The Fallen Vampire

Rate this book
A freak accident at Chloe’s seventeenth birthday party reveals her psychic abilities, and the community responds by condemning her as a witch who must be burned alive. As she attempts to escape across the dystopian, war-ravaged territory of her homeland, she yearns for a chance to find refuge and acceptance.

On the run and haunted by ghosts from her past, Chloe finds herself at the center of a conflict between the warring factions of Cloud Lords, shape-shifters from another dimension, alternately revered as angels and reviled as demons by the subjugated human populace below.

A dispute between her people’s rulers, the virile Drakonin dragon shifters, and their sworn enemies, the night flying Vampirii, radically alters Chloe’s destiny when she brazenly intervenes in their struggle by sheltering a fallen warrior.

Chloe comes face-to-face with Aethan, a prince among the Vampirii, the most fearsome of the Cloud Lords, known for craving human blood. She will share a forbidden connection with Aethan that could ultimately lead to a place where her nascent power might bloom, provided she can survive the perilous events that will test the bounds of her resolve and love.

THE FALLEN VAMPIRE is the first volume in the FLUX & FIRMAMENT romance series for young adults. This epic adventure takes place in an entirely new universe—The Realm of the Cloud Lords, created by a catastrophic experiment at the Large Hadron Collidor, which has led to a fusion between our world and another dimension.

After spending the past few years filling Moleskins full of world building and character notes for my YA dystopian romance series, Flux & Firmament: The Cloud Lords, I have finally taken the plunge and published. The world in which these adventures will take place is epic in scope. Although I have this series plotted out, every time I sit down to write, I discover new things about the characters as they come to life and fulfill their own destinies.

Thank you for joining me on this journey that will have many surprises along the way. I promise you, it will be a wild ride!

Also, I have a confession... I'm a unicorn masquerading as a human.

Don’t hesitate to follow me on Amazon, Bookbub, Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest. I love hearing from readers. :)

At about a hundred pages, this start of the PNR/Dystopian series was quite engrossing. A tear or rift has occurred in the fabric between world dimensions and, through war and rebellions, Earth is now controlled by warring supernaturals. I really like the premise and can see the story's potential. I hope the author has mapped out the tale, similar to the way Rowling did with Potter because the planning of multiple books can be unwieldy, and a central story can start to unravel quickly.

A disastrous experiment has done the unthinkable. It has opened a dimensional tear and creatures of vast power have taken over the skies and all of humanity. They have become the gods human must worship and obey. Beata Blitz’s THE FALLEN VAMPIRE combines the best of genres, written for young adults, filled with dragons, vampires, witches and a society that has gone backward in their beliefs, superstitions and fears.

Her powers were unveiled during a simple game of spin the bottle at a forbidden teen party, but in the dystopian world she lives, this will mean her death. Only with the help of her best friend, the boy she secretly cares for does she escape her fate in a desperate run for her life. What Chloe hadn’t planned on when she slipped away from Wayne, was running right into the middle of a war in the skies between two powerful ruling factions. Chloe’s rulers, the fierce Drakonin dragon shifters are at war with the powerful Vampirii. When she goes to the aid of a fallen warrior, she finds herself in the company of Aethan, Vampirii prince and deadly Cloud Warrior.

This meeting will be the beginning of a life she could never have imagined, a life where her powers will not be her doom, but possibly her salvation. Does she have what it takes to survive the tests of the prince and his warriors?

You will love Chloe! On one hand she is a typical seventeen-year-old, on the other she has had to struggle with hiding the powers she possesses and if you had three hands you would see a teen with heart, compassion and the same yearnings of any teen. Several characters gave the feeling of being back in high school, while others made the atmosphere turn back time to the likes of the Salem Witch Hunts. Fill the skies with winged warriors form another dimension and can you say, bring me more, Beata Blitz! Bring me more! A great foundation to what appears to be a rapid-paced YA read with tons of imagination!
Clear you calendar for this one!

I would like to thank the author for a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.
"The Fallen Vampire" is prequel to the "FLUX & FIRMAMENT" series, so it is just a beginning of the story. I think that is why the book is so short. And that is the biggest disadvantage of the book. I liked characters and plot (about which I don't want to write much more than in description. I just don't want to spoil.). I really liked the way fantastic creatures were described. I would love to learn something more about the world created by the author. This book made me want to know what will happen next and that is what are prequels written for, aren't they?

