Raw. Real. Emotional Romance. Writing provocative and darker themed romance that always finds its happily ever after!
With 50 plus, full length books there is a story for everyone! Cowboy romance? Got it! Small town... yep. Big city rock star? Covered! You like a little suspense? Yep, got a few of those too.
Most of my books are standalone stories in connected series. Whether it's the setting, theme or family connections, my series are often multi-generational and span decades. While each book is a complete story, beloved characters will pop in and out of these sagas. I stick to new adult, contemporary and western romances, with tons of emotion and all the feels tucked into them.
I live in the rainy area of Western Washington, and spend as much time as I can traveling to destinations all across the state, where I do all things outdoors. Many of these locations become the settings for my books. I earned my business degree from Western Washington University, and worked for several years in the construction management field before turning to writing full time.
When all those people were judging Jocelyn, and judging her, why did no one mention the fact his wife died with another man! She was the cheater. Yes he did too, but she did it more than once. I didn't get that. It was so annoying. No his cheating was wrong but why didn't they judge Marcy too?? She sounded awful. Ben was a jerk too. I didn't like him at all. Even toward the end but I wanted an HEA for Lillian/Annie. And I got one but the rest of the book was just cringe worthy. His wife died with another man. But Jocelyn was the bad girl???? It was just wrong. And what the heck was up with Jack? That was disappointing. I don't know if I will read the rest of the series. I was just sad.
So I took a break from this series for awhile but came back to finish it up. This one was quite angsty. First let me say that I'm glad the hero's father, Jack, got out of his funk cuz that was upsetting me. Okay, moving on, there was a severe conflict for the hero and the heroine to over come here. Sometimes conflict in romance novels feels pretty contrived but I think this situation was a legitimate road block for the couple. I felt like the author did a good job of believably helping the two of them eventually come together.
I really enjoyed this one. The end of the last book was pure devastation for the Rydell family and this felt like more than redemption for Ben. It really was a rebirth for all of them.
Davis did a great job of giving the events of the year between the end of the last book and where this one began, creating a solid story for Ben & Jocelyn’s relationship, as well as being completely convinced in their HEA.

Father and son spirits are broken by tragedy. Jack Rydell who had been the strong patriarch leading his brothers and his son's falls after losing his ranch to fire and losing his son to grief and guilt.
This was not a pretty story. Ben Rydell got married very young and realized it was a mistake and ended up in his best friend Jocelyn's arms while his wife burned to death in the fire that took out the whole valley of River’s End. Unable to live with the guilt of him having the best experience of his life while his wife was dying he runs away from River’s End and ends up using drugs and alcohol to quite his demons. He always expected his father to come and find him and drag him back to his responsibilities. That didnt happen for 9 months and when his father finally did show up he was more broken than Ben was. But the news he came with – that he was now a father – couldnt have shocked him more.
Jack's book was the first in the series. He was forced to become guardian to his brothers when their parents died and also to be a single parent to his 2 sons when his wife also died. He was such a strong willed man in that book – family and the Ranch were everything to him. Seeing what losing the Ranch and Ben did to him was very hard to take. This wasn't just Ben and Jocelyn's story. It was the whole Rydell's clan basically switching roles in leadership and stepping up to take up the slack when Jack no longer wanted the responsibilities.
There is a lot more that happens through this book and I am leaving out Jocelyn's side but by the end of this book the Rydell's who were almost beaten by the tragedies that befell them rise up from the ashes as new people with a whole new business adventure along with the having the love that binds them together.
