When immortals clash, mortals will pay the ultimate price.

Kat Dubois has been sidelined. With a single word from Heru—no—her plans to save humanity from the Cascade Virus one mortal at a time are put on hold indefinitely. But Kat isn't willing to sit by, watching the world as she knows it crumble around her. While Heru awaits a miracle discovery that may never come, Kat shuns his orders and takes rogue action. Thanks to her trusty deck of tarot cards, she knows that at least the universe is on her side. Probably.

Alongside Nik, Kat throws herself into her work, intending to transform humans into immortal Nejerets as quickly as possible. She refuses to give up, even as her partner in humanitarian crime seems to be losing his grip on reality. Even as she, herself, senses that she’s fighting a losing battle. Even as the universe reveals its truly duplicitous nature and the way onward seems impossible.

Kat is nothing, if not stubborn. She won’t give up. Not without a fight.

Lindsey Sparks also writes as Lindsey Fairleigh.

Lindsey is a bestselling Science Fiction and Fantasy author who lives her life with one foot in a book—so long as that book transports her to a magical world or bends the rules of science. Her novels, from Science Fiction Adventure to Time Travel Romance, always offer a hearty dose of unreality, along with plenty of history, mystery, adventure, and romance.

When she's not working on her next novel, Lindsey spends her time hanging out with her two little boys, working in her garden, or playing board games with her husband. She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her family and their small pack of cats and dogs.

I struggled with this series and to be honest I only read this one because I thought it was the end (it is not). I read the other series first and have never liked Kat all that much. I understand she is stuck in a body that looks 18 but she doesn't need the teenage attitude and rash choices. The other people of her race aren't making the stupid choices of a 25 year old over and over again for thousands of years. If I had read her story first I might have liked her more but you really need to read the other series first (I went and reread the last book).

Her abilities are super cool if only she could grow up. Her love life was predictable (not that I minded) but the easy way it resolved was a little too perfect.

I'll be reading the next book because I want to know what happens...

Alllllrighty then. This book was a bit of a clusterfuck. Inconsistent character personalities run amuck all to convenient plot twists. And for once can Kat just shut the fuck up with the pity. Seriously. She is the most pansy assed assassin to have graced the fantasy world.

Also, did I mention the incorrect use of vocabulary that is driving me nuts? This hasn’t happened since twilight. “Infrequent” does not, in fact, mean “more often.”

The plot gets much more interesting in this book. Kat is not just a rebellious sarcastic nejeret, she is also the chosen one.
The author's writing gets better with every book. I am hooked to this series.

This is third book in the Kat Dubois Chronicles by Lindsey Fairleigh.

This series just keeps getting better and better. I am so intrigued. I am happy there are quite a number of books left to dig into. I feel like this is almost prophetic in a way with its Cascade Virus and how close it is to the pandemic we went through last year.

This has a really cool ending and I like how they decided to handle getting the virus dealt with. This is a fast read and a real page-turner. Highly recommend.

Definitely pick this up if you are a paranormal fantasy lover.

I enjoyed this book well enough but the way things went with Kat and Garth left a sour taste in my mouth. It was like insta-love to inta-platonic in half a book. Also, Kat's impulsiveness is getting old. But I feel like a super massive plot hole was overlooked. Why, if she was trying everything to find a cure did she simply not write on their foreheads 'heal' or something!?! At least make her try it. JEEEZ. It's the first thing I thought.

This book ties up the series and sets up the next sequel in the story. Of course, at this point Kat has grown so much in her abilities it is a shame her personal growth doesn’t happen until the final few chapters. It is easy reading and entertaining enough when you want a distraction that requires no thought.

No spoilers! Like the other books I have read by this author, (my absolute favorite author- I'm part of her advanced reader/fan team and so glad to be) I was absolutely and completely not surprised that I absolutely I loved it. This author, Lindsey Fairleigh, has quite the imagination. The fact that she can put it on paper and the story never gets boring or old at any point in any part of the series, is amazing to me. She leaves you craving more and more.. If you have not picked up this series or the series she wrote with co-author Lindsey Pogue, you must read them. I promise none of the books will disappoint!

I loved Kat when I read the Echo Trilogy & I am so excited that she has her own series. I will say, I strongly suggest reading the Echo Trilogy before starting this series. It will give you some great backstory before diving into this own.

Kat is still battling against the results of what the Ouroboros Corporation has done. This time it is working to find a way to save all the humans from the Cascade Virus.

Kat is bound and determined to do whatever she can to save the humans, even if she had to go one at a time. This book has a whole lot of new information given that I have a feeling will come up again later on. th

I can’t wait to see where this series goes next.

How to best save humanity?

