Flightpath grabbed my attention at the blurb which sounded right up my street: a young, married couple coping with Air Force life and the deployments which come as part of that package. Plus it’s loosely linked to Cristin Harbor’s Titan series and I’m all for a bit more of Cash Garrison who also features.

description

Split into three sections—Before, Present and Epilogue, Seth and Madelyn take us on a journey spanning several years. And whilst there’s no question that Amber Addison can create endearing characters, the storyline structure didn’t work for me so much as, for the large part, readers are told rather than shown.

description The cup of love didn’t overflow...”

Granted it was more so in the first half, but major life events were covered in a couple of paragraphs and time jumps left me feeling I’d missed out, yet in the latter half when we were shown much more, Addison displayed a writing style I found myself enjoying, which in turn lifted this story up.

description I’ll be forever grateful for the flightpath we traveled to get us here, no matter the amount of bumps and bruises along the way.”

Whilst by no means a difficult read, Flightpath was let down by its shorter length: I understand the necessity for the story to be moved along at a quicker pace at certain points, but had certain aspects been elaborated on, it would have added depth and value all round and taken this from average to great. And whilst it may not have been the perfect read for me, the author has done enough to ensure I check out Kate and Matt’s story.

Wedding bells sound for young love, but being married to a military man has its downfalls as two young people learn when deployments and re-ups send Air Force Pararescue pilot, Seth Blaise into the middle of danger on a regular basis thousands of miles from home and his new bride, Maddie.

As Maddie struggles with a life spent alone, she tries to always understand why Seth is driven to help his country, but it is a bumpy road they travel. For anyone who has been a military spouse, this will be a tale of kinship as these two dodge the minefields of life, love and loneliness, as well as raising a family long distance. The highs, the lows and the constant fear that one day he may not come home.

Enamored of the life he leads, Seth feels invincible and when he finally realizes that his strength came from Maddie it is almost too late.

FLIGHTPATH by Amber Addison is like living in the hearts and minds of this young couple. Feel the love, the devotion, the fear and the frustration that runs throughout this love story. Laugh at the humorous times, choke up at the sad or frightening times and discover that the heroes are not always the ones on the battlefields, but ones left behind to wait. Sweet and spicy and beautifully written!

I received an ARC edition from Amber Addison in exchange for my honest review.

5 Amazing Stars

As a blogger, I'm privileged to read new authors all the time. It's so exciting to hear a new voice enter the arena I love so much. Quite often, they're good. Sometimes they're great... I am without words to describe how incredible this book is.

This book doesn't read like fiction, it reads like real life for the millions of military families out there today and the reality of deployment. It reminded me a lot of American Wife by Taya Kyle. This was truth in fiction. Flightpath had it all... The call to service deep within a person. The almost giddy enjoyment from learning your trade. The first loss of innocence when you see the destruction that man does to one another. The pain of loss and separation. The pride you feel wearing your country's uniform, or standing beside your family member who does. The disloyalty you sometimes feel wishing they could belong to you again, instead of sharing so much of them with the world.  The fear you feel every second they are away that they might not make it home again, or that when they do they won't be the same and the absolute relief you feel when they make it home to you again. This book captures it all!

Seth and Maddie were wonderful characters. There was enough cute, and love, between these two high-school sweethearts to cut through the harshness of their separations. Seth was a truly selfless hero, needing to answer the call to save lives on the battlefield. He was brave and strong but also tender and loving with his "Mads". Maddie, oh Maddie, she was a hero here at home. She was the wife that makes a home, makes it a place Seth fights to come home to, through her tears she raises a family largely on her own. Yes, the family also serves. Through every page I felt their love, their fear that they might not make it and their resolve to do it anyway.

These extraordinary men and women deploy to keep danger from our shores, so what do they do when it comes closer than they could ever imagine? They are the same badass heroes, as always but here they'll fight harder than they've ever known.

They say write what you know...Amber Addison wrote something that clearly poured directly from her heart. You can feel the truth in it. It's a wonderful testament to honor our heroes, those that serve us around the globe and those that keep the home fires burning. I love this book and can't wait to read the next story from this amazing author!

This was a short book but I definitely felt for the characters, and that's why I really enjoyed reading it.

However, this book had one of my worst pet peeves and it is the toddlers not acting like their age. istg I thought the little girl was like 5 years old or even older. Especially in a certain situation, I don't think a toddler would react like that.. but that's a personal thing, so If you enjoy reading about military families' life, I recommend checking this out!

