The fairy tales have it all wrong.

Cinderella didn’t fall in love with the prince. He was nothing more to her than an easy escape from her shitty life.

How do I know? Because in this twisted Cinderella story I’m her long-lost stepbrother.

Wilhelmina is about to marry the wrong man. He’s no prince charming, and Mina sure as hell doesn’t love him, so I have no idea why she wants to spend her life with him.

Time’s running out for me to save my stubborn Cinderella by stopping her wedding.

Nothing, not even war, prepared me for this agonizing battle to win Mina’s heart.

Good thing I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve and I don’t mind fighting dirty.

DISCLAIMER: This fictional story is far from a fairy tale. It’s a rather dark spin on Cinderella, only instead of a wicked stepmother, this heroine dreams of escaping years of traumatic sexual abuse. Fair warning that there are a few scenes that could trigger emotional distress before the hero saves the day.

I've read all the cocky cage fighter books and although I've loved them all, this is without a doubt my favourite out the series. Why?? Well...
What's better than a super sexy mma fighter? A sexy MMA fighter that's a troubled ex marine!!!
Trick's finally starting to get noticed in the MMA world after leaving the Marines. Needing just one night to lose himself, to just forget, he meets mysterious Mina who seems just as eager to forget for a little while as Trick is. Never expecting to see each other again, things take an unexpected turn when they're thrown back together. With Mina keeping secrets and Tricks protective side coming out in full force, it's not long befoure Trick realises that things aren't always what they seem and when he does, you just know he's gonna kick ass.

I loved this book. Trick is absolutely swoon worthy. He's hot, alpha, troubled, kind....seriously I could keep going but I'm sure you're getting the idea. He's perfect. Mina is another great character. I liked her from the start and the more I found out about her, the more I grew to love her.

Another fantastic cocky cage fighter book. I don't know how Lane Hart is going to beat this one.

Trick (A Cocky Cage Fighter #7) by Lane Hart
• Intense
THIS BOOK IS INTENDED FOR MATURE AUDIENCES 18 + ONLY. THE STORY CONTAINS ADULT LANGUAGE AND EXPLICIT SEX SCENES, including sexual assault scenes that could trigger emotional distress. If you or someone you know has been the victim of sexual abuse you should call 800.656.4673 or visit HTTPS:// WWW.RAINN.ORG/ ABOUT-SEXUAL-ASSAULT to get help.
Lane sucks you in from the prologue, you can't help but continue to turn the page as fast as you can to find out what happens next!! This story is an extra tough one to read on a personal level. Trick and Mina met before knowing about the family connection. However will they end up HEA or miserably ever after? You'll have to read TRICK to find out! I got hooked on this series as soon as I started reading Jax! While each of these stories in this series are their own standalone HEA, reading the series from the beginning will give you more background and depth of the complete story. Time to go read Luke's story!!
Due to sexual and adult situations this novel is recommended for 18 and older

Trick by Lane Hart a trickster of a five-star read. This is the seventh book in the cocky cage fighter series, but the can all be read as stand-alone, but I am a lover of a good series and this one is amazing, usually by book seven I would be a little pushed to still have the same level of obsession I have about this series, but as each book is about one man Havok man and focuses on him and not just his eight-sided dream, but his whole life and everyone in it. You see some of the other boys pop up in each other’s stories and it all wraps up nicely. I imagine Lane Harts mind must be a mahoosive memory palace to keep on top of everyone’s story’s and have them flowing and revealing a little more with each book, but not giving the whole end game away. I shows a real talent for writing that means I am working through everything she has even written and have even re-read a couple of the cocky cage fighter books before I have finished the whole series. It’s that amazing.
Patrick Foxx is a little lost in his life, after leaving the Marines after losing his best friend Austin and then being put in the friend’s zone by his widow Alyssa whom he was just trying to be there for, finding himself fighting for more than just the win after a punch up. Trick finds himself alone in the world, seeming like no one would be there to watch him win, until his farther invites him to a wedding, the wedding of his step-sister.
Wilhelmina Hightower has had a tough time and now is the perfect time to get away, her sister is going away to college and her prince is offering her a new home, but the night of the bachelor party he offers something more, something that shows he may not be the prince she was after. But given Mina’s circumstances just because he’s not a prince doesn’t mean he won’t be her perfect escape. Until fate offers her another option, an option that turns up the morning after and introduces her as her step-brother, in town for the wedding. Fate is a fickle player and she has more up her sleeve for these two that they could ever imagine, but it seems fate may be having a helping hand from a little someone.
This was such an amazing book, it deals with issues that some will face and not all will feel strong enough to get away from, but maybe just one person will read this book and get the strength they need. After all the strength is within you just need to find your inner fighter. There are also an amazing telephone number and a website in the book where you can find help, the website can help even if you aren’t in the US. It can also give you some very helpful information about how to avoid circumstances you should never end up, no matter how much you are convinced it would be you as you are strong and independent, it can happen to anyone. Making this information easily accessible is an amazing thing to do. Thank you Lane Hart for being the amazing woman you are.

