Love is a Lie.

As a photographer for the New York Post, Kari Martin was used to seeing heartache and scandal up close. But one night at the club… her whole world changed.

Heartbroken and willing to call off her wedding, she decides a change is in order and moves from NYC to a small town in Maine, where the average age of the residents there is sixty (or thereabouts). She works to fit in perfectly, and tries like hell not to let anyone find out just how very jaded she’s recently become over the lie called love.

Jake Isaac left Texas quite a few years ago; his heart torn from his chest, and his mind set on being a bachelor forever. Maine would welcome him, give him land to explore and a community to belong to. Getting a job as the coach of the local junior high and serving on the fire department kept him busy — and labeled him a hometown hero — but the truth of his damaged heart was forever hidden.

No one would ever know just how jaded he was about love. That is… until he meets Kari.

Please write a book that makes every character a complete stereotype!
- said no one ever.

Your brother is too a-scared. He's a chicken." Geno started to flap his large arms and make bird noises. <- Italian restaurant owner who is making them a nice a-ravioli. A-sit a-down and eat while I act like Mario from the a-nintendo.

Nice. Two stereotypes in one. This needs to be in the book.

Mixed feelings

I like the idea of the story and it had great moments, but I was very disappointed with a lot of areas within this book. I actually skipped over several pages, and didn't miss a thing. I'll just mention two things that bothered me. One was the level of immaturity from the main characters. The group of women friends still called each other hooker, I mean who does that. Secondly, the main female character just found out her fiance cheated after four years together the night before her wedding. Yet she was not only able to cancel that event in one day that took six months to plan, but she was emotionally over him in a matter of two or three weeks and falling for someone else, whereas the guy was still pinning over a woman he left three years prior. It just seemed very foolish and far fetched. I know it's fiction, but I couldn't see this happening.

Like I said earlier there were sweet moments, and touching dialogue, but overall I was very disappointed. Two stars from me.

Narrator Hannah Pralle did a fabulous job with the audio of this book. I enjoyed the characters. Jake and Carrie both hurt by cheating in their past are scared to hope for a HEA. An incident tests their love when Jake returns home and must face his ex. Worry is a huge concern for both.

Jaded by Ali Parker is a contemporary second chance at love story . The two main characters Kari Martin and Jake Isaac , fit the title , they are both Jaded .
Kari starts off a little jaded, the beginning of the book start with Kari the night before her wedding going out with her BFF's for her bachelorette party , she is nervous about getting married and not a true believer I the state of marriage since her parents divorced , but still determined to reach for the golden ring of happiness, that is until she moves further into the club and discovers her fiancé having sex with some women surrounded by all his buddies cheering him on , in public herlife takes a sudden crash.

With needing to escape NYC and her now x fiancé Frank. She agrees to move to Bar Harbour Maine with her BFF's, Lisa and Sicily . Fate is fickle when you least expect r want something it through a it in your path. In Kari's case fate throws. The very hot sexy Jake Issac in her path the very first night in Maine . To spite being determined to give herself time to get over the pain of infidelity and rejection; Kari can not dey that she finds herself attracted to Jake.

Jake can not believe that he walked up to Kari in the supermarket, it has been three years since Bethany. And her cheating and he knows he is still not ready to try and love again , it would not be fair to get involved with anyone when his heart is guarded and unavailable . He can't seem to keep her off his mind however. And now fate just keeps throwing her in his path, making it harder and harder to resist her , however when Kari risks asking him to lunch , he freezes up and Kari being sensitive and self deprecating takes it as an automatic rejection, Jake knows he hurt her. And he did not mean to and it haunts him , he really does want to spend time with her , the last thing he wants to do is hurt her further . Fate keeps working in favor of these two but does through a few road blocks along the way .

Overall , I enjoyed the story , I loved Jake and I did find that Kari annoyed me a little but just can not pin down exactly why . Overlall a good read , with interesting supporting characters , especially Kari's friend Lisa , really liked her very much a fun carefree spirit!

Marc, Kari's brother is caring and loves his sis, "he didn't hurt you, did he? He wasn't a d*** about it, right." Jake only has so much willpower were his woman is concerned, "watch it, Kari. We won't be taking it slow if you start being as ballsy as I am. One of us has to behave." I enjoyed this book I liked it when serials are all together it means no cliffhangers.

2.5⭐️, I always round up, as in click 3 stars for this but…I just couldn’t get myself to.

First off, if you’re picking this book up for the “second chance” trope. Don’t bother. False advertising imo.

Aggressively insta love

Not amazing writing

But I got an HEA and that always makes me happy.

(Thank you to Ali Parker, Good Tales Book Tour, and NetGalley for the chance to read an ARC of Jaded for an honest review).

Jaded by Ali Parker is the second book by this author that I have read and I am happy to say I liked this serial just as much as the first one. This serial is about Kari Martin (are Rebecca from Baited and Kari related? They both had the same last name) and Jake Isaac, both burned by love and hesitant to jump back into another relationship.