I was approached by the author and given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I would definitely like to point out that this book is essentially set up to give you as much information about the world the series revolves around. I can appreciate a book that gives me a certain insight into the world I am about to discover. The information, I'm sure will come in handy as the series progresses.

I have to admit I am not the biggest fan of sacrifices where unrequited love is concerned. But I can push past that because I am curious about other specifics of this series. I want to know more about the Night Flyers, Cloud Lords, and about "the program."

Can't wait to see what else this author has to provide and I look forward to the next one.

Disclaimer - I was given a copy of this novella in exchange for an honest review.

During the process of reading this short book, I kept waffling between whether I would give it three or four stars, so I guess the truth is that it is a solid 3-1/2 stars. I upgraded the half star because of the author's enthusiasm and for sneaking in a Monty Python gag toward the end (not sure if it was intentional, but I got a chuckle).

First the good - I found the story to be intriguing, a dystopian world a bit different from the ones I've read lately. There is a ton of potential here and moments of very crisp writing. The protagonist is well-developed and not as annoying as I thought she would be as I started reading.

I did, however, feel like the story was rushed. Not knowing the direction the author has in mind, I felt like the story could have unraveled at a slower pace, possibly allowing this to be a novel instead of a novella. The first couple of chapters dumped a lot of information and backstory quickly. Also, some of the dialogue felt a little forced and, again, an avenue for info dumping.

There is enough of a good story, and good writing, here that a little more character development and editing would result in something even stronger. As it is, it caught my interest enough to want to read more in the series, something that I cannot say for a couple of recently popular series I slogged through.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Thanks, Beata!

so let's get the negatives out of the way. The cover art, I am not a huge fan of it. It's a disservice to the uniqueness of this story. However, I am one of those people who judge a book by it's cover. I am very glad I didn't in this case! Second, I wish it was more descriptive in regards to this new dystopian world. I was confused in certain sections about what this world looked like and there were certain areas that didn't need extra info.

Now for the great parts, this is a very unique story and I really appreciate the narrative and the sequence of events. Everything is told in perfect time with the introduction of characters and world. Chloe is a very interesting character and very well developed. I am a very hard reader in that I am very hard to please and I don't usually read books when asked. I'm very picky and my attention span is that of a toddler. So it speaks volumes that I read this book all the way to the end without putting it down. I had a good feeling about Beata and I am glad I was right. If you pick up this book you will not be sorry you read it.

NOTE: I received a copy of this book in exchange of an honest review.

Let's start with the cons of these story; first few chapters were too long and dragging and very detailed. I even zoned out because of dumping too much information; it spoon-fed us every thing-backstory and events-in one paragraph. There was no time to mull over. Excitement? Vanished.
thanks

There were also some dubious events, like I'm not really sure which direction this story will be headed or what the author would like to explicate.

But I am quite sure though that the world built by the author in this story was a dystopian era AND it was really depressing.

"...adults were forbidden from recounting such information by strict ‘nostalgia laws’"

description

Oh this was the worst;
"There were even some townsfolk who argued that any demonstration of public pleasure such as smiling should be forbidden."

description

I'd be more than willing to donate more than a dozen of Coke to this girl.
"Michael said as he held up an old Coca-Cola bottle.
Although Chloe had never tasted the drink, these bottles were relics that could occasionally be found in abandoned houses. She had always been fascinated by their undulated glass form."

description

"...and if you two are paired up by the council, then I won’t lose my friend at the next ritual offering.” That was something that Sandra didn’t have to worry about since her beau had already proposed, and they’d been given consent to marry."

description

"Several of the musicians were part of the town band and were quite talented."

description

There were still a lot of things that I liked about this book. It's an honest book; no isolated events and no runabout phenomenon. Every thing was given. Like this one;

“I could’ve saved you from almost anything,” he said shaking his head with sadness. “Anything, except this. Why did you do it?”
“Love,” Chloe answered.

description

Given that this book was just a prequel of the main series, I understood that it was just a quick preview of what will happen. So I'd got no problems with that. However, it really could had been a lot better if the story was unraveled at a slower yet exciting pace. I believe some chapter could be trimmed with depth and it could have more decent world building and character development.

