⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2! The Chase, book 1 of 3. A whirlwind romance as Zara is swept off her feet by renowned art collector Tobias Wilder while a cat burglar strikes London!

“Still coming, his hips steadily rocked in and out in this leisurely pace prolonging our pleasure, those shoves of power his only focus as his gaze roamed over where his cock glided in a continuous rhythm.”

Books in The ICON trilogy should be read in order:
Book 1: The Chase
Book 2: The Game
Book 3: The Prize

The Chase (book 1) opens up to recent College graduate Zara Elizabeth Leighton embarking on her new career as an art forensic investigator. When she encounters American inventor, art collector and heir Tobias William Wilder, Toby she is smitten, intrigued and intimidated.

Zara is intent on redeeming her family name and steering clear of scandal, but instead she is quickly pulled into Tobias’ world of hot-cold seduction, excess, secrets, lust, greed, danger and vengeance. All while a sophisticated cat burglar is wreaking havoc on the art world casting suspicions all around.

“He sent my heart and mind reeling when he touched me, fucked me, controlled every aspect of my arousal to leave me breathless.”

Seven words to describe Tobias William Wilder, Toby: Enigmatic, possessive, aloof, mysterious, commanding, charismatic and unpredictable.

Seven words to describe Zara Elizabeth Leighton: Smart, reflective, curious, loyal, private, perceptive and strong.

The Chase, told from Zara’s POV, is a whirlwind affair high on mystery, suspense and consequence, centerstage a volatile Tobias Wilder. It ends as cryptically as it started leading right to book 2, The Game for the continuation of their story.

Intriguing plot! Enigmatic hero! A high-stakes game of stolen illusions, leveraged secrets and buried truths!

“My need for you is my greatest weakness.”

5+ Iconic Stars!
Intriguing, thrilling and deeply enjoyable. A sensational first book in a highly anticipated new trilogy!

The Review:
Beautifully crafted with eloquent writing and riveting storytelling, this book is going to the top of my reread pile! I have NEVER been disappointed in this author's work. She has an extraordinary knack for writing influential characters and passionate love stories that sizzle as well as deliver those wonderful “feels” that will flat out amaze you. This book is no different. With expressive writing and an impassioned narrative, I was captivated, consumed and thoroughly engaged from the first page to the very last. I didn’t want this one to end!!

Story/Characters...
Zara Leighton is newly employed at Huntly Pierre, London’s most reputable investigative art firm, as a forensic art specialist. Surrounding herself with her first and most impassioned love, she’s excited to toil her days debunking or validating remarkable works of art, fulfilling a lifelong dream and connecting to a personal part of her past she’s recently lost. She has suffered incredible tragedy in her life and trusting comes with its fair share of issues. Excited to start her career, her first day on the job is hit with excitement and temptation as the mysterious Tobias Wilder, a man she briefly met the night before and a man whose intensity and beauty instantly drew her to him, requests her participation on authenticating a confidential piece of art he’s interested in.

Tobias is a billionaire, philanthropist and he’s notorious for his exclusivity. He’s a complete mystery with his own trust issues. Needing a painting validated, he takes Zara on the adventure of a lifetime that quickly turns to sensual delight as they find more than the beauty of art to tempt them. Danger, mystery and intrigue surround them, all the while a string of high valued art thefts has the attention of the Huntly Pierre team, including Zara, who grows more suspicious every day of the man she’s fast falling for.

Thoughts...
Zara was clever, alluring and a perfect heroine. She was smart, witty, sensual and open to new adventures. She was instantly caught up in Tobias’s hypnotic appeal, which produced exquisite chemistry and delicious erotic moments.

Tobias ... yum! It has to be said, he was just too enticing for words! I adore the way this author creates her male leads. They are always so mesmeric and seductive. Tobias was definitely intense, daring and provocative and I couldn’t blame Zara for falling hard and fast for him. And he was more than good looks and sexiness, too. He was closed off which only added to his mystery, but he was also affectionate, generous and he loved to live life, experiencing the finer things but also didn’t mind digging around in the dirt for benefit. He seems dark and utterly unattainable, but the more Zara gets to know him, the more reachable he becomes ... and the more questions arise. I loved that I couldn’t fully figure him out. He was so complex and you can’t help but crave to know more about this man.

