doubtful remembering details & waiting for them to happen, also forgetting some & saw them suddenly, were exciting. I love re-reading!

& the spark of this cute ship, I always coupled these two.

حالا درباره ی خود داستان؛ همونطور که از جلد های قبل به یادم مونده بود لذت بخش و دلنشین بود. نثر روون، شخصیت هایی که راحت می تونید باهاشون ارتباط بگیرید و فضا و دنیایی که همیشه یه چیز شگفت انگیز و جدید داره. به عنوان یک کتاب middle grade فوق العاده دوستش دارم.

این جلد رو خیلی دوست داشتم. داستان نهر و آبی که آدم‌های بدطینت رو مجازات می‌کنه واقعا جذاب بود.
به نظرم این مجموعه‌ایه که باید حتما هر بچه‌ای بخونه. همدلی، مهربانی، شجاعت و شرافت در این مجموعه به شدت پررنگن و داستان ساده اما محکمه، تازه کوتاه هم هستش و زود تموم می‌شه. به نظرم اگر کودکی نزدیکتون دارین این مجموعه گزینه‌ی امنی برای پیشنهاده.

wooo a new fav in the series - i reallllly enjoyed this one i ate it up nom nom nom

i didn’t expect to like this one as much as i did tbh, but as soon as we got the the dreaming spring (literally 2 pages in😭), i was intrigued and hooked. the whole story felt a lot more connected compared to the others i’ve read so far, which made it run smoothly and everything felt like it had more meaning.

the water of the dreaming spring is such a fun concept?? i want magical water that will let me dream teleport to wherever i want to in real time. are u kidding me??? but it’s also a bit creepy because you never know who could be watching you at any time - but we can ignore that part

also the water turns you into a TREEEEEE if you’re evil. there is a whole garden of human trees that were evil. i wonder what would happen if you chopped them all down - does the spell break or do they just die (but the tree isnt even alive technically)

seeing that jarred has been captured??? our home is GONE. this shifted everything - this entire story feels like the turning point of the series. the characters are forced to grow up even more (including little one prin 🥹), the stakes are much higher now that the shadow lord is on our trail, and jarred has actually been captured. i’m enjoying this shift in tone heaps more

hearing jarred realise that his son is alive and succeeding and his pure happiness was so wholesome but i worry for his safety. because this is a kids series i have the hope that he will survive to the end since he’s a main character, but at the same time the story has not shied away from gruesome deaths thus far

the kin!!! <3 love love them. they have such a safe aura and i immediately ticked them off as trustworthy. i do hope they will play a role in the finale perhaps because they are such interesting creatures with so much power but so much kindness at the same time. ALSO WE TRAVELLED IN THEIR POUCHESSSS i would do anything to be cozied up in a warm pouch rn

doom???? he is such a mysterious man. the sign we saw at kinrest was a bit confusing because of jasmines pov. jasmine immediately assumed that doom was the one that killed the real doom and then stole his name. but my instinctual view was that doom is the one that wants to avenge the real doom? idk i didn’t get bad vibes from that, and i still believe doom is a good guy (or maybe im biased because mysterious powerful fictional men will always have my heart)

pRIN NEARLY DIED AND THAT SCARED ME. and also JASMINE NEARLY DIED??? emily rodd played with my feelings with this one, talk about higher stakes geez (also now we have no nectar and i fear this is going to screw us up badly in the future)

vraal - cool creature, hardly got to see you though. so powerful, but it just slithered away after some poison goo??? we were told it wouldn’t last that long but it just never came back😔

i liked the gnomes, i did really feel bad for them. they aren’t the brightest bunch, just a group of haha hehe people who were minding their own business for their whole life until a big fat toad came and fooled them😭 if they were even the slightest bit smarter i don’t see how they could’ve believed that the toad was on their side and now the shadow lord, but alas they aren’t the brightest

WHEN WE GOT TRAPPED IN THE MOUNTAIN😫 i felt so claustrophobic - hATED that.

gellick our big fat toad was actually a pretty good villian. he posed a decent threat and had a huge impact, so i can’t even complain. but was i giggling at the fact that he really is just a big frog who wants to eat flies all day.. maybe🥲

the story did a good job at answering some questions though. i was wondering where the poison came from that the grey guards were using and just told myself there must be some sort of mage conjuring up these potions. but nope its our big friends poison that the gnomes were unknowingly supplying to the shadow lord (im still dying to meet him)

side note: as much as i trust and like dooms character there’s a little voice in my head that worries that he IS the shadow lord. i am hoping this is completely wrong and he is not that good at living a double life

WE SAID GOODBYE TO THE KIN??? i was hoping prin would come along with us tbh, she was actually very useful surprisingly. she was forced to grow up as well, but hey welcome to the real world

My Review - be warned, there will be spoilers!!