Overall, this series has a lot of potentials. So YES. I'm going to read the next one once it's out and about!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book so please do not let my below review discourage you from reading it. The story is a prequel and begins with mostly background information to prep you for the up coming books to help you better understand whats going on. Towards the end is when I felt the story was at its best and I can't wait to read the next one to see how the story un folds.
Mostly the review lost 2 stars due to the actual writing itself not the story.

1) A lot of sentences start with AND or BUT

2) There are way too many things going on - The Republic, The New Religion, The Dark Lords, Public Corrections, The Commission, Dragons Faith, Cloud Lords, Pacific Govern ship, Rift War etc.

3) There are use of big vocabulary words like Compunction, Blasphemy, Supplicating, Beatific... These just do not go with the writing of the book. It almost feels forced or almost as if the original word was typed into Thesaurus and changed into something bigger. The writing in this book is very casual so there is no need for this type of vocabulary and not to mention some of them are a bit misplaced.

4) There were a few things misspelled throughout the book.

Is the next one ready????????

I want the next book, like yesterday!!!! This was one heck of a book and perfect way to start the series. I found this book enticing, I just want more and more, I can get enough. I loved how the story came alive, was excellently paced. I found the characters relatable, real and interesting. I felt like I was experiencing the story first hand, like I was right there. This book compleptely and totally kept my attention, I can't wait to read the next books, see how the rest of the series unfolds. I'm VERY excited for the rest of the series. I hope it comes out soon. I highly recommend this book, it does end on a cliffhanger but if the rest of the series is as good as it seems it will be...who cares? Not I.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair review!

Chloe has a secret and when her jealousy rises up she shows her ability at a forbidden birthday party. Chloe is in love with her best friend and when the are playing the quaint game of spin the bottle and it lands on another girl, she uses her powers to make the bottle move towards her. As people begin to call her a witch the party is busted up. When her love tries to help her escape she ends up separated from him and is caught by the sheriff.

She awakes mostly naked in a room by herself. But soon her visited not only by her rival but her love and he helps her escape again. While trying to get away the end up in the middle of a battle between a Vampirii prince and a Drakonins. She someone knows that she must lie to them and hide the wounded prince away.

Will she be able to save her love, can she explain her connection to the Vampirii prince? Heck will she be able to survive all those that want her burned or a slave?

I found this world to be very interesting. Vampires, Dragons, and I am pretty sure some heavy influences by Aztec culture.. And it's in a dystopian world as well. I know right seems like a lot, but it really fit together well. I was a little worried when I first agreed to review this because Vampires are just not my thing anymore. I used to love them and as a result have read a lot of series involving Vampires and after awhile I just quit because they weren't appealing to me. However, I was just sucked into this book from the moment I started reading. I couldn't stop and when it ended... I was like I need the next book now... of course it isn't out yet. So now I must wait and I really don't want to!

I agreed to review this book in exchange for a copy of this book. My first thought as I started reading was that there was no way I was going to like it. Man was I wrong, I cannot wait to read the rest of the series! The story is set in a post apocalyptic society where the Cloud Lords aka dragon people have wiped out most humans in their war with Night Flyers aka vampires. Those lucky enough to survive the war have a new religion and a ton of new rules like no art or birthdays and even limiting use of technology like cars and lights. Chloe has powers and she accidentally uses them at a hidden birthday party and what is done to witches in ignorant societies, yep she's going to be burnt at the stake. I admit the story sounds cheesy, but the imagery in the book is so well done I love the descriptions of the landscape. It really puts you there in a war torn society. The characters are interesting and make normal teenage mistakes like stop a spinning bottle from landing on someone else so you can kiss your crush. I think this book will be a huge hit with teens, I can't wait to read the rest.

Wow not my normal type of read but it has a lot of potential.

Chloe has a secret and by fluke accident it becomes exposed at a party. Well to some you might think that's not bad but in the world that Chloe is in it is. Living in a society that bands happyness after the civil war and under rule of the cloud lords

Her best friend try's to save her but she gets caught..... well from there you think it's done but it's not!

Now she manages to get away only to witness the fight between the cloud lords and the night flyers. Seeing the night flyer fall to earth she goes to his rescue only to be frightened and runs away to be confronted by 2 of the cloud lords. Not knowing why but she feels loyal to the night flyer that feel she lies to save him.

