Gavin Mitchel has resigned himself to a lonely and unfulfilling love life. His first meeting with Ryker Hudson is as steamy as it is random, which is precisely the way Ryker likes it. Their second meeting, while equally random, is beyond awkward.
Although a fourteen-year age difference stands in their way, a much larger obstacle also blocks their path. Together, Ryker and Gavin must find the strength to overcome the roadblocks or bid farewell to their happily ever after.
Ryker & Gavin is a May/December, forbidden love romance.

Ryker 18 years old clear and honest informs his mom he is and always will be into boys.
Said this should be clearing the sky......not.....

What supposed to be a proud loving mom, in the end shows up as a person who doesn't think about her boy....only about herself
There he goes.... from a warm home to homeless....and now to find a way to cash money.....

Five years later....

Soooo..... Gavin boy.... it surprised me so much, the corner he was coming from in this story. I must say it was very refreshing. I won't spoil....please read it yourself :)

The way they were around each other was endearing and hot at the same time. The fourteen year age difference was something between the two men to deal with and this was in my opinion inferior to the fact where they really had to deal with.

The group of friends around them were great as they supported them fully.
All those feelings it felt real. Just enough drama to feel honest real

And then there is mom....*deep sigh*......I really had and still have trouble to like her. She treated Ryker badly and now she's trying to reconnect. I had so much anger in me (I only know her shortly so the anger is fresh) and Ryker was just amazing, again honest.

The boys have big hearts.

Ryker & Gavin were put down with kind and lovely personalities not softy, quite strong

The story, told from both Ryker and Gavin's pov, had a nice flow with good dialogue, not to much drama more a sweet read. All personalities (except one....sorry it may take some time) were put down easygoing and supportive. Awesome human beings <3

Kindly received an ARC from the Author

PS: I raise my glass to children who despite being treated so bad they always seem to have a place in their heart to forgive.

Five year ago, Ryker's mother threw him out of the house and her life when he came out. Ever since then, he's had trouble trusting and has never had a boyfriend or really wanted one. Luckily, he met his roommate and best friend and managed to land on his feet.

He meets Gavin through a dating & hook up app. Although the both felt a bit of a spark, he is uncomfortable and expects it to be a one night stand. A week later, he agrees to meet with his mother and Gavin happens to be there. They are co-workers and best friends. They obviously don't let his mother know about having previously met, and agree to forget about their connection.

But, they keep meeting up and it becomes harder to deny their attraction. Eventually they agree to date behind his mothers back to see if what they have is worth pursuing. Gavin was originally reluctant because of their 14 year age difference, and he didn't want to upset Annabeth, Rykers mom. Though, she does end up finding out before they are ready to tell her.

Fortunately, things work out all around between the men, and their relationships with Annabeth.

I really liked this one. Although Ryker had some moments where his younger age showed, and I think that was more his hurt and anger with his mother than true immaturity; they acted like grown ups. I know lying to Annabeth about their relationship wasn't the best thing, but I understood why they did it. The story was realistic and sometimes real life and relationships can be messy, and I think the author did a good job portraying that.

*~~*ARC kindly provided by the author to me in exchange for an honest review *~~*

I very rarely read and write review of books in a series when I haven’t started it yet. This book intrigued and gained my interest when I read the blurb in a FB group and was up for ARC request.

Though the 5th book in a series this book can be without problems read as a stand alone.

It has a very nice, solid writing, it flows very well and fitting and the character’s behaviour was in my eyes unerstandable and sometimes I had mutual feelings. The perpective is first person, this way you can even more feel with the character.

Ryker is one of the main character, like the title says and he is kicked out by his mother when he came out at the age of 18. It is heart breaking how Ryker tries to be tough and steadfast, his mother isn’t a person you genuinly like at the beginning.

Gavin, as it is revealed soon in the book, is the best friend of Ryker’s mother. Due to certain circumstances he and Ryker met each other before and for both sides it was only a short fling. Too bad that he is not only 14 years older, no, he is unfortunately bestie with her. A thing which causes unexpected trouble because the tension is palpable between the two.

It is heart clenching how Ryker is shaped by his past, how he is angry, aggressive and insulting to Annabeth, his mother and Gavin. But his aggressive behaviour is excusable in so many ways, because the reader know his pain. On the other hand you understand a bit Annabeth’s actions, though you not agree with her.

Gavin is the balancing part in the whole book, at least concerning repairing the relationship between Annabeth and Ryker on the first hand.

The constant tension and attraction towards each other cause more problems.