This story was gut-wrenching, angsty and disturbing. Trick is finally in his element at Havoc after all the shit-kicking that man has endured in his life. Mina is set to marry and escape her hellish life. Don't want to give anything away, suffice it to say, this is not a read for the feint of heart. Absolutely loved it. This series just gets better and better.

~Trick and Mina~ **If you have a trigger about sexual abuse this book is not for you**
Trick is a sexy bad boy Marine veteran who has a serious case of surviors guilt. He finally decides after 8 years that he needs to get laid and so after his first 5 wins of his MMA career. He meets the beautiful and amazing Mina in a night club. He instantly falls for her and feels a deep connection to her. Little did he know after them saying their goodbyes that he would fall deeper and harder for her after he finds that she is is stepsister. He finds out that she is in a loveless and meaningless relationship that he intends to make that disappear. He learns so much about her that he doesn't realize that in the end she is in so much more danger. But its not until he is forced to leave her and make the hardest choice he has ever made that he figures it all out.
She has been sexually abused by the man that was supposed to be a father to her. She finds a man to marry that is of no threat of ever abusing her but she does realize that Mike her stepfather paid Derek for the relationship so that he could continue abusing her for the rest of his life. When Trick walks in on Mike abusing Mina he loses it and beats him unconsious and almost losing it all in the process. Mina then has no choice but to come to his rescue and save him from a life in prison. She lays all the abuse and torture out for Mike to finally get what is coming to him. Will Trick and Mina be able to make their lives together or will they fall apart completely?
I normally have a trigger about sexual assault or rape but in this book because the man doing the abusing gets whats coming to him, I find it almost cathartic for me. I was not sure how I would react to this book. This book made me laugh, cry and smile a very wicked smile by the end of it.

I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily wrote an honest review.
OMFG! Lane you never cease to amaze me with your writing! Here we are at book 7 and this book is just as good as the first 6, if not better! I have been struggling with a major book hangover, but of course Lane doesn't let me down. She had me sucked into this book before I even got through the prologue! This book has everything in it that I require in a 5 star read! It made me laugh, it made me cry, it pissed me off, it devastated me, it made me happy, it touched my heart, there were moments that I was spellbound and there were moments that had my jaw dropping. There was angst and suspense and there was a time or two I wanted to throw my kindle. But the story-line is so well written and it flows so effortlessly. Never once did it feel forced nor did it ever stall out. And with each book that Lane adds to this series she just adds additional characters into the mix and does an amazing job developing them that it's hard NOT to connect with them. You walk away from here stories feeling like you've made new friends and not just read a book about them. Lane has an amazing God-given gift and I will be here reading her books for as long as she is going to be writing them. If you love you some MMA Fighters and amazing love stories with some hot sexy Alpha males, you really NEED to read this series! Ain't nothing as nice as Cocky Cage Fighters that can walk the walk and they most definitely can talk the talk!

The last two books of the Cocky Cage Fighter series have been very different. This one well whilst heartbreaking, completely had me sadden and constantly on edge for all the wrong reasons. Lane Hart is writing about issues that truly matter.

