Horror classics contains seven disturbing but intriguing mini stories: 1. Mimic (American)- An injured war veteran's son gets bit by a gruesome, and tortured soul found lurking in the shadows. Taken to the hospital, rabies or infection are expected, but feces, vomit, and crawling on walls sort of leads his parents to believe its a possession. Cure? Invoke the help of another hellish creature. 2. Solid Ben- Psych ward patient is disturbed by another patient/creature/thing 3. Mimic (African)- An individual's promise to a demon is now affecting a man's bloodline dating back to the 1700s. 4. Mongrel- A boy trying to find his father, does the mistake of trusting a seemingly nice woman to take him. 5. It lives- Three men stumble upon a ship after a storm. Even though the crew was slaughtered, they take a metal chest, and similar to Pandora, evil ensues. 6. Pig Lady - Mother of twins tries to scare her boys with a 'true' story of a forbidden hospital nursery 7. Suspect - 'Whodunnit' murder mystery that explains reasoning behind a murder and a connection with suspects and witnesses
Each story was extremely detailed, incorporating each sense in the descriptions, and you really felt the fear and horror of her characters. The author was able to create seven different worlds within a small amount of pages.
If you're a fan of quick 'penny dreadful' like stories, demon possessions, cannibals, and psychos, this anthology is for you.
Angel Berry's "Horror Classics" is a collection of short stories delving into the macabre, the mysterious, and the magical. Some of the stories work better than others and, in particular, I found the first story about a demon possessing a young boy and a families struggles with coping with it a strong story. Angel's stories are not just about scaring you, but reflections on family, friends, and society. At times her stories get muddled and confusing, but overall this is a strong collection of stories. My biggest grip might be the rather pedestrian title "Horror Classics". I think she could think of a more intriguing title than that.
Horror Classics is a collection of seven short stories. Some of them are more disturbing than others but all of them are interesting and believable. I really liked the endings. They are open so you can imagine what happens next. It’s tricky to end a story that way because sometimes you can feel something is missing. Here it’s not like that, it’s actually great. The stories are really detailed so you can imagine everything and even feel like you’re there.
This collection of short horror and mystery stories is surprisingly inventive and refreshing. Some may leave you imagining what could happen next but I believe that's the point. This is a great collection for those who like to walk away with their own interpretations.