The sexual encounter are well displayed and very sexy without being over the top, The issue with the age gap is soon a thing in the background and you are happy for and with the two guys.

The minor character are very charming, you have a great time with the character Asher and the sweet couples from Ryker’s circle of friends. Very charming and sweet, genuine people.

The book has its little weak past therefore I can only give 4,5 out of 5 stars, it’s rounded up on Goodreads (side note: they really need to get half stars xD).

If you worry you don’t can’t read this book without the knowledge of the other, I can tell: you can read it perfectly alone. I never had the though it was missing something. :)

Recensione in ANTEPRIMA

Finding Connection . . .

Ryker Hudson had a difficult time when he announced his being gay to his mother. Her reaction caused him to only invest in one-night-stands and not expect anything further. But it was a lonely existence.

One of Ryker’s hookups is Gavin Mitchel, and he actually felt something more. Finding out Gavin was friends with his mother would make pursuing a relationship perhaps awkward. Will the two of them be willing to take a chance on a relationship they both seem to want? Despite a 14-year age difference, are the strong feelings of connection for the other strong enough to take that risk? Or will the past and the situation now put too much pressure on them to try?

Another great addition to the series! The author once again brings strong characters in Gavin and Ryker and takes them on an emotional journey toward their HEA. The scenes are painted perfectly and the story moves fluidly. They have many obstacles to overcome along the way. Their chemistry is hot and the sexual scenes are hotter. I loved reading their story.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

What an emotional read
At the age of 18 Ryker came out to his mother. Explaining as best he could why he was gay and held no interest in females. But his mother couldn’t understand, couldn’t support and couldn’t let him stay under her roof if he continued to act that way as she put it. So he left he packed a bag and he left. thankfully he met Asher at a café who explained he was looking for a new roommate and if he enjoyed acting a part in the local production at the theatre. This change Ryker’s life, He thought he would be alone in the world but in honesty he got a family that excepted him. Now five years later she was trying to get in contact again and he couldn’t bring himself to answer the phone.
Gavin thought he would always be lonely he just never felt like he had met the one so he would hook up on the local dating app and that was enough for him. Last week he had hooked up with a guy who made him feel things but it was obvious he was only there for a hook up. And didn’t think there would be a repeat performance. As it was his best friend was trying to get in contact with her son. When they first started talking he had no idea that she was homophobic but as they spend more time together she came to understand what it meant to be gay and now desperately wanted to be in her sons life again. But that was more difficult than he and she imagined he understood what it would feel like to be rejected but he would try his best to help her. They were going to local production and she couldn’t believe it when her son Ryker was playing a part. Hi Nikki and Gavin had left her to go and find him. He was thrilled for her that Ryka had said he would pick up the phone for her and after that. Finally after a week of trying he answers his mothers phone calls and they agreed to meet up at the house. Annabeth asked Gavin to be there for support. And that is when Gavin found out that the guy he had hooked up a week ago was none other than her son. The meeting didn’t go as planned Ryker was confused and hurt that she could except Gavin gay man when she couldn’t except him and was even cruel to them both assuming things but he knew he had to get out of there. Kevin went after him I’m tried to talk him round. He could understand how Ryker was feeling.
Could Ryker forgive his mother for her behaviour?? Could he stop his attraction to Gavin?? Could Gavin stop his attraction to Ryker because he knew his best friend would not understand??
I could not believe how emotional this book made me my heart bleed for 18-year-old Ryker but with the support of Asher and his family and friends he made, made him a strong, confident sassy young man who came into his own when he was on stage. I like that he put himself out there. He wasn’t scared to be hurt to get what he wanted, put my heart bleed for him when things didn’t go as planned. I can understand Gavin‘s point of view but to fight an attraction when he haven’t felt this way about anyone before just didn’t make any sense to me. I really liked all of Rykers friends and the support they gave one another but his best friend was a star he didn’t shy away Of giving the best advice. I really really enjoyed this book and I didn’t want it to come to an end I can’t wait for the next book that a AD Ellis brings out!!

I am utterly besotted with this series. I enjoy the way A.D. Ellis gives us characters that are flawed and real. This story is no different.

Ryker came out to his mom at 18 y.o. and was rejected for his troubles. For the next five years he built a life forged behind walls to lock out the hurt of prenatal absence and fear of romantic entanglements. One chance encounter with Gavin has him questioning how he can break his rule of “no repeats” after a one night stand. Eerily drawn to this stranger he determines it is a fluke and moves on with his life. A brief time later, his mother re-enters his life and brings with her Gavin (her gay best friend). Confused (by his attraction to Gavin and his mother’s change of heart toward gay people) he lashes out at them both. Despite his efforts to the contrary, he is hopelessly drawn to Gavin.

