Rate this book
SIMULATION is a fictional novel and is the DEBUT release from Dystopian Thrillers author M. Black. A YA SyFy dystopia, along the lines of City of Ember meets CW’s The 100. This story will capture your heart and still won’t let go even at the end. Written in part while listening to Outside by Ellie Goulding, this story contrasts technology to nature, rich to poor, privilege to hardship, and illusion to reality.

“No one is getting in but whom we allow, and no one is ever getting out.”

Set in 2175 in Colorado, USA, where Citigogs are the new form of cities and citizens are kept under a careful population control, we meet Ilia the Princess of our main Citigog named Iliad, and Jez a Giver. As Ilia spends more time with Jez, she finds herself drawn to the Outside and ventures out of her Citigog only to learn that everything is not what it seems.

Fans of the Divergent and Hunger Games series will revel in this story about a strong, but disillusioned heroine who must become brave as she uncovers the truth about her world.

I really loved the uniqueness of the story. It has a feel like S.R. Johannes' The Breathless series (which sadly is no longer available) and the movie 2012 with a whole lot of differences. Ilia and Jez were my favorites of all the characters, they were like friends that you never want to let go of. Although I did love meeting all of the characters along the way and getting to know each community. Ilia's mom really captured my heart by being a mom and helping her daughter and the outsiders. I wasn't quite sure which way she was going to go for a while there. Her dad was a real piece of work, he really got under my skin. I absolutely love how the characters on the outside live off the land and share with one another when the resources allow. The story shows how life can actually be if things don't change in the way we live now.

This was a very well-written young adult dystopian novel. Ilia is a princess in Iliad, a population controlled city. Ilia meets, Jez, a young man from the Outside area who works in Iliad, and begins to become more curious about life outside of Ilia. She starts to realize that things are not necessarily the way she has been taught all her life... I enjoyed reading their story, and will look for other novels by this author!

What an amazing action packed thriller of a book set in a world that is set in a world that you can easily imagine as our future. It is extremely imaginative and so vivid in it's descriptions. I loved this book and got hooked so easily in this tale and i couldn't stop reading, it was so addictive!

This storyline is brilliant, there is so much about this that i loved The way that it is written draws you into this world, people are becoming aware of how important the environment is and that things need to change so i was so impressed that this author wrote about this topic and in my mind it shows people what can happen. I loved that not only do we hear about what is happening in the here and now but also hear about the past and how things happened to get how they are.

Ilia is a brilliant character to read, she really goes through a transformation within this book and it's amazing to go through it with her. She really does have the heart of a warrior and she doesn't realise how strong she is! There are so many amazing characters in this book and i wish i could write about them all but one other person i have o mention is Jez, he has had it extremely hard in his lifetime, living the way that he has to but he stil has so much room in his heart for love and hope and i think this alone makes him a special character You really can see how much time and love has been pu into these characters.

I adored this book and i can't recommend this book highly enough and it is well deserving of my 5* rating!!!

Simulation, by M. Black
I got this free through Library Thing's Member Giveaways.
I requested this book because it said if you like the Divergent Series or the Hunger Games, you'll like this story. I don't know about Hunger Games (never read it, nor did I see the movies), I really enjoyed the Divergent Series books, so I requested this book
It did start a bit slow for me, as Ms. Black set up her world. I think it was when I got through Chapter 4, I didn't want to put it down. The descriptions were very vivid and you could see both inside and outside the Citigogs.
The characters are developed and believable. Ilia is a strong gal, but either I missed it, or it wasn't mentioned until the end how old she was (just in case it's not mentioned she's 17). I like how the characters interacted together and how Ilia and her sister interacted (although her sister seemed nothing but a bit of fluff).
The story is set in the future, after a war. It's the haves verses the have nots … and the people Outside of the dome. The inequalities and the unfairness of life and doing something about it. Anything else will be spoilers. I'll admit, the first few chapters while the world was being painted, it was slow for me. That's normal for me, when it's very descriptive, which it was, and I just want to get to the action part of the story. There's plenty of action, especially the last quarter of the book.
No real love scenes, other than some kissing and such.
As I said, you like books like Divergent, think you'll really like this one. You like the main characters sticking up for the underdogs, you'll like this one. And what's like unlike Hunger Games or Divergent… it's all in one book.

I really liked this YA story which gives a new perspective on how how life might be should the world go wrong. The story of friendship, resilience and a little romance for good measure makes this a good read for fans of the hunger games/ divergent series.

I got this book for free for my honest review, which I have given. Free via authorsxp.com

What a wonderful story of Ilia and Jez. Deals with a lot of contrasts such as rich and poor etc. I couldn't put it down and happy to have received a copy. Anything this author writes is amazing.