The Wrap Up:
Reading a Vanessa Fewings book is always like receiving the most prestigious of gifts. I come out of it empowered, inspired and invigorated. And I always want more! When I got to the end of this book, I screamed out “NOOO!”, because I simply HAD to have more! If you one-click anything this year, it has to be The Chase!

Absolutely addicting! The Chase is a MUST READ! I couldn't put this down. I loved the mystery, romance, and history. As soon as I finished this book, I immediately opened up book 2.

Zara Leighton is a strong and intelligent woman skilled in authenticating paintings. She lives and breathes art. When a series of stolen paintings come to light, she is put on a team to catch the mysterious thief.

Tobias Wilder is an American billionaire that Zara can't stop thinking about. He is a brilliant inventor and businessman. He also shares Zara's love of art.

The attraction between the two is hot and steamy, so be sure to have a fan nearby. Tobias is a demanding alpha that knows how to get rough.

The plot kept me at the edge of my seat, and the characters were easy to fall in love with. Vanessa Fewings has created a perfect romance with a touch of beauty and elegance.

★5 Stars! The Chase... An intriguing, heart-racing and consuming read, a thrilling mystery, and a true masterpiece!
I hardly knew anything about Tobias and yet he was seducing me with the ease of a man who always got what he wanted.
“I tried not to get close to you.” His voice cracked with emotion. “My need for you is my greatest weakness. You’ve utterly destroyed me.”

I need to say this book BLEW ME AWAY! It's definitely on my TOP reads of the year list.

It has romance, mystery, angst, sexy scenes, everything I LOVE in books! I'm in love with Tobias! I'm a total History and Art buff, so I really really loved the background to the story. Plus it was very fresh and different from anything I've read.

And even though I figured out the mystery pretty early, the author still made me doubt myself until the very end, and I LOVED it!!!

Enjoyable read. The big reveal seemed insanely obvious to me from the beginning but still fun none the less. I liked how it was a nice mix of romance, mystery, and art history. I love art so hearing all the backstories to famous artists was great. I loved how sassy the female MC was. And the romance was intense. The only thing I didn't love was some of the eye roll worthy romantic banter. And some of the inner monologues were too "I love him sooooooooo much" for me. Curious about where the story is going to go so I'll probably try book 2.

Title: The Chase
Author: Vanessa Fewings

4 unexpected stars

When i grabbed The Chase by Vanessa Fewings, i knew it was part of a series. What i didn't know was which instalment it was. It turns out that it was the first book in her Icon Trilogy, taking art and heists to a whole new level. I'll admit that since my art skills are limited to stick figures, i enjoyed how Vanessa Fewings gave me a new perspective on what it could mean to anyone even if they don't have any special skills.

4 breath taking dreams

I liked the balance that this author created between each element in her story. There wasn't too much of one thing or too little of another. It's the kind of well rounded story that leaves you more than a little curious as to what's going to happen next in the series since The Chase just whet your appetit for more of what is to come and more of Zara and Tobias.

I have conflicted feelings about this book.

The atmosphere of museums, private collections, all these beautiful descriptions of famous paintings is inspiring, brining out the bright colours, making you want to see them with your own eyes. The love Zara has for art - unquestionable.

There wasn't any intrigue or suspense, it was obvious to me who Icon is from the first or the second chapter (no surprises there)

Moreover, Tobias Wilder seems like a dominating Neanderthal, who only cares about his opinion, making Zara forget that she too has a head on her shoulders and can make up her own mind with all that sex, using it like a tool

This book was different than I was expecting, but in a really great way. I think, at least for me, when you think of a book set in the art world, you expect them to be a little snooty and the characters were anything but...Tobias is really intense, in a way that keeps Zara, and everyone around him, on their toes. I loved it, I loved the twists and turns, and I loved the reveal, although I think there were enough clues that I wasn't surprised in the least. But, if you aren't paying attention, they are subtle, and you will miss them, if that makes any sense.

