I adored this book! It's a gritty little gem of a noir paranormal that manages to be both heartbreaking and deeply satisfying. The hero is both compellingly flawed and compellingly sympathetic, and - while the story's satisfyingly self-contained- there's hints of a greater world that I'm curious to explore.

5/5, and I wish there was more of it!

If you fancy a quick fantasy read then you have found it!

The Necromancer offers a suspenseful story that grabs you right from the start. It has a dark and shadowy atmosphere equivalent to it's name with mysterious characters that leave you wanting for more.

A strong point of the story is definitely when the main character Joe Cooper's thoughts, habits and feelings a given the right amount of “screen time” for example how he feels about himself and especially how he feels about his father. That makes Joe feel relatable and intriguing because he is not perfect, far from it.

As a reading experience the text flows onward and keeps a tense anything-can-happen atmosphere through the book. A worthwhile reading indeed.

The story's overall message of hope is made all the more compelling by Joe Cooper's intense battle with his own guilt and harrowing past. These thoughts chase and threaten him as much as the sinister figure that pursues him through a city fraught with ghosts and demons and sinister magic. Cooper is forced to be bold by necessity, his precarious luck and desperate courage making the story a wild ride from start to finish.