The Writing
I was kept glued to its pages from beginning to end! Very fast-paced and action-packed! I felt like the writing and the pacing were much improved in this installment compared to the other two I've previously read.

The Plot
Ok, when the heroes come into contact with the denizens within the Dread Mountain, they learn that the Shadow Lord is finally getting suspicious that his precious gems are being collected and his allies are being killed off one by one, so by the time our heroes face off against the monster in Dread Mountain, Gellick, the monster toad who enslaves the Gnomes within the mountain to do his bidding is aware of that someone or a group of people are after the gem he's guarding and very boastful he is the Shadow Lord's number one ally (hahaha!)

Characters

New characters are introduced:

* The Kin (a flying animal, that is a hybrid between a dragon and a kangaroo lol) who were forced to leave Dread Mountain 16 years ago as they were being killed off by the Gnomes who allied themselves with the Shadow Lord and Gellick and been forced to live a shadow existence, stuck in their own dreams of their lost home.

They guard the Dreaming Spring where they encounter Leif, Barda, and Jasmine and the former befriends the youngest Kin, Prin, who doesn't dream as she only knows the Dreaming Spring and longs to see her family's home: Dread Mountain.

Oh, Prin, is also very stubborn, willful, and adventurous but is very doted on by her family as she is the only child born since the Kin were forced to flee, so it was great to see some character growth in a side character, also nice to see that the heroes are exercising some caution and patience, especially Lief who normally charges full steam ahead without thought, would like to see some more character growth in the others, though Barda's slowly warming up to his younger companions, even joking with them, so that's adorable.

We witness a vision that Lief has of his father, whose been captured and interrogated on Leif's whereabouts by the Shadow Lord's flunkies, obviously, Leif is concerned for his parent's safety and well-being and is ready to abandon the mission but both Barda and Jasmine convince Leif to stick to his convictions and stay on course.

Overall
I enjoyed this a lot more than the last two I previously read, the final showdown was good and well written, how that is done, well read on, won't give it away!

I guess I'm hoping that there will be more consequences for our heroes considering that the Shadow Lord is aware now that his plan to keep the Belt of Deltora dismantled so his reign remains unchallenged, I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop, a confrontation to occur and I've been thinking on who the true heir is, but I don't wanna say just yet.

Like Lake of Tears, this is a weaker book in the series for me. Not bad at all, though. The main characters are still enjoyable, there are some fun new side characters, and there’s some good worldbuilding here that adds to the world of Deltora. However, nothing really stood out as all that noteworthy to me. It’s a decent book but not one of the best ones so far.

This book starts with our heroes leaving the Shifting Sands and heading to Dread Mountain, to get the fifth of the seven gems needed to complete the Belt of Deltora. After travelling through sparse plains with little to no shield against potential spies from the Shadow Lord, they come across a natural spring of water (and an odd warning), thinking nothing of it after Kree and Filli (their animal companions) drink from the spring and receive no ill effects, the drink from the pool and quickly fall asleep; dreaming of home (in Leif's case) or of friends (in Barda's case). Upon waking, Leif finds and makes a friend in Prim, a young Kin (which, from my understanding, is kinda like a dog/kangaroo/dragon cross? As in... awesome and loyal like a dog, with dog-like features, but with a pouch like a kangaroo, and with the size and wings of a dragon?) and makes quick friends with her before she is captured by Grey Guards. These guards then drink from the pool and end up turning into giant trees... because apparently that's what happens to those of "evil" who drink from said pool. Okay. Sure.