Zara and Tobias have a fantastic first meeting, and I loved this book from that point on. I loved that their first meeting wasn't perfect, it wasn't with unicorns and rainbows, but rather felt like a real life situation a number of us have been in....a slightly embarrassing moment that is then witnessed by someone else.

As this is the first book in a connected trilogy, there is a lot of time spent setting up the events, and the characters, so they are able to move through all of the books. But, it was balanced well with action, and scenes with Zara and Tobias that you felt like the story had momentum.

This is my first title by this author, who I initially heard of at a panel discussion and thought the books, and the idea behind them seemed interesting. I am definitely glad I requested this book and I am looking forward to the other 2 in the series.

I recommend this title.

The Chase (The ICON Trilogy #1) was my first book from Vanessa Fewings but it definitely won't be my last. This book wove together an interesting plot with a some twists and turns. I found myself at times looking up the artwork discussed in the book just so I could know what these characters were seeing-and I'll say I don't often research along with books while I'm reading so that was a fun little element.

Zara's profession is something I've never given much thought to before. I mean, I know positions like that have to exist in the real world but I was fascinated with it in this book. Zara is smart and witty and I really enjoyed her. I felt like I connected to her fairly well throughout the book. She's not perfect and I loved that. Tobias is sexy as all get out. Add some mystery to that sexiness and I was hooked. I wanted to know more about him and truly enjoyed every peek inside him. You can feel the electricity between these two which led to some great sexy scenes.

The writing in this book just flowed very well for me. I was engrossed in the story and loved all the twists and turns that the plot took. As I mentioned, I found myself researching as I read and that just added a whole other level of enjoyment to the book. It's a book rich in detail but not overwhelmingly so. The story was well crafted and I had moments where I gasped and moments where I sighed-which to me is a great balance.

The Chase is the first book in the Icon Trilogy and I'm very interested to see what this author has in store for the next two books. I look forward to more from Vanessa Fewings. I would recommend this book.

The Chase by Vanessa Fewings reminds me of The Thomas Crown Affair, one of my old time favorite movies. It's sexy and it's hot. It's got action and suspense. It's romantic and it's funny, and the thrill of the chase for Icon is simply incredible.

The Chase isn't just another "romance" story. It's an erotic thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat, I kid you not. The chemistry between Tobias and Zara is off the charts. Their banter is upbeat. As a couple, they draw the reader into their world.

Zara is young but not stupid. I love how she stands up for herself and lets Tobias have it when she thinks he's swindled her out of her most precious, priceless possessions.

Never before had I read a hero like Tobias (if you know me, you know I read a lot and have been reading for years). I think the whole inventor things suits him perfectly. That infamous tattoo he's got and its meaning ties in everything nicely.

Tobias is a bad guy for most, but he really isn't. All throughout the book, I kept wondering why he'd go to such lengths for art until he explains it. The bad boy has a heart bigger than some and I can totally understand Zara's struggle in reconciling his reasons with what's right and wrong in addition to how she feels about him.

The Chase by Vanessa Fewings is one of those books I want to tell everyone I know they must read. As I'm writing this, I'm wondering where Vanessa Fewings has been all my life and why is it that only now do I get to read her.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book (paperback) in a competition.

I'm a huge fan of Vanessa's and this certainly did not disappoint me in any way.

It reminds me sort of a sexy Da Vinci Code meets Enthral type book with plenty of drama, angst and wickedly good sexy bits. Vanessa's knowledge of the art world had me googling different paintings to try and picture just what paintings she was describing. I suggest you do this also, it makes you physically see what she sees.

The story centres around an art investigator Zara who has just landed a new job in a top firm in London. Her skills are required by the dashing millionaire Tobias Wilder and sparks fly between the two of them when they are together.

Zara is called in to investigate a number of stolen paintings and on further discovery, the truth that begins to uncover sends her reeling for more reasons than one.

This is the first book of a series of three, and I really hope this will be released in the UK soon.

When I read the blurb for The Chase I knew I needed to read it. It seemed to offer everything I loved: action, adventure, passion and a mystery that needed solving. And honestly, after reading it, I can say that this novel was absolutely brilliant! It was full of passion and suspense and was just perfect. Tobias and Zara were electrifying. I actually got goosebumps reading because I did not know how the story was going to play out but I knew for sure I did not want it to end!

