IAN WILSON IS BACK Ian Wilson thought he was finished with the PSNI. However, he is persuaded to come back to lead a murder squad with extra responsibilities. Gang boss Sammy Rice is still missing and there are new team members to integrate. Then information comes to light on the burial place of one of the ‘disappeared’. The raising of the body and the subsequent investigation threatens to expose one of Ulster’s darkest secrets. This is the sixth book in the Ian Wilson series.Wilson investigates murder in the boilerhouse that is modern day Belfast, a city still emerging from a violent past. In a situation where crime and politics are often intertwined, Wilson and his new team must have their finger on the pulse of the city and tread a careful investigative path. Yield `Up the Dead continues to set the bar for Northern Irish noir. If you like hard-boiled and compelling detective fiction you are sure to find Wilson a character you will identify with and like. Reviewers have already likened Wilson to John Rebus.
I was born in Ireland and after graduating in engineering and business I decided that I wanted to see the world. With Shell International Petroeum and the National Iranian Oil Company I worked in England, Holland and Iran. As an international diplomat I lived in Belgium, Malta, Kenya and Zambia. I had the great good fortune to have a career which fulfilled all my travel desires. Since retiring in 2011, I have been living on the West Coast of Ireland and I've been writing full time. I love reading and concentrate on thrillers and history.
Ian Wilson is just a bit too perfect in many ways, but I am attached to him.
These are not standalone books, you really should read entire series, otherwise you'll be lost. Even then you might be a bit lost, at least this American is - the hatred in Northern Ireland is just so confusing to us, although this particular book explained it really well.
4.5 stars. This is one of the best books in this series. Quite interesting. I think it is better than the book that follows it which I accidentally read first. One thing I think this and several other series needs is a 1 or 2 page summary of the important events in previous books that are referred to in the present one. Up to several years may pass between books when I am up to date in reading a series and this would help me to understand what was happening.
I have read all Ian Wilson novels and really enjoy them. Yield Up the Dead brings a lot of closure plus a new beginning. I heartily recommend reading the entire series in order. Derek Fee is a fine author, and his incorporation of the history of " the Troubles" of Northern Ireland make for fascinating reading. I look forward to reading more of his novels.
I love all of this series and cannot wait for the next installment. I like the fact that I never know exactly how or who does the deed until the appropriate time! I like that he has a relationship with Reid, and hope that it continues. Unless his old Sgt. Comes back alone from Boston?!?
What a great book! I love this series and this book is another well written addition to it, the characters are believable and the story is twisty and complex. If you love your crime books, I'd recommend starting with the the first in this series, you won't regret it.
C.S Wilson gets on top of his investigations now he is back to his old job,a new bunch of higher police people, after the shake up in the previous book.Another good mix of action and investigations of a number of criminals from previous and on going storylines.Well worth the five 🌟a good series.😎😎
I've read the previous five Wilson books and enjoyed every one of them. The characters are well written and believable. The plot was extremely interesting and complex. I look forward to the next installment.
This book goes at a good speed, well written and full of interesting tangents. I've read all Derek's books and they are all worth taking the time out to enjoy
I have read the six books in this series and I have enjoyed each and every one. Ian Wilson is a well fleshed out character. He is a man on a mission to rid Belfast of its murderous gangs left over from the troubles. His romantic life is interesting too.
Another excellent story in the Detective Wilson Belfast Murders series. Lots of the usual strong characters and a good story line. Well crafted and a really good read.Looking forward to reading more in the series.
I have read and enjoyed Derek Fee's series The Galway Murders and have recently begun reading The Belfast series. I'm totally hooked. They are much darker in tone and the setting in Belfast in the years after the 'troubles' gives the books a very authentic and hard edge. Derek Fee perfectly captures the underlying and ever present tensions between the different comunities. Ian Wilson is a terrifi character with a gritty determination to get to the truth despite efforts being made by those in power to prevent him doing so. Read these books in order to see how events unfold. Brilliant stuff.
There are many open issues at the end of this book, which is great. It means another book is on the way. I am no expert on Northern Ireland nor police procedure, but this book just feels real. The resolution to many of the issues doesn't come in a flurry of gunfire and hyper-activity, and is still very satisfying. The only unreal thing might be what a good guy Wilson is, and that's ok. The supporting characters are good and mostly fully fleshed, and there are many strands of the story yet to weave. A great read!
If you enjoy reading British detectives / police procedurals, you must read Derek Fee's Wilson series! It's one of the genre's absolute best series. It's hard to describe how fulfilling and enjoyable it is to read these books. They are unputdownable. His characters possess such depth and unique dimensions that each one comes to life within the complex plots of policing North Ireland post-"Troubles". Thank you, thank you, Mr. Fee.
Unputdownable. Pacy, succinct, geographically correct and always fast paced. I hope Wilson's career continues as the series is superb. Recommened to anyone who likes their crime fiction.
Derek Fee is a gifted author who can spin a terrific tale. Ian Wilson is a complex character who is a pleasure to follow through his day. Thanks to Mr.Fee for another installment of the murder squad and all the faces they deal with. Can't wait for the next book. Keep up the great work!!!!!!!
