Although no book is life-changing in and of itself (books are only as good as the change they inspire in you AFTER you've read them), some books have much more potential to be life-changing than others. And very, very near the top of my list of books like that, is this one. It is absolutely amazing and you NEED to read it! Andy has a uncanny ability to explain things in a clear, concise and highly motivating way that will light a fire under you and give you exactly what you need to take your life to the next level. Everyone should own a copy of this book, read it, do the exercises, and reread it whenever you need some motivation to get back on track.

Favorite Quote: Basically the whole book. But one that really stuck out...
"Decisions are an outward expression of our thinking...You are where you are because of how you think...We are often tempted to think, 'Well, this is not my fault.' The words 'It's not my fault' should never again come from your mouth! They have been symbolically written on the gravestones of unsuccessful people ever since Adam and Eve took the first bit of that apple."

I enjoyed this book. It's not filled with overly simplified self-affirmation platitudes. I had to admit that I could do better in my own life with each of these principles. Once I strengthened by resolve... slowly my life began to change for the better. I was able to regain control simply by remembering these seven principles. I have re-read this book at least twice and it is welcomed addition to my list of favorites.

The seven principles (or decisions) are:
1. The Responsible Decision (the buck stops here…take responsibility for your own life and decisions).
2. The Guided Decision (seeking lifelong learning and wisdom)
3. The Active Decision (become a person of action)
4. The Certain Decision (have a decided heart)
5. The Joyful Decision (choose to be happy every day)
6. The Compassionate Decision (choose to forgive)
7. The Persistent Decision (choose to persist without exception)

This is a must read! I love andy Andrew's books but this is by far my favorite. I checked it out from the library and when I was done I acquired my very own copy to write in and highlight. If you follow the seven decisions it will be the key to your personal success.

A rare combination of both inspirational and practical wisdom in one book. Enjoyed it a lot and plan to re-read on regular basis.

I listened to this one. The author reads it. Clearly he is an accomplished public speaker because he made this book very enjoyable to listen to. I actually have checked this book out more than once just to go through some of the writing exercises.
I very much enjoyed him. He does have a religious spin to things, but it's not overbearing and the lessons here are presented in a way that they are not dependent upon the religious aspects.
I will continue to work through these exercises as soon as I get the book back.

Super quick read (not for lack of pages...but simply for the fact that it is super engaging). I was given this book to read by my new boss at my job, and I must say it didn’t disappoint. Learned a lot and lit a fire under my behind to get moving on the dreams God gave me! Would definitely read again.

One of the best books I’ve read in a long, long time! The concept is quite simple and easy enough to follow and incorporate into daily living.

I fell in love with the writing style of Andy Andrews immediately and found myself savoring the opening montage of each new decision, reading and re-reading the passage and lingering on thoughts like this one from The Guided Decision:

“Knowing that wisdom waits to be gathered, I will actively search her out. My past can never be changed, but I can change the future by changing my actions today! I will train my eyes and ears to read and listen to books and recordings that bring positive changes in my personal relationships and a greater understanding of my fellow man. No longer will I bombard my mind with materials that feed my doubts and fears. I will read and listen only to that which increases my belief in myself and my future.”

“I will seek wisdom. I will listen to the counsel of wise men.”

“The words of a wise man are like raindrops on dry ground. They are precious and quickly used for immediate results. Only the blade of grass that catches a raindrop will prosper and grow. The person who ignores wise counsel is like the blade of grass untouched by rain- soon to wither and die.”

There aren't many new concepts in the book. All seven decisions are simple. For me, it's the second one, the guide decision, that inspires me most.

What is a true friend to you?

More than 80 percent of the time, I hear, “A true friend is someone who accepts me as I am.”

My friend, this is dangerous garbage to believe. A true friend is someone who accepts you as you are? The kid who works the drive-thru at your local fast-food restaurant accepts you as you are—because he doesn’t care anything about you. A true friend holds you to a higher standard—he or she expects you to do what you said you were going to do, when you said you were going to do it. A true friend makes you better by his or her presence.

Actions for the next couple of years: building a supportive inner circle and a board of directors.

The Seven Decisions: Understanding the Keys to Personal Success by Andy Andrews is a clear, motivating, and highly practical guide to creating lasting change. What makes this book stand out is how simple yet powerful the seven decisions are; each one feels achievable, yet life-shaping when applied consistently. Andrews’ writing is engaging and encouraging, never heavy or preachy, which makes the lessons easy to absorb and put into action.
I especially appreciated how the principles apply to every area of life relationships, parenting, leadership, finances, and personal growth. The book doesn’t just inspire you to think differently; it pushes you to act differently. It’s the kind of book you can return to again and again when you need direction or a reset. Uplifting, practical, and genuinely empowering, this is a must-read for anyone serious about personal success and growth.

