"She had a IQ of 77 and a .38 caliber gun." - a Caddo Parish Detective It was New Year's Day in 2003 when retired pastor Julian Brandon heard a knock on his door in Blanchard, Louisiana. He opened it to find the villainous duo of Brandy Holmes and Robert Coleman who “bum rushed” the 70-year old man, forcing their way in. The couple shot the minister and began ransacking his home. His wife, Alice, tried hiding in the back bedroom but Brandy and Coleman followed her, demanding valuables before shooting her. They then stole whatever they could out of the home; cash, credit cards, and jewelry. Brandy would only be captured after she bragged to one of her neighbors that she killed an elderly couple. She would be sentenced to death but would blame being born with fetal alcohol syndrome for her behavior. By doing this, she could avoid personal responsibility, as her life was filled with murder and mayhem. “I was named after my mother's favorite drink,” she said. “Brandy.” Born out of a childhood of neglect and growing anger, Brandy Holmes would become one of the most vicious killers in Louisiana history.
I guess in some way all the killers with the exception of one could be considered as "retards". This is a quick read true crime anthology book with no pics and dubious editing but I read it for free so that's ok. It does contain information on some obscure crimes as well as those better known so that's why I gave it three stars.
Strange writing style. I had to make myself stay focused. Many grammatical errors. I wish I had checked it out instead of buying it. Will not recommend it to friends or family.
Blaming fetal alcohol syndrome as a defense, Brandy Holmes, with an IQ of 77, was a vicious child. Schools didn't want her, juvenile detention facilities didn't want her and, unsupervised by her alcoholic mother, she roamed the streets with her boyfriend committing robberies
She crossed the line to murder when the pair forced their way into the home of an elderly couple in order to rob and kill them. She also shot and killed a friend who was riding in the car with them, just for the adrenaline rush.
The bonus story is about Myra Hindley, interesting but I've already read it.
A lot of errors. Misleading title due to the fact that in order to be diagnosed retarded, a person have an IQ of 69 or below. Certainly, she is below average intelligence but by no means a retard.