When I first saw that half of the book was about the past and the other half was about the present, I became worried because a lot of things can happen in the past and mess with everything. I am also not a big fan of flashbacks and I wasn't sure how much i would like the book. Turns out that the past was my favorite part of the book. Seth and Maddie grow a lot on that part and we see some of the most important moments of their lives over the years. The second part happened really fast, like in the span of a few hours and later days, but it was good and it kept me on the edge of my seat. Basically, the whole book was to my liking and I was very satisfied with what I read. It's a short story, but it gave me some feels and that's the reason why I would recommend it. I am not familiar with the books this author has written, but I will keep an eye for her future releases and especially the second book in this series. I cannot wait for the next story!

You guys!! I adored this book it had me feeling all the emotions! This is a new favourite and I need more Amber Addison books stat!!!

Flightpath is the story of a married couple Maddie and Seth. Seth is a PJ and is in the military. These two have such a strong and beautiful relationship. From the first page you can tell how much these two care for each other and how much they need one another. I also really respect both of them, as it must be so hard for military families when one of the spouses is deployed. Both parts of the couple go through so much and I felt like Flightpath really showcased that well.

When the attack happens and Maddie's life is in danger Seth really steps up and I loved the emotions that came through the page and I almost teared up multiple times. Another time I almost teared up was the last chapter of the epilogue. The love that came through from Seth and Maddie not just for each other and their daughter but also their friends was beautiful and I did tear up at the last paragraph!

I honestly can't wait for Flying Blind which is Matt and Katie's story (Seth and Maddie's friends), and if Amber had more books out I would be reading them ASAP!! I also really loved Cash and I'm going to have to check him out in Cristin Harber's novels.

I loved it!! I devoured this book. I enjoyed the characters so much. They were both fierce, loving and loyal. Hearing both Maddie and Seth's struggle during their time apart was the key to this story. There is undeniable chemistry, love, and respect between these two. It was beautifully written. I'm looking forward to hearing Katie and Matt's story.

Brilliant

I loved every word of this book. I have laughed and cried, boy did I cry. Seth and Maddie are such a great couple, who endure so much. Love kept them strong. Guest appearance from Cash Garrison was the icing on the cake.

I fell a little in love with Maddie and Seth's story. The way their love grew, withstanding long separations, the danger of war and unexpected danger at home. Maddie and Seth's story shows how true love can overcome adversity. Thank you Amber, I hope we hear more of their story in the future.

Very well done!

Would have liked a little more Titan than just occasional mentions of Cash. How was Seth buddies with Cash without Roman being involved? Those two were stitched at the hip until Cash's HEA in Garrison's Creed. Even then, they are in each other's pockets when not with their women. A bit more Titan in this Titan World novella and it could have garnered a 5 star rating. Conversely, as a stand alone, without being Titan World, this story may have garnered a 5 star as well, based on the pure emotional impact.
The bulk of my review is based on the aforementioned emotional punch. There were some areas that could have benefited from additional editing, but not enough to detract from how the characters and their story makes you feel. OMG, the feels!
In the write what you know category, if this author hasn't lived the life, I would be surprised. At the very least, she conducted extremely in depth research.
As an USAF spouse of 23 years, married to my very own one and only, high school sweetheart, I can honestly say Amber Addison NAILED it. All of it. She called up all the thought processes, emotions, everything. I recommended that my husband read it, which he currently is, and he said from the active duty side, the author nailed it, as well. He said the couple in this story was us and it's true. The difference being we knew when we were dating he was career Air Force and would retire out.
Amber Addison was able to suck in the reader. A written virtual reality experience!
What Seth and Maddie experience is both heart wrenching and heart warming. I kept having to push away my mothering/mentoring instincts at times. At other times I felt the need to lock my husband and I in our room for a couple days, because she wrote some HOT love scenes that were both erotic and unbearably tender at times.
I loved that Seth and Maddie were written so true to life. Young and naive but knowing they were lucky to find their soul mate so young. Inexperienced and immature due to age, not personality. Neither were intentionally selfish or hurtful as I find too many characters to be, in romance books, as well as more and more often in reality. There were no intentional, convenient problems dropped into the story by the author. Just two kids madly in love, who grow up together, becoming two adults madly in love. The story progressed naturally, especially as pertains to military life. Military life is drastically different than civilian and what is normal in one is far different than the other.
Ms. Addison refrained from overdramatization of events. The birth of Olivia is something that maybe could have (should have?) been dramatized a little more. Having a baby born at 32 weeks with absolutely no medical issues is quite rare. Also, a preemie birth would have been worked by Seth's 1st Sergeant to delay his deployment. There's usually always a back up preparing for deployment along with the primaries, exactly for that reason. One never knows when an emergency will happen. The Air Force is really, really good at taking care of their airmen and families. Mission comes first, yes, but they will do everything they can to provide aid when and where possible.
Keep writing, Amber!

