sure my neighours wondered what I was up to.

"A great lady or a mad old trout? You decide!"
- Alan Partridge to relationship therapist

Hearing the great man's voice, as he interviewed guests on his radio show, had me in stitches. I kept rewinding to listen to bits, they were so ridiculous. Better tonic than any gin.

"What's your favourite colour car? ...What's your favourite "Haute cuisine" (hot food)?"
- Alan Partridge to French racing car driver

Alan! Alan! Alan!

Alan is such a genius. I'm thinking I should get into his written word works of art next year. Expand my mind.

Shout out to Randwick City Library who had this audio version available for my listening (or as Alan would undoubtedly say, my aural) pleasure. Highly recommended.

Laughter truly is the best medicine.

The early days of Alan Partridge as a radio show are presented on these discs (although I listened through Audible). Lots of good humor and uncomfortable fun! I recommend for fans of Steve Coogan, and for British comedy lovers in general.