From the get go I fell in love with Zara and Tobias. As a result of a deep and abiding love of art from her famous art collector father, Zara Leighton immerses herself in the art world. Ranked as a rising star in one of London's top art investigation firms, she has a talent for seeing deep into paintings and has chosen to help track down Icon, an enigmatic international art thief whose heists are methodical, daring, baffling. Along the way she meets elusive and eccentric Billionaire Tobias Wilder, a fellow art connoisseur/collector. From their initial meeting you could feel the electricity pinging off the pages between them. Their chemistry was combustible and their passion unrivaled. I loved how Fewings made it clear their was a genuine love between them but an even bigger amount of secrets. Who is Tobias Wilder and why is Zara drawn to his dark, daring and dangerous side?

GAH this book was so amazing. Tobias and Zara were just so sexy and passionate and I could not get enough! But I felt the real standout in this novel was the art, itself. I honestly have not felt this way about a book where I was driven to look up every painting described since Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code. I became obsessed. I needed to see what Zara and Tobias saw as I felt so deeply connected to the lush details and descriptions of each painting. I felt like I was standing right alongside them in the myriad of galleries throughout the book. All in all this was an AMAZING read and I cannot wait to read book two. Bravo! ~Ratula, 5 Stars!

I would like to thank Netgalley and Harlequin (US & Canada) for an advanced copy of this book for an honest review.

A very unusual start to this trilogy, I was really mesmerized by the storytelling. A tale that could be likened to having a hero who might just be a modern day Robin Hood and the woman who is caught up in his seemingly unstoppable pursuit to right certain wrongs.

Zara Leighton is the art surveyor who meets the very handsome, very dashing Tobias Wilder and is immediately caught off guard. Meeting accidentally more than once, their whirlwind affair is as unpredictable as the art heists that have rattled parts of Europe. While she tries with her fellow employees to help Interpol solve these rash of thefts, she is falling harder by the day for the man who seems to be as mysterious as he is sexy.

What a great beginning. I will admit I was a bit puzzled as to the nature of this book at first but once I hit the 20 percent mark, it was hard to put down. Vanessa Fewings is new to me and I enjoyed her attention to detail, the way she introduced timeless art to the reader and her mature style of writing. I read an arc and I appreciate that there will be typos etc. so hopefully that is fixed with the published version since it was rife with errors.

I will definitely continue and can't wait to see the next installment, taking our adventure from London to Paris.

A solid 4 stars!

I won this book from Vanessa Fewings Facebook page a few months back and am happy to be able to review it for you today. I always give an honest opinion using my own words.

Please note that this series is for mature audiences, with mature content.

This is the 4th book I’ve read from Vanessa Fewings and once again she delivers! The Chase is non-stop from start to finish.

One of the things I most enjoy when I read Vanessa Fewings is how strong and confident she makes each character. Every person is complex, just like in real life. Her writing style can make you forget you’re reading a book. Even when the character thinks less of themselves, you can see the potential they possess.

I wanted to be friends with Zara immediately, she’s smart, funny, and full of life. She doesn’t realize any of that about herself but those around her do, it’s no wonder Tobias is drawn to her from the first meeting.

Zara is fresh from college and itching to start her new career in a field that calls on her passions. Art is her true love, it’s the one major constant in her life. She’s working for a prestigious firm helping to try and catch the infamous ICON. She’s infatuated by this thief, she doesn’t know who he is but she’s eager to learn why he steals. What’s in it for him?

The thrill and suspense really drew me in with this book. You’re on edge and cautious of Tobias from the start but also intrigued. Is this rich, charismatic man really the mysterious ICON that is stealing priceless painting from unsuspecting, upper class families? Is he using Zara?

Zara’s past and present is shrouded in uncertainty once a painting thought lost in a fire resurfaces. How is it that this painting still exist? Did her father lie to her? Was her he not the person she believed him to be? Will it be authenticated and destroy her career and her reputation before she even has a chance to create one?

Why does Tobias want to help her? Why does she want to let him? Is he too good to be true?

My heart was pounding from chapter to chapter. Vanessa gives nothing away except what Zara is thinking and let me tell you, Zara has great intuition!

