“Normal” is something I could only dream of being called. “Mental” or “screwed up” is what I’m labeled. But actually feeling other people’s pain does that to a girl. I’m not an empath. I’m crazy! That is until I meet one guy who makes it all go away. The problem is, he’s even crazier than me. At least I thought that in the beginning before the coincidences became undeniable. But, if what he was saying were true, he would not only become my savior, he would also open my eyes to a world filled with angels, demons, witches, and an ancient curse that I’m caught smack bang in the middle of. Either way, I already knew he’d be the death of me.
I can't imagine how Lu feels and endures all those negative emotions which leads her to committing suicide all the time - so sad!
I couldn't wait to find out more - why is it happening? Who is she? I was so excited to read more!
Once I started, I could not stop reading! I just wanted more and more! So addicting, it just drags you away from reality and takes you on a thrilling ride! I did not want this novel to end! Such a fast read.
This book reminds me of Fallen by Lauren Kate. All of you Fallen fans should definitely read Severed Wings. So good, alluring and dark!
Full of emotion, mystery, romance, curses, soul collectors, soul scrapers, succubi and witches.
I love books on angels and the supernatural. Lucy is an interesting character. How she deals with her curse isn't something I would normally recommend, but I can understand why she feels the need to die. I think if I was her I would be moving to some far off place like Antarctica.
Marcus is a bit harder to understand since his pov isn't seen. I like him though. He is a tough fallen Soul Collector but he has a soft spot for Lucy. I love the attraction between these two and the mystery of their situation. I am definitely reading this series.
I’m not sure what to say about this book. I pretty much forced myself to read it and finish it. I didn’t like the beginning talking about a girl who is Constantly trying to end her life. It should explain first that she has some sort of “ability” where she feels everyones emotions. But her parents don’t believe her so she gets sent to a rehab where she meets a mysterious guy whom she’s seen in her dreams. Somehow they are inlove with each other she signs herself out of rehab and runs away with him. But nothing good starts to happen until the end of the book. I enjoyed the characters but I’m not sure About where this story is going
Severed Wings by Kelly Carrero is a story about a young woman by the name of Zoe. Zoe has some issues that she struggles with on a daily basis that makes life hard for her and she just really doesn’t know how to cope. She can feel the pain of others around her – their fears, their needs and it all affects her to the point of where more often than not it’s overwhelming. But there’s more. Zoe doesn’t believe that her name is Zoe so she changes her name to Lucy, short for Lucinda. Her father is a public figurehead so her mother is always trying to smooth over the incidents with Lucy (Zoe) as best she can so that the world will think that she (the mother) really cares when she doesn’t. Lucy manages to go to a farm to try and deal with her issues because the other option really isn’t one that she wants to deal with so she’d rather avoid it as best she can. But while there she meets a young man by the name of Marcus. When she’s around Marcus she doesn’t get all of the overwhelming emotions that she feels from the others. Instead what she feels is an overwhelming sense of not only peace but love. This confuses her because the rational part of her mind says that she barely knows him but the truth is is that she has dreamed of him for years…so what does it all mean? Severed Wings is the first book that I have read written by Kelly Carrero. This is an interesting story about a young woman who is dealing with some issues that have people wanting to label her in a negative light and not really believe her when she tells them that she can feel other people’s emotions…but amplified to the point of where it becomes unbearable unless she distracts herself. The story focuses a lot on this for well over half of the story line. She’s really struggling but when she sees Marcus for the first time she feels that there is something familiar about him and when she sees him she recognizes him from her dreams. What she doesn’t know yet is that there is more than meets the eye not only about him but about another that is there at the farm with her. If I had to classify this book I would call it a “coming of age, supernatural romance.” I’d tentatively call it a romance because for the majority of the book the focus is on Lucy as she struggles to cope and then when Marcus enters the picture she struggles to understand the dynamics of what is going on and why it is that she feels the way that she does when she’s around him. I was a bit disappointed that the supernatural/paranormal element is so long in coming into the storyline. While I understand the concept of focusing on Lucy’s issues I would have liked a glimpse into the minds of the others around her as well especially in light of the fact that she knows what it is that they are feeling and experiencing. When the supernatural/paranormal element finally comes into the play the story begins to pick up it’s pace a bit and become more engaging. I also appreciate how the author gets around to tying in the title of the story in with the story itself as to why it has this name. As the supernatural/paranormal element comes into play more you get to encounter a couple more engaging characters for sure which add to the story itself making you want to read more and be drawn in even more. All in all I enjoyed reading Severed Wings. I just wish that the pace had been a little quicker to engage the reader more into the story and that the paranormal/supernatural element hadn’t been so long in getting to. Overall I rate this book 4 out of 5 stars. It holds a lot of promise and has quite a bit of depth for sure. The author definitely is promising and this is a unique book for those who wish to read it. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
Reminded me a lot of Fallen (which I loved!) but the one part I enjoyed even more than Fallen was the intimacy between Marcus and Lucy/Zoe/Luciana. Yes, there was the instant love but it didn't bother me so much. Not a stand alone book for sure. I'm looking forward to the next book.......as long as there is no love triangle!!!!
Lucy feels everyone's bad emotions. Why? When she is sent to rehab, there she meets Marcus who changes everything. Yet, is Lucy safe? Or will she always feel everyone's negative emotions? Love it! Another excellent novel from Kelly Carrero! I can't wait for book two!
