Jes Delaney’s story from Leftover Girl continues after months of fighting to recover her memory. She’s no closer to learning the truth about what happened the night she ran away, or to finding Chase. When someone discovers the articles from New York, lies begin to pile up as Jes must keep everyone in the dark or risk disappearing again.
She finds an odd ally in Pade, who came home distant and broken. Something happened in Colorado to change him, but Jes holds back because he’ll never understand her secrets. She still dreams about the gunshot, but now her hands are soaked in blood. Jes wonders why Chase hasn’t returned and if her parents will ever forgive her for hiding that she wasn’t born on Earth.
C.C. Bolick is an engineer by day and author by night. With twenty books and more to come, she loves writing complex plots and twists the reader won’t see coming. Her books share a common thread – mystery. Anything else is game including sci-fi, paranormal, and romance.
Since her young adult books are set in the same universe, characters will cross between the series.
Mountain Girl, pi is a new cozy mystery series. Marilyn is a small-town college student who must turn sleuth to solve a murder and save her best friend.

Jes is a teenage alien living among humans. She’s still unsure what happened the night she ran away. All she knows is that her brother Chase is missing and he’s trying to reach her in her dreams. But where is he? Can she get to him in time or will her bloody dreams come true? In order to save her loved ones, she lies to protect them. She feels so alone yet finds some comfort with Pade. Can she confide in him her dark secret and if so, will he just laugh in her face? One thing’s for sure, her memory is slowing coming back and she’s not sure she can handle the truth.
Secrets Return is book two in the Leftover Girl series and it answers many of the questions hanging in the wind from book one. It’s a gripping story with intense action, mystery and drama. The cruz of the story is Jes and what’s happening to her. Emotionally driven, the plot moves at a steady pace. Many returning characters from book one and there’s a few new ones too. The backstory of Jessica broke my heart and I just wanted to wrap my arms around her. Teenage suicide is portrayed honestly and well done.
The addition of Pade is where Bolick lost me. I didn’t see the need for him as a character plus he’s a total jerk. I’m still not sure what the point of him is but maybe it will come to me in the next book.
If you’re looking for a strong yet vulnerable heroine in a young adult science fiction series, pick this up today. I can’t wait for the next installment.
Favorite Character/Quote: Jes. The more I read of Jes, the more I grow attached to her. She’s discovering who she is and certain powers she possesses while also learning what it means to be an alien living among humans. Her emotions are real and honest which adds to the depth of her as a main character. I can’t wait to see where Bolick will lead her next.
Wow! I really wish the book hadn't ended. I guess that's when you know it was an Epic Read! I think I'm still stuck on all of the complex characters in this series. There were so many twists and turns that were unexpected. All great authors write like this. Not only was there several sweet teen romances, but a ton of issues they face daily. Bolick weaves such strength in her characters. I have a 16 year old girl who I'm going to let read this series. I'm dying to hear her take on it. I loved everything about Secrets Return.
This book is a sequel to the first book Leftover Girl which left the reader with a lot of questions. In this book, many of those questions are answered, and long-hidden secrets revealed. But still, new twists and turns come up in the plot. I really like Bollick's character development and the way she's developing the characters into complex characters. I also like how she continues the relationships that had begun to spring forth in the first book. And most of all, I like how Bollick finally does reveal some of the answers to the questions we had before. But surely this can't be the end of the story? I can't wait to find out what will happen next in book three. This is a great read!
I so love this story. I get caught up in it and its like I'm in the story. I also hate for it to end. I would recommend for everyone. Thank you for a wonderful book.

So I liked this book better than the first. I had a major issue with Pade. I thought he was a major jerk and hoped Jess was going to find a better love interest. Well that didn't happen...but Pade did seem not so sleazy in this book. I still don't care for him but I am interested in Jesse's new abilities and her new knowledge of the past to continue the story.
Finally the truth about Jes Delaney is coming to light. She is remembering more things about her past but this will be very dangerous. Golvern is a difficult planet with some issues that involves Jessie and her family and a lot of their people living in the Earth. Will Jessie be able to fight against all the danger? Looking forward to read more about Jessie’s adventures.
And they keep coming...the secrets and the lies. I think I actually like book two better than book one. I didn't buy the whole Joe thing but other than that I had not qualms with this installment of the Leftover Girl series. Jes's brother Collin tells her, "You always mess up our normal." Well she's not the only mess magnet in book two. Loved it!
The book is intriguing . Pretty interesting. I do have a lot of questions I want answers to but the chemistry between Jes and Pace is lacking. You get bits and pieces but no depth. They barley spoke last book and now they are in love. From crushing on each other to declaring loving each other. Didn't feel genuine.
Book two reveals Jes' history and has a few surprises for us along the way. I found book 2 to have fewer issues with editing, which made it easier to get into. I look forward to more books in the series.
I love this series. So many of the questions left from the first book “Leftover Girl” have been answered in this book. I didn’t want the book to end and luckily found out there’s another book! So I started reading it as soon as I finished this book. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have.
Secrets are finally being revealed although I am sure more will be revealed later too. Of course it leaves us hanging some. But the characters are finally getting to the point where I don't want to strangle or slap someone. I can't wait to see what happens next
The first book was ok but as book two progressed it became more and more silly. There was no transition for the changes in character behaviors. It just jumped from possible to absolute fantasy. Not planning to read anymore of series.
Teenage romance, misunderstandings, gossip, and lies. What more could a teen want who is unsure of how she is going to survive school.? Then you throw a couple of curve balls at her and expect her to manage.
Second book in the "Leftover Girl" series. Jess learns more about her powers, and learns more people on Earth rhan she have powers as well. Bailey and Pade's father comes into the picture a little bit more. Jess remembers a traumatic event, but nothing from before she was adopted other than that. And she meets her biological mother - again. And her brother, Chase, returns. Things heat up a bit more between Pade and Jess - whose name is not really Jess. Jess learns about her origins and gets a hint of what lies ahead. And there are 2 rebel groups, when until this, Jess didn't know there was even one...and they're on, but not of, this planet. Things are heating up fast. And Jess learns why Bailey and Pade went to be with their dad for half a year. Well written, fast paced when needed, even at other times. Intense in many ways throughout. Well written. On to book 3.
I love this series! So many twists and turns. Cannot Wait for the next book.
The character development is awesome! Jes discovers that she is not who she thought she was. She discovers she has a twin brother who is from another planet. Bailey, Pade, Jes, and Chase are so close and find out they are all from the same planet!
So good......
