Waitress extraordinaire turned P.I. What could possibly go wrong?
When Tracy Hayes, Brooklyn waitress extraordinaire (only a slight exaggeration) loses her job – again – she doesn’t despair. She can’t afford to or she’ll lose her apartment. Instead, she takes the first job that she comes across. She becomes an apprentice to an enigmatic PI.
Her first case should be easy: locate the owner of a dog she’s found. But things are never as simple as they seem, and she’s soon ankles deep in criminals, FTAs, and cheating spouses – her ex-husband included. And that’s on top of a new roommate, who may or may not be a hacker, and a family that likes to meddle with her life.
A weaker woman would give up, but Brooklyn waitresses are made of sterner stuff. A good thing too, because Tracy will need every ounce of her strength and ingenuity to pull herself out of the mess she finds herself in.

A stolen dog, A cheating wife, a fugitive bank robber, and mafia guys galore!
by Barbara Kelley
I do not recall ever reading a book by Susanna Shore in the past. However, I will be reading more books by her, especially all the ones in this series. Tracy Hayes, Apprentice P. I., gives the reader a look into a a 27 year old waitress who loses her job over something that is not her fault. Tracy lives in Brooklyn, New York, in an apartment that costs 1600.00 dollars to rent. Her roommate, Jessica, has moved out to live with her boyfriend, and she does not show up physically in the book, and this leaves Tracy in need of a new roommate to split the rent with. This episode is about getting an apprentice P.I. job with Jackson, whom she finds out was a friend of her older twin brothers, Trevor, who is a police officer, and Travis, who is an attorney, and Jackson had known them when they were in high school, which was like 20+ years ago. Tracy also has an older sister, Tessa, A doctor; A really nice mom; and a dad, who is a retired police officer with the NYPD. So now Tracy is an apprentice for a P.I., and her first assignment is to find out who a lost dog's owner is. Another assignment is to find out if their client's wife is cheating on him. A third assignment is skip tracing a fugitive bank robber. And the fourth case ties in with the first: why is a mafia guy claiming to be the owner of the lost dog. This episode has lots of excitement, and I think you'll like this series as much as I do. I gave this first episode a 5 star rating.
It was a promising story. I liked the characters and, though the plot seemed improbable, I was willing to suspend reality to see how the story unfolded. But it wasn't long into the story before I realized the author was not from the US. There were too many phrases and words used that no one in the US would use. It wouldn't be a problem, but this was a story about a PI in New York who was supposedly dealing with the mafia. AND, a 10 year veteran of th we New York waitress staff. Ok, I had to laugh at the ridiculousness of the story, but the author should be reminded that you should write what you know. My guess is research for this story included a few news sound bites and maybe a tour of New York. Sorry, but this story was just bad.
Tracy Hayes, 27, divorced from her cheating musician husband, Scott, for six years, gets fired from the most recent in a string of waitressing jobs - then gets taken on as an apprentice P.I. This is a book which is more about Tracy and the people around her than the various detecting jobs that come her way. She's a likeable and believable character, slightly at sea in a world that didn't quite work out for her to date, maybe detecting will be the solution ... It's a fast, cheerful read - I enjoyed it tremendously.
About a woman name Tracy who work as waitressing turned p.I. Because she got fired from waitressing because of a stray dog who wander in and feast on shop pastry and threw up. She finds an add for p.i. Help with Jackson Dean agency and this is where she finds herself causing havoc though no fault of her own..A very amusing story
I was pleasantly surprised…I thought it might be ok …but it was more than ok…characters were interesting….can’t tell where they’re going…I like the surprising things about the characters…the heroine does work my nerves….a bit of a whiner
I enjoyed the book. The characters were fun and the pacing was quick. Almost nonstop action. I laughed off and on throughout. However, it could do with some good editing...almost gave it 4 stars for that alone.
I thought this waitress to the job as assistant P.I. was funny and the story carried me quickly through the book. Looking forward to reading more of Tracy Hayes adventures.