Well I'm not going to give it all away but your going to need to read this yourself I know my curiosity has been peeked and can't wait to see what happens next in this series

I really enjoyed this book written by Beata Blitz. The plot is unique and different, which is always a huge plus with any book I read. The pace of it was spot on, guiding you through the story beautifully. I never felt like a scene was dragging on nor too rushed. In this book I see the glimpse of what is to come, and I look forward to read what lies ahead.

Chloe is an adorable character, torn between what she has to do and what she wants to do. She is confused on what is happening to her but she stays strong through it all. Wayne is also very adorable, and the kind of friend we all wish we had. He is also torn between what is right and what is asked of him.

This was a fun book I was barely able to put down. I am definitely going to read the next one in this series.

I have received this book from the author for an honest review. (LoP, Lovers of Paranormal)

This book is gripping and filled with action and adventure. It is set in a dystopian world where a rift in the sky has let dragons or 'Cloud Lords' into our world. Following a war the humans agreed to be subservient and every month offer up food and slaves for the dragons. Chloe is a 17 year old who is discovered possessing magical powers which are forbidden and punishable by death. She is captured and then goes on the run with her unrequited love Wayne. Caught beneath a battle between two rival sides of Cloud Lords her world takes an unexpected turn.

This book is a new, original story that will have you hooked, and like me eagerly awaiting the next instalment!

Thanks to Netgalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-Op for giving me this book to review.

The Fallen Vampire is a fun dystopian paranormal novella, which has a very interesting premise. However, I would have liked more world building as the setting seems so fascinating. Chloe is a good character but seems like a typical teenager whose life revolves around a boy she fancies rather than keeping herself safe. I would recommend The Fallen Vampire to fans of Angelfall by Susan Ee and Kingdom of Ashes by Elena May.