I enjoyed this serial and enjoyed watching the characters constantly bump into each other as they slowly began to open themselves up to each other and love.

This was a sweet read, wish it were longer so I could have spent more time with these characters and learning more about them. Overall, Jaded is a great book and I definitely recommend.

Unfortunately I couldn't connect to the characters and the pace was too slow. The heroine doesn't meet the hero until Chapter 8 and they kiss in Chapter 20. Before the first kiss happens, they are thinking of settling down together. Can't see that happening in real life. Also wish the hero was more alpha. He was a bit too sweet for me. Lastly, the writing style just wasn't for me.

A clean synopsis of the last three books, the build up to Jake's proposal to Kari, and many emotion filled scenes with the extended families make this a heartwarming holiday series.

A poignant story of change, peace and forgiveness covering the same time frame as the Jaded Holiday Novella but from the steamy stand point of Marc and Lisa. As Lisa and Marc's love grows and they plan their life together, they have to face changes in those of their families.

Title: Jaded
Author: Ali Parker
Format: Audio
Narrator: Hannah Pralle
Genre: Romance, Small Town, Sports (basketball)
Standalone: Yes (the version I'm reading includes all three novellas in this book
Part of a Series: Second Chance Romance Book 1
POV: Carrie, Jake
Steam Level: Slow burn
3.5/5

I was debating between giving this book three stars or four. Ultimately I settled on 3.5. Overall it's okay. The series name is deceiving as it's not a second chance with a previous partner but just a second chance at love entirely Carrie moves from big city New York to small-town Maine after she finds her fiancée cheating on her the day before their wedding. Hurt and betrayed she's determined to find herself before opening herself up to someone else. When she meets a sexy man at the grocery store she's intrigued but wary. When she keeps running into him her friends urge her to take a chance on him. But he too has baggage from his past. Will he be willing to open himself up to her? Her to him?

This book was fine. I kept listening but wasn't too invested. Carrie's friends are mix of personalities that balance each other out. I would have liked an epilogue. Hoping we'll see more of this couple in the rest of the books in the series.

There are way too many inconsistencies in this book. The author says that Kari and Frank dated since Freshman year in college and that they are 25 yet says that they dated for four years. Most people (though certainly not all) start college at age 18 and the author gives no indication that Frank and Kari are any different so the math just doesn't add up. She also states at the beginning of the book that she and Frank stopped having sex for six months then later says it was a year.

If that's not bad enough, every single character is both extraordinarily vague, flat and undeveloped and, sadly, also a cliche.

But, wait, it gets worse. There are usage errors, skipped words and just plain weird dialogue. People don't talk the way she has it written. At least not in the parts of the U.S. that I've been in and I'm not a small town girl who has never left the county. The writing is weak, the story is derivative, the editing seems non-existent.

I wanted to like this book but I just can't.

Boring. Spoilers.

So wasnt convinced by this book in anyway. Kari really didn't seem all that bothered that she caught her fiancee cheating in room full of people. Was lucky if the author used more that 2 pages to cover the cheating, wedding being cancelled and the fiancee asking for forgiveness.

Hower spent 8 chapters simply talking about the 3 friends moving to main. This takes you to about 35% of the book........and we still haven't even met the Male lead!!!!!!!!

More time discussing the friendship between the 3 friends. So little effort put into the supposed relationship. Decided to go slow and start as friends but sleep together the same night and in love the next day( this was the first date BTW ) then after drawing out an entire book that could have been told in about 5 chapters the end was completely rushed.

The Male lead would get a couple pages for his pov but the female lead got chapter after chapter. Didn't meat the male lead properly till about 40% into book.

Wont waste my time with any more books by this author

Jaded. The story was sweet kind of the typical love sucks so why bother type of story and then the stereotypical fate brought us together and after a week of knowing each other, we’re now in love type of situation but other than that the situations, the banter between other characters, while a little too much focus on them and not enough on the main characters, was very original and very funny at times. I love the friendship between the 3 women and I’m anxious to see how their stories end. Even though this was a dual POV, I didn’t feel like we learned enough about Jake. He was just kind of there and really kind of boring. He’s not an alpha, just really complacent. Ava, you learn right away that she was in love, and she was hurt but that hurt made her more than a little insecure; understandably. Jake, really had no personality.. he wasn’t an alpha, a joker, a nerd.. he wasn’t grumpy or anything. He was just kind of there. It wasn’t until the end when he just kind of decided this was what he wanted that he became more appealing as a leading male character.

This is Jaded, the series, it’s 3 mini books. The beginning of this book had me intrigued since we immediately have our main character, Kari, finding out her fiancé had been cheating on her for quite some time with multiple women right before their wedding. She calls it off and her and her best friends go off on an adventure and move to Maine to leave it all behind. We meet Jake, who she interviews him for a story for the paper. They instantly have a connection. There romance seemed kind of rushed. The L word thrown out way too quickly. I think the plot could have been more interesting.