Anyways, after becoming friends with the rest of the Kin, our heroes receive a ride to Dread Mountain (and a tag-along in the form of Prim who wants to finally see the home that the Kin were once driven from). There, they come across a few new enemies such as the Vraal (which I've seen pictures of... and it's creepy as hell), the Dread Gnomes, and the awful giant toad (that's on the cover) known as Gellick; who is guarding the next gem (an emerald).

The battle against Gellick was definitely better done than the one against the Hive in the Shifting Sands - for one, there was an actual battle this time! Finding out that the deadly poison in the blister packs that the Grey Guards carry was actually the venom that basically oozed out of Gellick (and... ew...) was an interesting take, though as a result it didn't go too well when our heroes attempted to use said blisters to take out Gellick... Luckily, Leif had some of that magic water handy, because now Gellick is no longer a giant toad but instead a giant tree. MUCH better 8'D

Anyways... Onto book #6!

This is my favorite books in the series. It you out meeting one some of the weirdest characters in the Deltora Quest series. These giant animals are called Kin. They are large dragon like creatures. It starts out with a young one named Prin who takes a liking to Lief. Lief finds a dream well with magic water. When he goes to sleep he can go wherever he want to see whats happening and finds out his parents have been captured, but he can't do anything to help them. He then goes to the Mountain to find the other gem. I don't think they should have taken Prin because she is just a child. Since the monster toad leading the goblins is dead I think they will become less hostile towards everyone. I hope the Shadow Lord won't notice that the poison that they are giving the troops is really water until they have already dealt with him.

I recommend this book to middle school boys and girls who like fantasy. The main characters of the book are boys and girls, so it fits either. The book is a fairly easy read, so it should fit most middle school students.

Dread Mountain is a very solid book. I gave it four out of five stars because it was a good book but not perfect. I liked the new characters that were brought into the book. There was a lot of action once they reached Dread Mountain. We learned a lot about some of the characters met in the previous books. Dread Mountain was a all around good book.

This is the fifth book in the Deltora Quest series. Be sure to read the previous books, The Forests of Silence, The Lake of Tears, City of the Rats, and The Shifting Sands, prior to reading this one.

In Dread Mountain, the trio travel to Dread Mountain in search of the fifth gem in the Belt of Deltora, the emerald. Upon arriving at the mountain, they learn of the Hatfields and McCoys styled feud between two groups, the Kin and the Dread Gnomes. As was the case in the previous areas that the trio passed through, the Shadow Lord's minions had managed to turn the residents of the area against one another.

There was one line at the end of the book that stood out, in terms of the overall story.

“I feared the worst,” said Fa-Glin to a crowd of listeners, for the dozenth time. “I thought we were lost. Then Lief of Del wrought his great magic, and in an instant all was changed.”

Doesn't this sound like the first King of Deltora, who crafted the Belt of Deltora? Overall, a fine story.

My 9-year old neighbour and I are reading the whole Delta Quest series together. I am enjoying the books as much as she is!
They are well written and filled with imaginative plot twists.

They also support the values of friendship, loyalty and honor. I would recommend Dread Mountain, and all the other books in the series to anyone who is interested in fantasy literature.

This book opens up another part of Deltora for the reader and introduces us to some new races. We meet the Kin, who I think of as like flying wombats, and we meet gnomes, who are allied with the Shadow Lord. I loved the Kin and hope they make a return appearance. Prin, a young member of the Kin, is one of those characters that steals the show.

Danger is building for our three heroes, as the Shadow Lord has come to learn of their earlier triumphs. The evil creature in the caves, Gellick, already knew who they were, so we must assume now that the journey is only going to grow tougher each day. But that's not all that will make the journey harder, for Lief learns that his parents are now captives of the Shadow Lord, but he cannot rush to save them. His own mission is more important.

Emily Rodda develops this story like a pro, with great character growth and a well planned story arc. I'm enjoying the series a lot.

This was a great next step on Lief’s journey around Deltora. As the group continues onwards and their success increases, so does the danger that they find themselves in. This time, they find themselves meeting mysterious legends, finding the true story of Doom’s past and solving the mystery of the Grey Guards’ blister balls.

