Watch Out!

This book is so funny you‛ll probably pee your pants laughing. It‛s bonkers and barmy but blooming brilliant.

There‛s no need to tell you what it‛s about because you can probably guess. (There are these cats, right? And they‛re, like, on the run.)

But you should prepare yourself for kidnappings, stolen taxis, exploding old ladies, and witches with farts so toxic they bring down big trees.

In fact, Cats on the Run is such a riveting, rollicking, rip-roaring romp that you should probably wear a helmet when reading it.

And don’t forget a spare pair of pants!

Cats On The Run (Tuck & Ginger, #1) by Ged Gillmore, narrated by Deborah Wiseman, is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary. I can't say I peed myself laughing but it is a funny book. It starts out with a slow intro but don't go away. Then it gets better and better and better. The longer the book, the funnier it is! Although this is a kids book, I must say I did giggle, smirk, smile a lot, and I did laugh out loud at the narrator's crazy talented voices!
Let me start at the beginning...the narrator not only tells the story but speaks to the reader, and in a very hilarious way at time, quizing and gibbing them. The narrator is a hoot! She has so many voices and they are totally awesome! She must do a dozen and they are histerically funny. Anyway, two cats are held by witches for a spell. A smart cat and a dumb but athletic cat. Now this smart cat had previously been driving a cab when she was catnapped. Yep, it is that kind of story! They escape...and off goes the story! The man and woman witches are after them. The have stinky farts when they get excited too. That happens often and of course the cats don't like it but the witches do. There is so many crazy tidbits of silliness in here kids will giggle about. It does have a good plot, great characters, even the minor ones are very played up, and the story is quite fun. I really didn't think I was going to like the book as much as I did when it first started playing but the longer it played, the more I liked it. Like I said, the further in the book it got, the funnier it became. If I found it fun, kids are going to love it!
The narrator needs her own review! I giggled many a times when she started a new voice, what talent! It was worth it just to hear her do the voices! I don't think I would want to read the book now that I know how well she does the book. I would suggest the audible to anyone that wants to read this book!
This is a clever, witty, and very talented book and I enjoyed it as I am sure many kids will too!

Oh Moon, Oh Moon! A comedic ROFLMAO cat tail Tale
Audiobook review, reposted here:

Ged Gillmore's Cats on the Run teamed up with nouveau narrator Deborah Wiseman (no other books are listed under her name during a search) for the funniest story, with its "in your face" ... erm "in your ear" interactive dialogues.
I usually don't care for authors talking to the readers. Had I picked up the ebook, I may have shelved it into my TBR. But Ms Wiseman talked me into curling up with my kitten and giggle.
Tuck and Ginger have an adventure of a lifetime and I certainly wouldn't want them to persuade my kitten to go out into the world! (But if he does, can I hire those two to chaperone?)
An entertaining book, with a narrator who is equally lively. The combination invites the reader to leave the world behind, laugh out loud, and talk back to answer questions (audience participation is encouraged!!).
Listen to the book.
I callenge you to not break a smile, bust a gut... or not repeat (*insert text here*) or crow Oh Moon! Oh Moon in the exact off key chords ... I bet you rewind just to hear it again!

Would you listen to Cats on the Run again? Why?
I Love LOve LOVe LOVE LOVE this audio. It's completely on my very short list (I could count this list on one hand) I would listen to sporadically throughout the year.
Oh, yeah. To make sure no one tries to TDO you for a psychological evaluation, listen to this discreetly and while alone ... Voice inflections of the crones and your reactions throughout the book might save your sanity, but others may question it an impromptu interruption occurs.
If you can't tell; highly recommending this exaggerated performance (imagine how the Seinfeld cast or Jim Carrey 'body performs' their roles). If I could, I'd gift everyone this book!!
On the downside, I'm not sure if another book will receive all 5 stars after this ...

I review all books I listen to or read, but am required to add this:
"I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."

It strikes me that there doesn't seem to be a explanation for the stars that are given. So I thought I'd start giving my take on it.
1 horrible no redeeming qualities. So far I've never given a 1.
2 blah but there are redeeming qualities.
3 ok worth reading.
4 great but there's something off.
5 loved it.

So now about this story. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a kids book, but I'd call it a everyone book. A great beginning for a series, I can't wait for more of this series, I want to say more about this story but I absolutely hate spoilers, so I won't do it to you by going into details.
The narrator brings the story to life.
Reasons I enjoyed this audio book:
Wonderful characters, Page-turner, Great world building, Unpredictable, Original, Easy-to-read/listen, Entertaining, Action-packed, Twisted, Funny, Whimsical.
Bookshelves/tags:
alternatively-reality, cats, childrens, dogs, fantasy, favorite, humorous, kidnap, magic, nonhuman, series, teens, witch, young-adult.
This Audio book was given to me at my request from the publisher, author or narrator and I provided this unbiased voluntary review.

***Light Cursing & Some Indirect Politics***

Cats On the Run is what you get when one combines Roald Dahl's Witches with today's bodily functioned humor reads directed towards young readers. The story was decent, its humor not so much and the story shared from multiple POVs as various characters were added to the mix. Furthermore different expressions were combined in, usually in bold font for dramatic effect.

The cast of characters slightly fluctuated with some a bit more represented than others although crude and annoying seemed to be hit right on the head. Other included characters also had strange personas like a gentrified family of bunnies who took the cats under their roof, which is almost guaranteed death in any other situation.

All in all it was pretty decent for what it was as a generic young adult's read but one that I wouldn't have picked up otherwise if it hadn't been for the cyber.

This has been a long year of heavy news, isolation and what seems to be endless despair in the world. I didn't know how much I needed to laugh until I found this book on Kobo. I was hunting for true stories of undercover cops - and came across the sequel to "Cats on the Run", "Cats Undercover". I decided to start with the first book.

If you, like I did, need a laugh most desperately, pick this one up. I haven't read through a book within 24 hours in years, but I did with this one. Tuck and Ginger are hilarious, endearing and as catty as any feline I have ever met (and I have four cats of my own). This book was a wonderful escape from everything 2020 has been, and I am looking forward to the sequel. Thank you, Ged Gillmore, for the endless laughs and adventures in this book, for lighting up the world with Tuck and Ginger.

This review is for the audiobook version of Cats on the Run: Tuck & Ginger, written by Ged Gillmore and narrated by Deborah Wiseman.

Cats is a silly book but in a good, way. It's listed as for 8-10-year-olds which I think is appropriate. It's got some mild potty humor (if fart jokes offend you, then by all means pass), but nothing I couldn't listen to with all of my kids (ages 7-14).

Deborah Wiseman does a fine job with the narration. She sounds well suited to children's books. All the voices felt unique and her characters were distinguishable one from another.

Overall, I'd give the book between 3 and 3.5 stars out of 5.

Bought this book to read aloud to my almost 11-year-old daughter. We both laughed a lot and plan to buy the next Tuck and Ginger book as well.

I do have one complaint though. ...I enjoy the author's style of writing for the most part, but the frequent cut-offs in the middle of words during dialogue makes it difficult to read aloud. And honestly, is quite annoying! Other than that, there's great humor, a bit of dry wit, and some absolute ridiculous shenanigans. Overall, it's a great book.

As promised, this book made me laugh out loud. (I didn't need fresh pants). This is a light-hearted, funny well-written book. I will definitely add it to my library and read it again.

Excellent fun for children with a cunning balance of language that lets an adult make it a bit of a spectacle or something a more precocious child might read themselves. Two cats get into a mess of their own making and hilarity ensues.