Approached by the author with an offer to read this prequel for free in exchange for an honest review, I agreed because I was intrigued by the summary and cover art, and why not? The summary is well written, draws the potential reader in with the promise of an alluring story about a girl harrowed for her paranormal abilities, chased out of town and bore witness to a sky-bound battle between mysterious, inhuman creatures. Additionally, it’s apparent the author spent a decent sum to procure quality cover art.
Unfortunately, these two positive points were the only positives at all. I genuinely wanted this prequel to be a story of as much substance as the summary promised. Instead, what I discovered was an author who has a story in mind, but is weak in the practice of her craft. A short read, The Fallen Vampire opened and unfolded with an inordinate amount of exposition – so much so that perhaps three-quarters of the book is narrative explanation instead of painting a vivid picture through the eyes of the main character, Chloe. Blitz delivers passages like “Although birthday celebrations had been outlawed, the Commission considered them a minor transgression, so participants were generally spared the harsher punishments such as permanent mutilation. All the same, a caning was nothing to scoff at since the Office of Public Corrections tended to dispense justice with such a firm hand that offenders weren’t able to sit on their backsides for weeks,” in between sparse dialog and character interaction. There is never any clarification of people are not allowed to celebrate their birthdays, or why caning is a punishment for doing so.
Blitz does attempt a romantic motivation for Chloe’s fall from grace, but as with the rest of Chloe’s observable relationships, it’s shallow and underdeveloped at best, dragging on repetitively as the cliched impetus for Chloe’s increasing questionable choices. Nor does she bother to explain why Chloe’s use of her paranormal abilities merits such primitive superstitious, lethal consequences except to, again, have the narrator step in to give knowledge dumps about a New Faith brought about by the arrival of these mysterious Cloud Lords.
There does come the point in the text where Blitz finally allows the characters to carry out the plot, the narrative info dumps coming in shorter and shorter intervals. However, this leads to a plethora of ill-executed plot points that make little to no sense. When Chloe escapes and witnesses a battle between the mysterious Cloud Lords and an equally mysterious group called the Night Flyers, she somehow understands battle tactics and surmises the outcome without ever having studied such things (or, at least, Blitz never makes any mention of such studies in any of the numerous info dumps). When one of the Night Flyers falls out of the sky (presumably the eponymous Fallen Vampire), she inexplicably decides she’s going to run to where she saw him fall. I simply could not fathom why, if these people have so oppressed her mortal folks as to reduce them to near-primitive beliefs and subsistence, she gave a damn about the fate of one fallen warrior.
Once she finds him apparently dead, a duo of shapeshifting Cloud Lords discovers her in the forest. They question her to see if she knows anything, and all she can think about is how hunky and gorgeous they are. No fear, no malice, no awe – just poorly written teenage hormonal reaction. This reaction just doesn’t seem to be a very believable for someone in the presence of otherworldly beings who otherwise have no interaction with humans except for some dreaded yearly ritual known as Ascension where the humans become slaves to the Cloud Lords. These Cloud Lords also somehow manage to believe the weak lies she offers and take off into the night sky in search of their fallen foe. Once they’ve gone, Chloe leads Wayne back to the fallen Night Flyer and convinces him they need to drag this dead body to the nearby farmhouse where they’re taking refuge.
Later, during a shoot-out between Chloe, Wayne, and the sheriff’s men, Blitz indicates that Wayne has nailed all of the windows of the farmhouse shut with horseshoe nails, yet somehow Chloe shoots at the sheriff’s men through an open window. The gun fight is then interrupted by the mysterious and all too convenient appearance of the Governor’s troops who have superiority over the sheriff’s men. Strangely, these men agree to rescue Chloe and Wayne and take the fallen Night Flyer into their custody. The Captain of this troop is all too amiable up-front, telling Chloe to call him by his first name when they aren’t around the others although this is the first time they’ve met, and there’s no reason whatsoever to explain why this stranger should be so informal with her so soon. He then escorts her and Wayne to the General’s Jeep in which he’s taking them to the general. Once they start driving, the general mysteriously appears in the Jeep without any official introduction or even mention of his existence in the scene and makes a deal with her that is, like the interaction with the Captain, entirely too familiar and informal to be believable.
They eventually arrive, stopping for what Blitz notes as possibly the third time, explaining that they’ve had to stop at least twice before to remove obstacles from the road. What I couldn’t understand was why, if they had driven to the farmhouse on this road, why on the return they would still need to clear debris. During the drive, Chloe ruminates (something she frequently does as a way for Blitz to info dump) on her strange connection to the fallen Night Flyer. She suspects he is alive without any real proof to show for it. Blitz instead writes: “His stare had created a connection that made her feel like his life was in her hands,” yet nowhere in the earlier passage when Chloe originally finds this downed warrior does it say that the two locked eyes before his purported death.
I was also confused on why Blitz released this as a prequel before a later work that would establish these characters as someone whose earlier story needed to telling. I can only guess it was to deliver an unnecessarily over-generous knowledge dump that would entice people to buy the next book hoping it might be better with all that background “junk” out of the way.
Despite having said all this, I reiterate an earlier comment: there is a story here, it’s just lost under a mountain of weak writing. As a recommendation from one author to another, Blitz would do well to purchase a copy of Joyce Hardy's Understanding Show, Don't Tell: (And Really Getting It). In just the first few chapters of this handy resource, Blitz will hopefully understand where her writing is lacking and gain some knowledge on how to better hone her writing. As it is, readers wanting a story as well-written and engaging as her summary will not get what they expect. Too much tell, not enough show, unfortunately. Until Blitz can work all of those knowledge dumps into actionable sequences that consistently keep the reader fully engaged not with the history of why the main character is suffering travails, but with the character experiencing and overcoming the travails as they happen, I’m afraid discerning readers will take a pass on future endeavors.

I was given the arc copy of this fantastic book and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.
This is my honest review of the book and I'm genuinely excited about the next installment.
The concept was thrilling and unique. It seemed to fuse two of my favorite YA genres, Dystopian and Fantasy. The world Beata created was so intriguing and exciting and I honestly found myself emersed in the book. I read the whole book in one sitting. It's currently four thirty in the morning and I just finished it. I cannot wait to see what the first book is like. This was just the prequel and it was amazing and my expectations for book 1 is quite high. I want to learn more about this world and understand the control the Cloud Lords have on humans, I want to understand these creatures and their working. I plan on writing a spoiler filled review on my blog for all those who are interested so check out ashgbooks.blogspot.com and more importantly, don't forget to pick up a copy of this book!

What a great intro to this series!

At first, I found the story a little slow and confusing. There was a lot of information to take in for such a quick read but once I got about half way through.....hooked!! I think Chloe really shows her young age but I have a feeling about her....

