Born in Brazil, at 17 he became a citizen of the world — moving first to Costa Rica, then to the United States, and later to countries across Europe and Latin America. His deep cultural ties with the Americas began even earlier, at 12, when American Peace Corps Volunteer Ann Iodice Hoskins arrived in his small town and taught him English. That encounter planted a lifelong passion: to write people's life stories, and to help them write those stories themselves.
Writer, journalist, scholar, coach, and independent international author, Edvaldo has authored 30 books — and counting. His work spans narrative non-fiction, biography, memoir, the profile, the personal essay, and what he coined the narrative portrait — always in service of one conviction: that storytelling is one of the most transformative forces in human life. His books are for readers who believe that real lives, honestly told, carry the power to inspire each of us toward our own personal journeys and a higher evolution of human consciousness.
At the heart of his work as a writing teacher and coach is Escrita Total — the Total Writing method, now the subject of its own book: Total Writing: A Transdisciplinary Method for Creative Writing with Soul, Purpose and Pleasure. Designed to unlock each person's spontaneous inner writer, the method holds what he believes may be particular power for ESL — English as a Second Language — writers: non-native English speakers who carry vital stories inside them and need not a grammar lesson, but a method that meets them at the level of their voice, their truth, and their creative soul. He has guided writers in Brazil and is now taking the method to the world: in 2025 he worked with his first U.S.-based client, whose book is already published and reaching readers in the English-speaking world, with a French edition on the way. Total Writing is available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
His newest initiative is the Awakening Drive narrative series — three books a year, each a portrait of a real person, distinguished or anonymous, who is making a difference precisely by traveling their own journey of transformation.
The first book, Lifting Together the Veil of Isis, introduces two Brazilian medical doctors — Cynthia and Arnaldo — whose lives as spiritual educators have propelled them into an epic adventure across Brazil, Mexico, the United States, and Peru, journeying through shamanism, the teachings of Osho, A Course in Miracles, and The Way of Mastery. It is also a story of love and consciousness: together for over 40 years, this couple embodies a model of relationship in which possession and emotional dependency give way to an enlightened love that honors individual growth and shared becoming. The series is published simultaneously in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, reaching readers across three continents from the moment of release.
Holding a PhD from the University of São Paulo (USP) and a postdoctoral fellowship from the University of Toronto (U of T), Edvaldo brings academic rigor to work that is, at its heart, deeply human. His guiding star is to illuminate the lives of those making a difference by embracing their own journeys of self-discovery — inspiring all of us to grow toward a higher state of being, as brothers and sisters of a single, gloriously diverse tribe: the human race, living the extraordinary experience of Life on this beautiful blue planet.