Gavin is social awkward and new to town, he befriends Annabeth and tried to help her reconcile with her estranged son. In the process they, despite their age difference, become best friends. A night spent with a strange who he secretly wants to see more of us just a tiny destruction. During the initial meeting of mother and son, Gavin is there to offer support. What he doesn’t expect is that the angry son is also the mesmerizing stranger from the other night.

What a holy mess!! Gavin is hurt, angry, and torn. One part of him wants his mother back, but the other half is wondering how she could reject him (her son) and be so accepting of then man. How was his sexual orientation unpalatable, but this man’s sexual orientation is a non issue? Gavin is struggling with another dilemma, what should he do with these intrusive thought of the beautiful young man who is is very much off limits? Not only is Ryker the son of Gavin’s best friend, he is also 14 years younger! Is Ryker to young for Gavin? Will he lose his best friend if he pursues what could be the love of his life? How could the universe be so unkind?

Watching these two battle their insecurities, fears, anger, and hurt to find their happily ever after was a delight.

As a person who was given a “no option” option by a parent following coming out, I could relate to this story. Luckily my prenatal rejection came as I was an established adult. I couldn’t imagine that level of rejection at 18.

This is another great addition to the series.

5 stars plus..This is a beautiful story about fates and never questioning them. I loved the age difference in this story.
Poor Gavin he's in the middle of mother and son and trying reconcile them but he wants a relationship with Ryker as well. Ryker's is a angry young lad with what happened with his mother 5 years ago. Angst for Gavin in deciding on what he wants to find love or a valued friendship.
At 18 Ryker left his mother's house after coming out to her, she couldn't accept him being gay. 5 yrs on Ryker (23) is acting and dancing working a day job too and housing with his friend Asher.
Ryker didn't know his mother was calling him to try to reconcile again.  She wanted for him to meet Gavin. Wow Gavin (37 yrs) was Bamaboy69 they'd met nights ago on a hot hook up.  Gavin was his moms friend from work.
Of course Ryker's angry having Gavin in his house to meet with his mother again. Tempers fly and accusations too.
Damm Asher should be a therapist he's great at analyzing Ryker.... A great book that even has a wedding in it.

I loved this book. Boy was it an emotional read. My heart broke for Ryker when his mom kicked him out of the house when he was eighteen when he came out as gay. I can't imagine having to go through that at any age let alone as a teenager. I loved his meeting with Asher and that it really did feel like fate. Asher is just awesome! I wish I saw a little more of him (although he did have a good number of scenes). I loved all the friends in this book. John and Caleb's coming together made me really happy and I would love to read their story from their point of view. Gavin and Ryker make a good couple. An awkward first meeting, but the spark was there. And an even more awkward second meeting that neither expected. There were a lot of emotions and risks to unravel and take between Ryker, Gavin, and Annabeth- whose sincere efforts I was impressed with and appreciative of. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in this series. 5 stars.

I really enjoyed this book

This is book 5 in the Something About Him series. This novel is about Ryker a 23 year old man who at ages 18 was kicked out of his home by his mother for being gay. Gavin is best friends with Rykers mum Annabeth and only knows Ryker as the son she abandoned 5 years ago. By a cruel twist of fate both men meet again after their one night together only to realise that the attraction they felt for each other can't continue because of Annabeth. But the spark won't go away and both men find they can't stay away from each other. Can they make a relationship work and can Annabeth accept her son and her best friend being together. Can Ryker let go of the hurt his mother caused and can Gavin get over the 14 year age gap and also help Ryker and Annabeth reconnect without losing Ryker in the process. Read this book to find out.

I’ve been enjoying this series, abeit in random order; and while I did thoroughly enjoy this one, I don’t think it was one of the best. It’s just that the whole Gavin being Ryker’s mom’s best friend thing was just overplayed and at time rather creepy. Like when you’re about to make love to your partner and you’re thinking about how his mother would react to your relationship....ya, creepy.
But I also like the way the author portrayed Ryker’s emotions as he grappled with his relationship with his mother. His swings from bitter and angry to sadness and needy really captured the emotional damage done to him after he came out to her.
I liked Ryker’s friend and roommate Asher. He really was a true friend and guardian angel. But I found it rather curious that he was so comfortable within his primary group of friends - all gay men. In the real world, he is a rare breed.