Can not wait to read the next installment! I have a feeling this series will be a must-read for me.

Weird dystopian fiction in which the world has been overrun by two powerful civilizations that come from the sky - perhaps another quantum reality? Dragon shapeshifters who rule with an iron fist, and their nemesis - vampires who can shapeshift into giant bats.

But we see all of this from the viewpoint of a girl running for her life when her psychic abilities were revealed. Her fellow humans don't appreciate 'witches.' Or much of anything else in their rigorously totalitarian society. When she finds a wounded fallen vampire, things get even more interesting... but there, the story ends, only a teaser for a proper novel to come (perhaps?)

I received a free copy for my honest review.
I think the reviewer really impacts the review so I will share that I am a middle aged mom to a blended family of 10 kids his, hers, ours, and theirs, ages 32-2. I am a high school teacher who teaches 9-12 grade students who struggle with trauma and social structure and need support as they integrate into high school. I read fantasy, science fiction, paranormal romance, and fiction to maintain my sanity and often read 2-3 books a week outside of my school texts for students (I allow my students to chose their favorite books to read for English classes and read with them). I have fairly high standards for my escapes!

So, I really disliked the cover, I know that is not most important part of any book but in all honesty if I had seen the cover in a book store I would have passed it by as to chaotic and juvenile and I really hope I am alone or that it releases with a different one. I only mention it here because you should start at the beginning!

Now I really loved the different aspects presented in this world. I like the bit about the world having been changed from outside forces and that they are still somewhat mysterious. I like that the characters that are older retain some of our current idioms as it makes a comfort in a new world order that my mind is working to accept. I am looking forward to more fleshing out of the world and the details of the current history. If this had been a full story I would have given it 3 stars but as a teaser it was well developed so 4.
I like that the main character knows that she desires knowledge. I like that she has a curious mind. I like that she begins to observe things and make judgments based on trusting herself, and that she doesn't get "stuck" on her preconceived notions of others but adapts as they act towards her. I wish we had a little more of the description of how she grew into this trust of herself but realize this was a short introduction and hope for more again could have been 3 stars but I am intrigued enough that I know I will read the final product so 4.
I see so many different places this book can go and I really look forward to seeing all the development in the several characters and the different environments skimmed across.
I can honestly say that I see the potential for the series to rival ones like Divergent and the Hunger Games for a strong female lead. I also see the potential for a world to rival the Mortal Instruments series. I see immense potential and look forward to seeing where it leads.

Book for Honest Review!

In all honesty I wasn't sure if I would enjoy this novel. The cover was unappealing to me and the blurb seemed a bit different to what I'd usually read, but I must admit... it wasn't bad at all. I enjoyed the the back story of the world Chloe lives in. And I enjoy the side effects of Chloe's powers, they make her more human.
There is one thing that annoyed me about Chloe as a character and that is how smitten she was for Wayne. Not just in love, head over heels smitten for him that caused her to make very stupid mistakes. I would definitely have liked to read about Chloe doing slightly more magic but the story line kept me engaged. I was particularly fascinated by the Cloud Lords. I am very much looking forward to reading the next one!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

This story has got it all: dragons, vampires, unrequited love, battles and adventure, stubborn heroines who will positively stand strong and be a hope for a better future..
and the good thing is, it’s just the prequel.

My only issue with this book is that when I first started reading the book I was a bit irritated over Chloe’s lack of perspective when it comes to her feelings for her friend Wayne. Her pining for him to love her back romantically is cloying. Chloe acts like it’s the only thing that matters to her - more so than her own life.
Chloe does however grow throughout her escape in the wasteland which leaves me with a feeling that she will slowly learn to loosen her grip on what isn’t, and focus on what is right in front of her. She’s on the right path for self-development and I’d love to see how the events in the next books shape her.

When that is said, I think this book is great. At no point whatsoever did I think that a scene was being dragged out or were too fast-paced. A lot happens in this story, and the pace is relatively fast, but it sucks you in and keeps your attention, right till the end.
This is a great introduction to the world in which the series take place.

Count me in for more.