Patrick (Trick) Foxx is a troubled ex-marine suffering from survivor’s guilt. An up and coming MMA Fighter, his life has no direction since leaving Afghanistan. After being friend-zoned with the woman he thought he loved, he takes the opportunity to reconnect with his father during the team’s tournament in Florida.

Going out with his teammates after the final fight, Trick decides to hook up with a random stranger for the night. He immediately sets his sights on Mina before having the hottest sex in the back alley of the club. Knowing the connection he has is real, he asks to see her again only to be rejected. The story of his life.

Mina Hightower is stuck. Her fiance told her hours earlier that he wants to sleep with other woman in the lead up to their wedding to ‘get it out of his system’. She is mad, annoyed and strangely attracted to the strong looking guy asking her to dance. Figuring she needs an escape for the night, she is quite happy when this insanely hot guy takes her literally in the side alley of the club. Following the best sex of her life, she is disappointed knowing she has to walk away especially after experiencing a connection like ever before.

At twenty-seven years of age, Mina still has a curfew imposed by her asshole of a step-father. A real tyrant who has enjoyed hurting her since she was fifteen years of age. When the abuse first started she told her mum only to be called a liar, now she writes everything down in a lockable journal hidden away in her closet.

Washing away the scent of Trick, her step-father walks into her room and the horrors follow within minutes. Instead of concentrating on what is happening to her, she imagines it is Trick doing the things just so the abuse is more bearable. After he leaves, Mina showers again before releasing the latest horrors into her writing.

The next morning, Mina is surprised when she greets Derek at the door and he begs to have her back. Knowing she has her own little secret, she agrees. Whilst she loves Derek, she is not in love with him and is only really using him to escape her own version of hell.

Patrick is met with the surprise of his life when he is greeted at the door of his father’s house by the same woman who walked away from him the night before. Mina is his step sister by marriage and within a day he realizes he must convince her to call of the wedding and take a chance on them.

Determined to uncover who has put the welts on Mina’s back side and caused the pain in her eyes, Patrick starts to realize that the happy home his father portrays, hides a lot more secrets within. When he does finally discover the perpetrator, his anger holds no bounds and it’s only Mina’s soft voice that calms his soul.

I loved this book just as much as the last even though the underlying issue is so brutal. The love and burden both characters share is what I believe makes them drawn to one another. They are the calming entity each of them craves and it is that connection that determines their fate.

I only wish the ending was a little longer, perhaps with Trick’s narrative to close off the story.

Every time I finish the latest from the Cocky Cage Fighters i think that Lane Hart has outdone herself and the next one can't get any better, but the next one always leaves me amazed with Trick being the latest added to that list. The warning at the beginning of the book should not be taken lightly, but the amazing way Lane has of writing her characters shows just how much they can overcome and survive through. Patrick "Trick" Foxx has survived his childhood, with parents who could care less and were quick to move on to new families, survived Afghanistan and loosing his best friend, even though there are days he struggles and feels like he failed his friend by being the one to come home, made it through thinking he was in love, or could make himself take the spot of, with his former friend's widow. Falling into cage fighting and finding the guys of Havoc he finds a place where he fits, as well as he feels he can fit in. A night out after his amazing wins brings him into the orbit of the most amazing woman, but as quick as it began it's over and she is gone from his life. Mina, Wilhelmina Hightower, is letting loose for the first time in her life and lets the handsome stranger lead her into the most passionate moment of her life, but then reality comes crashing back in. To say that Mina has the inner strength to rival any super hero you could think of would be an understatement of the century. When Trick goes home to his father's for a visit and his stepsister's wedding the last person he was expecting was the woman from the club, but will stop at nothing to not loose the girl this time. Both Trick and Mina have been through nightmares that would have most of us curled in a ball in the corner the fact that they are both still moving and living makes you root for them to get the ending they so greatly deserve. To battle their demons and come out stronger they will have to lay themselves bare and become vulnerable to each other, which in itself is scary, but the outcome could be greater than they ever imagined. I again have to say thank you to Lane Hart for giving us these absolutely amazing characters that never cease to amaze me! I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

I wasn't sure if I was going to like this one. I really didn't like Patrick in the last book. Then I saw a warning that there was some sexual violence. I thought about maybe skipping this one, but then I decided that I would read it anyway because I usually love what Lane Hart has to write. ***THERE ARE SEMI-SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW*** (I could not think of a way to write the review without giving away a lot of the story)

Patrick (aka Trick) just won 5 fights in 5 days. So how does a single guy celebrate? Go to a club and pick up a woman for the night. He sees a lot of ladies there.... but only one got him to move his feet on over to the dance floor. Mina was there to dance the night away and forget the man that she WAS engaged to. They actually get down and dirty in the alley outside of the club. And then she couldn't get away from him fast enough.