Don’t want to nitpick but the audio had some background noise during portions which is distracting. The narration was sometimes hard to figure out who was speaking; the voices weren’t very different.

I requested this audiobook from www.audiobooksunleashed.com for free and have voluntarily left this review.

I was hooked from the moment I started reading. The plot is one that many of us can relate to and who wouldn’t want a second chance at love? Kari has just had her heart broken in a room full of people the night before her wedding. She decides the best thing for her to do is to start over somewhere else away from it all. A small town in Maine.
Jake started over three years ago after walking in on his girlfriend with one of his best friends. He still hasn’t gotten over Bethany and keeps all woman at bay. That is until this hot little photographer moves into town and he can’t get his mind off of her.
Can the two get past the pain of their past to find the happiness they deserve and learn to trust again? I couldn’t put the book down until I found out.
I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

A second read of this novel and it left me feeling a little let down. The characters, both main and secondary have not been developed to their full potential, they are wishy washy and irritating. The story line seems a tad long winded and slow going. You could skip a number of paragraphs and find you havent missed a thing. There are inconsistencies and the time line in age doesn't seem to match up. There are horrible grammatical errors with words used that not even Google or a decent dictionary could give me a definition of. The editing if there was editing done is bad and if any author is wanting an international following they do need to relook the ridiculousness of laid on the bed instead of lay or lie. Just how many eggs were laid on the bed?

A Jaded Couple

I received this book free of charge and voluntarily submit my review.
I really liked this story with the misleading exeptions of fornication and filthy language at times which was apparently viewed as amusing. No wonder young girls are confused about moral standards and end up getting hurt.
It starts with the main character being devastated to find her fiancé having intercourse publicly, which forces her to cancel her wedding. She joins her two friends who are moving to a new town for a fresh start.
It is a sexy story and enjoyable reading but with strong reservations about the difference between love and lust.

I hate not finishing a book but I just couldn’t read it long enough for the live interest to make an appearance. 27% of the way through the book and NOTHING happened. Kari found her cheating on her the night before their wedding within the first couple pages of the book and that was the most excitement that occurred. 27% of the book then consisted of Kari and her two friends packing up to move to Maine.

Could this have turned around? Maybe. I’m just not willing to put in the time to find out.

Jaded - Power of Hope

Cheating douchebag.
Three friends moving towards an adventure. A new town and new prospects
Kari's heart was broken. She interviewed Jake on her first day at work. Hunk of a man.
They are both Jaded, but love and life had a different plan.
An old flame makes an appearance. Will he take back the old lover? Can he be true? Will his love stand strong for Kari?
A sweet romance about trust being broken and new love blooming again

Just ok...

I really hate books that are poorly edited. Maybe the editor has the title but oh my gosh...
To use palatable instead of palpable is just one example. Ali, don't use big words . You seem to be clueless.
The story has potential, however I'm not a fan of instalove. Too many loose ends in this poorly written piece
Don't bother. Too many worthy writers out there who care about their work more than the money.

Uneven

I thought the first 60% of the book was very slow. It felt like it was treading water, not really getting anywhere. The dialogue felt a little stilted. There were some inconsistencies that could have been tightened up with better editing. The two characters were slow to get together in the story but then fell in love immediately. It did not feel realistic. I finished the book but found it vaguely disappointing.

This story overall is pretty good. It would be a 3 star read. However there are some obvious misspellings. There were also some missing parts of the story. When I flipped the page, nothing matched up in the current conversations. I even went back and forth for a while thinking I tapped the screen to many times.

Jaded

The story starts out with Kari catching the man she was to marry with another woman. She leaves town and moved to Maine with her two best friends. Her first assignment for the local newspaper has her interviewing Jake. Both have been hurt by betrayal and are leary of commitment. Can they learn to trust each other?

Jaded

I enjoyed the story of Jake and Kari. At times I wished the story would move along, but I assume this is setting up the dynamics of the series.

Learning to trust someone after having been betrayed is a hard and difficult task, however if you don't take the chance you might miss the "one".

A good fluff

I'm not a fan of the writing style, I got mixed up several times with who was talking and which characters were which. Especially in the beginning. It was a sweet read, definitely one you enjoy after an angsty, dark paranormal read. Overall it was good, I'm sad none of her books are KU. I received this copy for free through an email subscription.

Slow moving and redundant...

More than 50 pages in and the silly conversations over the same situations just repeat. Different scenarios that keep framing the same insecurities that revolve around being cheated on. I started skimming ahead and there’s more repetitiousness. This must be the slowest moving book I’ve read in ages. Moving on.

She leaves NYC to start her life back over in Maine! She gets a job as a photographer in a small town. She continues to run into him and decides to see if they have a connection! Throw three girls & three guys together and you find a party & at least, two couples! I highly reccomend this book!