I loved the Kin – they’re a gorgeous kangaroo-type creature that is believed extinct, and help Lief, Barda and Jasmine on their journey in a fantastic manner. As with everything on this journey, there is a sense of destiny and fate in the path that they take. Not only are they able to uncover the fifth gem, but they also dismantle another one of the Shadowlords plans and schemes. This journey is no longer just about finding the seven gems of the belt, but also showing the extent of the Shadowlords dark tyranny.

I loved the ease with which this book could be read. Yes, I know that it is aimed at a younger generation, but it is the perfect book for late at night when I can’t sleep, but still want to read. It’s easy, fun and has just enough mystery that you still have to think while turning from page to page.

SN: I remember loving this series when I was a kid but I don't remember if I actually finished it. I might have moved on to another series by the time the last book was published. So here goes my attempt at rereading the entire thing!

The Kin are probably my favorite things ever. I loved how this book expanded on the world-building that's slowly been taking place in the previous book. Plus, I love a good puzzle and this one has one of those puzzles that I remember trying to recreate when I was younger.

Mam ogromny sentyment do tej serii, w końcu zaczęłam ja czytać mając osiem lat! Miło wrócić do tych postaci i poznać tą część historii, której nigdy nie znałam, ale jest jeden zgrzyt - dla dorosłego czytelnika jest to po prostu zbyt proste, zbyt przewidywalne, za mało rozbudowane. Nie wspomnę już o tym, że okładki to masakryczny spoiler, bo zdradzają zakończenie i największy plot twist histori...

Poza tym - naprawdę dobrze się bawię i niecierpliwie czekam, żeby dowiedzieć się, co będzie dalej i jak ta przygoda się skończy!

Oh my my this one ATE!!! The baddie was so yucky and girthy and made me wanna 🤮 the way he SPAT at people was 🤢

I really liked how the main three worked together with the gnomes to bring down the baddie. Really shows camaraderie and how the true villain is the Shadow Lord, not each other!

The kin were also SOOO cute god I just wanted to SQUISH them so bad. Anyways the books just get better and better, especially as we see how the overarching plot begins to weave together.

this is my favorite in the series so far!! the plot is more deliberate. to me, it feels like more of a direct continuation of the last book than past installments have been.

I love how everything comes together and appreciate the relevance of past events (jarred's character returning, for example). the characters seem to be maturing a bit as well.

I love the kin, and prin is one of my favorite characters. gellick is my favorite of the monsters they've defeated so far, and the spring water coming into play was satisfying.

Sama kayak di City of The Rats, pertarungan dengan Final Boss pun berlangsung kilat. Tapi karena ketegangan sebelumnya udah bikin nyesek, plus cara Lief mengalahkan Gellick si kodok beracun itu begitu taktis, keseruannya sama sekali tidak berkurang karena pendeknya durasi pertarungan. Justru terlihat cerdas!

Bagian favoritku? Tentu saja waktu Lief ketemu Prin of Kin yang bisa bicara. Entah kenapa aku bayangin dia berbentuk kaya salah satu pokemon. Haha.

Tenho um carinho enorme por esse livro, que foi o 2º de Deltora que li, mas eu não lembrava quão BOM ele é! Desde o início a gente fica envolvido pelas situações, pela aventura, pelos locais mágicos que os protagonistas conhecem e pela mitologia desses lugares. É o melhor livro desde As Florestas do Silêncio, e acredito que só perde para O Retorno a Del. Mal posso esperar pela releitura dos próximos!

I give this book 4,5 stars. I loved the Kins. The best creatures in this series till this point. I really loved this one. The creatures were just fantastic. The world was interesting. Also the dream aspect was very interesting. Just love this part. Not yet 5 stars because I found this one too short. I would’ve wanted it to go on for a bit longer.

خوب هرچی جلوتر میره داستان بهتر میشه جزییات بیشتر میشه و قطعاتی از جلدهای پیشین معلوم میشه که جذاب‌تره
تا به اینجا به نظرم شخصیت اصلی لیف وارث هست ولی بعضی مواقع به جاسمین هم مشکوک میشم که خوب همینش جذابه
بازم شانس نقش زیادی تو موفقیت شون داره ولی همین که خودشون قبول دارند خوبه🤣
تا اینجا از ۵ جلد که لذت بردیم تا ببینیم تهش چی میشه