Many thanks to Beata Blitz and the Goodreads Group YA Reads for Teachers for the ARC, The Fallen Vampire. Chloe is a normal teen whose life changes abruptly at a party when she uses witchcraft. She is imprisoned awaiting a trial when her best friend and love interest helps her escape from jail. As they flee, Chloe wishes desperately that Wayne would return her feelings. As a witch Chloe will not have the life she wants so she slips away from Wayne and runs headlong into a conflict between Vampires (known as Night Flyers) and Dragons and Bats considered gods and also could change into human form. As something falls from the sky, Chloe follows and finds what seems to be a dead man. What will happen to Chloe now that she is hunted as a witch, meets Cloud Lords, and tries to save whoever fell during the battle? Beata Blitz has crafted an dystopian world where California is now Dragon's Faith with feral dogs, bombed out buildings, and a new world that is patrolled by sheriffs with Regulators, rules, no technology and no information from the past. I can't wait to learn more about Chloe, her fate, and that of the fallen man in the 2nd book in this epic series with magic, mystery, gods and vampires!

In The Fallen Vampire we meet Chloe, who lives in a world that is ruined because of the wars between the higher powers. Beata Blitz describes the world in detail, something you have to get used to in the beginning of the book.
When Chloe goes to a birthday party, even though she isn’t allowed to go out, Chloe shows her powers by accident. The people around her are shocked, even though this is a bit of a understatement. They call her a witch and want to burn her alive. So much for an accident…
And after that moment her life changed forever. People whom she was once close, loathe her now. Even though the only thing that happened, is that they now know what Chloe is capable off.
From that moment Chloe flees, her story begins. Unexpected things are happening and they’re wel written. Only at the end of the book the story starts to make sense. And when you hit that mark in the book, you want more. After you’ve finished the book, you know one thing for sure: that you cannot wait for the release of the sequel!

I really enjoyed this prequel of the series and cannot wait for the next book to show up. I gave the book 4.5/5 stars!

I voluntarily reviewed a review copy of this book.

An accident at a birthday party reveals Chloe's psychic abilities and she is condemned to burn to death as a witch. Following the rift and arrival of Supernaturals to rule the Earth she attempts to flee across the war torn area around her homeland, but could now end up dragged into the conflict between the Drakonin dragon shifters, the night flying Vampirii Cloud Lords and the subjugated human population. In that escape she comes across the wounded Vampirii prince Aethan - can she save both herself and him?

This was a great start to a new series. The descriptions of the world and what happened was good and it was crafted in such a way that you were told enough detail while having enough gaps that they can be filled in during subsequent books. The emotions and feelings were well described and I could definitely start to feel annoyed with Chloe and her dogged love for her best friend. I can't wait to read the next instalment now.

This book was pretty cool. I just couldn't stop reading it. It has a fast path leading to a lot happening despite being so short.
The world is build as a dystopian fantasy where the main character is from the first generation that doesn't know much about the "old world". There are a lot of new ideas and rules to be taken into account as well as different sort of creatures. The entire setting is well crafted and believable even though some part of the description might not fall into what Chloe would know.
I would also have liked to have a better view of Chloe's family relationship but seeing the turns of event I totally understand why that was impossible and probably irrelevant.
Chloe seems to be the only trustworthy character. All the way I was wondering if she was sure about her love interest as he seemed like a very poor choice despite some commendable actions.

I can't wait for the next instalment in this series to come out, it's really a very good read.

From the minute I started reading this fantastic tale, I could not put it down. But being a prequel, I know I at least have the pleasure of anticipating more books to come in this compelling series. I could immediately empathize with Chloe, as she is rejected by the man she loves. On the run from everything she knows, she encounters members of the dragon shifters and the vampirii. As a bond is formed between Chloe and Aethan, she moves towards a destiny far from her home and those she loves, one with an unknown and mysterious future. I just cannot wait to read more of this intriguing tale. The author has a compelling way of spinning a yarn that pulls you in and makes you a part of this surreal and mesmerizing world she's created. You'll most definitely want to get in on this first book of what promises to be a great new series.

I was given this book in an exchange for an honest review and I thoroughly enjoyed this! This is one of the dystopian novels that has stuck from the rest for me. The the excerpt from the ember scroll at the beginning is really what set the tone for me. Earth is stuck in the middle of two warring powers. I like story of what life on Earth is like under these conditions. The characters are very interesting, the main character in particular. The more I read, the more questions I had, and I could not put the book down. I can't wait to see where the author goes with this. This has the potential to be a really good series.