The Rydells saga continues and in this story the family and friends and community is reeling from the worst fire disaster in their state's history. So many have lost so much including property and lives. Ben Rydell has lost his wife Marcy. But worse than that he has lost his self respect and sense of honor and probably his best friend Jocelyn. Jocelyn has secretly loved Ben since they were kids and suffered through the years of watching him fall in love and eventually marry Marcy. Once her friend who became a vicious enemy as they grew older, Marcy was all wrong for him and everyone around them knew it. On the night everything burned, Marcy ran off and Ben turned to Jocelyn for comfort. One night of unrequited passion on the same night his wife is burned alive and their lives will never be the same. While the family is trying to pick up the pieces and rebuild, Ben has disappeared, running from the past, present and an uncertain future. But his dad will go to the ends of the earth to drag him back to face reality or make right a wrong. Ben and Jocelyn will have to come to terms with the consequences of their actions in the form of their baby girl. Can they reconcile what they once had or will their guilt be too much to even remain friends? The subject of this story is probably difficult for most readers as many still consider infidelity a taboo subject. But I applaud a writer that can bring light to real life. These things happen. I don't condone it but I can't ignore it and pretend it doesn't happen. I also can't judge someone until I have read their story. This is part of Ben's story. You cannot leave it out and pretend it didn't happen. You can't understand his struggle without his story being told.
The Fire destroyed River's End except for a few homes. Lives were lost, including Ben's wife, Marcy. He runs away to forget, taking grunt jobs to support him and the drugs he takes to forget Marcy's horrible death which he feels responsible for as he sent her away from a party they were attending after an argument about her infidelity and she got caught in the catastrophic wildfire. While she was being burned to death, he made moves on his best friend, Jocelyn. They had grown up together but she long ago had been aware of her love for Ben. That night she conceives a daughter and delivers her in the run down cabin she grew up in with the help of Ben's father, Jack, and stepmother, Erin. Jack goes after Ben to demand he pay Jocelyn maintenance and child support. He wants him home but finds him in bad shape, drugged and lacking even basic hygiene. Jack sees a parallel between his son's running away and his own feeling of despair over the loss of his Ranch complex in the Fire. Meanwhile the Family has taken in Jocelyn and the baby, put her in the one bedroom apartment where Ben and His late wife lived. This novel traces their long healing journey back to normalcy by jointly parenting their daughter, and becoming friends again. This book is a relief to read after the Fire. I give it four stars instead of five, because the relationship between Ben and Jocelyn seemed over fraught with guilt and very little romance. I kept wanting to point out that Ben had been betrayed many times by his wife and he had stuck by her regardless. Yes, she died a horrible death, but she was a user and put herself in the position of being spurned by her own greediness and infidelity.
This is more of a 3.5 star review. I just didn't feel the connection between Ben and Jocelyn. Ben was a jerk for most of this book. He only redeemed himself after he stepped up. Of course this was after his dad put the fear of God into him. I get that he was grieving for Marcy and the ranch but that's no reason for him to act as cold as he did. Him and Jocelyn had a moment of passion that neither expected to happen. Jocelyn, I loved. She owned up to her mistake and took a lot of beatings in this book. The townspeople weren't nice to her at all. She was a harlot in their judgemental eyes. Thankfully the Rydell family took her in and stood up for her. She knew what had to be done and did. She knew nothing about being a mom but knew she was all her daughter had. With the help of the Rydell women, she learned a lot. She was strong and gave Ben an earful when he needed a kick in the butt, which was often. This book was just ok for me. I do hope the next one is better.
River’s Lost is a deeply emotional entry in Leanne Davis’s long-running River’s End series that centers on Ben Rydell, a young man shattered by tragedy and running from the life he once knew. After a devastating fire ravages the valley and his family’s ranch, Ben disappears without a word, believing he’s unworthy of forgiveness and unable to face the consequences of his choices.
Meanwhile, Jocelyn Jantz—Ben’s longtime friend—finds herself alone and unexpectedly caring for a child that ties her forever to Ben’s past. When Ben is finally found by his father, he must grapple with what he left behind and the life that now demands his presence, especially the daughter he never expected to meet.
Davis doesn’t shy away from the darker, messier side of love and loss, and her strength lies in portraying characters who are flawed, hurt, and learning to shoulder responsibility in their own imperfect ways. The story blends grief, hope, and the pull of family ties, making for a slow-burn redemption arc that feels both painful and rewarding.
