Rate this book
Biker and tattoo artist Cade Winters isn't much for weddings or other sappy celebrations. He prefers dive bars, his beloved bike and fighting at underground clubs; the last of which lands him in the hospital after a sore loser attacks Cade in an alley. However, when his best friend Tommy asked Cade to be his best man, Cade didn't hesitate. Growing up without a family to call his own, Cade would do anything, even attend a wedding, for those he now considers his family. Uncharacteristically dressed up, his tattoos barely covered and shaggy beard neatly groomed, Cade meets Cindy; the maid of honor at Tommy's wedding. Cindy is the opposite of anything Cade has ever looked for in a woman, yet he finds himself falling helplessly in love with her. Determined to make Cindy his, Cade must not only win her over but also her controlling and disapproving parents; who will stop at nothing to convince their daughter that a shaggy tattoo artist is not the one for her.

I am really sorry to say that this is the second skimmed book for me within 24 hours. Inked Passion by Amber Burns might be a nice story for people that like insta love that really has no background or deeper feelings. But unfortunately it was not for me. While the Leading characters and the plot idea were kind of nice the plot itself failed in its depth with me.

I am totally flummoxed. This is the second book I’ve read by this writer, and I liked it even less than the first. The biggest reason is all the errors; I’ve never read a book with so many mistakes, unless it was the first book.

The storyline was pretty good, the plot a little thin, but easy to read. The book seems to be a rough draft, one that was dictated because surely a writer could not make so many errors using a word processing package with spellcheck and grammar-check turned on…? Surely not….

Cade, a tattoo artist with his own studio, and Cindy, a nurse from a wealthy family, meet and fall in love. This is “opposites attract” in motion. It makes for some interesting conflicts. He’s also an illegal MMA fighter who always wins.

The book is dark, unnecessarily so; there is a bleak event that served no purpose. It did not move the story along, it did not reveal anything about the characters’ behaviors, morals, or ethics. It was a blip in the story, sad and morbid, but without a purpose within the framework of the story. [I’m being deliberately vague here because to discuss the event would be a spoiler for the intrepid reader who is willing to take on this book.]

The mistakes in this book mirror the initial book I read, Overhaul, the first book in the Boneyard Brotherhood MC series. This is what flummoxes me: the writer seems to have learned nothing from the reviews for Overhaul. Many reviewers noted the huge number of errors and pointed them out, myself among them. This book is not an improvement.

The characters blend together; it is difficult to tell one from the other. Dialogues are the same with no distinguishing characteristics in speech patterns to determine one speaker from the next. They do not often use contractions, so they end up sounding too proper. Here's an example. The speaker is bad boy Cade. "I am so tired, but I have been looking forward to this cup of coffee all night." Here's another, same speaker: "I am sorry, Tank, but I must find Cindy." And a response from an equally bad boy who runs an illegal MMA pavilion: "Look, I am going to help you, because you are a really nice guy. I have always liked you." Now, there's nothing inherently wrong with the conversations, but the wording doesn't match the speakers or their situations.

There are so many errors that the reader is often forced out of the story, in an attempt to figure out what the writer is trying to say. It is tedious and a headache in the making, trying to make sense of the pages, riddled with error after error after error. The first chapter is 8½ Kindle pages long and boasts eleven errors: that’s more than one per page. The rest of the chapters are in no better shape.

Here are some examples:
 “The [beer’s] foam head sloshed over and spilled from the cup’s rim when she sat it down.” Animate objects (people, animals) sit; inanimate objects (books, beer) set. So, the sentence should read, “…when she set it down.”
 “Get off the lady Jimmy.” What is a lady Jimmy? The opposite of a gentleman Jimmy? Actually, I believe the writer forgot the comma used to introduce the name of someone being spoken to. It should read, “Get off the lady, Jimmy.” This is a common mistake throughout the book.
 “Mind you own damn business Cade.” Two errors in this sentence, first it’s most likely “your business,” not “you business” and, again, the writer omits the comma before the name of the person being addressed. This sentence should read, “Mind your own damn business, Cade.”
 “…and drug his body around to the front of the bar.” This is interesting. The correct past tense of the verb, “to drag,” is “dragged.” What makes this so interesting is that “drug” is heard in dialect, generally in southern parts of the United States where “drag” is sometimes treated as an irregular verb. I have heard it used in Great Britain as well, but never had the opportunity to explore it during polite conversation (it definitely would have been impolite to bring it up at the time). Since the writer does not use dialect with any of her characters, I’m thinking this is an error and the sentence should read, “…and dragged his body around to the front of the bar.”
 “Tonight, like every Friday evening, a big screen and projector were prepared to cast old black and white classic.” Huh? I’m not sure about the verb, “cast;” perhaps “broadcast” or simply “show?” And classic what? “Classic” is an adjective in search of a noun. From context, that noun could be “movie” or “film.” Here’s one possible sentence correction: “Tonight, like every Friday evening, a big screen and projector were prepared to show old black and white classic movies.” An editor would have easily suggested better word choices.
 “His eyes were hallowed out….” This is kind of funny. “Hallowed” means sacred, consecrated, holy according to Merriam-Webster. I don’t believe his eyes were sacred. I believe the writer meant “hollowed,” as in, “His eyes were hollowed out….” He’s talking about a drug addict with dry skin, track marks; and now “hollowed out eyes” makes sense.
 “Once the days stress had melted….” The word, “days,” should be possessive, since the stress being discussed belongs (so to speak) to the day. It should read, “Once the day’s stress had melted….”
 “…a single black strip of onyx rand down the center.” Hmmm…rand? That’s a monetary unit in South Africa (equal to 100 cents). I think this is a typo and should read, “…a single black strip of onyx ran down the center.” This example is a good case for the supposition that this book was dictated and never edited.
 “…as the made their way down the sidewalk.” Another typo, I think. This should read, contextually, “…as they made their way….”
 “…made his ways downstairs.” That’s “…made his way downstairs.” No plural.
These are all from the first eight pages. Errors comprise the entire book. Argh!

