The Dragon Mage Wars #4

Lusam: The Dragon Mage Wars Book Four

Rate this book
Ever since discovering that his mother is still alive, and being held captive by Lord Zelroth, Lusam has been tormented by terrifying nightmares. He soon finds that it's not only his nightmares which threaten to thwart his plans of a rescue, but also the King himself. New alliances are made, and old ones are tested to their limits, as Lusam's single-mindedness to rescue his mother causes him to take risks that he would never normally consider. A recent discovery allows Lord Zelroth to set in motion a new plan, which if successful, will once again tear open The Great Rift and release the hordes of Netherworld creatures into the world, as well as the imprisoned God, Aamon. The very survival of Afaraon, and possibly the entire world may soon hinge on the decisions that Lusam makes.

Book 1 to 3 was good. It wasn't amazing but I liked it and it's not bad either. So, I didn't bother with a review. It's better than mediocre and a good waste of time.

I quote another review:
LUSAM the arrogant prick. I like how he was in books 1,2 and 3. I am disappointed that he waited to ATTEMPT to rescue his mother because of politics even thou he knew she was being tortured and how he thought he could defeat someone with centuries of experience with his power, ends up getting rescued by his mother.

To elaborate, Lusam is the Hero. He found out his mother is captured. He seemed intelligent and had a lot of wits. Yet, he lost all of it in this book. Sure, the King wants to keep the Hero to himself and protect his country, but what is stopping Lusam from just flying away? NOTHING. What is stopping Lusam from stealing a boat? NOTHING. There is literally NOTHING that's actually stopping Lusam from going to save his mother. But he decided to d*ck around.

He "bargains" a deal with nomads on ships but these nomads backstabbed and betrayed him. Again, what is stopping him from actually going to save his mother? NOTHING.

And how does he plan on saving his mother who is a HOSTAGE?! Notify the enemy and allow them to rally their forces to "obliterate" them. Yeah, "obliterate" them while Lusam's mother has a knife on her neck. Very smart.

Taking two steps back, why did Lusam want to notify the enemy and let them rally their forces? Because he's an arrogant prick. He believes that with 3 books, he is capable of beating a whole f***ing nation straight on. That's arrogant beyond recognition.

Seriously, what happened to the Lusam from book 1 to 3? I don't know but no way in hell am I continuing with this. This isn't even "character development".

Lusam The Dragon Mage Wars: Book Four

In A Nutshell:Lusam the teen mage sets off to kill Lord Zelroth and rescue his mother. The book lived up to my expectations of what you get when a boy challenges an ancient and experienced mage: a filler book. In my opinion, nothing is compelling here.

It took me a while to finish The Dragon Mage Wars 4, mainly because the story is pedestrian. Lusam seems to have regressed intellectually, and newer characters like the nomads of the high seas are flat and dull. There is an entertaining scene between Lusam and Mason (a paladin of Aysha) which made me snigger. Otherwise, It feels like the fill-in book that it is: sandwiched between the beginning of a series and the end. Unnecessarily prolonged. With editing, it would have made a good chapter in the concluding book. I do hope book five is the conclusion!

Spend your money how you feel, but I would suggest you save it.

This book is hard to review. I really enjoyed this series, but this book had some parts that were difficult to get through. The first third was fine, not great, but flowing along nicely. The middle third basically sucked. It was boring, unnecessary POV'S from secondary characters and felt like a bunch of filler. I actually read other books between chapters. But, the final third was action packed excitement and hard to put down. After being so discouraged, I am looking forward to the final book. Overall this series is one that I recommend, but expect some not so good sections from book 4.

Great series

I started reading these because they were free on Goodreads and the first book was great but short, the 2nd was okay but the third was super! This one is too, glad the length is improving too. I like that I can not always predict where the story is going. It would make a cool movie!

The first 3/4 was more like 3.5 stars... as it was a bit slow and this book was the probably the worst so far when it come to excessive and repetitive wording... but the last 1/4 was totally engrossing and I am still invested in this story and the characters.
(Ps. Forgot to actually add when I started this book, so no...I didnt read it in 5 minutes ;) )

Totally engrossing

I've loved every book in the series. They just get better. I'm just sorry I can read them so much faster than they can be written. Eagerly awaiting the next book!

Good story, poorly written

I have found this with all four books. The writing often distracts me from being immersed in the story, usually because far more words than needed are used. Having said that, I still enjoy the storyline and want to find out what happens.

Excellent!

IT is difficult to keep the quality with the next novel in series. It seems there is no problem with this for the author.

Can't wait for the next book!

I love this series and I anxiously await the next book!. The only reason I awarded only four stars is because there were many typos and text errors that were annoying.

Good read, a little to detail in some places

Continuation of a series, too much detail
that slowed the story telling aspect. Looking for the conclusion to this story.

Excellent as always

It just keeps getting better and better. Talk about build up in a story, this book definitely accomplished it. There was a lot of action, drama, and excitement. The storyline deepens and more is revealed. There is another journey ahead for Lusam and I am excited to see what happens, and really hope the next book does not take long to be released. These books must be read in order and if you enjoyed the previous books, you will love this book.

I liked the last 1/4 of the book the rest just seemed like filler.

The first third of the book just seemed blah. Very slow start to this one with alot of pointless information that really went nowhere. I really like the series but wish this book would have progressed the story line better.
