It is more of a government report than a book. It is still, quite an interesting read unlike the government report of today. The quality of words and even the data visualisation is quite stunning. One the can see the foundations of the India its current institutions in the book. Upto a certain extent the same for Pakistan and the conflict between the two in this volume. Being a government report and a given the times it was written it does seem at times to be biased. But one comes across many facts and figures hitherto not widely published in the mainstream media.
Though it might seem to be an account of partition and there after it. It goes beyond it and becomes more of a report on the government response and on the formation of new government institutions, from old like the military and new like citizenship etc. I would suggest it for anyone interested in Indian's history and in government affairs.