Ryker & Gavin by AD Ellis
I received this book from the author for an honest review.
AHH YES! This book is by far my favorite of AD’s. I don’t know why but Gavin just got to me……Maybe it’s his age, nerdy persona, unconfident and unlucky in love??? Maybe its Ryker just wanting to be loved and accepted for who he is unconditionally?? I don’t know but this couple….my heart!!!
Imagine finding a one night stand and thinking that MAYBE it could me more….and then a week later finding out this is soooo not possible because that one night stand is your best friends son…yeah AKWARD family dinners right!!?? WELL imagine said mother threw her gay son out when he came out at 18??? I mean HARSH. Gavin is stuck…rock and hard place for dang sure. We can feel his conflicted feelings for Ryker. He is young and fun but he makes Gavin feel comfortable which isn’t an easy feat for “the old man”.
Ryker is hurting and refuses to let his mother back in but then after listening to his bestie and Gavin, he realized maybe he is willing to forgive things…but more importantly, is he willing to give things a go with Gavin??? *I was chanting DO IT DO IT*
You guys seriously, I felt the sadness from Gavin. I felt and understood the anger at Ryker but I did wanna nut punch him one or twice for his overly rude comments. But the feels are soooooooo THERE in this book.
I will say I loved seeing my Torey Hope peps and the side love story which totally helped Gavin and Ryker admit their feelings for one another…………

This is a re-release with a different cover, sone work done in the original release. I found I struggled a bit with this, 5th book in the Something about him series. For some reason or another I found it hard to relate to the characters, for me they felt 'flat' and also I found 'mom' to self centred and annoying. I hope I can enjoy other books in the series more, as I have done before.
This is an age gap mm romance. Ryker had an one time thing with Gavin, who turns out to be his estranged mother's bff. His mother kicked him out at 18 when he came out, he struggles when his mom wants to reconnect. Both men get involved and for different reasons they do not tell mom/bff. They find their hfn/ hea.
I give the book a 4-.

Love this emotion filled story

Ryder had a rough time after he told his mom about being gay. His life was turned upside down. Fate intervenes and he meets Asher. Asher is so great for him. He helps find a life once his has been turned upside down. Gavin is friends with his mom. The emotions that they go through after meeting the first time, then again with his mom is a big rollercoaster of emotions. They fight the feelings but as Asher says fate is there. Love their friends and family from Torey Hope. This is an emotion filled story about the way some gay people struggle to come out. Love this story.

Ryker & Gavin

Ryker and Gavin's story is a very good one. You have Ryker who is a very nice and sweet man who has been hurt in the past and is lonely. When he meets Gavin, they have an instant connection, Ryker comes to find out that he is his mom's best friend. These 2 men go through many different challenges throughout their relationship and have to endure a lot of ups and downs to get their happily ever after. Gavin is older but has a young sole and is perfect for Ryker. A.D. Ellis did a fantastic job writing this book. I voluntarily read an Advanced Reader's Copy of this book.

At 18 Ryker was told to leave by his mother because she couldn’t accept having a gay son. Went to a coffee shop near the motel and Asher started talking to him, Asher needed a roommate and helped get a job at the theater as a dancer. Asher claimed it was fate that took him the coffee shop at that time. Ryker met Gavin on the Grindr app but didn’t know his name so when he finally talked to his mother after 5 years Gavin was there for his mother. For awhile Ryker felt rejected by both Gavin and his mother. But you can’t fight fate as Asher says. Great book loved the ending!

In love

I absolutely love this series! I think each book is better than the last. I'm so glad that this one ended with a happy ending for everyone. I was a little worried towards the end. I think Braeton, Andrew, Bryan, Grayson and Braeliegh would get along great with this group!!! :)

The storyline was interesting, but obvious in the “mistakes” Ryker and Gavin were making which needed to be cleaned up later. I did appreciate the honesty of reaction from Ryker’s mom throughout the story. It seemed very plausible and unfortunately too often the truth. Still a lot of fluff because there was really no basis for Ryker to make such a 180 into his HEA.

Once again another great book by A.D. Ellis... it is a great story of how so many things that are over came to make a relationship work. It was great to see so many of the couples and families from previous books. The relationships that were shown throughout the book was great and sawed so many dynamics. Can't wait for the next book.

Really loved this story. Loved Ryker. Poor Ryker. He had it tough when his mom disowned him for being gay, but he found great friends and Gavin. Loved Gavin for him, they were such an amazing couple. I did not want this story to end! I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Another Great One

I loved the characters first and foremost and the story ended up surprising me. I love how Annabeth was such an integral part of the plot and lgbt families, both blood and self made, were given airtime. This series just keeps getting better.