Seth and Madelyn Blaise always knew that they would be together. They just fit.
Married when Madelyn is just 19. The couple vow that whatever challenges life brings, they will face together.
But when Seth decides to pursue his dream of joining the Air Force and becoming part of their elite Pararescue Corps. Both their love and their bond are tested in ways that neither Seth nor his wife could ever imagine. Ways that you as the reader will never forget.

Seth and Madelyn Blaise's story is one the military families the world over live everyday. A story which speaks to the power of love, the value of service, and the strength of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Even when said adversity comes closer to home in an unimaginable way.

Flightpath is a love story through and through. But not just a love story in the romantic sense. This is a story about a man's love for his wife, his life, his baby, his country, his job, his service, and his world. It is the story of a wife and her love of her husband, her child, her family, her world...and all the things they both do to protect and cherish all that they each hold dear.

Following Seth's military career from it's start, through to its rather dramatic end. This heartwarming dual perspective read gives an up close and personal view of military life from both sides. With each side receiving equal weight within the read.
Readers can't help falling in love with this honest and forthright story of two people doing all they can to keep their relationship, lives, and love on course.

This is a love story that you will want to read again and again. Especially if you are a fan of movies like The Lucky One and An Officer And A Gentleman.

*Reviewer's Note: Bring tissues!!! You will definitely need them.
This book is part of a companion collection and may be read as a standalone.*

In Flightpath we follow the story of Seth and Madelyn and the struggles that being a military family can be.

Seth enlists after marrying Madelyn at 19. He feels like he's found his calling in being a PJ in the military and purpose in saving lives of brave men and women who serve their countries overseas.

Being left behind isn't easy for Maddie, though. She struggles with her worry for Seth, with how much she misses him and how incredibly hard being a military wife, a mom and your own person can be, all at once.

My thoughts: the story is well written and I could tell that Amber really poured her heart into this book. That being said, I wasn't able to really connect with the characters. I had a difficult time with how Madelyn dealt with her feelings of Seth being away, how she just accepted his decisions, even though they were hurting her. I also didn't like how Seth would make his decisions without talking it over with Madelyn first.

They're both young and doing their best to deal with a shitty situation and as the story goes on they both mature a lot.

I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys military love stories.

I'm told this is Amber Addison's debut book, but I don't believe it. I've read a lot of 'first books' and only a handful have been worthy of a 3/ 4 star review. Flightpath? A solid 5. The story is a well written, emotional rollercoaster. I adored Seth, I empathised with Maddie; I was rooting for them from the get go. It reads like either; a lot of research went into this book, or Amber has lived it/ known someone that has. The story focuses on the ups and downs a relationship has when one partner is in the military. It's a beautiful romance with a twist I didn't see coming. (I nearly always spot them...what is this?) If you have read Cristin Harber's Titan Group books, you'll love one of the supporting characters.

Flightpath is an emotional and empowering journey of a young couple's life - from the joy of falling in love and being married to ultimately have their love tested against all odds.

When the choice has to be made between serving his country or saving his only love, is love strong enough to withstand the time and distance? Or will it be her greatest sacrifice? And his ultimate loss?

The author achieved a huge something with this book, Maddie and Seth's story is as close to reality as a fiction could get. In the stories, the author expresses a gamut of emotions that continuously drew readers into each chapter, from joy and happiness to feeling hopeful and despair, Flightpath never fails to deliver the bitter truth of war and the struggles of a military wife on a day to day basis.

I love this book so much, simply because military wives deserve to have their stories told and the author did a FANTASTIC job of portraying them. What I also loved was Seth's appreciation and acknowledgement towards his wife's sacrifice. It's one thing to have an understanding wife, but it's also huge to have a husband who cherishes their wives. To me, that's what made this story so beautiful.

"...for the first time, maybe ever, I realize you've served alongside me. You've been there through every deployment, with a lot of the same fears as I have... You should be fed up, and instead, tell me you feel guilty for being glad I'm here to stay...It's nothing short of strong and amazing."