Heru's best laid plans to save humanity are not working out. Millions are dying from the “Cascade Virus” and no real cure can be found. Kat is convinced that the only possible cure is to turn them all into Nejerets but Nik thinks Re is telling him it's a bad idea and Heru agrees. The book is a wild ride with many unexpected twists and turns. It is difficult to predict the outcome or how the characters will get there. It held my interest up to the last page. It was hard to put down.

OMG!!! What a book!.
This is some serious enemies to lovers trope and slow burn series.
KAT is more than a kick-ass immortal, she's a saviour too.
For a moment there I thought NIK will kill KAT, ugh the sexual tension. JUST KISS ALREADY!!!
Is KAT destined to do more in the next books? Fuck yeah! After all she's powerful now.
The ending I was not expecting that AT ALL!. And that too from Cassie's pov. Will we get another series of Cassie in this universe? Who knows.
Overall this book was Amazayn! (Who doesn't love zayn🥵)

One crazy rollercoaster ride!

Kat Dubois was perfectly happy running her tattoo shop and reading her cards. That all went to hell in a hand basket when people started contracting a fatal illness. Kat realises this illness in man made. Kat has no time to waste, she must find a way to stop the progression on the illness before it takes its toll on both humans and immortals. The task will not be easy, her friends, family and foes are hell bent on stopping her. Great read🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌

The scale of justice has been played.

Just wow. This one was another hit. Out of the field home run. I continue to love and fawn over this series.

Nik. What can I say. I have a love/hate relationship with that guy. This book it was more of a hate lol.
The cascade virus took some interesting turns. I really wasn’t expecting so much to happen yet have it all be tied together.

Well off to the next one because these chronicles are binge worthy.

This series might be off putting when you first start it if you don't know anything about Egyptian mythology. They are well written and the characters are the most realistic I've read in a while. Underground explains a lot of the mythology, and still gives it a human feel. The author descriptions are realistic. She even let's her characters have flaws. They even get to be turds once in a while! Great book and great series!

I don't really write reviews. I just really felt the need to make a note on this book.

Reading about the fictional Cascade Virus outbreak and pandemic in this book while living the Covid-19 pandemic is a bit surreal. I had to go back and check the Copyright year a few times. Because of this, and because some people might come out of our current real world struggles with some sort of PTSD-like trigger reaction, do keep that in mind.

Holy wow!

Oh my goodness! I think these books just keep getting better and better. When I tell you I literally had goose bumps. I love how the story moves along with every book, it's always ended without leaving you hanging but you want to grab the next one to stay in the world. I love Kat I love what the Lindsey's have done with their story. One of the best series I have read in a very long time.

Wow!

This book has plenty of action and angst because, hello, trying to save not just the world, but the universe? The ending sure left plenty of loose threads for the next in the series, which is going to get very interesting, I'm sure, what with an all-powerful entity with unknown motives having secured Kat's promise to free it, and the decision for Kat's species to make itself known to humans in the most public way possible.

OMG....that ending

I wanted to throw my phone on the last page. Talk about a cliff hanger. This book was AMAZING!!!! This book is chuck full of so many developments to is CRAZY!! This whole series is mind blowing detailed and steeped in lore you almost have to question how real some of the facts are...provided you are not already versed in Egyptian mythology. Start of the begining and thoroughly enjoy every page....

Did not disappoint.

Another great story in the life of Kat. Ms Fairleigh has a knack for building suspense and the throwing in an unexpected twist at the end. The only negative I could even think of is that they need to be a lot longer. Hopefully the next episode actually does come out this summer.

Fan girl screaming and jumping!

Wow that was an amazing ending! I love how we continue to learn more about the bookverse's reality and it is more complex each time.
I didn't expect the "cure" at all. I'm also extremely curious about Aaru and Isfet (I believe that's correct).
Spoilers: ha I knew I was right about Kat and Garth not being a good couple.

Wow - how does Lindsey improve so much from one book to the next?

Loved this addition to the series. The whole plot and the journey that Kat takes us on is dreamlike: beautiful, uncanny and terrifying, all at once. Love that we have characters from the Echo Trilogy involved in this series too but the focus is on Kat and her world.

She is more than what her people think she is?

Kat is coming into her powers and she maybe the only one who can save humanity. But to stop the shadow Senate they might have to become known to humans, she also needs to complete Isfet. Cliff hanger for book4.

Kat Dubois cares about humanity. After the Virus is released so many human will die and she has to make everyone who is ill into immortal Nejerets. But her tarot cards lead her to other options and she has to fight Nick, lose her cop and try her best to stay true to herself and her kind.

Good, but felt cheated

This was short. If Book 4 isn’t a reasonable length, then the author broke them apart when she shouldn’t have for more $$$. Hoping the next one doesn’t put a poor taste in my mouth.