Tobias is definitely an Alpha male but also very aware of his more sensitive nature, he's this giant presence to Zara but I could also see how much time he spends in his head. His masculinity is stronger because of it. Does that make sense?

The chemistry between Zara and Tobias is electric. You can feel the sizzle coming off the pages. The emotion is palatable and infectious.

There are definitely some hot and heavy sex scenes so make sure the kiddos aren’t close by to catch any naughty words!

Wow! What a fabulous introduction to the Icon Trilogy! A secretive American Billionaire and an English Rose obsessed with Art. A Fabulous combination!

Tobias is a Billionaire who is an expert in technology and has a penchant for collecting rare and well sought after paintings that any avid collector would covet. He is rather elusive when it comes to revealing his personal life. He is charismatic and sexy but single.

Zara has grown up in the world of Art as her father was an enthusiastic collector. Her first love is Art! She has the rare talent of being able to see right through any painting. She makes them come alive. She has issues with commitments. For good reasons too!

Zara has a phobia which lands her into an uncompromising and embarrassing position. Thank goodness, no one else is around! Oops! To her horror, she finds herself facing a gorgeous face with the most sculptured and scrumptious body. Tobias! Way to meet this work of art for the first time. She is speechless and stares until reality sets in. The thoughts going through her head are rather hot! He, on the other hand appears to be amused. Shame that his thoughts are not obvious, since this is told in her POV. She makes a sharp exit at the first opportunity, only to bump into him again.

As she works as a forensic expert for one of the exclusive investigative art company, when Tobias needs the authentication of a piece of art, he enrols her for assistance and demands total confidentiality. When they arrive at the venue, saying that she is shocked is an understatement! Never mind, she is here to do a job and that's exactly what she is going to do. Quite impressive, despite the circumstances! Zara fully intends to go on her merry way once the job is done but, Tobias has other ideas.

She is working with her team on an investigation of multiple thefts of valuable art works. The clues they find are intriguing and the harder and deeper they dig, the more baffle they become. At the same time she starts a hot and passionate affair with Tobias. The attraction between them is sizzling and she learns a thing or two! She is introduced to a life of fun and luxury. Too good to be true?

Zara is competent and dedicated to her job. Tobias is just irresistible. He likes to be in control. He is kind and compassionate but finds it hard to open up. He has secrets! This story is in itself a piece of art. It's intricately painted, highlighting all the minute details which makes it a compelling read. I was completely captivated from the word go. I absolutely love the plot. Tobias and Zara are exceptional lead characters. The suspense at the end is killing me and I am soooo looking forward to read what comes next. Fabulous!

I received a complimentary eARC via NetGalley and the views expressed are my personal opinion.

Let the chase begin...

Vanessa Fewings takes us into an art world where high art is being stolen. The thief is known as Icon. Zara is an art forensic investigator at her new job and part of the team that's looking into Icon. While she's tracking him down, she meets the mysterious Tobias Wilder. Unable to resist his seductive charm, Zara starts a relationship with him. He has secrets and has her doing things out of her comfort zone. She finds herself in uncomfortable situations, but Tobias is always there for her. He appears at the right place and at the right time. As Zara is getting to know Tobias more, she starts to have suspicions. Then something comes out that could mean her downfall. As usual he's there for her, asking to trust him. Can she trust him, or is everything not what it seems?

"Tobias was an enigma I couldn't get enough of."

I fell in love with him and couldn't get enough. Tobias is a charismatic, dirty talking alpha. He has a mysterious allure that made me want to crack open. I wanted to know all of his secrets—what he was hiding. His magnetic pull was hard to resist. It's see to see why Zara couldn't either.

"I respected Tobias's time and he needed to respect mine. No matter how sexy that dominating tone of his was, I wasn't dropping my plans on a whim to please him."

I loved her strength. It was subtle, yet strong. She wouldn't let anyone push her around. There's something alluring about her. I could see why Tobias fell for her. Their chemistry was sizzling hot and passionate. These two made a great couple. I love the way Fewings wrote these two characters.

I couldn't put The Chase down. I was enthralled by it. Fewings storytelling and knowledge of the art is truly amazing. I even Google the paintings that were mentioned. I think the art background made the story much richer. Fewings took me on an art ride that I didn't want to get off from.