Patrick stuck around to go meet up with his dad, who he hadn't seen in years, and attend the wedding of his stepsister. He was quite surprised to find that his stepsister was the girl he picked up at the club! And she was in fact back together with her fiance and still planning to get married. Not if he has anything to say about it.

The family dynamic in this story is completely dysfunctional. Patrick's dad (Mike) is still a jerk who doesn't pay him children much attention. He practically ignores them all, except Mina. Although she wishes he ignored her too. She is using her fiance as a way to escape the abuse that she has been enduring for years! Despite the fact that Patrick is his son, she feels safe with him, like he will protect her from the abuse his dad inflicts on her.

Patrick totally redeemed himself in my eyes in this book. He is most definitely the exact kind of hero you want to read about. He is passionate, caring, protective and has a hero complex so he is always compelled to save the day! With Patrick's help, Mina finds her strength. The sexual violence was a key point in the story. And while you would think that it would turn people off, it was written in way that had you feeling the despair of Mina and wanting to personally rip Mike to shreds. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS ONE!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book

Patrick Foxx is Austins best friend, Austin didnt make it back from the war and Patrick feels survivors guilt, He thought maybe he could
help Alyssa and Greyson and maybe become a family with them (Austins widow) but Nate came along and that didnt work out. The only good
that came from Nate showing up was a chance to win a year membership with the Havoc gym and a chance to fight in the upcoming tournament
Trick does extremely well in the cage and ends up on the winning team with Havoc, This tournament is held in Florida where Trick's estranged father lives with his new wife and family. A family he met once 8 years ago. When his father invites him to visit and stay for a wedding Trick decides maybe things have changed between his father and him. (We find out later how this comes about) The night after the tournament Trick, Axe, Alex and Luke hit the clubs, where Trick picks up Mina, After they hook up out in the alley Mina leaves and Trick feels again that he is just not good enough for anyone. When he gets to his dads house the next day he is STUNNED to find that Mina is actually his stepsister. Be forewarned this book deals with some extremely horrific sexual abuse. Mina is so strong it amazes me. what she has dealt with from her stepfather is horrible but to protect her younger sister and her little brother from her stepfather the way she does. UGH. I cried my eyes out during this book Trick absolutely tore my heart out. I was so so glad to read this story. Trick will be one of my favorites from now on in this series. I cannot wait for the next book!!!!

Trick is Dark, Steamy, and Amazing!
Goodness! “Trick,” Book 7 of Lane Hart’s Cocky Cage Fighters MMA romance series, is dark, intense, and oh so amazing. When Patrick first made an appearance in Book 6, I was certain he was going to be a presence. Trick, as his Havoc crew calls him, is a broody, sexy military vet - a loner who takes up cage fighting to both work out his aggression and earn money. After having his heart dented when his friend, Alyssa, chose his teammate over him, Trick makes an attempt to reconnect with his long-absent father and his stepfamily, only to discover that his father’s money is covering up some twisted stuff! After a chance, anonymous encounter with a beautiful young woman outside of a club, Trick finds himself embroiled in his stepsister Mina’s personal nightmare. Mina is a stunning young woman - self-sacrificing, kind, and falling quickly for the stepbrother she’s never had the opportunity to know. The sexy bits are there, as are the MMA action and comic relief, but this one is so much more than that. As always, Hart gives us an amazing read, and the subject matter is treated with respect. Familiar characters - aka the Havoc family - come through to remind Trick that he’s no longer alone, and the author hammers home the fact that our family is who we choose rather than who we’re related to. I’m starting to lose count of all the stars I wish I could give to this series!