Verdict: A heartfelt, gritty romance with real stakes and emotional depth—ideal for readers who appreciate complex characters, slow-burn reconciliation, and stories about finding your way back home after everything falls apart.
Rivers List follows Ben Rydell and Jocelyn. Ben left the family ranch the night of the fire that destroyed the ranch, most of the valley and killed his wife. Ben is overcome with guilt after sending his wife away and virtually wishing her dead. To make matters worse he found comfort in his best friend, Jocelyn, the fateful night his wife died. Jocelyn meanwhile stayed behind and helped at the ranch, only to find she had come away with more than she expected from her night with Ben, she’s pregnant with his child. The story follows the 2 of them dealing with their guilt and finding a way to live with their actions. It makes no difference that Ben’s wife was horrible to him and his family and had been cheating on him.
Love and some "adult" choices made as a teen helped but Ben Rydell on a path that left him reeling and running from past mistakes. I think it was easy to relate to, knowing everything and making wrong choices as a young adult. It didn't help that tragedy struck once he thought he was finally making choices. This book was about Ben growing up, taking responsibility but yet letting go of things that are not in his control. It was hard not to feel for Jocelyn: being alone most of her life, going through things that teenagers shouldn't have to, but her working her tail off to try get herself out of her predicament. She was a strong and loving character. I also loved that the Rydells were loving, supportive and stable for her.
I would have given this book 4 stars however I was NOT happy with how Jocelyn's character was portrayed. Ben described Jocelyn as this strong, independent, hard working individual who did not care what others thought of her. One error and all of a sudden her character does a 180. I don't buy it. I was very disappointed in how the author made her mousey and the entire town was allowed to bully her. Did EVERYONE forget that Marcy was no Angel? And that includes Ben. So Marcy was allowed to be lazy, surley, a cheat and an all around malcontent and Ben and Jocelyn beat themselves up for their one-time slip up. SMH.

This was a well written story that was the aftermath of the fire from the last book. At the beginning there is so much tragic moments that Ben Rydell decides it's time to leave the only town he knows and runs away. Leaving behind the women he loves who just happens to be his best friend Jocelyn. Through all this Jocelyn is struggling with her own issues and a surprise she doesn't see coming and that's becoming pregnant. This book is good and sad but even with the sad moments this book is such a great read and I loved this series so much.
I really wanted to love Ben’s story, but it fell a flat for me. I understood him feeling guilty about telling Marcy off before she died, and for cheating, but felt that it went on way too long for someone that had been trapped in a loveless marriage. Also, what is up with this hick town that would treat Jocelyn so horribly for having a baby, and so many other little details bothered me about this book. Like the whole personality change in Jack, it sorta felt like it ruined Jack and Erin’s HEA for me.
This installment of the River’s End series was heartbreakingly poignant. Ben Rydell left River’s End after a passionate night with Jocelyn, who had been his friend since school. Ben’s unfaithful wife died in the fire that took over the town. Unable to deal with his guilt, he leaves and does not know what he has left behind. His father finds him and brings him home to face his responsibilities. Readers who are familiar with the series will find themselves aching for this young couple. There’s no black and white in this series. All characters are flawed and believable, painfully so.
I thoroughly enjoyed Ben and Jocelyn and Lillian story. This one was so heartbreaking but wonderful. It amazes me how something so horrible like the fire and other thing that happened to bring a family together stronger and better. I think Lillian had a lot to do with it with Jack and Ben's state of mind. I have love Jocelyn in every book I have read, but this finally explained the closeness between Jocelyn, Ben and Joey as teens. The three best friends. I highly recommend this book to everyone who loves a great love story.