Flightpath was magnificent! A military romance that is one of it's kind.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC of this book generously provided by InkSlinger PR and the author. Thank you for the reviewing opportunity!

So I’m writing this a few days after reading but I wanted to get this review up!

I haven’t read many military romances but this one was really good. I don’t know much about the military period but it still intrigued me. I liked that this wasn’t your typical military man fall in love kind of romance, but the couple was already together from the start. The story was really about how a couple deals with being in the military and how the wife deals with being alone and figuring out what she wants to do with her life while her husband is away at war and how her husband deals with being at war.
I really liked this and would definitely recommend to anyone who likes military romance or if you just want to try something new!

Amber Addison's debut novel of love and the struggle of a military family is narrated by its own main characters. Amber brings us into Seth and Maddie's world in the most intimate way, telling their own stories through their thoughts and dialogue. Amber immediately pulls her readers in and holds them throughout the story, making them feel they are at home in Seth and Maddie's world.
This novel is part of the Titan World Series.
Congrats on a wonderful debut Amber !

This was my first book by Amber Addison, in my opinion it was pretty good. I thought she did a pretty good job of portraying what a military wife and husband go through. For me I felt the struggle of both Maddie and Seth. I think the dual points of view helped with that. I definitely liked Maddie more than Seth. To me he was to self absorbed and didn't talk to her about what he was going to do. I could feel Maddie pulling away. Overall all I thought this book was entertaining.

I enjoyed the book, it was a quick read and liked the arrangement of flipping between Seth and his wife's point of view. Kind of wished it had been a little longer with more details involving the airport scene but overall, well worth my time. I would recommend this book as part of the Titan World.

Amber WOWS with her debut Novella. This novel is set in the Titan world, but is a standalone story and can be  read without reading any of the other stories that take place in this world.

Now, lets talk about how fantastic this book was. Amber writing style flows and she builds each chapter with such detail that you can picture each screen in your mind without any fault. It gives the book that extra emotion kick.

These characters will sear themselves onto your heart and you won't be able to turn back. Writing that engulfs and emotion that flows over you while you read.

As a military wife, this novel hit harder than I think it would with other readers. You relate so much to Maddie that in the end you truly feel her paid as if it is your own. I found myself cheering for these characters and hoping they could heal together in the end.

It was a beautiful story that gives you that peek into the life of a military spouse. Bravo Amber!

Flightpath is Amber Addison’s contribution to the Titan World series, a collection of 11 stories, written by 11 different authors, all with a connection to Cristin Harber’s Titan series. Since I really love the Titan series, I’ve committed to reading each of the 11 stories, even though some of them may not be in genres I would usually read. This story though, was right up my alley!

Maddie and Seth are a young, married couple who face the expected trials of any military family. There wasn’t really anything all that unique about this couple, except that they are completely unapologetic for getting married at the age of 19, and unabashed in their love for each other. And while they may be young, I was pleased the author portrayed these young people as being mature - they faced trials and had conflict, but there wasn’t any figurative foot stomping or door slamming. This was refreshing to read.

At 149 pages, I was surprised how well the author packed in a good amount of character and plot development. The book is divided into “Past” and “Present” sections. The thing I found interesting is that the “Past” section was written almost completely as a narrative - there was very little dialog. Usually, good dialog is very important to me. But what I discovered is that maybe good dialog isn’t as critical to good writing as I originally though; what will kill a book for me, though, is bad dialog (ie when characters speak in a way normal people don’t speak). Thankfully, when the dialog did become more prevalent in the “Present” section, it was just as good as the narrative parts.

For a debut author, I’m impressed. There were some minor editing/proofreading errors, but for the most part, Ms. Addison presents some very good writing. If I have one thing to pick on, it’s that I don’t believe the toddler was portrayed accurately - even a very well spoken three-year-old doesn’t articulate as well as Olivia did. Believable characters are very important to me (equally as important as good dialog), but since Olivia is a minor character in the story, I wasn’t bothered too much. And with as well as the emotions and conflict were written, I’m willing to overlook that minor flaw in this otherwise compelling story.

So far (three stories in), I’m enjoying the additions to Cristin Harber’s Titan World, and am looking forward to the rest!

4 star spangled patriotic stars.