Sexual Assault survivors may be triggered

Shit! This book goes from sexy, pulse throbbing moments to pieces of a puzzle that lead to horrific, tear jerking moments where you just want to jump into the book and pulverize a perverted sicko where screaming for Patrick to get to Mina before she has to endure more pain, fear and humiliation.
For those who have experienced survivors guilt, sexual assault or abuse of any kind will most likely be able to relate to the various emotions and thoughts one goes through but thankfully the way the characters are able to remain unbroken help you feel like there’s hope and that MAYBE Fate really may have a reason for being and evil bitch if we hang on long enough and not let the darkness swallow us up. Not sure...one can only hope and try to keep moving forward, keep breathing, keep looking up and do something to help someone else can help to take back some control and reenforce the goodness in life and oneself. Really glad I kept reading this book, it may have helped pull me from the darkness for a little longer.
I love that this author delves into some really dark/complicated shit but also keeps injecting light in different forms to help you not fall into the abyss.

Such a raw, gritty, powerful story Lane Hart tells in Trick and Mina's story. This one about broke my heart while I was trying to read through the tears. Two damaged individuals. One a military veteran who served honorably and comes home only to struggle to fit in and survive as a civilian. The other the victim of long term emotional, physical and sexual abuse. Those are hard rows to hoe for those living through it and a tough pill to swallow for those receiving the information second hand but Lane Hart has used such compassion and empathy, giving her characters the strength and dignity to come out the other side with their own happily ever after. This is not just an story for entertainment. This story could be a life changer for anyone going through similar circumstances. There are phone numbers, web sites and other information as contact. This story and these characters deliver hope, strength of character, and belief in the possibility of true happiness. How awe inspiring is that?

Lane Hart you've really out done yourself with this one!
The feels!

This one is really different from the other Cocky Cage Fighters books.
It has some strong subjects that really make you feel sorry for Mina.
She has it rough bless her.
And she's only 20!
She's a year younger than me and she's been through so much crap you want to take her out of the book and hug her.

Trick i really liked him when we met him in Nates book, you probably wasn't meant to but i like him.
In this book he has his own problems and he just wants a night where he can forget and that's where he see's Mina.
She beautiful and down to earth and someone who's actually taking a intrest in him.

I loved most of the characters in this book, obviously not the ones your not meant to like.
Them ones need throat punching.
By Kangroo Jack.
On steroids.

But really this book was amazing like every other Lane Hart book!
You honestly won't want to miss this one!

A little bit heavier than the rest of the series--but so addictive. Trick is a strong alpha male that we met in Nate's book. But Mina was even more impressive. Her inner strength is an inspiration.

The author handled the crimes of the father in a very dignified way. There was just enough on the pages to make me want to reach through the pages and save her. It was never over the top or made me feel uncomfortable.

Trick and Mina have a really unique relationship. Honestly, this is the first step brother genre that I have been able to read. They never new each other. They didn't know who the really were when they had the rough and tumble. After that Trick didn't care. He would fight for her. He would care for her. He would be there when he was needed and even when he wasn't.

This was a gut wrenching, heart ripping, soul crushing story. Yes there were some sexy moments and even some crazy sweet moments too, but the horrible sexual, emotional, and physical abuse that Mina suffers for years is very hard to read about. She feels so lost and hopeless at times that its hard to keep reading. This was a much heavier book than the others in the series. I hope that the next one eases things a bit to get the balance back.

As hard as this story was to read at times it showed the strength and determination of a survivor. I was amazed at Mina's ability to keep going day after day. Trick is a very loyal man who tends to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders not realizing that he is not as alone as he thinks he is. The only reason for the one star being gone is the stepbrother angle. Those just arent my thing but this was an amazing book.

I was given an ARC in exchange of a honest review.
I am happy to have read this book just after the previous one, without letting pass much time. I think that through the whole series "Nate" and "Trick" are especially linked, so reading them in sequence is important.
This book is not centered of cage fights, in fact fighting is mentioned but you will not "assist" to big fights as in the other books of the series. In this book however, the author touches some hard themes as war, guilt, death, violence and the characters are beautifully developed. They break, come apart, grow together again throughout the book. Both the hero and the heroine face their inner turmoil and demons. At the end the characters learn to be there for each other and the big family of Havoc is there too.

