It's a new year for Allie and Alec and that means a new mystery to solve. When beloved elementary school teacher Iris Rose ends up on ice, they must find her killer before her killer makes Allie the second victim. There are lots of changes in Sandy Harbor, Maine. Allie McSwain has retired her grief blog and is baking up a storm to sell her pies and cakes at Henry's Home Cooking Restaraunt, while her boyfriend Alec Blanchard, has retired from the police department and is studying to become a PI. Allie's sidekick Lucy Gray shows up to help along the way.
I always say the same things in these reviews, but I always mean them. I love the books by this author (although I admittedly enjoy some series more than others).
I really love the pacing of these books. They're on the short side (which I actually enjoy, especially in between longer books, and especially if those books sort of dragged in places) and they're written so that you don't feel like you're wasting a lot of time. You get to the murder quickly, you're given enough cozy to make the story nice and...well...cozy, but you're not bogged down in things that are really quite unnecessary.
I honestly just love these little cozy mysteries (that I consider something like "potato chip" cozy mysteries, since I can't stop consuming them), and I do highly recommend them.
The mystery is enjoyable if a bit predictable. This will be the last book in this series I read though. I find myself liking the characters less and less with every book. The daughter is whiny and immature. The main character excuses away her now adult daughter’s childish behavior by repeating she’s sensitive. The main character also is getting annoying as this series goes on.
Catching up on reviews. Didn’t realize kindle wasn’t marking these completed.
Since I don't normally write reviews unless I have something specific to say, here's the break down of how I rate my books...
1 star... This book was bad, so bad I may have given up and skipped to the end. I will avoid this author like the plague in the future.
2 stars... This book was not very good, and I won't be reading any more from the author.
3 stars... This book was ok, but I won't go out of my way to read more, But if I find another book by the author for under a dollar I'd pick it up.
4 stars... I really enjoyed this book and will definitely be on the look out to pick up more from the series/author.
5 stars... I loved this book! It has earned a permanent home in my collection and I'll be picking up the rest of the series and other books from the author ASAP.
10++++ stars !!!! What Allie and Alec went through to find out what had happened and why and who did it! Only two maybe three people had reasons to do it, but why, couldn't find anyone else who do it. I love Allie and Alec together, they are both embarking on new direction in their life's that is very interesting. You really need to read this book, you won't be disappointed!!
More excitement for Alec and Alli in this book! A school teacher is found in a cold walk and the two get heavily involved in finding who did it! A surprise and action filled series! I LOVE this series and look forward to more relationship growing between the two main characters!
This was a very good cozy mystery with a lot of fun dialog. The characters, especially Allie and Alex really came to life, especially with their romance progressing. While I was almost sure who the culprit was, the reveal was very exciting and unique and I read a lot if cozy mysteries. I really like this series and plan to read more.
I couldn't really get into the story. I didn't find the main characters very likeable and you could tell who the killer was as soon as you met them. I'll read a few more to see if the series improves.
Fun Cozy read for a rainy day. Characters are full of life (well, except the dead one) and leave you wanting to read the next book in series. And bake.
What a great series! Allie and Alec decide to walk in the woods to gather snow for snow creams when they stumble across a dead body. The woman happens to be a school teacher who was loved by all. Who and why did this happen? Along the way, Alec is studying to be a licensed PI and Allie wants to sell her bake goods at Henry’s Home Cooking Restaurant. But little did she know that she had to get a Health Department Inspection to be licensed to bake in her home. So, while Alec and Allie are trying to get their business in order, they are dealing with the murder. Join them as they work to solve the murder. So many twists and turns to keep you guessing.
An enjoyable and fun read. The characters are very likable and the story flows well. The author kept my attention and interest throughout the entire book so much I had a hard time putting the book down. Nice plot with great lively, vibrant characters that add a depth to the read.
If you've read any of my other reviews then you know that I love this little series...I mean why else would I keep reading them. I don't read the description of the book prior to writing these reviews but I have some issues with it but only on technicalities. I've also mentioned that I'm a very slow reader but I was able to finish this book in just a couple of nights (probably another reason that I enjoy them, they're fast reads).
I give this book 4.75 out of 5 stars. It did keep me guessing who done it the whole time even though I had my suspicions. If you've read the previous books then you will know that it's basically a new mystery every month and with this being the 5th month in a row that Allie has been in the midst of a murder investigation (helping not a suspect), you finally see the toll it is taking on her. That Southern woman doesn't like to show her weakness but her daughter calls her out on it and I loved it!
Nothing kills an appetite for snow cream made from snow found in the woods than finding a body in said snow in the woods. I can't say I blame Allie for banning any idea of using woods snow lol. Since the victim was a beloved teacher, this became Alec's first case as a self-employed PI since the PD was short-handed. He definitely seemed to get along better with Sam the chief now that he wasn't employed there but as an independent contractor.
I had a feeling for most of the book whodunit, and Allie found out in a scary showdown just how the teacher met her death. I'm wondering if she might be rethinking this whole assistant to the PI business now? On to the next book to find out!
This is the fifth book and I have enjoyed all of them. The mysteries are good at keeping you guessing who did it. The recipes are a sweet bonus. I was glad to see Allie move on to other personal adventures with her baking and her relationship with Alec is fun to watch develop.