I rated this book 1.5 stars and rounded down because the errors made the book impossible to read well. An editor would have smoothed out all the rough sentence structures and suggested better wording. A proofreader would have completed the process. I think this is what angers me most about this writer who does not appear to respect her own work enough to either self-edit or send the manuscript to an editor. The book is worth the effort. In its current state, it is barely readable – so many avoidable errors…! It is maddening. So, okay. Since it appears that the writer is not interested in improving her style, then that frees me up to read the many books “out there” that are treasures waiting to be discovered. Sadly, regrettably, disappointingly, this is not one of those treasures.

2 1/2 stars

I read this one as a free add-on, included with Overhaul (Boneyard Brotherhood MC, Romance Book 1)

This was also a decent story, but I had to deduct a 1/2 star due to the numerous little errors throughout the story.

Perhaps the author could have a proofreader review and revise the manuscript, and then the author could replace this edition with a revised one.

I felt like this story jumped back and forth without much flow. I stuggled to finish the read because of the back and forth, it frustrated me.

I was really looking forward to this book and I was not disappointed at all. It pulls you in immediately and holds your complete attention until the end. Being a shorter story it moves at a pretty fast pace but the story still flows smoothly. There is a lot going on in this story so it is constantly moving, there are no parts where the story drags at all. I would have liked it even more if it was a bit longer, to give the story and characters a bit more depth.

The story is an bit of an emotional roller-coaster ride, emotional in the sense of everything that happens, roller-coaster because of the twists in the story. You can't help but root for Cade and Cindy. The bad boy and the good girl. Always an interesting combination. A little suspense, some steamy romance, a bit of drama and mystery are all combined into an entertaining, engaging and enjoyable story.

This is the first Amber Burns book that I have listened to but it won't be my last. I'm looking forward to more of her stories in the future.

Meghan Kelly did a great job with the narration. Pleasant voice that is easy to listen to for long periods of time. She has a distinct voice that is easily recognizable. Clearly spoken with a nice even pace. Really good character voices. She was able to bring the characters and story to life. Very enjoyable.

Chapter 10 the recording overlaps near the end.

Get ready for your tatted bad boy fix. Cade is tatted, runs a tattoo shop and rides a motorcycle. He participates in underground fighting and he is closed off emotionally. But he isn't all he seems. Under all that is a caring man who didn't have the best life growing up. He loves hard but he doesn't give his heart away to just anyone. He meets Cindy at their best friends wedding and sparks fly. Turns out she is the nurse that helped him after he ended up in the ER after being attacked. Their instant connection is so powerful. They are on their way to falling in love but her family doesn't approve. Just when Cindy thinks she will stand up to them their fears may come true as she is in danger for choices Cade has made. Now he is the only one that can save her and try to disprove everyone's judgement. That's all the detail I am giving. I don't want to give too much away. I loved this bad boy romance. Cade totally has my heart. I loved how fiercely he loved and protected Cindy. Can I just say how much I don't like her family?! I wanted to tell them off myself. This story had me totally invested and I loved every minute of it.

I've been thinking about this review for a while because I'm not really sure how to rate this book.
I really didn't like the narration, the emotion in the story didn't come through, it was just a flat delivery and this made it hard to listen too. The character voices for Cade and Cindy were good but some of the others were not.

The story left me with mixed feelings, at times I was enthralled and at others I wanted to stop listening. A lot happened, perhaps too much, there are several key story lines and perhaps this was to much for the length of the book. At times I felt like I was being read a list, but I'm unsure how much of that feeling was the story and how much was the narration.

Overall it was enjoyable, just listen to the sample before you buy to check how you feel about the narration.

