27 books78 followersPhanishwar Nath 'Renu' (4 March 1921 – 11 April 1977) was one of the most successful and influential writers of modern Hindi literature in the post-Premchand era. He is the author of Maila Anchal, which after Premchand's Godaan, is regarded as the most significant Hindi novel.
हिन्दी कथा-साहित्य को सांगीतिक भाषा से समृद्ध करनेवाले फणीश्वरनाथ रेणु का जन्म बिहार के पूर्णिया जिले के औराही हिंगना गाँव में 4 मार्च, 1921 को हुआ। लेखन और जीवन, दोनों में दमन और शोषण के विरुद्ध आजीवन संघर्ष के प्रतिबद्ध रेणु ने राजनीति में भी सक्रिय हिस्सेदारी की। 1942 के भारतीय स्वाधीनता-संग्राम में एक प्रमुख सेनानी की हैसियत से शामिल रहे। 1950 में नेपाली जनता को राणाशाही के दमन और अत्याचारों से मुक्ति दिलाने के लिए वहाँ की सशस्त्र क्रान्ति और राजनीति में सक्रिय योगदान। 1952-53 में दीर्घकालीन रोगग्रस्तता के बाद राजनीति की अपेक्षा साहित्य-सृजन की ओर अधिकाधिक झुकाव। 1954 में बहुचर्चित उपन्यास मैला आँचल का प्रकाशन। कथा-साहित्य के अतिरिक्त संस्मरण, रेखाचित्र और रिपोर्ताज़ आदि विधाओं में भी लिखा। व्यक्ति और कृतिकार, दोनों ही रूपों में अप्रतिम। जीवन की सांध्य वेला में राजनीतिक आन्दोलन से पुनः गहरा जुड़ाव। जे.पी. के साथ पुलिस दमन के शिकार हुए और जेल गए। सत्ता के दमनचक्र के विरोध में पद्मश्री लौटा दी।
मैला आँचल के अतिरिक्त आपके प्रमुख उपन्यास हैं: परती परिकथा और दीर्घतपा; ठुमरी, अगिनखोर, आदिम रात्रि की महक, एक श्रावणी दोपहरी की धूप तथा सम्पूर्ण कहानियाँ में कहानियाँ संकलित हैं। संस्मरणात्मक पुस्तकें हैं: ऋणजल धनजल, वन तुलसी की गन्ध, श्रुत-अश्रुत पूर्व। नेपाली क्रान्ति-कथा चर्चित रिपोर्ताज है।,

It's a set of short stories by one of Hindi literature's most influential authors, Phanishwar Nath 'Renu'. Reading this book was a pleasant experience but what stood out for me in almost all these stories was Renu's dialogue writing. His characters speak the Hindi which is heard in the North Indian villages. That was very refreshing for me. I researched a bit about him and learnt that he was known for promoting regional stories in his work. Now, I am all the more curious to read his other books.

रेणु जी की कुछ चुनिंदा कहानियों को ये संकलन बेहतरीन है। रेणु जी की आँचलिक भाषा पर पकड़ जगजाहिर है, साथ मे कुछ आधुनिक शैली की कहानियाँ भी हैं।
रेणु जी भूमिका मे कहते हैं ये कहानियाँ मेरी प्रिय हैं लेकिन इसका मतलब ये नही कि बाकी कि कहानियाँ मुझे अप्रिय है, या कम प्रिय है। हर कहानी मे मैं खुद को ढूंढता हूँ, अर्थात आदमी को ढूंढता हूँ।
आदमी ढूंढने के क्रम मे लिखी गई कहानियाँ आदमी ढूंढ़ने के ही क्रम मे पढ़ी जाए तो मानस पटल पर शानदार चित्र उभर के आएँगे।

What a beautiful collection of stories from one of the master wordsmiths of Hindi writing. The stories are varied. It includes the famous Maare Gaye Gulfam on which Shailendra made the beautiful film, Teesri Kasam. But this is not necessarily the best story in the collection, though perhaps the most popular.
What is specially attractive about these stories is that the rural and mufassil flavour of Bihar of the middle of the 20th century is so authentically preseved.
Highly recommended.

Renu ji's brilliance in bringing the regional ethos alive in his writing has no parallels. The sheer realism and effortlessness makes one feel as if stories are getting recited by a chulha in a farmer's dwelling in rural Bihar. However some of the non-rural, modernish stories are surprisingly good too. Delightful reading.

इन कहानियों को पढ़ कर ऐसा प्रतीत होता है मानों ये काल के चक्र से सर्वथा मुक्त रहने वाले हों। जितने प्रासंगिक ये आज से आधी शदि पहले रहे होंगे आज भी उतने ही नवीन नज़र आते हैं।