It was very very good! Tho it did bother me a little bit the fact that Mina, suffered from sexual abuse for so long, yet two days after being raped once again, she was happy as a cucumber (it seemed to me) and ready for a friend's wedding... That sounded quite unusual for someone who suffered for so many years of abuse, and when she told her sister, she (the sister) didn't demonstrate much emotion... Yes she did in another scene, but half an hour later she also seemed happy as a cucumber... I mean yes I understand, she suffered so much but didn't let that break her, and later she goes to a psychiatrist, but it all seemed so unrealistic? Still I did devour the book in one night because it was so good, so it just those details that made a bit queasy. Still I loved Patrick and Mina together.

This was a great story just like the rest of them in this series and I could not get enough of it once I started reading. The plot was a little darker than the others in this series as Mina was suffering in an abusive relationship to protect her younger siblings and Patrick (Trick) was working through his survivor's guilt as well as his own demons from his upbringing. I had a hard time putting this book down as I could not get enough and needed to see where the story was going but in the end I was so not disappointed even wading through the emotional rollercoaster the characters had to endure. I would recommend this book to others!

I couldn't put this book down!! So Good!!!

If you have not read a book by Lane Hart you are seriously missing out!!!
I have read and loved every single book in the Cocky Cage Fighters Series and they just kept getting better and better.
This book was so flipping good!!
Trick is lost after his best friend is killed in combat.
He decides to head home for his stepsister's wedding.
The last thing he expects is the rollercoaster of events and the beautiful Mina that he finds.
This story had all the feels.
The angst and intensity were heart clenching.
The twists and turns of the plot were addictive.
I couldn't put this book down!!

All the feels

This book is really intense. And if you have had any sexual abuse in your past, this book won't be for you. This book will make you feel deep down to your bones. In the previous book in the Cocky Cage Fighter series you learn a few things about Trick and you start to get a feel for him. In "his" book you learn more about his past and boy, does it make your heart ache. This book is a good one if you can get past the sexual abuse, at some points it was difficult for me, but I kept going. And I didn't regret it.

I absolutely loved this book. It is one of a series of MMA series. Trick is introduced in the book before as the man you love to hate. But in this book, WOW!! He is the protector, the lover, the big brother, and the hero. He saves his step sister and falls in love in the process! Mina, the stepdaughter, has terrible secrets she keeps from everyone. Patrick is the one and there are many twists and turns to their happy ending!! A must read!!

Not your average fairy tale

When Patrick aka Trick wins his fights in Florida he decides to go see his father and family after. Before he goes he has a night at a night club with his fighting buddies. Where he sees Mina. The attraction is instant and strong. A quick hit round of hot sex and she leaves him high and dry. Until the next day when they meet again. Not an ideal second meeting. This book has abuse in it. Not ideal for all readers. But a good story.

Patrick is a former soldier trying to make his way through the fighter MMA world. Wilhelmina is about to marry a man she didn’t love. One night she crosses path of Patrick in a club, this night will change everything for the both of them.

I wasn't expecting such an emotional heart wrenching, roller coaster. A definitely must read.

Honestly, I had a hard time reading this story, but it’s worth reading to the end.

WOW!!!
This series, I just couldn't put it down. I love MMA and Cage fighter books, but these ones... They blew me away. Each one was a new and exciting story.
5 incredible stars! This is by far my favorite but is THIS BOOK IS INTENDED FOR MATURE AUDIENCES 18 + ONLY. THE STORY CONTAINS ADULT LANGUAGE AND EXPLICIT SEX SCENES, including sexual assault scenes that could trigger emotional distress.

Wow

That was some book, this one was about Patrick from the previous book. Got to find out alot more about him and what mace him tick. It was quite an emotional book dealing with extreme sensitive issues but I felt the author dealt with this very well. Absolutely loving these cocky cage fighters who have a story to tell.