Maddie and Seth Blaise married at just 19 years old and had the kind of love that only came around once in a lifetime. Maddie stood by Seth through Air Force Pararescueman training and deployment, sure that their love would survive anything. But multiple deployments, time apart and raising their daughter on her own has Maddie wondering just how much longer she can live like this. It'll take a threat to her life to show them both just how much they've been missing.

FLIGHTPATH is a novella in the Titan World series by a variety of authors writing in and around the world of the Titan series by Cristin Harber. This story by Ms. Addison focused on Josh and Maddie, and it was just so heart wrenching. I was devastated every time Josh left on another deployment and Maddie's heart broke again and again. FLIGHTPATH really showed the strength of a military family, not just for the service member, but also the spouse who never knows whether their loved one will return to them. Maddie had such a strength of character and focused her efforts on making sure she stayed strong for Josh so he wouldn't have to worry about her, meanwhile she was breaking a little more each day. Josh didn't know what a hard time his woman was having at home without him, and this glimpse into a world that is foreign to me just broke my heart. Their love was so pure and strong and I couldn't help rooting for them to make it. The sex was hot and delicious and their connection absolutely palpable. This was a great addition to the Titan World series!

Bottom Line: No OM/OW or sharing; some condom use; no BDSM/kink; no sexual assault; violence, talk of military killings. - See more at: http://www.theromancereviews.com/view...

5 "Golden Hour" stars
Not only is Amber one of the most fabulous women I have ever encountered, but she is an incredibly fierce writer and I am so glad you had to cojones to write this up because I have been crying into my bottle of wine (because I went straight for the bottle and dismissed the glass) for like 3 hours. As a military wife of a National Guard veteran I absolutely LOVED that the JOB - because it is a JOB - that the military wives/women behind their men do is equally as important. They raise the family, keep them occupied, build a home, and they are supposed to be the rock for every one involved including the deployed. I really loved that the struggles were properly portrayed. I also LOVED that the job of a PJ was highlighted because that is one profession that never gets spoken about and it quite important. The part of this book I like the most is that the problems are real--> they may not seem dramatic enough for some but at the end of the day they hit you hard because everyone has lived this trouble, whether you are military wife, or a stay at home mom with a husband that works odd hours, or just being a person in a relationship where your significant other's time is compromised by important commitments. I felt that to my core. Amber manager to rip my heart out, stir it, rebuild it, and put it back in and I will never be the same again. Please, keep writing. I need you in my life, and I need a good reason to tell my husband that I need a Costco supply of wine. LOVED IT.

Wow just Wow

For a first book by someone I consider as a friend and with our Team Titan Group, this was an awesome book. But most of all it makes you appreciate the women who stay by their men while they are deployed. I know this because I work with these brave men and women twice a month and cherish how they allow me to be one of their friends.

Maddie and Seth Blaise are a newly married couple when he decides to become a Pararescueman or PJ. The most elite and best of the best of the Air Force. After long and thorough training Seth is deployed and they are able to talk via video calls whenever he can. But will he be a changed person when he comes home? When an attack occurs in U.S. Soil, will Seth arrive in time to save his soul mate?

Flight path is a look inside the hardships, joy and shear determination that every military spouse goes through on a daily basis. I admire each and everyone who goes through this, it's hard being away from the one you love and the worry that they might not come back. Or that they'll not be the same person when they do come home. This book is a look inside their lives, families, bravery and determination of being part of the armed forces.

Next up in Titan World, Flightpath by Amber Addison.
This book was a hard for me to get into. I couldn't get used to the writing style at first. The characters and emotions were strong, I just got hung up on the format. Once I got the hang of it, I really enjoyed the book.
Flightpath has less of the suspense and action that I anticipated for a Titan connected novel, it was there, just not as heavily as others I have read. This book centers more on some very deep emotions.
I did get a tiny sneak peek at one of my favorite Titan characters, before he became Titan, and it was amazing to see him through someone else's eyes. If you haven't read a Titan novel before, no worries, Flightpath stands alone perfectly.

Addison does a good job with this story. This is an emotional story and she gives us POV'S from both characters. Flightpath is an emotional story and you will feel the characters emotions coming off the pages. This is a love story about love at first site and sicking with your wife and husband though thick and thin, while still loving eachother. Seth the hero is defintely one of my book boyfriends. I also loved seeing Cash from Harber's Titan Group in Flightpath.
If you haven't checked out Titan World I suggest you get a copy of Flightpath to start your journey into Titan World. Happily Reading!!