"We both knew we'd meet again. It was only a matter of when. "

Well I just read the crap out of this book.... started it this morning and literally couldn't put it down all day until I finished. I needed answers damn it! Vanessa Fewings has a way with contemporary romances that just pulls you in and keeps you reading. Her other series (Enthrall) is great - definitely check it out too : )

Our main characters... Zara is smart, witty and has an impressive knowledge of art. She just started a new job as a forensic art investigator and gets thrown into a mysterious case of missing art. She meets the charismatic, intelligent and also knowledgeable about art, Tobias, and their lives become entangled as they grow fond of each other. Not all is as it seems and the case becomes more and more interesting as Zara digs further to uncover the truth.

“Oh, Zara,” Tobias said, “you’re my woman now. This is where the fun starts.”

There is lots of "fun", swanky parties, museum visits and traveling around London in this book. It really holds your interest and keeps you guessing.

The romance, suspense, knowledge of art and the setting taking place in London kept me reading and wanting more. It's a wonderful first book to the series and I'm anxiously awaiting diving into the next book in the series; The Game. I can't wait to see where Vanessa takes Zara and Tobias's characters!

This is a new author to me and I am so glad I got the chance to read her work. First off she tells a wonderful riveting story that grabbed me from the beginning and I could not put the book down!! Her writing is top notch and I could not be more pleased with the art and historical part of this romance suspense.

I am in love with Tobias and this book has so much going on with angst, mystery, romance, art and sexy sexy scenes. I swear this book took all my favorite things and put them all into The Chase. I really don't want to talk much about the story line because I want you all to grab this book and be prepared to have your mind blown.

This is a book I will re-read and is one for my favs so far for 2017. I recommend this to anyone looking for a romance suspense with excellent characters and a riveting plot!!

The Chase is the first book that I have read by Vanessa Fewings. It won't be the last. Her writing style is smooth with solid character development and an intriguing plot.

Zara Leighton inherited her love of art from her father, a famous collector. She immerses her life in the art world. She is known as a rising star in the world of art investigation. When her firm involves her in investigating an art theft she meets the mysterious Tobias. The sparks fly between them and the secrets between them lay well below the surface. Will the secrets that they each harbor douse the flames of their chemistry or provide kindling to the flames?

She and other employee figure out the connection between the stolen paintings.
At the same time while she is getting to know Tobias, she sees clues he could be the thief of the paintings.
Will she fall for him or get proof he is the thief.

This is the first novel I have read by Vanessa Fewings. I had purchased her Entrall series, and I also had purchased book one in the Icon series. I accidentally opened the first book in the Icon series, instead of the Enthrall series. Wow! I am impressed. If you love art and know something about great painters, this story will intrigue you. If you just recognize famous painters, you will learn a lot about collecting art. The plot twists and is surprising. The relationship between the two main characters is sexy, funny and hot. I have now purchased the remainder of this series and have started book three.

The writing is mature, the research on collecting art and famous artists is integral to the plot. You learn as you read, which I enjoy. Lastly, the relationship between the main characters is hot, sexy, conflicted and yet sweet.

I highly recommend you buy the entire series. The reading order is The Chase, The Game, and The Prize. Once you finish book one, you will want to immediately start book two. I am now going to read her Enthrall series.

Please write more books, Ms. Fewings!

DNF...I got to page 68 and I could not get into this. You can tell that Fewings is a well educated woman by the way she writes because the discourse is strong. However, I became so bored of her descriptions of people’s clothing and just the art scene. The heroine comes off so strong which is awesome !Then, she turns to putty when he talks to her. I am sorry if I had a client who bought me dress and tried to whisk me away to assess a picture with lingerie to wear with that dress. You bet your a** I would be out the door and creeped out! Especially if I only had a like two 5 min conversations with the guy. Uh...I couldn’t deal. I had to back away ...maybe I am being cynical. If you like art and heck I don’t know other things...I couldn’t tell ya. I didn’t finish the book. Then maybe you would like this book and have better luck with it than I did.

Sublime ! Absolument extraordinaire !