In this intriguing, four-book series, we meet Luciana, a suicidal girl who thinks she’s crazy, but who soon discovers that she’s anything but. In fact, even though most people have her labeled as nuts, she really is an empath, and a cursed one at that! Doomed to repeat her life of suffering over and over again — like some twisted version of Groundhog Day — Luciana soon discovers that this lifetime is different. Somehow, she’s remembering her past lives, and as she begins to piece together the mysteries of her jaded, tortuous pasts, she also learns that her story is intrinsically tied to a handsome man who haunts her dreams.
Marcus is the drop-dead gorgeous, strong, silent type, which isn’t usually Luciana’s thing, but there’s something dark and alluring about him that calls upon her soul, and whenever he’s around, all of her empathetic pain mysteriously disappears. It’s an experience, she quickly realizes, that’s familiar, because she and Marcus have met before, in different lifetimes. He is her soulmate — the man she was literally created for — and so, with the help of some colorfully witty friends, they embark upon a journey to discover the truth behind her curse, both hopeful that this time around, they’ll finally sever their ties to the past and get to live their happily ever after.
It’s a journey that is well-worth the read! The author not only does an amazing job of creating real, gritty characters that you can’t help but root for, but she also weaves together a beautifully crafted world that has plenty of action, suspense, and just the right amount of romance to keep you captivated until the very end of the series.
An interesting take on an angel falling for a human! Definitely recommend it!
I was afraid this would be similar to other stories where angels fall for a human and lose their wings. This was different though. Luciana, the human, is an empath that feels everyone's negative emotions. She tries repeatedly to kill herself and is saved every time. Finally she is sent to a facility where she meets Marcus. She feels a connection to him. She has also dreamt of him for most of her life. Turns out there is more to their story. Luciana makes the story. Marcus is standard angel. Lucy is so much more. I recommend it for teens and up. Only thing I didn't like is it ends on a cliffhanger. Thankfully, the next books are available.
Overall, I'm intrigued by the storyline. Even though I read something similar to the story, which I can't remember the title, I still loved the mystery behind Zoe's curse. It hooked me from the beginning to the end of this book, desperately trying to figure out why she's cursed and how to end it.
The instant love in the story between Zoe and Marcus is cringe-worthy, but it's understandable because this time, Zoe came back differently - She remembers her previous love life with Marcus. So, I'll pardon that 😉. I hope I can read more about their previous life story.
Mysterious and thrilling. I was pulled in from the first chapter curious as to what was going on. I loved the twist and turns the story took and I'm definitely looking forward to the next book. The characters were interesting and I hope to discover more about them. Marcus and Zoe/Lucy are enjoyable to read and root for. I do with there was a bit more depth but hopefully that'll be uncovered in the next book as well. I voluntarily reviewed an arc from the author.
Great beginning of the series. From first chapter we are lut insied very stresful situation and after IT we start discovering news things, what was Nice introducion to world was in second half (very read but i promise it's great ;) ) Main characters are realy likeable and you could feel the conection! Also one female hot my attention and i hope there will be more of here ;) For me i would love to get one Chapter in Marcus head ;) Great YA!
Well as the title states i was pleasantly surprised at this book. I honest wasnt expecting much when i read it. In the beginning i admit it was a bit slow but then it picked up and it surprised me to realise i was enjoying this book. While it wont make my favs list its still a worth while read. The plot was so different to most i have read before. It was intriguing and left me curious for more.
Lucy feels the bad emotions that plague those around her. Unable to deal with these feelings, she repeatedly tries to take her own life. After finally agreeing to rehab, she finds more than therapy and coping mechanisms when she agrees to rehab. Another patient promises her answers and the possibility of relief. The storyline is intriguing, but the character is a teenage girl with an over abundance of emotions which can be a little tedious to read about.
I had a hard time getting into this book, it was slow on getting to the heart of the book. Got interesting closer to end of book. I did buy book 2 to this series, hoping the second book is quicker to capture my complete interest, if not I won't buy book 3, but thought it worth trying book 2 before writing them all off.
Oh my gosh! What a fantastic read! This is the first book I've read by this author, and it certainly won't be the last. It was so much fun! Seriously, when is the next book coming out??? I NEED IT NOW!!
Started out really great. Ended with a lot of eye rolling. It quickly evolved into a reincarnation insta love story, don't trust anyone but the person you met one second ago and love so much...blah blah blah.
This story is about a girl named Zoe. Unfortunately she has a lot of issues surrounding her that make her sad. A lovely read even though it's sad. I just couldn't put it down and definitely ready for more stories by this fantastic author. Received an ARC.
Good story, are friends - friends or enemies. Could have better end, rather than cliff hanger. Story could have multiple future leads with the current most prominent ending but alternatives, leading on.
I really like this type of book, fated souls, lifetimes of love, supernaturals, that sort of thing. This book has all of that. The book is well edited. Looking forward to book 2
This book had me very interested from the beginning. So much so that I stopped reading the series I was reading. It does ring familiar to another series I finished. I hope this one surprises me.
This is a slow moving story. I am just aa clueless at the end as I was in the beginning. Not much was revealed, It does however keep you interested but I like a little more from this kind of Story.
Loved the storyline. Not what I expected at all. I expected it to be your everyday Angel love story with a human and it and it surprised me. Can't wait to read the next one
Probably would have enjoyed this if I'd been 13-15, but, alas, the main character's insecurity really made it hard to find this enjoyable. Thought it'd get better by the end, but it didn't. Interesting premise, though -- quite cool.
This is my first book by this author and it held my attention fully. I loved the new concepts she formed of some of the characters. Can't wait to read book 2.