This is another good Andy Andrews book. It is basically a follow-up to "The Travelers Gift" which fleshes out the seven decisions mentioned in the book, one by each of the historical figures visited by the main character. This book goes in depth on each of the decisions. It does repeat some of the stories told in that book (and others by the author). You can even dig deeper if you wish with several journaling exercises. The book is good and practical but I enjoyed "The Travelers Gift" much more than this one as I enjoyed the stories which led to the seven decisions more than the "down in the weeds" approach to this book. I would still highly recommend this book and I still plan on reading more Andy Andrews books.

In my quest to learn about things outside my comfort zone, I stumbled upon this book. The book is aimed to a christian American public trying to make the best of their lives coming from a bad situation and, some of the ideas are a bit too libertarian for my taste. But beyond that, I think there are some interesting points, the list of personal decisions distill a nice set of reflections to do upon oneself (although it has it's own set of contradictions, e.g. wisdom from the board vs persistence). And as the book states, the book is nothing without your work there.
So, it does make you think about yourself, even if you are away from the target of the book, that's as good as it gets from a self help book, I'd say.

A client told me her and her colleagues were reading this together, so I wanted to read it too. Nothing new as far as content for me. Pretty basic self-development type advice. But it's a good pile of rules to live by.
I got a little bored and couldn't stay focused, so I may come back to it in the future when I want to give it more attention.
My biggest takeaway this time around is to take full responsibility, always. Forgiveness is radically important. Forgive others and yourself and ask for forgiveness when needed. Also, everything we do or don't do has a domino effect, so choose wisely and be a good human.

I’ve read a few of Andy’s books (the Noticer and travellers gift)

I think the Noticer is my favourite read all three books are essentially repackaging the same material. I love the narrative in the Noticer, but the seven decisions is more of a text book type of read, explaining and detailing the principles that are laid out in more narrative form in both the travellers gift and the noticer. Very worthwhile to get a better understanding of the seven decisions that guide the other books.
Love all of Andy’s books, such a good story teller. Wisdom comes off every page and they’re fun to read.

Life changing

This is the best motivational book I have ever read . This book is life-changing . If you only get one thing out of reading this book , it is be happy ! If you can be happy from the time you wake up in the morning until you go to bed and have a smile on your face while you're talking to people , this will change your life and how you think !
From this day forward I will always have a smile on my face, and be happy !

Generally, I enjoyed reading this book. I like readings stories about other people - even heavily edited versions to support a book's premise as it appears these are. It's a relief to read about the struggles of others and their ultimate successes. I don't generally like books in the "success" genre because they tend to focus on money, which this book does not. It is heavily biased in favor of male success stories, but it has some pretty good nuggets.

Map to success

Excellent book for leadership and success. Thought provoking journal activities that require thorough examination of where you're at, where you're heading and how to get there. I don't usually read books more than once but definitely will read through again. Next time want to read seven decisions slowly and methodically; really working through the journaling activities.

Good read, The Seven Decisions, was an interesting read and it does pay to follow the guidance of the journal entries. Do the homework and the reading will make you think and make you review your experiences and the decisions you make. The one item that we each control is how we act / react to each situation and each encounter we have in every day lie.

Worth the time for the read, it will make you think and will make you consider your seven decisions.

Nice book with examples. Need to make lots of notes and answer the questions. Allows us to reflect on our goals and applicable to varied areas of life.

It's also a book that can be reread and referred to on an ongoing basis.

Overall it's an interesting book and I plan to read it again sometime in the future!

If you’re not a fan of fiction, read this book. It’s the lessons from “The Traveler’s Gift” in a more traditional self-transformation book style. I personally find Traveler to be a better way to communicate this material—somewhat surprising given I’m not a huge fiction fan—but if you want it straight, this might be better for you.

Andy Andrews has established 7 decisions that will improve your life if you follow them. He asked many successful people what they did to succeed. Or he would ask what was their major failure in life that pushed them to success. There are many stories here that can instruct you to how to live a better life. It’s one of those books you need to reread often.

Words are cheap and this book has a lot of words. It's full of platitudes and statements of purpose, but lacks depth and actionable items. The author uses examples from history, but fails to acknowledge the issues surrounding universal application of his principles e.g. Christopher Columbus should not be used as a positive example of steadfastness in mind.

I read this book for myself and some self-improvement ideas. The book is structured into 7 values that would make up a successful person like joy or responsibility. The author does a great job putting words into action in the practices that he gives out, however, it is for an older audience. I found that some parts did not apply to me but of done correctly, it can be a very good book.

Great book! Very thought provoking and I would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a challenge in bettering themselves. Throughout the book, Andy provides applicable exercises that align directly with each subject/chapter that’s being discussed. There are numerous opportunities/areas for personal growth throughout this book. Will certainly be reading again and would highly recommend!