This book was supplied free by the author/narrator/publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

Opposite sides of the track romances are always intriguing. Amber Burns writes a story of Cade, a tattoo parlor owner who falls hard for Cindy. Where does he meet her? She is a nurse in the hospital and after an altercation resulting in a stab wound, she takes care of him. The attraction is immediate, and with a mutual friend's wedding coming up, they have the chance to see each other. But will their differences be too much for Cade to win her over? At first I thought this book was just going to be your everyday romance, but there are some very emotional scenes that made me love it. I fell for Cade with his protectiveness and love not only for Cindy, but as we lived through is grief. Cindy's parents made for some great frustration, and added real depth to the story, and the surprises at the end just made my heart sing.

Narrated by the talented Meghan Kelly, I knew I was going to enjoy the story. She brings her books to life with her voice. I loved her performance as always.

Cade is the owner of a tattoo shop with a painful past who is more comfortable at underground fights than in high society which is how ends up in ER when he is assaulted after his last fight and ends up in ER. Cindy comes from a wealthy family and even though she has a successful career as a nurse her parents are disappointed that she isn’t a doctor and happens to be his nurse the night he was brought in.

The next time they meet is at their best friend’s wedding and there is no denying the chemistry and connection between them, but will they be able to overcome their very different lifestyles and the challenges that go along with it? I received a complimentary copy of the audiobook and thought the narrator did a great job of bringing the story to life.

From Audible Account Review:

The strength of both me and female leads was refreshing. No second guessing or insecurities regarding their relationship status or partners feelings. I especially appreciate the commitment Kade feels towards Cindy and doesn't let anything deter him.

This was a fast paced romance with a few twists and turns but all resolve quickly.

Both author and narrator did a great job. There were a few production issues with double voices or long pauses but otherwise good.

Inked Passions (A Love Struck Boys Romance) was a good read by Amber Burns. Cade Winters is a biker and tattoo artist who isn't much for weddings and sappy celebrations. He would rather fight in underground clubs, dive bars, and his bike. One night his fight lands him in the hospital when a sore loser attacks him in an alley. Cade becomes the best man for his best friend Tommy. He meets Cindy, the maid of honor, and is attracted to her. She isn't like any other woman he usually falls for but he ends up falling in love with her. I really enjoyed reading Cade and Cindy's story and can't wait to read more by the author.

I received this audio book free for an honest review. This is my first Amber Burns book and I enjoyed it. The author covered all the genres with this one. There was obviously romance, but also suspense and thrill. I was a little disappointed in how quickly sex happened in the story. Not much challenge there. However, it had a good story. Meghan Kelly is not one my favorite narrators, but she did a good job.

This was a short story but had so much involved from different backgrounds, loves and hates, family and happiness and sorrow. The hits just keep hitting at at times you don't know how you want to feel. I wish this story had been longer so that different parts could have been elasticated in a bit more depth. All the characters were appealing and believable. Wish it could have kept going.

Inked Passions is the first book I have read by Amber Burns. The story line was great and the main characters were well developed. There were some typos but that didn't affect the story line. Cade, a loner tattoo shop owner meets Cindy, a ER nurse who's family has money. The chemistry between these two was great and I love a good opposites attract book. I enjoyed reading this book and I would recommend it to other readers.

I am voluntarily reviewing this book for an ARC copy

Great book. Cade watched his parents die from drug overdose at age of 4. He then grew up in foster care until he ran away at 17. He made a life for himself running his own tattoo shop. He meets Cindy, who is from a wealthy family, at their best friends wedding. They hit it off but struggle through a lot of tough things in the first few months they are together. After things calm down for them Cindy is working in ER one night and her pregnant best friend is brought in after being in accident in which her husband and Cade's best friend dies. The baby is delivered but is really early. They have Tommy's funeral and a week later Heather also dies.

I laughed at times and cried at times. You will have to read the book to see who gets the baby, whether it is Heather's parents or Tommy's parents. Do Cade and Cindy finally get married? Do they get the baby? What does the will say?

Cindy and Cade are from opposite sides of the tracks who find their way to each other. Cindy is a nurse from upper class family while Cade owns a tattoo parlor. They have their best friends Heather and Tommy in common. This book has a couple plot twists which kept me turning the pages!!! A great story.

This is my first book by Amber Burns, but definitely won't be my last.

I received this book as an exclusive ARC This has an engaging storyline and a lot of very likable characters. It's romantic and dramatic and entertaining, with a traumatic twist towards the end. It's about opposites attracting and love at first sight. Cade is hard to resist, he's charming and gentlemanly with a bit of bad boy. Cindy is sweet and has a big heart. I enjoyed reading this book very much.

Cade and Cindy's lives are completely opposite but somehow their relationship just works. From the very beginning it just seems to click but not in that cheesy insta-love kind of way. It was steamy yet tender and sweet. Cade may look the part of a tattooed bad boy jerk but he is definitely all gentleman.
Crazy twists and turns eventually led me to a warmed heart at the end.

Ok random comment- my fave part is when she punches a guy in the nose. There is a huge shock later in the book. I liked it and the characters were well developed and the story line was good but the conversation wasn’t as smooth as I usually like.