This is Ben book. He is still gone but he doesn't know about Jocelyn being pregnant with his child. She goes into labor and she has to call for help. She calls Ben dad Jack. Jack deliveries his own granddaughter. Jack is now bound and determined to get Ben back. She is treated like crap by the town people. The family is changing and the ire has changed everyone and Ben is one of them This book was an awesome continuous of the series. Can't wait for more
Wow is all i can say. This isn't a pretty story. This has tragedy in it from the start. Ben runs away from all the grief and heartache in his home town. Ben is lost. He looses himself in drugs and alchohol. He is mourning his wife and his town. His dad cones and find him to give him news. This story really gets you. Watching everything unfold, i was in awe. This doesn't just take us on Ben journey but everyones story on how they cope with the loss.
I really love Ben and Jocelyn story ...after the fire Ben runs always wile he away she find out she pregnant ..she all alone thru pregnancy then She she in need of help so she call Jack for help and he deliver his grand daughter....Jack on mission to find Ben will and will be able to convince him to come back for his daughter.. Get this book you wil love it ...hurry buy this book you won’t regret
I definitely wasn't expecting this from Jack or Ben! So much loss and anguish would knock anyone for a loop. I thought Marcy was playing that game, but I was really hoping she wasn't.
Jocelyn's strengths are amazing, especially after all she has endured. We learn so much about her life and struggles that you really just want to scoop her up and protect her forever ~
People with a romantic history, good or bad, offer have a time moving on with their lives. That’s what happens to Ben and Jocelyn, childhood friends. One night of sex and their lives change for ever. Both have to learn to live with bad mistakes that effect their lives and others. My big issue was the judgie behavior by Ben and the community towards Jocelyn. There was plenty of guilt to go around.
I loved this series! This is another story we wish we could walk into for awhile to stay. We definitely feel like we're a part of this imperfect family by this last book. Leanne you've told this story so beautifully they couldn't ask for more! (But I can!!! Give us more!) :)
I have enjoyed each book in this series even more than the one before it. The story of Ben and Joycelyn might be my favorite one yet. This series has been one of my favorite contemporary series, the characters all have their flaws and seem so human and real, this and a fantastic story line make this book almost impossible to sit down. It is worth your time to give Leanne Davis's books a try!
I love all things Leanne Davis, and all things River. This is Ben & Jocelyn's story. What a story it is....tears, fears, hope, and happiness. No-one, and I do mean no-one, can write the emotions of a character the way Leanne does. Easy to read and hard to put down. I'm looking forward to many more. She's definitely one of my one-clicks.
This is one of those stories where your like really. Tears and hurt . A fire that takes about all of his family ranch and also his wife, he turns to trouble and then he tries to get away but life has a way of slapping when your down and makes you wake up. This is what happens , lots of twists and turns great story will keep you reading.
This book was fantastic. It was so hard to read at times but it worked. Everyone’s pain and struggle felt real as opposed to literary fantasy. Personally I wish the conflicts hadn’t lasted so long before moving to resolution, but I can understand all the pieces needing to be in place.
Didn’t love books 4 and 5 but this one definitely grabbed me and didn’t want to let go.
On my god, this is not a sappy romance novel. It's a big, angsty, devastatingly good story, about pride, love, guilt, bitterness, cowardice, friendships that turn to hatred, lives wrecked by the overwhelming fires which consume them. Sweet and urgent sexy read, compounded by anger, guilt, lives ended. Tragic, and wonderful. Recommended adult.
After the family loses everything of the ranch to a wildfire, and Ben loses his wife to the fire, Ben leaves home and Jack falls in to a deep clinical depression. But Ben left behind something very important and he doesn't even know.
Another good story. This one deals with infidelity and depression and drugs and many other things, but as always we get the HEA.
Great story. I love Jocelyn and Ben together. But I had trouble with how they were treated in light of how Bens former wife acted. It felt hypocritical that Marcy died with the guy she was cheating with but everyone wanted to persecute Ben and Jocelyn for the same act.
Ben and Jocelyn both suffered great guilt from their actions of one tragic night. Though Ben briefly turned to alcohol and drugs he never fully lost the person he truly was. The love he and Jocelyn shared not only helped Ben to mature but was also a new beginning for the Rydell Ranch enterprises.
